This movie is basically about my worst fear and it was so well made that while i was watching it for the first time i had forgotten i was seeing a movie. This is probably the most realistic post apocalypse movie i have ever seen.
To be human in all circumstances; to carry the fire, to take the terrible risk of trusting another human being. A heartbreakingly beautiful film: Mortensen, Theron, Duval, the boy they are all amazing.
Watched this movie alone last night.. Couldn't sleep after it. That horrific feeling you get from an WW2 movies, It's exactly that x100. So sad and I'm happy the ending didn't end I thought it would.. Still, very sad. And realistic on so many ways!
it was a bit silly with the people in the basement missing limbs what was that about!!! however the acting was good. If people were going to be killed for cannibalism they wouldn't be killed bit by bit ha. There were a couple of silly parts and the father running carrying the boy, those pursuers must've been the worst trackers ever!
The most emotionally impacting part of this film to me is a tie between when he puts the gun to his son's head in the bathroom, and the son asks' Will I ever see you again?', or the part where he breaks down at the sight of the piano. The piano scene is the only moment where he is allowed to feel sorry for himself, instead of his son, giving their relationship yet more meaning and power.
If you were moved by the book or the movie, you should read the article "Carry the fire" by Brett McKay on the website art of manliness. He puts the book's and movie's message in perspective with what it means to be a father. Tragically beautifull.
A new take on the post apaocalyptic theme. Taking you in deep thoughts every moment. This movie will leave you speechless and with your feet firmly on the ground. The acting was superb from both Viggo and Kodi. If you havent read the book before watching this, well this is one of the rare occasions where although completly lyal to the book, actually axceeds in many ways...Without given too much away, this is a must see movie, You will not see anything like it for a long time...10/10
Certainly is a movie that will last. Concept aside, that scene with the people in the basement is not only horrific, but it also makes you angry. So there's a juxtaposition between helping the kid, the captives, and then forced to teach the kid to commit suicide. McCarthy should probably wright his next book about puppies. Ease up there you depressed genius...
(SPOILER ALERT) I shed man tears. Not when his wife gives up and walks away to her death. Not when the father coughs blood and you realize he has cancer and is going to die. Not when he dies. But when that kind family adopts the boy, and that they had a real live dog. First time I ever welled up to a movie. Ever.
oh this film looks great!! i am now going to get the book and read it before i see the film so i dnt have any insight into the story!! looks like a very emotional story!! viggo is a brilliant actor!! and very sweet!
I saw this movie yesterday, damn it was much better than expected, i was really worried it was gonna be one of those stupid The Day After Tommorow movie - but it wasn't at all! It was so full of emotions, and Viggo did and amazing job! And the kid, his name is Cody or something (in real life that is) is an amazing actor! I love how everything is so anonomys, i mean you don't really know to much, but you just hope it will go well for Viggo and his son, man it was depressing but amazing, original!
Playing Fallout 3 means so much more now! lol. Can't play that game without thinking of this movie and it gets me into it so much more... Also great movie! Loved it
I watched about a third of this film on tv last night, and that third was brilliant. I love post-apocalyptic films cause it shows how humans change when a terrible event happens, and they are all awesome films. Viggo is easily on of my favourite actors, and I'm pretty sure there's a line used in this film similar to one in lord of the rings, it had the same meaning but I can't remember what it was
want to watch this...aware that kodi's starring as well...he acted brilliantly in 'rumulus, my father' but i hope its not another 2012 or those kind of movies...i think they've exhausted our screens
Your absolutely right, I saw the trailer AFTER I saw the movie, and the trailer is misleading, the movie is much better than the trailer makes it out to be.
0:07 the police walking into a burning city is film footage from the L.A. riots and it was also used in the 2004 remake of Dawn of the dead in the opening credits showing the society falling apart
Superb performance by Viggo, doing what he does best. The role of "outcast" who conveys empathy and humanity in an inhumane world, which is definately a true reflection of this Insane World in which we live!!!!!
There are just some people who are naturally gifted at acting and he is definitely one of them. This movie was flawless from start to finish . I am definitely going to make a pass on thye book someday.
i just rented this movie and realized two things: 1.) no where did i see how the world ended.... it just wasnt there, like, it never said why earth was dead. 2.) i wanted to slit my wirsts after it was over good movie, horrible side effects lol
I have to agree. It was a damn good movie, but too dark & depressing to see again and again. Besides, I'm still left wondering if Guy Pierce and his family were good guys or bad guys.
Well, he was far from a perfect father. You may be right but I guess it depends on one's point of view. On one hand he did everything he could to protect his son, on the other he was at times overly strict, plus was cold to others that he encountered. There are lots of family and father-son models in the real world and many of them far from perfect. The father's good intentions is for me what's most important.
@Myrthmor the kid was wretched? come on man thats a bit much. I thought he was pretty moving sometimes. The book was better but thats the case 90% of the time anyways...
I'm gonna tell this right now..IF VIGGO Mortensen doesn't play Vincent Van Gogh SOON i am going to pull my hair out..Have u seen him with short hair and a beard..this guy looks Just like him..Give me a thumbs up if u agree youtube pals =)) -Winter
this film had many contradictions and flaws and has a shit ending. But the performances were excellent in places. This also confirms my personal nightmare of what will happen when IT happens. miserable as fuck.
Such an underrated actor, this performance should of at least had a nomination at the oscars
He's had 1 nomination for the Oscars according to IMDb.
OhTyZer | Minecraft Videos! | Subscribe! It was for Eastern Promises though, doubt he'll ever win one because the academy always play it safe with and tend to give the awards to the A list (most of the time).
And won an oscar
One of the best movies I've ever seen.
This movie deserves to be a cult classic, it really deserves it.
+Metaless Araya 2009 ??? I thought i watched it like 2 years ago !! Cult movie indeed.
This movie is basically about my worst fear and it was so well made that while i was watching it for the first time i had forgotten i was seeing a movie.
This is probably the most realistic post apocalypse movie i have ever seen.
Yeah, and it seems more and more likely every year
Viggo was amazing in The Road. In fact, he's amazing in pretty much everything he does.
Probably my favourite actor.
To be human in all circumstances; to carry the fire, to take the terrible risk of trusting another human being. A heartbreakingly beautiful film: Mortensen, Theron, Duval, the boy they are all amazing.
movie is amazing, book is just haunting on all levels.

Genie Meadows Well, easier to cut of the limbs and eat it right away instead of keeping a whole body frozen so it wont get rotten. :P
Alexander I Exactly!!! come on Genie use your imagination.
Rodrigo Alonzo oo no thanks I will pass on that.
Alex Seastone yes its not the kind of film that you can recomend
I cried so much at the end. This man and the kid went along to well with this movie. The acting was phenomenal
He should have at least 4 Oscars. Viggo is nothing short of brilliant
I don't even know how to find the words to express how sad this movie was. It was also fantastic and Vigo Mortensen's acting was a definite 10/10.
If you were moved by the book or the movie, you should read the article "Carry the fire" by Brett McKay on the website art of manliness. He puts the book's and movie's message in perspective with what it means to be a father. Tragically beautifull.

I will give this movie as a present to my brother-in-law. It's about being a father.

One does not simply walk down a road in a post apocalypic world
(SPOILER ALERT)
I shed man tears.
Not when his wife gives up and walks away to her death.
Not when the father coughs blood and you realize he has cancer and is going to die.
Not when he dies.
But when that kind family adopts the boy, and that they had a real live dog.
First time I ever welled up to a movie. Ever.
they just adopts the boy to eat him
Andrew kruck
LOL trolling much? ;P
+Andrew kruck It's true read the book.
This is an immense, unforgettable, unsurpassable filmatic accomplishment. It shattered me.
amazing!! Such a good actor
Is it just me, or does it sound like they're talking into a fan?
oh this film looks great!! i am now going to get the book and read it before i see the film so i dnt have any insight into the story!! looks like a very emotional story!! viggo is a brilliant actor!! and very sweet!
Stellar performance Viggo.
Just now watched and it got my heart❤❤❤

This movie was beautifully shot...
This movie was so moving, Truly one you MUST see.

Playing Fallout 3 means so much more now! lol. Can't play that game without thinking of this movie and it gets me into it so much more...
Also great movie! Loved it
Viggo should get an Oscar for this. Incredible.

why did they put "10 years from now", when the disaster is not supposed to be specified?
2020 lol
Have you actually read the book?
Excellent book and excellent Movie. Bravo.
want to watch this...aware that kodi's starring as well...he acted brilliantly in 'rumulus, my father' but i hope its not another 2012 or those kind of movies...i think they've exhausted our screens
LOTR is a movie to see again and again, this movie is a one time watch movie.
Do you mean that it’s a difficult watch in terms of being depressing or in terms of being not great?
@CollectiveUniversity
i guess you know ''the proposition'' (2005)?
Oh goodness. Viggo's acting was really good in the movie. It made me tear up a few times.
Viggo should work as peacemaker. He's such a smart and wise man.I love his way of speaking.very calming.
Your absolutely right, I saw the trailer AFTER I saw the movie, and the trailer is misleading, the movie is much better than the trailer makes it out to be.
@izzythedude if the movie was so shocking you should read the Book NOW!!
i truly recomend to you to read the book
saw it tonight- amazing film
0:07 the police walking into a burning city is film footage from the L.A. riots and it was also used in the 2004 remake of Dawn of the dead in the opening credits showing the society falling apart

good movie, horrible side effects lol
Haha lol
"one of these movies people will see over and over again."
Ummm. No thanks. Sitting through that once is enough...
I have to agree. It was a damn good movie, but too dark & depressing to see again and again. Besides, I'm still left wondering if Guy Pierce and his family were good guys or bad guys.
Cherrybomb510 I agree. I'm not even used to seeing Guy Pierce playing a good guy so the ending is really ambiguous :/
Cherrybomb510 good guys.
Cherrybomb510 they took over the role of parents.
I had trouble breathing whilst watching this film. An exceptionally well-performed piece of Art. With a capital 'a'.
for the first time, they make a movie that honors a book.
just like No Country For Old Men
Can't remember this explosion 6:05 :D WTF
Do hope (against hope) that man would wakeup and change his path. i think before that awakening the height of our ambitions will kill us all.
just go see it!
@ContinuousContinuing wheres that chicken
have u seen the moon ???
thank you

@ilovepanslabyrinth He danish
amazing film
looks good
The real theme in this movie is in the background, the way the earth is dying....
SunsetSideVet ...read the book. That is not the theme at all. If you have never been a parent, you'll never understand.
@Dead8Bird Every one keeps telling me that! I have been looking for a good read:)
Vigo is a bit of a legend.
Great movie, better book! Viggo and Cormac are both brilliant.
@aragornsbride This has pretty much convinced me to watch it :D !
Because he is handsome.
what do y'all think happened that caused the apocalypse? i think it was a meteor.

I barely believe that he's 51, He looks in his late 30s.
LMAO ;-))))))))))))))))))
This movie is extremely depressing.

Just finished this book..........still processing just how much I hated it. Sorry to all you bleeding heart book of the month fans.
this film had many contradictions and flaws and has a shit ending.
But the performances were excellent in places.
This also confirms my personal nightmare of what will happen when IT happens.
miserable as fuck.
