Ben and jerry's is a good example of an LGBT+ friendly corporation. They do more than just say, "yeah, gay rights," They're actively spending time and money on helping LGBT+ causes, and have signs and things in their shops year-round, not just June.

In my opinion, no huge corporation can ever be "truly" LGBTQ-friendly. Obviously, some companies are way worse than others, but in the end the most important thing for them is making money. I think the best way to go is to buy from small local LGBTQ businesses if you want pride merch, but if that isn't an option, then this test comes in handy.
However, many of these corporations, even the ones who sponsored the equality act, do other horrible things like finding the country with the lowest minimum wage and working conditions so that they can pay workers the least amount of money possible or engaging in harmful environmental practices to get their materials.

What country are you from? Where I'm from, when a company is openly LGBT friendly, they 100% are met with boycotts and LOSING money, and usually do this to show that they are some of the few companies that will hire openly LGBT people and to protest our draconic anti-LGBT laws. I know rainbow capitalism is bad, but sometimes you need perspective. If you're from the US or select western or northern European countries, you have it good. Eastern European here. My entire country is less tolerant than any town in US bible belt.
In my country, 90% companies are the equivalent of chick fil-a. Capitalism is bad, companies aren't people, etc, etc, but that 10% is still a start. Our government doesn't care about people. Companies are the closest we have to seeing ourselves accepted sometimes, and they do pay the price for it.

My country is so homophobic, transphobic etc it's very scary. Anything rainbow related in my country is a small treasure because even if the company isn't perfect the knowledge of us existing is spreading. I'm demi and for the longest time people thought I was closeted lesbian (because I never could truly tell who I find attractive). I'm happy I know who I am now! I don't face as much discrimination as gays or trans people but before I had a boyfriend I had got all kinds of passive aggresive remarks even when I didn't know who I am. Till this day people around me think I "act saint" or "pretend" to be "unique" or "higher" than others. But it doesn't matter to me anymore because I'm happy with who I am. Happy Pride! 💕

Disney is definitely pandering. When making The Rise of Skywalker, they had the lesbian kiss. The lesbian kiss was actually cut out for places like China, Russia, and of course Singapore. Because, in Singapore if you feature homosexual content as a subplot, the only people who'd be able to watch it are people over the age of 18. I mean it's ridiculous a film about space battles and Jedi and Sith is considered 18 plus simply because two girls kissed so they edited it out for that. Also, the managers had to delete their work group chat because they were using homophobic language in the chat. Basically, those two managers deserve to lose their jobs.

One time my dad and i outsmarted hobby lobby. There was a sign that said that there was a discount for some stuff and there was a painting of a raccoon next to it along with a lot of other things. I wanted it so we brought it to the checkout. The guy said that the painting didn’t count as part of the discount and said “Go find a sign that says wall decor,” as a joke. So i sat somewhere while my dad looked around. Then right behind me was a table that said wall decor. Then we got the discount :D

To be honest I understand the need for pride merch and I love that people can wear things / have items that show how proud they are to be lgbtq, but consumerism is awful in general right now. I think that for the benefit of our planet we shouldn't at all be supporting big companies such as walmart or barnes and noble. For example, many locally owned corner stores and book stores are driven away by these massive companies. It is really dangerous if you look into it. Also, many products in these stores are not built to last and are throwaway items that will further pollute the already awfully neglected environment. This isn't meant to shame anyone who enjoys having pride themed things, I also enjoy it. But I think we need to be a lot more conscious of our decisions of where we buy things, how much plastic is on them, and what places we openly support. I understand not everyone has that luxury and that is okay. But we have to realize that these companies are against us no matter what because of the way our late stage capitalistic society functions. And change happens from the ground up. All of your little actions matter. Of course, avoiding buying anything is not only unrealistic but it is also not the full solution. One huge thing you can do is to speak up, join protests, vote, educate yourself on government, wealth distribution, pollution, lgbtq rights, racism and environmental racism. I'm again not saying this to discourage anyone from enjoying their lives. But we also should realize how imminent our problems are and that everyone can benefit if we look at things as connected issues. For example, women's rights has shown to improve economic and quality of life. Education of women is one of the largest factors in improving society because it results in less unplanned pregnancy, less poverty, less environmental degradation, etc. Just wanted to bring all of this up!
EDIT: Important also is to see where the item was made. Lots of products are made in sweatshops or by child workers overseas. Take this into account, buy ethically if you can! You shouldn't buy apple products if you can avoid it. Look into fairphone. Their motto is "the most sustainable cell phone is the one in your pocket." Don't buy something you don't need if it can be avoided. Still treat yourself well, but be wary and think of the people who mine cobalt for your phone. Look it up if you can!

I guess something that bothers me about Netflix is in the past year, a comedy show was released and throughout the show, MULTIPLE transphobic and homophobic jokes were made. After that, some transgender employees protested, and they eventually fired the employee. I don't know if they apologized and rehired that employee or if they had a literal valid reason as to why they fired them, but I got rid of my subscription when that happened.

If it’s a company, it’s pandering. They don’t care about you, they care about their profit margins. No matter how much they seem like they are helping or how much their employees care, the companies don’t.

In some countries it's still banned unfortunately. It's up to the people to take a stand and demand change, by voting out the bigots.

We had a protest against the "Don't say gay" bill at my college and afterwards a bunch of us went to eat at the campus Chick-fil-A. The only thing more delicious than the Chick-fil-A sauce was the irony.

    companies : we support LGBTQ+
LGBTQ+ : because you care about us

LGBTQ+ : because you care about us right ?

NASA for example, doesn't even sell pride merch and doesn't squeeze the last cent from LGBT people neither do they turn their logo into rainbow colors. They support LGBT people without these typical marketing techniques like going to pride parades (like in San Francisco for example), you can download documents on their website where they stand for diversity in their workspaces and go by anti-discrimination rules to make a safe workplace for everyone and even post their support on Twitter every year. I own a lot of nasa merch and the money I spent there then goes to space which is something good to support for someone like me who's a big astronomy freak.

I don’t feel comfortable sharing my age(10-13) but I’m omni and still scared to come out. I already told my friends and siblings but I have quite a bit of close family. Any suggestions?

This is from a closeted person btw i may not be very reliable
But i think you should try to find out if your family supports like for example : say out loud “woah did you know insert celebrity is insert sexuality?” See how they react
If they react good then come out in a few years
If they don’t come out when you’re stable and are able to be in a safe situation
Like i said I’m closeted so sorry about that and good luck :)

I think you'd better not. Just in case. Maybe come out when you're in your own house
Edit: Yes I came out to my own family, and made the mistake of doing it while I lived under their roof

Hear me out; maybe we should just eat where we want, buy what we want, and wear what we want regardless of what the people making the products political or religious beliefs are. If Hitler made the best burgers in the entire world, I would probably eat his burgers. Just like I eat at Chick-Fil-A because I like their chicken, and wear Nike because I like their shoes and clothes. I couldn’t care less about whatever beliefs they hold. That’s like saying, “I don’t want to drink water because it has more hydrogen than oxygen in it, it’s being oxygenist. Let’s boycott water!”
    Sounds kinda silly doesn’t it?
