    This is absolutely the BEST RECORDING, to my knowledge, of this horn quartet. Thank you for the posting. I listen to this and think of the Alpha and Omega of horn playing...

      As a 70 year old pro horn player, Alex 5 valve, mouth pc 8-m, visited shop in germany, messed/played many horns. berlin boys were in shop played La chasses, we drank much beire/ale, and the night went on. I was 16 then, Thanks to every one.

      @@anthonysmith8779 Hi Tony, I am now a 77yr old pro still playing occasionally Principal in three orchestras in the USA, I played 20 or so years in Europe after college. Scottish Chamber, Netherlands Chamber, Belgian National Opera and many others as [Schnabler Principal.] We spent many a day, week, working at Paxman to develope the Triple with Dick and Bob, and then after hours to the Nag's Head to rethink it all ! Yes, there's nothing like that in the US... Specially at the LAphil and the Studios here in Los Angeles. All the Best to you...

      His son Alexander was a prolific composer, whose works often blend the Russian tradition with the influence of Chinese music. Also his two grandsons were/are composers of their own time...possibly great grand children as well.

    This is lovely.
    I am no musician, but is this played in two parts? Listening to the timbre, could you substitute some of the horns for euphonium? would this enhance the piece? A mixture of the two sounds?

      Hi Robert. I have made a trombone quartet setting of this: www.enspub.com/pages/40/40695.htm

    • @defense9989
      @defense9989 5 месяцев назад

      I don't understand what you mean by "in two parts". It is written for four horns, and four horns are playing in this recording. I think that the music is written for instruments that blend well together (esp. in the first and sixth quarter). A mixture of different instruments would not enhance the piece, only alter it and prevent the blending. That being said, feel free to adapt the music for other instruments to your liking and see what happens.
