Hi! Just want to pop in and share some information regarding pollinators and bees! Honeybees are actually a pretty aggressive pollinator and if you aren't interested in beekeeping for honey, I'd suggest doing a little research about the pollinators in your area. Kaci, since you're keeping bees for honey this is more for anyone perusing the comment section. I also feel like because of your location, building out habitat for native pollinators and birds may be absolutely imperative to the health of your immediate ecosystem. I'm not trying to criticize you for doing your part and I actually want to congratulate you for doing what you can! However, since you are someone who owns land that you are able to tend to; I suggest building out more of a habitat of native plants to your area to sustain all pollinator species as well as native birds. Arkansas has some incredible native plants like milkweed (butterflies! yay!) and wild petunias as well as carolina rose and those plants will introduce things that will rebalance ecosystems. Please research ways to rebalance the ecosystem in a productive long term way because planting for honeybees is only the beginning. :)
Yes, thank you! I love that Kaci is so passionate about caring for her bees, and I’m happy that she’s sharing this information with us. But our native bees and other pollinators also need our support! There are many great native plants we can use in our gardens to support the birds and pollinators. Goldenrod, which she mentioned, is a good one. Of course, native plants vary by region so I encourage those who are interested to look into which species grow naturally in their area.
Thank you for the info. Most of the flowers we plant support butterflies and hummingbirds as well! We enjoy seeing all the beautiful pollinators. However the bees seem to be taking a very hard hit.
I think the general thought is that we can all do our part to support pollinators in our own areas. Kaci- I appreciate that you keep bees and remind us about our personal landscapes to help support a strong ecosystem.
Give us ALL the bee talk! I appreciate your familys’ hard work and investment. Also happy to see we already have many of the flowers/ herbs you mentioned as helping the little guys. That pullover! ❤️✨
I do not have the privilege of having a bee hive and caring for them. I truly enjoyed hearing your explanation because it transported me from my recliner to your farm. I felt as if I was there with you. Keep sharing your farm life with us. It is very enjoyable.
Thoroughly enjoyed the bee update. My Daddy was a beekeeper and I worked for the NC state Apiculturist. I have considered getting a couple of hives but at 70, my knitting and my garden is enough.
Thank you for advocating for our bees! They are so incredibly important and we need to be aware of the impact of pesticides and how it correlates to the loss of our hives. Love your podcast and new sweater!!
I loved hearing about the bees and I know that clover honey must be amazing! My husband is the green thumb in our family and is very into native plants to help the bees, birds, and butterflies. We’re eagerly awaiting everything to fully bloom here in Maryland. I loved seeing the bees around our coneflowers last year.
Thank you Kaci for all the sweet insights into your projects and telling us about your bees. I will definitely plant some bee friendly plants this year! ❤
I loved your bee segment. Love bees and grow things they love; I have lots of catmint. Your combo spin is beautiful, and I am excited to see it transformed into a sweater, I like wearing my handknit socks with my "Duck feet" shoes. My perfect spring outfit is a comfy dress with anklets and a sweater. Spring isn't quite as advanced as where you are but seeing yours tells me it is right around the corner. Love how you let your dandelions grow, for the bees, I am sure.
I loved hearing about your bees. I love that you mentioned the seed packets that we could plant and do our part. Loved the cardigan you are wearing, so colorful. Seems like you could wear it with any color.
We have a small acreage in SD and are also surround by fields. Our garden did so poorly last year and we are pretty sure it had to be from the crop duster plane that sprayed the neighbors field. It's so bad for the bees, our health and the few animals we have. I don't know what the answer is but I think we, as a nation need to take a few steps back and think about what has happened to our health as a nation.🐝
Our garden has been a mess the last few years unfortunately. We hoped bringing bees in would help but I think we had a drought and heat this past year that caused a lot of issues. Hoping for a better harvest this year
You’re such a warm person with such an intuitive intelligence about colour and shapes, Kaci. I could listen to you talking about knitting, spinning, gardening, beekeeping and sewing all day. Thanks for sharing with us!☺️🥰
I loved seeing more about your bees! I would love to see some honey cultivating when it’s time too. I love to wear my Duckfeet Mols with my hand knit socks. ❤️
Not bored about the bees AT ALL! Super interesting to learn more about how we can support them (and other wildlife) by not using any pesticides and by planting a large variety of flowering plants. We participate in "No-Mow May," where we don't cut our lawn until early June to get the bees a head start. Last year I figured out that I need to weed-whack the higher-growing grasses to keep the yard looking decent while still allowing the low-flowering plants to feed the bees.
Love your opinions on bees and harmful things floating around in the air. I’ve tried twice to keep bees but they prefer the cottonwoods behind my house to their hives. Keep being a champion for the bees ❤
So enjoyed hearing about the bees!! I’ve planted some flowers for them and left the clover and dandelions growing! Congrats on how well you’re doing on your goals so far this year. 🙌🏻🙌🏻
Kaci, I enjoyed the bee talk so much. Please continue to share more about beekeeping as it helps us viewers build a more rounded view of you. Thank you for spending so much of your time making these podcasts for us.
Thank you Kaci busy 🐝 for another colorful, lively episode 🖤💛🖤 Seems like every time I’m watching an American podcast these days, I come across another Noro Madara in color Sake cardigan! I reckon this rainbow tweed must be perfectly matching lots of outfits. I couldn’t ignore your hesitation pronouncing the French city name Montpellier: the T and R are mute; it’s pronounced [monpelié]. Cheers from Bordeaux 🇫🇷 Marie.
I love that you are sharing about your bees and the threats to bees. Maybe you could weave this into your work with a KAL prize being some of your honey someday. I would love that! I might give myself tendinitis trying to win that! I didn’t have the yarn to join your Pohjola KAL, sadly, but I am watching for the next KAL. Love your content/creations!
I asked about purchasing her honey but I guess it got lost in all the comments long ago. That would be a nice idea HeidiSpear. Bees are becoming endangered tho.
I’m so sorry I missed it! We don’t sell our honey at the moment. We’ve been giving it away a bit to our friends and family and using the rest ourselves. We eat a lot! Lol
@@YoungfolkKnits 🌴☀️what devastating news!!!!!!!! 🤭 thanks for replying. I guess I’ll check out your Ravelry wish list…I just wanna bless you & show my appreciation…this is one of my top 3 channels in knitting I apprciate you so so much 💐💗💐 I hope all who matter to you are well…again thanks for all the effort you put into your podcasts…they are a part of my life since the beginning of this channel. Kaci, thanks for shining a light on the impact of pesticides on not just honeybees but also our native pollinators, and some tips for planting to support pollination ❤ I’m also a hobby beekeeper though up north in Michigan so I’m sure your girls are way ahead of us. Wishing you a happy bee (and warm weather knitting) season ahead! 🐝
This was a great episode, Kaci. The knits were beautiful. I have always wanted to knit a cardigan this sound's like one I could accomplish. I appreciate all the information that you give on your projects and if that project is good for a certain skill level. Loved all the bee information and seeing your hives. Take care
Kaci, I love the colour of the dress you're knitting! It's going to look beautiful on you with one of your lovely shawls on a cooler summer evening 🤩😍🥰
What you mentioned at the end about not being driven to buy everything that pops on the knitting channels REALLY made me feel good and boosted my resolution to use up what I already have. Bee talk was great. Love your karma! Thanks
I’m a beekeeper and knitter, too! Last year was my first year. I lost both hives over the winter. However, I learned a lot and as bad as I felt I’m going to try again this year. Loved hearing about your passion for the bees and your video of them.
The sound of freedom (military noises) is a thing here on the NC coast. Cherry Point gives us jets and helicopters, and we get the gunfire sounds from Camp Lejeune. Some of the heavy firing shakes my house.
Thank you so much for your previous advice about holding the purl yarn in the right hand for the three colour parts of the Pohjola. It made everything so much faster and it looks exactly the same!
Gorgeous cardigan Kaci!! Love the chat about bees! Enjoyed the interlude outdoors. The long dress is going to be perfect for summer, and the colour is great for spring.
Another awesome vid! Thanks for advocating for our bees!! And all your knits are so beautiful and inspiring. I can hear you talk more about bees!! I love bees and how powerful they are for everything. I love your spinning and I’m going to try to spin for a travelers hoodie too! Love how your step by step cardigan came out ❤
I love hearing about the bees. I grew up with my dad raising bees, and yeah, he lost a lot of hives. :( I get so excited seeing bees in my gardens. :D They also have seed mixes designed for pollinators! Also love the cardigan, it looks so fun!
I grow catnip and catmint and the bees seems to love it a lot! I always feel bad in the fall when I have to cut them back before the snow comes. Love the bee update!

I just found your channel. (Beginner spinning) Hello neighbor! (East Texan here) It's so pleasant to hear a normal, southern draw. I am addicted to all of your videos. I did in fact take one of my existing garden beds and plant all wild flowers and herbs, in no particular order. Peace and Blessing to you and yours!
Hi, Kaci another great podcast thank you for sharing about the bees and some of the difficulties in being bee keeper, loved your sweater am anxious to get the pattern when it's released I have told my self that this year I am going to try and use my stash but I have found it difficult because I don't always have enough yarn to make a certain project. Your colorwork sweater is beautiful 😊
Loved the bee talk! I watch to hear you talk about what you care about so it’s great to hear about beekeeping! And obviously love the knitting content too ahaha
Thank you for the spot about the bees and beekeeping. I would love it if you shared a couple of minutes about your farm life every episode. I find that equally as interesting as your magnificent fine crafting. thank you for your time and efforts. It can't be easy for a young wife and mother with a career outside the home as well.
Loved catching up with you today Kaci! Now it sounds like I might have to start chatting with you about the Heirloom Quilt Cardigan to bring it back to the top of the knitting list. 😜
I loved hearing about your beekeeping! In my neighborhood in Portland, OR there are more yards every year that are full of wildflowers instead of grass, which I just love for both environmental and aesthetic reasons. Regarding the silk content of the Madara, I think it's just the colorful neps/tweed bits.
So glad to hear you’re planning to knit the Traveler Hoodie! I recently knit one out of FDF Recollect and I could not love it more. But I haven’t seen any podcasters knit it yet!
I had to check the date on this video due to the weather and flower shots. It’s still snowing here in Montana 😂😂 I love all the colors you choose for your projects. I have a very similar color palette ❤❤
Another interesting and lovely video, Kaci. We have fairly large garden areas, and most of my plantings are for birds, butterflies, and pollinators of all types. I'm adding more medicinal plants as well. I hope that your beehives do well this year, and that you get loads of delicious honey! 😊
Oh I can so relate…I live near an AFB in WA, we don’t constantly have the loud planes overhead, because they rotate around the whole Seattle area to mildly annoy everyone. 😂😂😂. But when they come, boy oh boy do they come for about 7-10 days. My dogs don’t notice, so that’s lucky!! ✈️
I loved seeing your bees and hearing about them. The cardigan is beautiful. What beautiful land you live on. I am wondering if you have ever been to Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge not far from Eureka Springs. If I ever get my legs back under me I plan to go see some amazing animals there. It's an amazing place I would recommend to your family.
Enjoyed your bee update! I love bees, hate wasps. Our townhouse complex has "bee flowers" everywhere and also vegetable and herb gardens as well as bee water bath. Still mostly see wasps 😡
You are not alone, I too have always had trouble deciphering my left from my right. When I was eight I was in a car accident and it snapped both bones in my right arm which left a pretty interesting scar. Ever since then I always looked for the scar to know which arm is right.
The Pohjola is coming along so beautifully!! I've never knit a colourwork sweater before but I am really missing out! I think I need to get over my fear of colourwork and give it a try.
No no, we ARE interested-or should be, everyone needs to be aware how important bees are to our very survival!! 🐝 You might enjoy reading the series of Sherlock Holmes-spinoff novels by Laurie R King, starting with the Beekeeper’s Apprentice. They’re really well-written, interesting, historical novels (including various exotic settings) but the reason I mention them is that beekeeping by the Sherlock character features prominently in the first few books. And the main character/heroine is a fabulous, sassy, fearless, brilliant young woman, Mary Russell. 🎉
Another Bee Safe tip: When purchasing plants/starts at the nursery or big box stores avoid plants grown with Neonicotinoids (it should say so on the back of the plant tag). "Pollinator Safe or Bee-Safe" is the rational behind this. Some states have banned plants treated with insecticides outright though take a peek because the pretty flowers we may be purchasing could be causing harm. 🐝🐞🌻
Loved hearing sbout the bees. Do you sell your honey? The green and flowers are so much ahead of us in Michigan. I am beginning to see Forsythia and daffodils. Lovely podcast, thanks.
I've only been knitting a little over a year and just completed my first adult sweater last month. I want to make a cardigan and I think this will be the pattern for my first attempt because it will have the tutorial video with it. Now to pick the yarn while waiting for the pattern to release...😅. Can't wait to see your finished dress!
Love your videos! I also have that issue with left and right and I have learned it is a kind of dyslexia. It adds an extra layer to my job as well when I’m dealing with clients injuries.

Kaci, thanks so much for the bee talk. They are so critical to our food system and are “beeing” challenged all the time. Your new cardigan is AMAZING!
They really are! Also thank you! 😊

Loved hearing about the beekeeping side of things and seeing the footage. It's a very interesting topic and would love to see more.
Will do!
For plant fibers and superwash I like to use a "russian join". You cross the yarns and "weave in" the tail back into the yarn itself.
Yes! I tried that and felt in the end it made the yarn too thick
I love your tweed cardigan.
I love that you are sharing about your bees and the threats to bees. Maybe you could weave this into your work with a KAL prize being some of your honey someday. I would love that! Another interesting and lovely video, Kaci. We have fairly large garden areas, and most of my plantings are for birds, butterflies, and pollinators of all types. I'm adding more medicinal plants as well. I hope that your beehives do well this year, and that you get loads of delicious honey! 😊
Sounds great! Thank you
Hi Kaci, it was really interesting what you had to say about the bees!
Thank you so much! 😊
I have a fun pair of blue suede Mary Janes that are perfect with handknitted socks. Great thrift store find.
Oh wow! Those sound super fun
I’m thinking the blue dress could work for you in the family portrait, no?!
We will see how it fits!
Yep lol they fly so low over the house it seems like you could
Reach up and touch it
Love you sharing the Bee info. The more folks hear, the more they will be aware
Yes, thank you
thank you for sharing about your bees!
You bet! Thanks for watching
I haven’t ever been! I will have to look it up
Enjoyed your bee update! I love bees, hate wasps. Our townhouse complex has "bee flowers" everywhere and also vegetable and herb gardens as well as bee water bath. Still mostly see wasps 😡
Oh no! I’m not a fan of wasps either!!!
You are not alone, I too have always had trouble deciphering my left from my right. When I was eight I was in a car accident and it snapped both bones in my right arm which left a pretty interesting scar. Ever since then I always looked for the scar to know which arm is right.
YESS BEES!
🐝
Your cardigan is beautiful. And the bee talk was a bonus.❤
Thank you
The Pohjola is coming along so beautifully!! I've never knit a colourwork sweater before but I am really missing out! I think I need to get over my fear of colourwork and give it a try.
It has been so enjoyable!
No no, we ARE interested-or should be, everyone needs to be aware how important bees are to our very survival!! 🐝
You might enjoy reading the series of Sherlock Holmes-spinoff novels by Laurie R King, starting with the Beekeeper’s Apprentice. They’re really well-written, interesting, historical novels (including various exotic settings) but the reason I mention them is that beekeeping by the Sherlock character features prominently in the first few books. And the main character/heroine is a fabulous, sassy, fearless, brilliant young woman, Mary Russell. 🎉
Well said! Yes! I have the first book of the series 😊
Totally interested in your bees, thank you for the tips ❤
I'm so glad! Thanks!
Great point!
I swear every time I sit outside on the phone, here come the dang C130s! But, I live one town over from LRAFB, so that's how it goes I guess!
You probably get them more than we do lol
Love hearing about your bees!
Thank you!
I always love your episodes! Would you ever consider giving us a plant tour?
Great idea!
I can't wait to see your finished Winona Dress! 🧶
Thank you!!! 😊 I was just thinking I need to add my cardigan to your kal!
Wawak is amazing customer service for me so far! They’re good for it
Awesome!
Loved hearing sbout the bees. Do you sell your honey?
The green and flowers are so much ahead of us in Michigan. I am beginning to see Forsythia and daffodils.
Lovely podcast, thanks.
Thank you! We aren’t selling it at the moment but might do so again in future
Oooo I think you would enjoy it!
I’m a radiologist and I always have a really hard time with left and right! 😂 It’s doesn’t help that scintigraphy is the other way round as well. 🤪
Maybe we are dyslexic 🫠
Love your videos! I also have that issue with left and right and I have learned it is a kind of dyslexia. It adds an extra layer to my job as well when I’m dealing with clients injuries.
Maybe we need something for quick identification. If you invent it let me know haha
