As I used it and wore it down by sharpening it began do read "COOL TO DO DRUGS", then "DO DRUGS", etc... Reminds me of how the 80's wore down and how happy I was to hear Spacemen 3 for the first time.
I am reading it now and I am ether laughing or astonished on each page. Carruthers is an honest and unsentimental chronicler who seamlessly weaves his own inner personal narrative with a detailed account of the cultural atmosphere at the time including the historical, political, philosophical and hypocritical variables that consumed England in the 1980's and continue to now. As a huge Spacemen 3 fan as well as a Spiritualized and Spectrum fan, the observations of Pete and Jason are fascinating but equally as intriguing is the author's description of recording and playing music with a band he admires. The Hell's Angels story was so funny and yet endearing at the same time that I practically pissed me self laughing while crying at the same time. I can't believe Will has thankfully lived to tell the tale. And he does it with remarkable ease. "YOU GOTTA OPEN UP YOUR MIND AND LET EVERYTHING COME THROUGH!"
