This is so interesting... I am in the 5th year in Romania, and this is very useful to me. Tomorrow I have a lab exam at gastroenterology, and I must say... NO ONE explained this better than what I've seen in this video... and teachers are paid to do that (not paid enough). Thank you so much.
Sir i've been watching ur videos since 2012 they are rlly helpful, i got high grades thanks to you )!I'm a med student on my 4th year now and with every new course i have to check one of your work before i even open a book ;) thanks for putting the effort and god bless you
Thank you for a very detailed and insightful look into physiology and pathology of peptic ulcers . Ive been very interested & studying gastroenterology along with histology and this puts it in perspective for those who want to look deeper into the mechanistic pathology ❤🌅❤
Thank you for the knowledge you hav provided me with...i hav to give a seminar on dis topic tomorrow in my class, it's very helpful. Thank You for the efforts. Looks like I don't need to do anymore research. I have everything I need. Even my reference book doesn't tell me this much. Thank You Again.
Great explanation,. Though I think gastric ulcer and duodenal ulcer pathophysiology should be explained together + duodenal ulcer is more common, so I would appreciate more details about that too, since it's important. Thanks anyway for this! :)
Excellent lecture. Very helpful. I realize though that you did not say any thing about how stress and sympathetic stimulation causes stomach ulcers. Do you have any video on that deal with it ? If so please let me know .
im 4th year med student, study in romania, the teachers are useless. what i learned from you in 29 min is much more than what i've learned through the whole digestive stagiu
Hi, today I had an exam and the question was “how does alcohol affect the mucosal layer for gastric ulcer making?” So I talked about the surfactant. My teacher said that there’s no evidence of that on the GI track, just on the lungs. So I wanted to know what was the biography of that statement.
Hi, great video - you really simplify and present it in a clear way. I have 2 questions: 1. From what I read H pylori decreases acid secretion, as opposed to increase in acid secretion as you mention. 2) I did not find a recent article supporting the surfctate layer, can you please send a few studies about this? Thx!!
Hello Andrew Wolf: Thanks for this fascinating video. I remember from my lecture days in nursing school. One question: do you have any information on gastritis relating to diabetes? Also, can you discuss the chemistry related. Thanks again.
Hi thanks a lot for the educative information. it really prepares me for my exams. Would you please inform me more about the pathogenesis of the disease. is it just through the same way as the peptic ulcer disease
Mr. Wolf, isn't the point of having enteric coated Aspirin to prevent digestion of the aspirin in the stomach, but rather in the small intestine? I saw you mentioned that as one of the etiologies of PUD. Wouldn't uncoated tablets cause more harm?
hey, ive read in my book that one cause of PUD is the back diffusion of HCl? Can you elaborate on this more please. I don't understand where HCl diffuses back and what the book means by back diffusion. thanks.
gud video ! Is it that the most potent stimulus for H+ secretion is when the food reaches the antrum (G cells)....but the parietal cells are mostly in the body ? so how does it help?
Ive been on Prilosec and Paxil for 21 yrs and recently have tapered down on both and my duodenum/small intestine aches, maybe ulcer so I may have to go back on the normal dose, seeing as Ive been taking Prilosec for 2 decades Im worried about Gastrin levels and stomach cancer risk from taking PPI's long term and yet when I reduce slightly my proton pumps awaken and my duodenum doesnt like it one bit, I was thinking about taking DGL, cabbage juice, yoghurt etc whilst Im coming off Prilosec to protect the stomach/duodnum lining, are there any other things |I can do to help the stomach/duodenum to adjust to stopping PPI's, I thought maybe start taking Gaviscon which coats the lining? Thankyou.
Thank you! Your videos are really helpful! So do NSAIDS increase the risk of an upper GI bleed as they can cause peptic ulcers, or is there another way that they can cause it?
doc hi nice information i have a question if activation of parasympathic nerves system lead to release more of ach and we know the parasympathic are activate under relax time sleeping time but how stress can give ulcer too
sorry dr.andrew ... i'll answer this for you ... stress will cause significant reduction in the brunner's gland which also produce mucus-rich with bicaronate .. it's in the duodenum so in case of stress it's always duodenal ulcer

Omeprazole (Proton pump inhibitor)-decreases the stomach's production of acid, and two antibiotics
