@@chrisplumridge5808 Definitely worth a go mate 😀👍 I kinda see them as the semi hollow for the guy who doesn't get on with Gibson style guitars. It's got the Fender neck feel, scale length and the body is way more comfortable than a 335 imo

Here's hoping mate! 😀🤞 I do quite fancy a Coronado, didn't really appeal to me when the re-issues came out in 2013, I was blinded by the Starcasters, but I've since really got into Filtertrons 😎👍
OK ok Steve hear me out... Affinity Starcaster with proper headstock and WIDE RANGE HUMBUCKERS. So to differentiate with the CV just have 1 volume and 1 tone and keep the pasty maple neck. In Burgundy mist! That's the coolest colour ever
Sounds Awesome to me mate! I'd have one in second! 😎👌 I definitely prefer the Wide Range humbuckers, both for the look and sound (If you get good ones - I've got WRHB's from "The Creamery" in mine 👌). But I've got that "base covered" these days, so I don't mind the regular sized humbucker routs, so I can experiment with different pickups. But that's a pretty unique case - I'm all for the WRHB's in the (NEW) affinities 😁👍

Disappointed to see these guitars discontinued. I definitely agree with you re. the Delonge models - signatures are fine but they're just variants of the real thing. I've been on a gear buying spree recently and now it looks like I'll have to factor in a Starcaster before I'm too late...
Interesting theory Steve, thats the 1st thing that came to my mind about Squier stopping the production of the Starcasters so that Fender can introduce a Starcaster line with inflated pricing, wouldn't that be a surprise to us all 🤣. Ide like to see the Squier strat with the reverse headstock come back, Ide love to add one to my collection.
I reckon the MIC Fender Tom Delonge Starcasters have proved they can easily sell MIC Fenders for £1k now. Can they still sell them at that price without a sig name? Will be interesting to see if they give it a go 🤔 I'd probably still be one of the first people lining up to buy one too 😂🙈

Hi Steve, the good news is, if the majority of the Starcaster range has been discontinued then it could boost their value on the used market and your collection of them could be worth a bit more. Not that I suppose you'd want to part with any of them, but it's nice to know they could be a bit more valuable.
Good point mate! That's what happened with the original Starcasters when the were discontinued the first time round in 1982. Those go for around £4000 these days 🤯 Even the Fender MIC modern player Starcasters, I bought mine new for £611 in 2013, they go for around £900 used these days. Although I have seen a couple of great deals recently on them for under £800. But lik eyou say I'd never part with mine 😁👌
The Les Paul I have was only manufactured for a year back in 2012 then discontinued. They very rarely come up for sale so you'd think that would up the used price a bit but I got it for the same price as a regular Les Paul Studio usually goes for on the used market. Perhaps that means they were discontinued because nobody wanted one apart from me.
@@Reeldin58 That's ideal! The bonus of loving something no-one else wants 😀👍 What model is it? Maybe it's the one LP I could get on with 😜 What's so special about that particular 2012 model might I ask?
Hi Steve, it's a Les Paul Studio 70s Tribute. It looks like a regular "No Frills" LP studio with no binding on the body or headstock. It has mini humbuckers with a lower output than a regular humbucker so you can boost the gain a bit and get plenty of sustain without it becoming overly dirty. (creamy tones ...more tone words!) It really sings with clean tones too. To my ears the sound it of sits somewhere between Les Paul and a Tele. I saw it reviewed here on YT and fell in love. Here's a link to the review where I first saw it. It's the actual guitar that I own now. For me this one's a keeper! ruclips.net/video/9biexUkFbEA/видео.html
I always thought that the Gibson style hardware did not fit the vibe of the Starcaster. They should have designed with the Hipshot baby grand bride. Perhaps they still can, if they com up with a new line of Starcasters.
I wasn't even aware of that bridge - thanks for sharing mate - looks very cool! I like to put the Duesenberg Les trem ii on my Starcasters. I can't resist a wee wammy 😜 The Original 70's Starcasters had a different bridge, almost looked like a strat hard tail bridge. I think the TOM and stop bar is a design improvement over the originals. But that Baby Grand Hipshot is very cool 😎👍 Cheers again 😀🙏
dang, that's a shame. Really like my gold contemporary one, especially because of the super big headstock with the matching colour accent. But guess the model is just too niche... also if I could wish for a model to make a comeback in the Squier line-up, probably the Katana
I hear ya mate! I don't think the Katana has ever had a reissue. I think that would blow up in a hello kitty ironic kinda way. I'd probably have one too 😂🙈 There's a gold contemporary one on eBay right now sitting at £260. I'm very tempted 😬
@stevecassidyguitar a quick google search tell me that Fender Japan released a signature bass Katana in '21, so they do have at least some modern CNC plans lying around 🤞🤞
I really don't like Starcasters (except the name) but I assumed, with the recent pink signature model, they weren't going anywhere soon. Sad for you though, sir. Admiring your optimism.
I have a feeling the Starcaster is replaced by the classic Fender headstock. The biggest non-buying point I've heard about is that headstock. If sales of the new version work (and I think they will) for Fender, yours will become collector's items. Lock 'em away tight. It's now a "legacy" purchase!

It's definitely a Marmite one 😂👍 - I'm in the love it camp 😍 Looks cool and handy in a marooned island situation 😜 I'm curios though - do the new Affinities with the different headstocks or Tom Delonge ones appeal to you more? Just wondering if Fender's tactics are working 🤔
Ha 😂 good point 👍 That's my new end card I'm trying out for the end of this vids. I've only ever gigged a Starcaster a couple of times, but I just finally got an appropriate gig bag for them from Santa 🎅👍 It's hard to find a gig bag to fit that shape, that offers any real protection, but I've got one now - so looking forward to trying them out at gigs next year. But I couldn't do a whole gig with a Starcaster, most of the set is reliant on the inbetween strat sounds
@stevecassidyguitar Gotta say, you've got me itching for another. I love the one I have, though the pickups aren't for everything. Wouldn't mind a more mellow sounding StarCaster. And I agree about the headstock. To the point where I dislike it if it doesn't have a colour-matched swooped line on the bottom of the headstock.
Fender Musical Instruments Released with the Jack Antonoff Signature a Fender-Jazzmaster/Gretsch-Corvette mashup. Maybe the next Starcaster will have Gretsch knobs or a Bigsby B7 or P90s in the Neck? Or there might be a Strat with a Filtertron in the Bridge?
What do you think of the New affinity deluxe Starcasters, and the Tom Delonge ones, that don't have the big Starcaster headstock? I'm just curious if Fenders tactic to change it, is working for players who don't like the original shape 🤔
I want to see more starcasters. I am the only one who likes the headstock…not really Bilt guitars use a variation of the star caster headstock. They also make a variation of the starcaster. I would buy a squier starcaster bass as soon as it’s out.
Always wanted one but dont warrent one as dont play electric as much as acoustic. Also, having a thinkine telecaster 72, wasnt sure if it was a bit too samey!! But love rhe look of them
Funny you should mention... I find myself playing the White affinity more than any other guitar atm, (at home) but I play it mostly unplugged. It's so light to just pick up and it's quite loud acoustically and resonant too. I also got a thinline Tele in 2011 to cure my Starcaster GAS. I still have it, but it's not quite the same, with thinlines being chambered rather than semi hollow. I do love both though 😀👍
Nout wrong with that mate 😎👍 I'd highly recommend giving one a go if you've never tried one. Definitely a unique design, and sits in the middle of a 335, Jazzmaster, Thinline Tele kinda thing 🤷♂️
Good question mate Re gigging the Starcasters, I do not. But that's about to change (got a vid coming up about that, but i'll tell ya anyway...) I never gigged the Starcasters before, because I didn't have an appropriate Gig Bag for them - "Good" ones that offer actual protection and fit well are hard to find. But I just got the Gator Pro Go 335 Gig bag from Yoshi for Xmas (Thanks Yoshi!!) So I'm hoping to start gigging them next year! 😀👍 Couldn't do an an entire gig with them though, I need the inbetween strat sounds for too much of the set. Would need to take both. Which I plan on doing 😁👍
When you got your last one cheap-ish, you said you had an inkling they might be discontinued.. spooky!! (any inklings on x-lotto numbers Steve!?! I did see a cpl in the shops around the same time as the Paranormal Jazzmaster Teles (2-3yrs back?).. but didn't have a strum. If they brought one in with p90s or proper Wide Range pickups.. ld be interested.
Ha! I wish I had the powers of Mystic Meg 😂👍 The Affinities are great - But mine does need work - The Nut is garbage, pickups not great, but I love the neck and bought it with the intention of upgrading it 😁👍 What's left of the classic vibes have "WRHB's" and in the Contemporary Active SC (I've been modding) I put a HB sized P90 in the neck - sounds killer! 😀👌
Gotta say I'm quite taken with the Starcaster, I even like the F holes and I don't normally like that style of guitar, didn't they do one without the holes? I might have to get one while I still can
Yes indeed mate! The Squier "Contemporary Active Series" Starcasters are still semi-hollow, but don't have the F holes. My Green one in this video is one of them, But I think they look a bit weird and Fat without the F holes, So I added an F hole decal, which arguably looks worse 😂🙈
Without even trying I got a Contemporary Starcaster for $232. on the Friday of Blackness. Now, if I can just pull about a 1/2lb out of it somehow, I'll have happy knees & back....
Nice one - That's a total bargain! 😀👍 What colour did you get? 😀 Shame you got a heavy one, My 2 Squires are quite light, but The Fender is a bit of a back breaker, I got it before I cared about Guitar weight. I could probably never gig the Fender now 😢
You should track down and buy a 1980s Ibanez Roadstar II guitar and fix that up. Maybe a "Poor" or non working one and that way you get a Strat shaped guitar with z Starcaster head shape!😉👍✨
Not for me. I would like Fender to make a guitar that has the best of the Strat and the best of the Tele. For me that would be a Strat neck and body with Tele pickups and fixed bridge. It would be called something like "STerralet".
I can't believe that doesn't exist! Does it? I was wracking my brain there, trying to imagine if one has ever come out 🤔 The new Squier "Paranormal Nashville custom" is very close, you'd have to get a new pickguard, and remove the middle pickup, but I'm not sure if the body has all the strat curves and contours, as It's double bound. Also just found a limited edition Fender "WhiteGuard" Ltd edition - that fits the bill, but It's no longer available, probably costs a fortune, and is quite rare. Seems like It could be a good partcaster project though 😀👍
@stevecassidyguitar The Paranormal Nashville custom is close to my specs, but it doesn't have a gut cut and has a Laurel and Hardy fretboard. I wonder if a Fender Strat neck would fit? Probably not due to the Imperial vs Metric war.
@@shamrockshamus You can usually put a streat neck on a Tele, It's the round neck heel against the square heel pocket. Sometimes leaves a visible gap, but depends on the pickguard and if you have the 22nd fret overhang 👍
the 2010 fender telecaster blacktop i bought ,turns out it DIDNT HAVE AN EARTHWIRE ,OR EVEN A DRILLED HOLE FOR IT, also junk switch ..mex fender ....basically all there except the details are NOT... i got dwayne to drill and rewire it..its a nice guitar with pearly gates and an EARTHWIRE

The Squier affinity deluxe Starcaster and Tom Delonge models do have different headstocks... But they're still called Starcasters 😂 I don't think they'd change the name 😬
It could happen! 😬 Although I think the Delonge Starcasters sold very well, so who knows. 🤷♂️ But 6 years is also about the time frame that Fender Revamp line ups etc. Player - Player ii, Ultra - Ultra ii, Etc... If nothing gets announced in 2025 then it's time to get worried 😬
@stevecassidyguitar I was just kidding. There will always be a market for such a well known design. I was discretely directing your attention to BILT guitars. Have you heard of the brand?
Bummer, I quite fancy a Conrondo too. I wasn't too bothered about them when they got reissued in 2013 along with Starcasters - I was blinded by the Starcasters. But these days, I'm really into Tron pickups. A coronado would be very cool to check out 😎👍
Yup - that's one of the reasons they got discontinued the first time round, they only made them from 76 to 82. They were supposed to be a competitor to the 335, but seemed to just be a bit too weird for most people and they didn't sell well. They got re-issued 31 years later in 2013, after some prominent artists had been using the old ones, they slowly gained a bit of a cult following.
Yeah mate - they're definitely Marmite Guitars. Luckily for the people like yourself that don't like themem, there's loads of semi hollow alternatives available that might be more to your taste from Epiphone, Gibson, Ibanez, Hagstrom, Reverend, D'Angelico, and dozens more 😎👍

I'm curios though - do the new Affinities with the different headstocks or Tom Delonge ones appeal to you more?
Just wondering if Fender's tactics are working 🤔
Ha ha same for me
@@thenovicenoisemaker Ya might have to try one next year for fun mate - Ya never know - It might end up being "The one!" 😜
@ 🤣
Yup, that headstock takes fugly to a new level
Episode all about Starcasters ends with a video clip of you playing a Strat.
/slow headshake as I walk away
Ha 😂 good point 👍
That's my new end card I'm trying out for the end of this vids.
I've only ever gigged a Starcaster a couple of times, but I just finally got an appropriate gig bag for them from Santa 🎅👍
It's hard to find a gig bag to fit that shape, that offers any real protection, but I've got one now - so looking forward to trying them out at gigs next year.
@@oldmanzen6682 Oh yeah! Gotta have that Swoop! 😎👌
Wow! I missed that Antonoff sig - very cool model indeed! 😎👌
100% for Trons and Trems on Starcasters 😁👍
If they stuck a normal headstock on it ,I would of bought one.
You're not the only one mate - I love the original headstock design too 😃👍
The Starcaster basses are mega rare these days - very cool indeed tho 😎👌
@stevecassidyguitar thanks for the reply. The affinity have normal Humbucker? Are they nice?
Never tried one 🤔 maybe just not my thing. Can’t have them all you know.
Nout wrong with that mate 😎👍 I'd highly recommend giving one a go if you've never tried one. Definitely a unique design, and sits in the middle of a 335, Jazzmaster, Thinline Tele kinda thing 🤷♂️
Them gigs need discontinuing brother x
Gigs? I should stop gigging?
Great video. Do you gig with your Starcasters?......and if you HAD to choose only guitar would it be your modded Jet or a Starcaster?🤔👍
Couldn't do an an entire gig with them though, I need the inbetween strat sounds for too much of the set.
Ha! I wish I had the powers of Mystic Meg 😂👍
The Affinities are great - But mine does need work - The Nut is garbage, pickups not great, but I love the neck and bought it with the intention of upgrading it 😁👍
What's left of the classic vibes have "WRHB's" and in the Contemporary Active SC (I've been modding) I put a HB sized P90 in the neck - sounds killer!
As a lefty, I have no GAS for mediocre 'merican fiddles. Just ordered a Little Crow semi.
Was not aware of Little Crow - Juts had a look - very cool. Did you get the Corvinho? I like the look of the ones with the Bigsby's 😎👌
Oh well...
I dont need anymore electric guitars. 😅❤❤
Are you absolutely sure? 👹😜
But nah, I know what you mean - I could actually do with shifting several 😂👍
Don't Fret (sorry for the pun ... not ;-) I expect there will be new Starctaster models from both Fender and Squier next year.
Ha! Cheers mate - that's what I'm hoping for 😁🤞
But my wallet is against me 😂🙈
Without even trying I got a Contemporary Starcaster for $232. on the Friday of Blackness. Now, if I can just pull about a 1/2lb out of it somehow, I'll have happy knees & back....
Nice one - That's a total bargain! 😀👍 What colour did you get? 😀
Shame you got a heavy one, My 2 Squires are quite light, but The Fender is a bit of a back breaker, I got it before I cared about Guitar weight. I could probably never gig the Fender now 😢
You should track down and buy a 1980s Ibanez Roadstar II guitar and fix that up. Maybe a "Poor" or non working one and that way you get a Strat shaped guitar with z Starcaster head shape!😉👍✨
Good shout! Always fancied a roadstar or a blazer 😎👌
@stevecassidyguitar
I am working on one now and I always thought that it is something you would like.
Not for me. I would like Fender to make a guitar that has the best of the Strat and the best of the Tele. For me that would be a Strat neck and body with Tele pickups and fixed bridge. It would be called something like "STerralet".
I can't believe that doesn't exist! Does it? I was wracking my brain there, trying to imagine if one has ever come out 🤔
The new Squier "Paranormal Nashville custom" is very close, you'd have to get a new pickguard, and remove the middle pickup, but I'm not sure if the body has all the strat curves and contours, as It's double bound.
Daily guitar draw is giving away the Tom Delonge model
I feel sorry for whoever "wins" that one 😜
the 2010 fender telecaster blacktop i bought ,turns out it DIDNT HAVE AN EARTHWIRE ,OR EVEN A DRILLED HOLE FOR IT, also junk switch ..mex fender ....basically all there except the details are NOT... i got dwayne to drill and rewire it..its a nice guitar with pearly gates and an EARTHWIRE
Sounds like you did some very worthwhile mods to that one 😂👍
@stevecassidyguitar was earthed by wax n coverplates...pearlygates are like y nana warm n fluffy til you push em then they get sharp and mean
i no longer get notifications on anything..all the best❤
👍🏻👍🏻
Cheers mate! 😀🙏
If it aint got the shoe shaped headstock its a bastardised starcaster.
100% Agreed mate! 😂👍
OH NOooo! ..... (Panicked Aussie Google Search) .... That's a very tough choice mate 😬 If you've got any viable Organs left to sell, just get both 😜👍
I got a Strat-copy Starcaster (in name only) -- can I join your club?
Of course you can mate! 😂👍
The Drum kits and pedals are also viable for Starcaster club entry 😎👍
@stevecassidyguitar Awesome! Though when that Steve Cassidy Signature Starcaster with Jazzmaster vibrato in purple is released, I'll definitely get one!
@@Markleford Ha! Cheers mate! Pretty tidy for a fictional guitar I think 😂👍
I will not stand for this heavily Steve-phobic decision from Fender. Bring back the Affinity Starcaster!
So glad to have your support! 💪😂
How dare they!! 🧐
I’d like to see a lefty option…selfish I know!
Great point! Has there ever been a Lefty Starcaster!? 😯
Very selfish just learn right handed FLANDERS!
@stevecassidyguitar not to my knowledge Steve.
@@steviemac8075 I have 23 lefty guitars, and I’m not starting to learn r/h now at my age lol
@@markjones759 Shocking! Hope they get that sorted too mate! 💪🧐
Change the name and the headstock please. Sorry Steve.
The Squier affinity deluxe Starcaster and Tom Delonge models do have different headstocks... But they're still called Starcasters 😂 I don't think they'd change the name 😬
@stevecassidyguitar Ha ha. I'm of an age where Starcaster sounds like a cheap Star Wars rip off character.
@@gedellis701 The original Starcaster pre dates Star Wars by one year, but I wouldn't rule out Star Trek as a possible inspiration😂👍
@stevecassidyguitar I'll get my coat.🤐
@@gedellis701 😂👍 Classic Fast Show - Love it 👌
All the signs are pointing at the inevitable truth that Fender will stop making Starcasters for good! Time to save money for a BILT!!!
It could happen! 😬
Although I think the Delonge Starcasters sold very well, so who knows.
Imagine us coronado fans who have been starving since 2017
Bummer, I quite fancy a Conrondo too. I wasn't too bothered about them when they got reissued in 2013 along with Starcasters - I was blinded by the Starcasters. But these days, I'm really into Tron pickups. A coronado would be very cool to check out 😎👍
I can imagine they didn’t sell well as they are dog ugly to look at 🤔😂
Yup - that's one of the reasons they got discontinued the first time round, they only made them from 76 to 82. They were supposed to be a competitor to the 335, but seemed to just be a bit too weird for most people and they didn't sell well.
They got re-issued 31 years later in 2013, after some prominent artists had been using the old ones, they slowly gained a bit of a cult following.
Di$continued you $ay?
Ha! Totally 🤑👍
Some people may like them. For me they are ugly anyway.
Yeah mate - they're definitely Marmite Guitars.
Luckily for the people like yourself that don't like themem, there's loads of semi hollow alternatives available that might be more to your taste from Epiphone, Gibson, Ibanez, Hagstrom, Reverend, D'Angelico, and dozens more 😎👍
Talking of upgrades and mods, I've a suggestion for a project for you in 2025, lad....
www.guitarkit.shop/collections/guitar-kit/products/semi-hollow-body-diy-electric-guitar-kit-pjs-329
That looks decent! But I fear glued in/set necks 😬
I barely get the time to change strings these days too 😂
Would love to see you give it a go though mate 😀👍
Hoipe you and yours are enjoying the festive hols too mate 🎄🙏
@stevecassidyguitar I may or may not already have a project kit coming from that very company in the new year.....😜
And you, mucker. Hope Santy Claws was good to you!
