I love how he put his famous line, alright, alright, alright; in his speech. It didn't feel like pandering or that he did it just for a clap, it shows humility that not many other actors would show

This has probably been one of the most influential speeches I’ve ever heard. I’ve listened to it dozens of times now. The first time I heard it 10 years ago I thought it was comedy gold. Now I realise how wise his words are.
That HUG with Leo, best thing in Academy History. That Jennifer Lawrence presentation, worst thing in Academy History. Edit: thanks for the likes... Alright.
I do not remember where I read it or heard it but she was saying that to Jared Leto because he was laughing a lot. Anyway she thought she could be funny but it was the opposite
For the meme surely, but I find that the best part is the "anecdote" on his childhood friend asking him who his hero was and him answering "it's me in ten years". Incredibly positive attitude and mentality.
As great as he was in his role back then, Leo was on another level in the Wolf of Wall Street, definitely Leo should have won it that year, that was an all-time great performance
I've really liked him for a long time, I absolutely LOVE him in Gold. He captures the imagination and soul in that film, great guy, whether he uses deodorant or not.
What sets him apart from most others is that he is absolutely genuine. I’ve always appreciated him as an actor, but after listening to his autobiography, you can easily tell he’s a kind soul.
@@andrescastillo6937He has a memoir, it’s called Greenlights, I listened to the audio version, it’s fantastic, once of the best things I’ve read/listened to, I highly recommend
@@notinterestedd Leo has been robbed so many times for his performances at the Oscar’s. His portrayal as Jordan Belfort in WofWS was absolutely stunning. Don’t get me wrong Mathew was phenomenal as well ofc but Leo…just wow.
Thank you. Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you to the Academy for this; all 6,000 members. Thank you to the other nominees, all of these performances were impeccable. In my opinion I didn't see a false note anywhere. I want to thank Jean-Marc Vallee our director. I want to thank Jared Leto and Jennifer Garner who I worked with daily. There are three things that I need each day. One, I need something to look up to, another to look forward to, and another is someone to chase. First off, I want to thank God because that's who I look up. He's graced my life with opportunities that I know are not of my hand or of any other hand. He's shown me that it's a scientific fact that gratitude reciprocates. To my family is to what I look forward to. To my father who I know is up there right now with a big pot of gumbo, he has a big lemon meringue pie over there. He's probably in his underwear and has a big can of Miller Lite and he's dancing right now. To you dad, you taught me how to be a man. To my mother who's here tonight, who taught me and my two older brothers -- demanded -- that we respect ourselves. And in turn we learned we were better able to learn how to respect others. Thank you for that mama. To my wife, Camilla, and my kids Levi, Vida and Mr Stone (Livingstone), the courage you give me every time I walk through the door is unparalleled. You are the four people in my life that I want to make the most proud of me. Thank you. And to my hero. That's who I chase. When I was 15 years old I had a very important person in my life come and ask me 'Who's your hero?' I said, 'I thought about it and it's me in ten years. So I turned 25 ten years later and that same person comes to me and goes, 'Are you a hero?' I said, 'Not even close!' She said why and I said, 'My hero is me at 35.' You see, every day, and every week, and every month, and every year of my life, my hero is always ten years away. I'm never going to be my hero. I'm not going to obtain that and that's fine with me because it keeps me with somebody to keep on chasing. So to any of us, whatever those things are and whatever it is we look up to, whatever it is we look forward to and whoever it is we're chasing, to that I say Amen. To that I say alright, alright, alright. And just keep living, huh? Thank you.
This is one of the most well-deserved Oscar wins in the history of the academy. Look at the audience and their reaction - pure joy and delight. There is no single person in the crowd who seems vexed or annoyed. Everyone, from fellow nominees to A-listers, to random guests is genuinely happy for McConaughey's win.
it was a running joke for years that Leo never won an oscar, like the academy said “lets keep it going”. There are a few hard years to win and this was just one of them. The others i think of were the Goodfellas or Pulpfiction years where you are up against it for whatever reward. This was year that so many good films came out, best picture, best actor, was like aaaaaw shit how do we decide. And Leo was younger, had to give it to Matthew as he turned a corner in acting. Like keep the Leo joke running, his time will come. And it did
Leland Walker Sadly one of the most hated for him thanking God. He never said "IF you don't believe in God, you're going to hell Atheists!" He just thanked him. I can't believe all the hate..
You know what I loved about this, is how he immediately reached out and acknowledged loved and dignified ones around him. This is spiritual, emotional, social intelligence being played out. Unscripted, unplanned, unforseen. There are souls who can do incredible performances when they know there is going to be an audience watching. For example, circus performers. Others who might be "scripted" this could be special moment with lots of cameras watching so make sure your game is on and you play the best way possible, no matter who wins (you or another). There is another level again. When a superlative script, metaphysical forces, observers and players are watching. Not declared. Not playing. Not making waves. Just there, watching the show go down. McConaughy has our affection because of how he stepped up and handled Uvalde. As does Beto O'Rourke. Both these souls will go on to do transformative work and end their days at peace knowing they "made a difference". Other souls who dipped out because "the authorities" would not like it, they could not see how it could be done, their gravy trains might dry up have our contempt and mockery. The non-existent feminine of Creation loves this phrase from Isaiah 37:22 "Zion despises and mocks you. Jerusalem tosses her head as you flee." Souls such as McConaughy, O'Rourke, indigenous peoples who nurture the land and the biosphere do not have to fear this phrase. Malachi 2:9 “So I have caused you to be despised and humiliated before all the people, because you have not followed my ways but have shown partiality in matters of the law.” McConaughy has been in our radar for a long time. O'Rourke and Liz Cheney are in our radar for similar reasons.
Holy shit. Ive never seen such verbose goyslop say absolutely nothing. Beto is a shithead, Liz Cheney got BTFO'D and you taking scripture out of context does nothing to benefit you.
Truly. As a kid I loved him as Vilmer, and Wooderson especially, and Amistad and A Time To Kill were both very good, but the Mud, Dallas Buyer's Club, and True Detective trifecta showed the world this man is a legendary actor.
This man thanks GOD, Parents, Family and His Collagues and mentions all his competing actors deserves this too. This is sign of a great humble man. Jesus Bless him.
"Without God we wouldn't be nothing" I agree with that double negative. If it wasn't for the disgusting toxicity of religion, we would be far from nothing. Our planet and everything on it would be in an immeasurably better place.

+digoto1 I guess people are just hoping for Leo to win because he has done so many Oscar worthy performances and never gotten one. I saw both the wolf and dallas buyers club and had a hard time deciding who I thought should have won.
He is not thanking God for the Oscar. He is thanking God for giving him the strength inside that's required to work hard and ruthlessly in order to achieve your dreams. I know it's easy to hate on a guy who gives in the impression he's in love with the sound of his own voice... And hey, maybe that's true, Mr McConaughey loves himself. But he also has a greater love for the world around him. He feels blessed. I feel blessed in my life. Grateful, not arrogant.
Nah, but thanks to God, he was born into the family he's currently part of, into a place and time of opportunity and his faith helped him grow as a man which helped him build his character into the great man he is today. Something I doubt you know anything about because as some grow into great men, others never grow.

So calm and poised and he's not letting his emotions flow and disturb his way of thinking that energy that he is emitting..that is what I want to learn in life..which comes with alot of sacrifices lot of forgiveness..lot of things to lose alot of ager alot of pain alot of chasing things. Hardwork even after life being so harsh on you ..and then comes the this phase where Matthew is ..huge respect..I always come back to this speech..
This is the Oscar that DiCaprio truly deserved more than any other film, his best performance. On the other side I am sooooo happy that Matthew won only for this speech. Man.. that’s the best Oscar speech I’ve ever heard!
....curious thing about its that the first scene of Wall Street wolf is just Matthew with Leo!.....Leo did great in the Revenant and he gets the Oscar wiht honor and in this case Matthew really deserves the Oscar for that amazing role in Dallas Buyers Club!.....
Dude did you even watch Dallas Buyers Club.. he delivered a darn good performance better then leo. (I watched both movies). He lost like 80 pounds weight for this role. I know Leo also delivered a good performance but Matthew's performance is Oscar worthy
I’ve returned to watch Matt’s speech many a time. And for many different reasons. Sometimes to learn how to be confident on stage and still remain authentic. Sometimes to learn how to effortlessly infuse humour into a speech or a chat. But most times just to get inspired by a delightfully down to earth human being who in a world (room) full of actors still remains true to himself. So far the best acceptance speech ever, in my opinion.
Agreed. I get very nervous sometimes even talking to one person. People seem so artificial and phoney so much but this (and his Joe Rogan interview and almost any other interviews) show what a kind soul he is. I think he acts because he has a true passion for it and cares about making films that genuinely inspire people in a positive way (which Mud, DBC, and True Detective absolutely did for me).
This is a memorable speech. I rank it just short of the speech Christoph Waltz gave for his first Oscar, for Inglorius Basterds. That one is pure perfection for me.
Emanuel Ferrando Jesus Christ you're a snoopy. Lead me, guide me Holywood cos I'm an idiot. Try something else in life other then superficial cinema tricks.

True
Exactly
Thank you.
❤

This is one of the most well-deserved Oscar wins in the history of the academy. Look at the audience and their reaction - pure joy and delight. This was year that so many good films came out, best picture, best actor, was like aaaaaw shit how do we decide.

Red Hunteur. That your are stressing and hating on someone who thanks God for helping him get where he is.

And the Oscar for best Oscar speech goes to…….this man! Humble, kind, loving ❤
Very nicely said.
He, his family, his friends and colleagues are the ones who helped give him the strength required for hard work not "God"
God gave him what? i bet god didnt pay the acting classes when he was a child
Nah, but thanks to God, he was born into the family he's currently part of, into a place and time of opportunity and his faith helped him grow as a man which helped him build his character into the great man he is today. Something I doubt you know anything about because as some grow into great men, others never grow.
So if i dont believe in god , im not a good man? woah thats not ignorant at all ,typical religious shit, no offense.
