Thanks for inviting me to this cooking challenge. It was fun to make and came out so tasty. You encouraged me to use tempeh more often. And definitely made a believer out of me!😆☺️💗
I absolutely love this format it's pretty creative, not to mention looking at the reaction of the taste testers made it even more entertaining. Hope to see more videos like this in a future
I must be the odd one out because I LOVE the flavor of tempeh on its own. I just fry it up and eat it plain lol. BUT THESE RECIPES LOOK AMAZING. I'm going to try every single one. I'm pretty sure you're like, the best vegan cook on youtube honestly.
Yes, I just love Tempeh and never thought of it as bitter either! But these recipes are gorgeous and I’ll be trying them soon. I once made my own Tempeh with chickpeas instead of soya beans (I ordered the starter culture online) and it was so damn delicious that I’ve tried several ways of sourcing a store made chickpea Tempeh, because it was a bit time consuming when you live alone. Even phoned some suppliers 😂 Not available in my country, but hoping it will be soon! Thanks for a wonderful, fun and exciting video - always look forward to them, except I’d like them to be slightly slowed down a bit! ❤
I made a bomb tempeh wrap today by slicing the tempeh into thin strips and sauteeing them in oil with some sliced mushrooms. Then after they were all golden brown on both sides, I poured in a sauce I made from a tablespoon of ssamjang, soy sauce, and a splash of rice vinegar and sesame oil. When they were nicely coated with the sauce, I loaded up a tortilla with the tempeh and mushrooms, along with some crispy lettuce and ranch dressing (trust me, it goes really well together.) Try it, you will love it! Zero bitterness detected.
My mom has indonesian roots so I grew up eating tempeh dishes and I've always loved it! I always took it so personally when my Dutch classmates told me how disgusting (and smelly?) they found tempeh :') My favourite "traditional" tempeh dish is tempeh ketjap - super easy and delicious!
I ate tempeh for the first time last year and I'm 47. It's not at all smelly. It has a pleasant texture too. The taste is specifically tempeh. It's a new flavour if you didn't eat it before, but it's fairly mild. It's a lot worse the first time you're served sauerkraut.
Well I expect the dutch who had intermingled with us since almost forever should have a pallet strong enough by now to breez through our unique and strong flavor preferences. But maybe, just maybe, they are europeans being europeans
Tempeh doesn't smell much at all, at most like a brie cheese maybe? They can stomach raw caviar blue cheese and sauerkraut but they cross the line at beans?
The BBQ tempeh is SOO GOOD! I have made it multiple times. Honestly the best BBQ sauce i have every made. Perfectly balanced and super easy. Highly recommend.
LOL we eat mashed potatoes pretty frequently in my house. No kids. Just love em 😂 Soooo excited to try these!! I've had a hard time with tempeh but I know it's great for protein. Looking forward to trying it next grocery trip!
Let me just say that it’s very, very relaxing to watch your videos. Well done. I love to try new recipes and your channel is awesome in providing that + a comfort feeling. Similar to when you spend years without going to your hometown and then you go visit it* and everything hits you with nostalgia.
I love the viewers/taste testers feedback. This is a great format to incorporate into your videos. Loved it. I too don’t care for tempeh, but I will definitely try one or two of the recipes and see if I too can be converted. Thanks for putting this one together.
@@RainbowPlantLife I heard you say that! I’ll definitely skip it for these recipes to save some time 👏 thank you so much for all these delicious, cruelty free recipes.
@@keeganitreal Indonesian here. Fresh and good tempeh shouldn't taste bitter. It just have nutty flavor. Bitter tempeh means it is old or over fermented. Even most indonesian don't like to eat that. Here in indonesia, we only sell fresh tempeh just for one day. The seller won't sell them again in the next day, so everyday is always new batch of freshly made tempeh. I'm sad that store bought tempeh which taste terrible in western countries makes people hates tempeh. ☹️ Sorry for my english
This is one of my most favorite videos you've made -- the tester reactions were the BEST!!!!! BTW: I do mine in the air fryer and loved hearing from a tester for the BBQ that they did it in the air fryer. It's a game changer!!
This was a very fun video to watch! And I definitely will be trying these recipes. Tempeh for me was definitely an acquired taste but after 27 years I am definitely a fan. In fact, I just found some unexpired tempeh in that back of my fridge and got excited!
I absolutely LOVED this format and the recipes I've tried so far were simple and DELICIOUS. I've made the tempeh taco's twice now and they're a huge hit with my non-vegan dad as well- I think he might even like them more than me! I had some leftover canned corn the first time I made them, so I charred it a bit in a frying pan and added that to the tacos as well- what a match made in heaven! The avocado crema also makes an incredible base for avocado toast or sandwiches. I've used the method for cutting tempeh in the kecap for other stir fries as well. I can't wait to try the bbq sandwhich!
this came in handy because i have two packs of tempeh in my fridge!! now I know what to do with them!! You should keep this as a series! it was so much fun to watch!
This was such a fun video ! I am not a huge fan of temphe either and have been wanting to give it another try and this definitely inspired me! What a fun idea to have taste testers! I thought it was really fun to see home ooks make you recipes and testing for themselves to have their reaction in the video ! Can't wait to see more videos like these ! ♥️
I might make the tacos form my family. I’ve been wanting to try tempeh as I struggle with eating enough protein so this video was perfect. Thank you so much, I absolutely love your energy.
I’m not vegan, but love trying new things and finding meat alternatives to incorporate into our normal diet. Also never had tempeh before. I made the tacos and, honest opinion, really really good! The tempeh has a mild nutty flavor and the other toppings are so flavorful. Will be making this again ❤
This is by far my favorite episode you've ever done! The recipes are quick, simple and delicious. Your commentary on the taste tester videos is so hilarious - I would watch a video of you just doing that!
This is a great idea! I have issues with texture so I'm not sure that I would try any of these recipes, but I'm very encouraged by the enthusiastic responses from the testers. 😊👍🏾
Love this format! I have used lime leaves and lemongrass in recipes, but never eaten them…they usually just perfume the dish but are removed (or pushed aside). I’ve never made anything with tempeh but you’ve persuaded me to try.
This totally deserved to get a lot more views. I often struggle to watch videos in one sitting and often get distracted. But I watched this whole thing nonstop because it was so interesting. Can’t wait to try these recipes.
Nisha, this format is brilliant, I've never seen a cooking video with real reactions like this, you must do more of these! I've never eaten tempeh but now I want to make all 3 recipes, thank you
I love the idea behind this video! I never used to enjoy tempeh but have slowly begun to love it. I'm not vegan but lacto veg and your recipes have really made me excited to try new things for lunch (and for my kids). I do boil or steam the tempeh once before cooking it, because I don't always use bold flavours with it - sometimes we just leave it for salads or to snack on!
this video was super cool and unique! loved the collab with viewers and getting their live reactions. whoever did your video editing also did an excellent job!
I can't believe I missed this when you posted it! I love tempeh but I've only ever ordered it as take-out and have never tried to prepare it myself and have been wanting to give it a go so this is perfect! I'm so excited to try these :D
I had a cold this weekend and binge watched most of your videos, they are amazing! I am not vegan (yet) but I was diagnosed with alpha gal, a tick related illness that creates an allergy to mammal products, so I am learning about vegan cooking to round out my nutrition. After watching your videos, I am seriously considering going mostly vegan (I raise chickens and feel good eating their eggs). Thanks for the inspiration!!

Hey Nisha, I am so glad that you included a recipe for barbecue sauce. I was looking for one the other day because I wanted to make a barbecue tempeh sub. I did find one that was sugarless and it was okay but I will try your recipe to use with the seasoned tempeh I found, soon. I enjoy making your recipes because they have so much flavor. I have to admit that I don't like the recipes that have a lot of ingredients because I can't find some of the ingredients locally. I try to do the ones that I have ingredients in my pantry.
I tried the BBQ tempeh last night, and it is absolutely going in my regular rotation. I made some vinegar based slaw, and it made amazing BBQ sandwiches. I can't wait to try the tacos now!
Nishaaaa! Thank you for cooking tempeh! I’m Indonesian and I never understand why non-Indonesians never liked tempeh coz it’s like a staple here I eat it every week. There is sooooo much more traditional tempeh recipes, and I hope you can try them! We have garlic, brined then fried tempeh (idk what these are called but they’re so good), tempe bacem, tempe mendoan, and what you have cooked, we called it tempe orek. Personally, I add tamarind and shaved brown sugar, and only add fried peanuts (and fried little anchovies for non vegans). They last a looong time in a jar in the tropics so they’re perfect for a quick breakfast or as a side. Love you videos!
Great idea and well executed! You made it look effortless even though I’m sure a mountain or work went into this video! Loved seeing all the reactions and I’m convinced enough to give tempeh another try 😊
I love the subscriber submissions! Great concept and a really great video. Your recipes are the foundation of our weekly rotation. I'm going to try the tacos and probably add those too
Well these recipes look divine! I love tempeh. I make a wonderful bacon crumbled tempeh that I love and put on everything! ☺️🙏♥️ Thank you. I can't wait to try these recipes!
I will definitely try making your tempeh kicap with lesser sugar & add some lemon juice in it. I would also finely chop & stir in some baby spinach, arugula, green onions, cilantro or parsley before serving it. Trust me - this is one dish that blesses you with a huge myriad of flavours & it can never be wrong!
Stumbled on this video looking for ways to prepare tempeh. Just made these tacos, they are phenomenal! The flavors are so well balanced and the texture of the crema with the crunch of the tempeh and pickles is perfect.
I went out yesterday and bought the ingredients for the tacos. I just got finished eating three lol absolutely delicious like eating in a upscale Vegan Restaurant except in my dining room. I’m really blown away with how good these are, thank you so much for sharing I cannot wait to try these on family and friends 😊
I don’t know what is wrong with people. Tempeh is not bitter. I love the taste even raw out of the pack. it has a beautiful, earthy, natural flavor. People are too used to artificial flavors that they think anything natural is “bitter” or gross
I have tried the kecap and the bbq tempeh ... WOW! Loved them and i have not been much of a fan of tempeh at all. Thanks so much for tackling this and working hard to develop such yummy recipes!
I love this recipe so much! I am new to plant-based stuff, and my mom turned me onto Tempeh, then sent me your channel. This recipe just makes it better, but I actually really like it raw and unseasoned as well 😊.
Pretty soon you will be over a million subscribers! A testament to the high quality of your videos, and the value that you are sharing with others! I am so happy for you!
Thank you so much! I've really struggled with forcing myself to like tempeh. I've tried boiling, etc, but nothing helped. The crumbling technique with hot pan saute worked perfectly. I ended up mixing in a teriyaki sauce in the end, and serving it as a bowl, with rice, pickled veggies, and cilantro. My wife and kids devoured it! They've never eaten any of my tempeh dishes before...
Begone the days of boiling/steaming slices of tempeh before vaguely crisping it up in a pan and slathering it in BBQ sauce! Dunno why I was always scared to skip the boiling/steaming, but the slices look so much more crispy and nice with your method. Can't wait to try these out, so happy to see new recipes using ingredients that deserve more love.
Tempeh is legit incredible, I've been making the Vegan with a Vengeance fennel tempeh crumbles recipe for like 15 years, one of my favorite meals and it goes with so many things - breakfast with toast, add it to pasta, etc. Thanks for the new recipes!
Super fun video. I have cooked the same (delicious) tempeh recipe for years (no, I'm not tired of it; Kim Barnouin's Peanut Pasta Tempeh...so good, and a staple in my house), and I've been trying to increase my protein. (As a vegetarian for 30+ years, the carbs just begin to add up...increasing protein helps.) What I like about this video the most, though, is seeing how the three different ways you treat tempeh. My favorite tempeh recipe uses the method you used for your tacos, but I've never actually tried it in tacos. But I will. Definitely going to try all three of these, but it gives me ideas, too. Love that.
Update: I can now confirm that these tacos are delicious! The day after I made them, I went back to the store for more tempeh so I could have them two days in a row. They’re that good! And pickled shallots and jalapeños are my new favorite thing. Thank you for this recipe and video! I would not have tried this were it not for the others who didn’t like tempeh. Yum!
These look amazing and I hope you make this a series of fans making your dishes. So cool. Also, never stop giggle at ketchup farts because then, we will all have to admit we are growing up and that not needed. LOL.
So excited to try some of your recipes. My husband. Was diagnosed with prostate cancer and we have cut out most meats and sugar. But it has been hard try to find good tasting recipes. I need all the help I can get!
I saw this video this morning. My mouth watered when I saw the tempeh tacos, so I made them for dinner. They are delicious! Thank you for this great video. ❤
We had so much fun making this video with our very own RPL community! Which food should we tackle next in this series?
Collard greens please
Gravy for biscuits or something with mushrooms
Marmite? It's a good source of B vitamins but it is absolutely rancid on toast
Kidney beans :/

I’m really blown away with how good these are, thank you so much for sharing I cannot wait to try these on family and friends 😊
Wow these recipes look great!! I love tempeh but I'm always looking for new ways to incorporate it, can't wait to try these out!!
I don’t know what is wrong with people. Tempeh is not bitter. I love the taste even raw out of the pack. it has a beautiful, earthy, natural flavor. People are too used to artificial flavors that they think anything natural is “bitter” or gross
Agree with you it’s delicious, especially when you make it spicy or in the forms of chips ! 😊
I have tried the kecap and the bbq tempeh ... WOW! Loved them and i have not been much of a fan of tempeh at all. Thanks so much for tackling this and working hard to develop such yummy recipes!
I can tell this video took A LOT of work, research, and recipe testing. Thank you for making top notch content, Nisha!
Love these!!! I marinate mine a lot as well for a day and it soaks the flavors up really well!
Can’t wait to try these. I think I’ll start with the tacos! I absolutely love your chickpea taco recipe, so I’m sure this one will be just as good!
I absolutely LOVE tempeh and these recipes look over the top amazing. Awesome video!
I just made the tacos, and I am fan - they are delicious and they are definitely making it on my weekly meal rotation!
Begone the days of boiling/steaming slices of tempeh before vaguely crisping it up in a pan and slathering it in BBQ sauce! Dunno why I was always scared to skip the boiling/steaming, but the slices look so much more crispy and nice with your method. Can't wait to try these out, so happy to see new recipes using ingredients that deserve more love.
i already love tempeh, but wow--what a delightful way to prepare it! can't wait to give it a try.
Love that.
7:27 they are Kiwi! Haha love the look of these… I don’t usually like tempeh either so will have to try! Your channel is awesome, from New Zealand ❤
Haha whoops 😬 I love both kiwi and Aussie accents so either would excite me 😂
Great video! So cute! I’m making those tacos tonight! Yum! Stir fry later this week! I have been wanting some good tempeh recipes!
So happy you liked the video, Jennifer! And excited for you to try these recipes 😁
I loved this video format. It was so fun to watch. Okay, I’m convinced to try tempeh again.
Loved the feedback from viewers part!! I feel like no other chef RUclipsr has done this
What a great video idea! This was such much fun to watch and I’m a tempeh skeptic who is now excited to try tempeh again. C’mon tacos!
Haha mission accomplished! I’m excited for you to try tempeh!
Yum!
Thank you for sharing all your recipes!!! ❤
Nisha, these tempeh recipes are life savers! You look gorgeous in that black top as well!
We are making the Kecap for the 2nd time this week! Glad to find a recipe to use this healthy ingredient!

Cannot wait to try theses recipes as I never know what to do with tempeh and never really enjoy it. Thanks for the tips. Learnt so much already
Thank you, thank you, thank you Nisha! I've been experimenting with tempeh and now I have a few more tasty options. I can't wait to try them!
I saw this video this morning. My mouth watered when I saw the tempeh tacos, so I made them for dinner. They are delicious! Thank you for this great video. ❤
