    Something Denise (Earthtones Girl) said once in a sock tutorial has always stayed with me: "It's not hard, it's just new." When you talked about trying new things and improving our knitting, that immediately came to mind.
    I love that you didn't see how your shawl colors totally matched your room, the colors behind you (the plants, the pots, the wall hangings, the hat, the table) and are so you. Lovely color combo. It's more beautiful than Andrea's I think! (And I hope she watches your channel and sees this episode especially!)
    Your smile is infectious, Kaci. Thank you for being such a joyful presence and for sharing so many beautiful makes.

    Can't wait to see your step by step cardigan finished. I've been saving some Madara (Sake) and I think this might be the pattern! If you ever wanted to try the setup rows for a tubular bind off again, I found Suzanne Bryan's video to be extremely helpful. Her instruction to go down needle size for the last row before italian sewn, as well as for tubular setup rows has truly neatened up my bind offs 👍

    • @YoungfolkKnits
      @YoungfolkKnits  4 месяца назад

      I’ve been thinking about doing that since I always go down a needle size for the set up rows when casting on. But I’m happy with the couple of extra rows I don’t end up needing to do haha. Lazy knitter!

    On the subject of learning new skills, I would add to look at different methods people use. I tried to take a craftsy class to learn how to knit continental (for colorwork purposes) and the instructor was pretty set on you holding the yarn one way and my hands hated it no matter how much practice I gave it. I started watching different youtubers and finally found a method that seems to be working! I also got Knitting the National Parks hat pattern book and those are SUPER fun, short practice projects 😊

    🌴☀️I really love the colors of your shawl. I must admit the challenges with FOMO as a maker. I spend about $4k-6k on average a yr buying mainly hand dyed yarns & as a woman with curves I think I may be low balling that amount.
    But so far this year I’ve made significant progress & have purchased ZERO yarn. The cost is staggering & every video I watch of whom I’m subscribed to always has a beautiful yarn which, is almost always already sold out, especially made for “that maker”, is $40 a skein & I need 4 or 5 skeins or is no longer produced.
    I am so proud of myself for exercising restraint, that’s why I love love love Wool and the Forest podcast because she supports one’s efforts to not consume “as much” as we may tend to do at times.
    I love seeing all the wonderful things knitting podcasters have managed to add to their stash but sometimes, like today it’s so very tempting to not click the buy button, a sensation I’m trying to conquer.
    You mentioned dyers don’t really make significant profits, but alas, MAKERS these days get nothing but Thor’s hammer. Thanks for another stunning video. Thanks for taking the time to even feel like doing it, for thinking of a topic, for pressing record, for editing, the photography, music, time away from your family, the WiFi costs, waiting for the down/uploads…THANK YOU DEAR MAKER☀️🌴

      This is such an important topic. I have so many thoughts on it - first and foremost that being financially responsible is most important! I’m so proud of you and I myself am trying to do better about not buying just because It’s something I want but don’t need. I do feel a bit of a difficult situation in the fact that I am often paid to review or discuss products therefore I am (by the nature of the job) going to be showing products often. I do want to be conscious of supporting goals of less spending and consumerism tho! Thank you for watching my podcast I do appreciate it so much

    I didn’t like the Melt shawl until I saw yours. So beautiful. Dare I try it if I’ve not done Brioche. Well I tried a hat and don’t know how to fix my mistake but I do understand how to do it. What do you think?

    I just got the melt shawl pattern you featured in this episode but I want to do it in one color since I’ve never done brioche and all the ends. Would the brioche technique be the same??

    • @YoungfolkKnits
      @YoungfolkKnits  4 месяца назад +1

      She has you do this in a where you knit the rows on the front twice and then the rows on the back twice because you are using different colors. If you are familiar with brioche and comfortable switching it to single color brioche you could do that. Or attach a second ball and just follow the instructions as if it were two colors

    I looove your Melt shawl! I just bought a kit for this, obsessed with this look! Question - you mentioned not needing a 4th skein -- one thing I'm confused about is that the pattern mentions 2 sizes, one requiring 3 skeins and one requiring 4. But in the tester photos it seems like everyone assumed there was only one size option. I'd like to make the largest version possible, but the kit I bought is only 3 skeins - do you think that would that allow me to make the regular or the large size?

    • @YoungfolkKnits
      @YoungfolkKnits  4 месяца назад +1

      There was only one size when we tested it and I’m assuming that is size 1. honestly can’t tell you for sure but I would assume you would dip into a 4 skein

    • @monicalarose7980

      @@YoungfolkKnits thank you! I probably wasnt clear in my question, I meant the kit has 3 skeins of the main color vs 4 and then the 2 contrast colors.

    the spinning scene is just... perfec. is it sped up? or do wheels really spin this fast? I only have a drop spindle so it kinda fells like your wheel is going in Warp speed LOL

      I was hoping you’d say that. Normally, I’d go for the largest shawl; but, yours looked like a nice size. Not sure about all those ends though (I cry easily 😉). Is there a reason why the unused yarns can’t be carried along?

    I think it was in last year's Westknits MKAl that Stephen showed a method for carrying up a colour up the side of a shawl by concealing it in the i-cord edging... I wonder if that would work for this shawl, especially if the two CCs are single-row stripes, which would mean you could hide one colour in each edge.

    • @YoungfolkKnits
      @YoungfolkKnits  4 месяца назад

      Normally you could but the way these stripes work you can’t :(
