If you've missed the last few episodes, we decided to buy a cabin, move into it and get comfortable for the winter. It has been a LONG 4 years of self building our home and it's time we start living again. Now that it's been a few weeks, this cozy cottage is exactly what our souls needed!

How did we end up here?
It all began with a year of full-time travel, embracing the van life until the world shifted, and we had to adjust accordingly. With travel no longer an option but determined to stay productive, we transformed our compact mobile abode into a self-sufficient off-grid dwelling that fulfilled all our needs. Recognizing the uncertainty of the current tiny home, we quickly realized a permanent residence was the most sensible choice. Over the past three years, we have meticulously overseen every aspect of the project ourselves, planning the construction while simultaneously setting up the off-grid property to sustain our future food requirements. For the last two years we've lived in a Geodesic Dome, which has allowed us to be comfortable (expect for the winter months), while we realize our shipping container home dream. However, this will mark our 4th winter with stable electricity, running water, or a flushing toilet and time has come to come up with a new plan going forward.
Thank you Seed for partnering with me on this video!

Our shoulders are STILL sore from shovelling all that snow…or maybe it was the washer and dryer? 😂 This was definitely not the week we expected having after coming back from a week away with the family but we’re ending it with clean panties and with 3 feet less of snow blocking all our pathways and entrances lol…I’m always so curious what all of you who live in southern climates must think of how we live up here. It’s incredibly beautiful but holy smokes, it’s SO much work. Can we all collectively cross our fingers we don’t get hit with another storm like this??

Loveys, we've got a very mild sea climate here...with life threathening storms provoking high waves to invade the land... So streets might be flooded, or homes, cliffs broken off, fishermen or boats missing, the ones who stayed on land workless for days onward. Our living conditions make us part of the bigger picture, humble and searching our strength, discovering our resiliance.
      U guys need a proper vacation...soon ;-))))

I live in the Arizona desert, and despise the summers because they are hot AF! Like oppressively HOT. 🥵 But the rest of the year the temperatures are great. I completely agree that Canada is absolutely gorgeous, but the amount of work to maintain everything is totally insane. I don’t know how you all keep doing it. I think Canadians are just made from stronger stuff. Thank God you were able to end the week in clean panties! That’s all that really matters!! 😂🩲😂🩲😂

I'm finnish so we get lots of snow every winter and it really is super pretty but also a pain in the ass. Sometimes the roads melt and then freeze again and everyone keeps slipping and when there is a lot of snow, you are really limited to only walking on roads. Otherwise it's my favourite season. No bugs (most importantly) and really pretty glittery snow!

This reminds me of our first week in Canada. It was November 13 when the snow fell and it covered the first floor of our two-story house. Now we originally were from South Africa and the only snow I had ever seen was a dusting of Snow in Cape Town it was warm so we did not know how cold it would be or how icy it would be. We lived on a hill and my mum asked me to get some groceries for her which was below this hill. I had no winter clothes and I started slipping down this hill with a car coming towards me. I had to throw myself into the snow and shivered to get the groceries. I can tell you I am so happy I live on Vancouver Island because I still do not love Winters.

I have been watching Tyler and Todd for 2 years or more, I really looked forward to each RUclips posting,It was very exciting to see what they were doing and making their home become a reality, And then came the large house by the lake, I understand they were burned out by all the work and time they spent trying to make things work and I admit it was hard work. When they first talked about the house, my thinking was maybe they could rent it for 6 months or so to decompress from all the work and time they spent so far, Then after what ever time they spent at the house they would be re freshed and winter would be over. Well, I don’t know their plans are but I think they have given up on their home in the woods, there have been no new youtube updates. So I have decided to move on, I am watching 3 great channels on youtube, one is about a family from England moved to France,. bought an a convent, a chateau and are busy working on both with a lot of new chapters on you tube, the other is also a family from the UK who also moved to France and are also doing a great job of putting these wonderful places back in order and finally there is. fellow from Holland and he bought a piece of property in Italy with 2 small buildings and is doing a wonderful job of making them into his home, So now I have a lot to look forward to..

Like you two, I also need to rebuild a deck that sees significant snow every winter. I saw a cool tip a while ago. When building the railing, make a small section (1 meter?) removable. Place it in an area where you can push snow off of the deck. Makes it much easier than trying to scoop it up and throw it over the top of the railing.

I don’t like winter anymore , this is why one escaped UK to be with my Thai boyfriend in the northeast of Thailand and absorb some heat and sunshine . Happy days it is 36C here ! But always enjoy your updates ! Bless you two , dogs and cat!

The new washers launder your clothes completely different from the previous generation of washers. They use less water. The first time we used ours, I couldn't believe the clothes would be clean without being sloshed about in water, but clean clothes we had when it finished. We had three snow storms come in within 3 weeks, dumping more snow than predicted each time. I was truly envious when I saw your "snow blower" in action!

Front load washing machines use way less water than top load machines. And they are gentler on clothes than top load, meaning your clothes will last longer using a front load machine versus a top load machine.
But, make sure you check the seal around the door often. Top load machines tend to be "wetter" around the seal, which could lead to mold and mildew buildup. It's quite easy to clean away the mold and mildew with a damp rag...which you can then throw into the wash. Simply unfold the rubber gasket around the machine opening and wipe clean.
When I bought my house in 1999 I needed to buy a washer and dryer. I had limited space, so I bought a front loader because I could stack them (they could also be used side by side). I've had the same washer and dryer ever since and love them! I've never had a problem with either. And, I got them at a "scratch and dent" store, so I paid, total, less for the pair than I would have paid for the (gas) dryer alone. It's in the garage, so who cares if it's a little scratched (and I mean a little scratched) on the side.

Glad you made it home safely. Sorry you had a hard clean up. Sometimes you have to do things yourself to get it done and right. Awesome job guys, just awesome.
The fur babies were so happy to see both of you.
See you next week. Rest up some, everything will still be there.
Love you guys and the fur babies too ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

Charlie is doing so good! I'm thrilled his leg healed. I like snow, but 3'? Tyler, you looked like a little gopher popping out of its hole! Also, you will find yourself using that dollie all the time now that you have it. And watching the washing machine - it's the simple things in life that are the best. Shoulda had a glass of wine. 🍷

Good job prioritizing the deck! One of my friends forgot to shovel hers and the weight of the snow broke it off her house.
