Hermann Baumann plays the Weber Concertino: I. I.Adagio - Andante II. Andante con moto - Adagio III. Placca
Bravo maestro! Always a joy to listen. Am still playing your encore piece, "Im Tiefsten Walde." Addio, JC 📯
Rest in peace. His horn playing was phenomenal and this is the best recording of the Weber Concertino!
0:00 adagio (84-88bpm)
1:55 andante con moto
3:16 A. Con fuoco (69-72)
3:55 B.
4:36 C
5:27 Cadenza
7:14 double notes
8:05 Polacca (100-104)
9:28 E. (~92-96)
10:53 F.
12:00 G.
Anyone who has the courage to commit their version to a commercial recording is an absolute hero/heroine as far as I am concerned. I have 3 recordings - Baumann (but not this one), Tuckwell and Halstead - I love them all. I sound just like them all - in the bars' rests!
Maesttro Baumann, an interpreter who will always be a great reference in the horn. Genius.
Rest in Peace dear professor. Thanks for your music
The big hero of my childhood-I heard Baumann day and night and with him I started a big love with the horn;-)
The low registers at the end of 2nd mov are incredible!
Being an amateur hornist myself I must say this is a magnificent and wonderful performance both of orchestra and conductor but especially the hornplayer!!What a soft and mellow tone! Bravo bravissimo! 🙏🏻
I got to hear him play the Weber live in recital back in the 1970s.
In this performance he's formidable! Magnific sound! Baumann's Show!
Rest in peace maestro!
lol all you people hating on Baumann are still just reeling from the fact that he started when he was 19 and you guys that have been playing since you were 10, 11, and 12 years old are still not even close... the guy is truly a cut above the rest of us...
He started at 17
Bazinga!
Anyway, I agree with Rawhide. This man deserves a special place in the history of the horn
I started at 3
I was privileged to attend a master class with Herr Baumann and he stressed over and over again that any musician was there to pay homage to the music. MUSIC! MUSIC! MUSIC! Practice? Of course but less stress on you as the performer and on what kind of horn you have and what bells and whistles it has.

Wonderfull playing. Very musical. I never heard even from the best hornist.
I played with him 1980. It was a fantastic time.
I spent six months as a Baumann student in 1976. I also started late (19) but never achieved a decent embouchure and setup. In six months Hermann could not really do much for me but it was great to have the experience. He and Hella were great company over a few glasses of vino.
Weber writes brilliantly - Baumann plays beautifully and shows real personality in this interpretation - he is of course technically amazing. A thoroughly enjoyable and deep recording. I'm almost speechless!
Baumann makes this beast of a composition sound elegant. Perfetto.
the singing horn player
By "singing" you mean literally singing while playing? I hear what sounds like his vocalizing a harmony with his playing around 7:40 plus and minus. Sure sounds like it. Kind of funny to hear in a recording like he's sort of fooling around.
it's a part of the piece! weber wrote vocal harmony for the player to sing while playing in the horn part.
Oh... First time I ever heard of such a thing. As a teen, I used to play around with vocalizing harmony (badly) 50+ years ago with my cornet... didn't know such tricks were ever performed in a serious piece till now.
the best Horn player ever, for me!
Beautifully written Beautifully performed
Amazing and great clear voices, Bravo!
Singing Weber!!
Baumann The singer hornplayer.
I know baumann petsonaly and had the honor to play his horn
Great recording :)
BEAUTIFUL PLAYING!
just amazing!!!
fantastico! perfetto!!!!
아주 인상적 연주, 깊은 감동, 영혼의 울림. very impressive, moved and cleaning my soul.
I enjoyed Baumann's performance; he had a remarkable influence on the orchestra and conducted it with a profound understanding.
Wunderschön!
My French horn inspiration for today!!!!
das Mass aller Dinge im Hornspielen
Le meilleur!
excelente!
Ausgezeichnet!
How can you play so good
Hermannilla oli hieno viikon vierailu Tampereella 80-luvulla. Mukavat jääkiekko pelit ja Tiiliholvi-illat. Lopuksi solistina Strauss 2 konsertto
Baumann made the best performances of Weber and Gliere .
Idk about gliere but in the case of Weber absolutely
Baborak is a very technical hornist, but I prefer Baumann for his phrasing and interpretation.
He's a great musician first. There are several major professional horn players who asked for his musical coaching more so than the horn technique. His Mozart hand horn performances are arguably the best. It would have been great to hear him play this monster on hand horn as well.
It is very, very difficult. I am about to finish my horn studies at a german concervatory soon and I wouldn't yet dare to play this piece.

Imagine if Denis Brain played this :O
:v
Yes Charles, l can't imagine what Denis Brain would have made of this work. However l DO know that he never played the Konzertstuck for 4 horns. Apparently, he said that he would not base his reputation on high notes. So it is possible that he simply didn't like 'show pieces' for horn, of which the Weber is one.
Denis is my favourite hornist of all time. He never overplayed or over-interpretted , yet his playing was virtually perfect and ethereal. Oh yes, and he tounged everything - never slurred!
Having said all that, Bauman's playing is unbelievably good, and he's 'up there' with the best of them. Personally l prefer Halstead's hand-horn performance, mainly because he makes an 'English' sound'. I never attempted this work.
Richard Duckett of Team Brass
Geblasen auf H-Horn von Engelbert Schmid, also in Es-Griffweise. Intelligent!
Baumann is a master! I absolutely love this piece as well, and it's probably my fav horn piece of all time, but listening to it now, I totally forgot how stupid that high C sounds at 4:54. Baumann manages to make it sound more natural that most would be able to, but it's still such a ridiculous and out-of-place-sounding flourish in my ears. Last movement is still flawless in writing and execution, though.
Don’t forget the d sharp at the end he nails
Baborak and he are the best :)

And Barry Tuckwell!
Fantastic playing!!! Does anyone know if it is played on a 103 horn? When I was at the factory, the manager told me that Baumann used the 103 model horn for over 20 years.
For a good horn player It's a pretty hard--you have to account all the phrases, the expression that the soloist (he/she will put into the piece),and make sure that you are playing with a crisp sound and keeping the notes(and articulation) true to the piece.
how
I can do III.Placa
i dont play horn, but exactly how hard is this piece? I looked up the sheet music and it very demanding coming from a clarinet play like my self
Exetremely difficult
One of the hardes
III.Placca is very weird to play in some spots
Rugilockk
Are all the trills lip trills? 1:22 11:37
first no second yes
@@somebody9033Thanks. The second one (two) are really impressive if he really lipped them
:o
HOW THE HECK DO YOU DO 3 - 4 PART HARMONY!? I can only do 2!!!!
Of course, you sing into the horn. But most important is the TAMBRE of your voice,,, not all of us can pull it off. Compare Baumann and Barborak... even the harmonics come out differently...LOL ! When I was playing professionally in Europe, I practiced this piece incessantly for about 6 months, but would never try to perform it...Hah ! Bravo !
@@apfelsnutz Haha, this was from seven years ago, I had completely forgotten about it. I actually figured out how to do harmony on the horn since then, but the middle b part at the end of the cadenza is quite challenging - though I haven't yet practiced it truly. How did the piece feel after 6 months? Any better? Also, for all those that wonder how to do polyphonic - play a note (low usually) and while the air is sustaining the note, hum (the other 'harmonies' are there by nature of like-vibrations when the right note is hummed on top of the pedal note - it's a phenomenon one can hear on a piano if one plays a low open 5th chord, listen for the major 3rd softly vibrating in a higher octave.)
@@webusch3 Oh, I was looking for something to play with the orchestra. Decided instead, to play the Stich Concerto #5... came off really well. Thanks for the reply... Ron
I prefer Baborak but this one is greatly played too
Style français?

Yeah, a concertino with my last name is bound to sound grand 🙃😏
I prefer Baumann
but i prefer him
28 thumbs down? They have to be drug addicts
Incredibly. You'd most likely hear this from a good college player or a very brave high schooler.

For anyone interested in a more refined sound, Mr. Stainbrook has a wonderful version on the JHorn ruclips.net/video/r5AQKgdzd3Q/видео.html
N´importe quoi... pff... who the fuck is Barboteu ?!
Tbh, he's good, but his tone when he plays fast with articulation is pretty awful. It's so brassy, unclean and unclear. In my opinion, Radek Baborak is much better because he always makes a good sound and never has a nasty edge to his articulated notes.
+Joseph Longstaff Well, Weber is the first exponent of demoniac romanticism. His fast articulations and his tone expression aren't made to be eroic, they have to be scary. For me, this interpretation is maybe the best we can find on youtube!
+A.F. Galopp Scary is not exactly the word that comes to mind when I hear this jaunty E major concertino.
+Joseph Longstaff thank god nobody pays you for that opinion
+Joseph Longstaff I can hear what you're talking about, but honestly, the expression is what I care about, and he has that in spades. There are other ways to appreciate music than strict classical formalism...
Honestly it's that kind of thinking that ruins the art form. I think his use of the edgy tone on the horn is literally perfect for an intense trotting melody.
Baumann is completely overrated. my primary school horn teacher played it once but it was way clearer and better than this guy! #mongrelsound
Pedro Luis Giménez Actually, it would be pretty amazing if Baborak was his teacher.
Peter Kiss doesn't that make his teacher a teenager? :|
C K.M. Of course not, he's probably hitting forty around this time. There's just a lot of videos of him playing as a teenager, because he is incredible.
haha, no.. I was talking about his Reily's mentor! If baborak is his teacher, then Reily's mentor must've been a teenager
OK. Thanks for clearing that up!
