  • @mariovenanzi7812
    @mariovenanzi7812 4 года назад +612

    Hi everyone! I study Kathak (Indian classical dance). The reason why people potentially perceive this choreography as Indian is possibly due to some cultural markers. They frequently use the Anjali Mudra (Namaste pose) throughout the choreography. Moreover, they also greet each other with an Adab pose (e.g. 0:50) which is an Indian muslim greeting.
    The belly dancing (raqs sharqi) on the other hand is mostly associated with Arab/Middle Eastern culture. Apart from this, the choreography is mostly culturally ambiguous and therefore Orientalist (i.e. western construct of the East).

    This is my take. Agrabah was supposed to have its own culture that mixed Asian and Middle Eastern cultures into one. So it has elements of both Indian and Arabic dance choreography in the dance as well. You've also got to remember that you have actors in this who are of Egyptian, Arabic, Iranian, Tusinian and Indian descent. They're multicultural, therefore it's best to reflect that in the film as well.

    i LOVE THIS!!! I feel terrible I didnt give a chance becauce the critics said '' ITS NOT AS GOOD AS THE ORIGINAL'' - I feel sickened I believed them - this film is a beautiful escape from reality and is done with truly harmonious music (if you not what I mean - not a trace of Shepheard tone) - it was beautiful and romatic and more people should have seen it with the people they loved! Why the Critics pan it? The cinema is SO EXPENSIVE - I would have loved this moment in the cinema with my Mum, My Apologies to you - Guy Ritchie - it is a beautiful mesmerising film, in the best way that I cant forget - another beautiful possible world X
