Jesus christ this is beautiful. Such expressive and articulate playing. Also the audio + video quality is astounding and really does your fantastic playing justice. Keep up the great work!
I was playing Puechner bassoons for more than 50 yrs and loved them. But here I am flashed how well this rather old Heckel bassoon sounds. I congratulate Donatien to this wonderful instrument. And of course: the instrument is only part of it - it needs a player who is mastering this rather difficult bassoon concerto! Well done - Chapeau!
Why is this richly toned, excitingly varied and innovative creation not played more? Is it that the skill and animation invoked makes it rarely performed? It is valuable to see as well as hear Donatien Bachmann rendering it with such passion and presumed accuracy from memory. Bravo!
@@mrbigarms mmm no, i didn’t know about that one actually! For what I know in those years (1840-1846) Rossini was not feeling really healthy and and he was not composing any new music. he was working in a music Academy in Bologna where he supposedly met Nazareno Gatti. we are not sure on how much Rossini collaborated in the writing of this music, but for sure he is the inspiration!
Brilliant performance. Amazing tone, such precision on the fast runs and giving this delightful and underperformed concerto a distinctively fresh sound and character. Bravo!!

@@donatienbachmann Thanks for the reply, and once again EXCELLENT job on the video. I date these Heckels to about 1956, though you may have a more precise estimation. I actually wrote to Heckel once, and they told me mine was made for an American player, and I believe they said 1956 - 57.
RUclips is giving us many new basson players,3 of them are in a superclass and this is one of them..
Such a underrated instrument
Yeah, imagine if it was included in every orchestra 🤡
@@Shosty barely has any big parts

truly a beautiful performance. those high notes in the slow movement were breathtaking, as much for him as for the audience.

What an amazing performance played by an outstanding bassoonist! by far the best interpretation of this piece I have ever seen!

Well, I never knew Rossini wrote a Bassoon concerto! This is just beautiful, I'm surprised it isn't better known!
It´s my favorite
Oddly it wasn't rediscovered until the 1990's
it is actually not written by Rossini but from Nazareno Gatti, that used Rossini’s style!
@@sofiavecchiato1659 Are you not getting mixed up with Luigi Gatti - Bassoon Concerto in F?
