This is a ridiculous but educational interview that is clip worthy to send around people. Just Elizabeth Warren reacting to those thirst trap examples was insane. This is a prime example of a top comedy show interview.
Nuance is alot of responsibility. You gotta balance that others can only handle certain aspects of you and not the whole and you gotta flexibly give them that without losing your self if you want to keep them.
You can’t scale empathy without generalizing people. It’s antithetical to empathy unless there is a mass shared experience like a natural disaster. Not all people in poverty are there for the same reasons so you can’t empathize with them all at once.
@@----REDACTED---- no. I think more clearly I’m saying you cannot scale empathy. Empathy is definitionally personal. To scale the personal and make it general will not accomplish the goal. Empathy is for interpersonal relationships. Empathy in relationships with people you know is often flawed and leads to misunderstanding. Extending that to people you don’t know at scale is unworkable in my opinion.
Saw “Hasan Minaj” pop up on my notifications and squealed with glee, like a little girl… Great interview, glad to see you back, dude! Didn’t hurt that I got to listen to Sen. Warren rip my former employer a new one for the first five minutes. That did my soul good! Welcome back!
It's important to remember that people in rural areas are often less educated due to underinvestment in education in these regions. Politicians and the billionaires backing them exploit these individuals to undermine the middle class in urban areas, which poses a real threat to their power consolidation strategies. The true enemy isn't the people living in poor areas with fewer educational and job opportunities, but the politicians and billionaires exploiting their situation.
Sadly…President Lyndon B. Johnson once said, "If you can convince the lowest white man he's better than the best colored man, he won't notice you're picking his pocket. Hell, give him somebody to look down on, and he'll empty his pockets for you." Too many politicians think this way.
It sounds like ageism to me. People are living longer. That is why the retirement age is now 67 - not 65. And Warren sounds like she has all her senses. She's 74. She shouldn't be required to retire at 65. If people don't want her in office, they can vote her out.
@@EmmaTheresa-nl8rsI don’t think that’s the case. Voters are also older, shaping who they vote for. The reality is, it’s not fair to have people in office who won’t live to see the results of their own poor policy. For example, it’s good that Ted Cruz gets dunked on for Cancun. He’s going to have to live with that. Regardless of his lying, he still gets voted for.

Thank you Hasan for having Sen. Warren on your vlog. A very lively discussion about messaging, and the moral challenges of serving as a president. I love Sen. @@cubeb3I had early-voted for Warren, and I would again in a heartbeat, but I think it is proper that Kamala was the VP. I should have had to decide between the two of them. What hit me the hardest when Kamala dropped out was calculating how long someone earning $15 an hour would have to save to make the maximum donation. I think it was a month. (And then trolls would be on about her not handling her funds.) I was surprised, too, though. It felt out of character for Warren. I figured someone on her team thought she needed to look more aggressive. She didn't. Her normal demeanor always made the point clearly.

Why do I even have to file taxes in this day and age, even if it is free? Can't some government service just aggregate all my tax forms from my employers and financial institutions, crunch numbers, and tell me how much I owe or get back? That should work for at least 90% of people's tax situations
real answer, because the IRS can't know every detail of your life even if they have all your income recorded. They don't know if you signed your kid up to some program that allows for a tax deduction or if you've take some other action that would make they give you money back. in addition there's always the chance you did some off the books work that didn't produce a payroll filing with the IRS.
She's a major reason we have Biden to begin with. I remember when she sold out the man who had 99% the same policy as her, and was winning the race, Bernie, for dementia Joe. We knew he was brain dead back then.

This is a ridiculous but educational interview that is clip worthy to send around people. Just Elizabeth Warren reacting to those thirst trap examples was insane. This is a prime example of a top comedy show interview.
"How do you scale empathy" Great great question. It isn't applied efficiency now.
@noahtrimble9923 So you're saying, scaling empathy requires a delicate and flexible approach?
Yes. That question gave me goosebumps
She’s my heroine! I was so disappointed when she dropped out. My dream team were her & Bernie.
Expect for when she tried to slander and backstab Bernie on the debate stage. Hugely disappointing moment.
Couldn’t agree more
Agree with your two choices, both brilliant politicians
She betrayed Bernie.
Yeah... Bernie talks a lot, but Warren legislates
Saw “Hasan Minaj” pop up on my notifications and squealed with glee, like a little girl…
Great interview, glad to see you back, dude! Didn’t hurt that I got to listen to Sen. Warren rip my former employer a new one for the first five minutes. That did my soul good!
Welcome back!
Damn, I love Hassan. His depth and ability to ask meaningful questions is rare. ❤
Agree 👍. Trump has said that he loves the uneducated. Think about it 🤔!!
You’re spot on! People are being manipulated-
The inner cities too
Sadly…President Lyndon B. Johnson once said, "If you can convince the lowest white man he's better than the best colored man, he won't notice you're picking his pocket. Hell, give him somebody to look down on, and he'll empty his pockets for you." Too many politicians think this way.
“You don’t get what you don’t fight for.”

If politicians retired at 65 the rest of us would be able to retire at 65
Most Americans wish politicians retired at 65...
It takes a few years to gain the experience needed for high office, and starts with school boards and state legislatures. What are you running for?
most ppl cannot afford to retire at 65
It sounds like ageism to me.
Hasan!! So nice to see and hear you again! Excellent interview w/Senator Warren. You asked the kinds of questions that many of us really wonder but never hear asked AND the kind that never had occurred to me that really made me think. Thank you!
I do not trust the editing of these videos. Hasan is a funny comedian who interferes with the facts to make a punch line stick.
@@void9837 You're making a good reminder that Hasan is a comedian. And, I see your point about the editing. It says a lot about my trust in our news media that I feel the need to also listen to comedians ... for balance! Sheesh.
That question about philosophy was incredible and it should be asked of every person campaigning for any damned office out there.
It was a good question...but the problem is that too many voters (even in Massachusetts) wouldn't care about the answer and would make their voting decisions on some other basis.
Warren is just too smart for Americans
Not all of us. I like Elizabeth Warren.
well she is definitely too smart for Florida
And Americans are absolutely too dumb for democracy. But she can never admit that.
She's awesome with a great sense of humor and "real" facts!
I used to love her until she unjustly smeared Bernie as a sexist and stayed in the race after all of the neoliberals/centrists coalesced behind Biden. She did everything she could to prevent a Bernie presidency.
We could of had her in 2020 why did biden get the nomination over Warren 😢
I wanted to vote for her but by the time my primary came around, there was only Biden.
I caucused for EW in 2020, but she didn’t reach viability. So most of us went to Bernie. I think the general feeling was that Bernie was a “purer” progressive 🤷🏽♀️.
@@honeybadger1847which, if you paid attention to how she treated the left/Bernie her “longtime friend” during and after, was 100% a confirmed suspicion.
Because the only thing leftists love more than fighting against centrists people is fighting against other leftists
You literally have someone in this very comment section agreeing that "She wasn't pure enough" lmao
Leftist infighting killed Elizabeth Warrens campaign. Had Bernie not run, she could have actually beat Joe Biden because she appeals to more than just leftists and actually has a chance in the general.
Obama’s Vice president swept the South in the primaries.
Thank you Hasan for having Sen. Warren on your vlog. A very lively discussion about messaging, and the moral challenges of serving as a president. I love Sen. Warren and voted for her in the 2016 primary, when her messages were "Hope Over Fear" and "Nevertheless, She Persisted." I feel that she's been an excellent senator and have donated to her re-election in Massachusetts even though I live in Seattle, WA.
"never underestimate the moral depravity and rachetry of the American public" how accurate that was
This is Hasan at his best. He’s great at stand up. He’s great at roasts. But this is sublime. This is his secret sauce.
I wanted her for president so very badly. I still have a Warren sticker on my car. I know she is a politician with skeletons in her closet like any other politician has. I just appreciated that she seemed to understand the mechanisms of governance, economics, and policy in a way made me want to see her in action as a leader.
I believe she could’ve been VP with Biden, but she just went to war with him and that didn’t help either candidate.
(And then trolls would be on about her not handling her funds.)
I was surprised, too, though. It felt out of character for Warren. I figured someone on her team thought she needed to look more aggressive. She didn't. Her normal demeanor always made the point clearly.
@@elebenty5709 We are screwed whenever these politicians start personally attacking one another instead of attacking policy.
@@cubeb3 Agreed. We don't have time for bickering and pettiness.
she screwed Bernie over
Tampa! More like Jacksonville. Hasan, your humor can save Democracy. Please interview Rachel Maddow, Joy Reid, Tara Setmeyer, VP Harris and Michele Obama next. I’ll bet you can book them all. You’re built for this moment!
When he says, “ When I leave the restroom... I just finished the job.” had me rolling LOL! Big ups to Hasan Minhaj.
I'm from India. And damn.... I wish we had politicians like this.
Wrong , PM Modi show balls speaking to Putin in the face about death of innocent caused by his “ special operation “ 🙏🏻
It's funny to see when the camera pans out, they are sitting awkwardly close😂
I wholeheartedly agree that what people think you do matters more than what you actually do because so many people don’t actually know what governing is happening.
Elizabeth warren would have been such a great president. Minhaj and Warren: what a combo!
Love to see more of you Hasan. More of this format, more content at all from you.
During the race for election, the public and the dems need you and your kind of messaging more than ever.
“They just end up either painting or podcasting” 😂
"You don't get what you don't fight for."
Well said.
You got to love Hasan Minhaj he is the only adult in a room filled with seniors
Haha I love it!!!
Elizabeth Warren is definitely an adult in the room. She's been mentoring leaders for decades.
Not a big fan of her re. Bernie, or her absolutist position on digital currencies, but I dig her passion, grit, intelligence and sense of humor and feel like, generally I can trust that, whatever she says is honest and from the heart. Good interview
literally all currency is digital
I feel the same. I respect many of her positions, her drive and intelligence, etc. However, what she did to Bernie addresses what she said about a President having to make hard decisions and doing things they didn't feel good about. She didn't have to slander Bernie, and it didn't help her either.
She's better than Trump or Biden of course, but we deserve someone like Bernie. Let's stop settling.
She said Biden is sharp! and you trust her. She is anti innovation & Anti-crypto in America for no reason, other than her big Bank donners .
she's "building an army"! lol
Crypto uses way too much electricity
❤❤❤ ok but why do I love these two chatting so much? It's kinda like Snoop Dogg & Martha Stewart, and I would LOVE to see a Minhaj/Warren friendship! 😊
Hello Production team!
Great production of this content! Way to show with your own content how to wake people up and educate them while entertaining them. This feels adjacent to Last Week Tonight (I mean, both Daily Show educated 🙂), and I hope there will be much more content coming!!
The “message” really is so important, very funny interview but very thoughtful. Glad you’re back, we need you!
I will always vote for Elizabeth Warren. She's one of the few politicians that give me hope.
I would certainly vote for her if I lived in Mass.
Wow… what an interview… that empathy question
She could've been the best president in history. We really fumbled on this.
Good to see you moving. Tough stuff.
Glad to have something more from you- it’s appreciated. Stay up
How about
"SAVE DEMOCRACY"
She had my vote in 2020 and y'all dropped the ball.....
👍
Thank you Hasan for your public service of trying to modernize these people and get them in touch with the youth
I love Elizabeth W. We need more people like her in congress .
So hyped for more content. Still think about your show I saw when I was a teanager visiting NYC. Great interview with good questions.
Why do I even have to file taxes in this day and age, even if it is free? Can't some government service just aggregate all my tax forms from my employers and financial institutions, crunch numbers, and tell me how much I owe or get back? That should work for at least 90% of people's tax situations
💯
Rhetorical question, because we all know the answer. Turbotax and H&RBlock lobbied to keep it the way it is.
She never said free!
real answer, because the IRS can't know every detail of your life even if they have all your income recorded. They don't know if you signed your kid up to some program that allows for a tax deduction or if you've take some other action that would make they give you money back. in addition there's always the chance you did some off the books work that didn't produce a payroll filing with the IRS.
Yep you can do that but then don't dispute over privacy issues and gov looking over everything you do
Biden could never talk like that … she is so eloquent and reassuring
Yet she is not running this year, she is supporting President Biden.
She's a major reason we have Biden to begin with. I remember when she sold out the man who had 99% the same policy as her, and was winning the race, Bernie, for dementia Joe. We knew he was brain dead back then.
Dude - you’re just SO damn good. Glad ur back and doing your thing… Please keep it up, b/c we pretty much *are* too dumb for democracy, and hopefully charisma like yours can help make smart cool again. Big score Hasan! Congratulations. Senator Warren is good sport with PG13 language.
HOW DID I NOT KNOW HE HAS A NEW SHOW!!! I was so sad when Netflix cancelled The Patriot Act.
Same! I'm so glad he's back!
Hasan is a tonic……..great to have you back
That thirst trap part really got me. 😂
This episode felt like Sen. Warren was a middle school teacher who sat down with middle schooler Hasan, who was the student about to move up to high school, and they had a "Big Things" talk.
DEFINITELY would consider doing another video about directfile closer to tax season
Agreed. I only heard about it from this interview!
Bro called this an interview and made it a college lecture
When you have someone like Warren, just letting them talk is probably the best interview technique to master.
@@SigFigNewton No I agree, but I feel like Minhaj spent as much time explaining the answers as he did asking questions. Like, he’d ask how she felt about “messaging” and then spin off into a lesson on the need for better messaging in the Democratic Party
@@cherrylk4188 yeah. I suppose I didn’t mind that
When my dad gets riled up about setbacks I tell him Hold That Line. Dig in and keep making progress. Glad you're back. Great interview.

Bro, I could never get enough of this guy. May God bless him. This guy is the savage.
"Is America too dumb for democracy?"
This really is the question of our age.
American Democracy is too dumb for anyone
Thomas Jefferson said that to keep our democracy depends on an educated public!!
It’s more like those who seek power keep people dumb - spread misinformation, ban books, cut programs and funds…while their “targets” cheer them on 😢
MR. HASAN MINHAJ, BACK LIKE HE NEVER LEFT!!!! 😎🤞🐐🤌
That warning that this was recorded before the first debate had me cackling
The paradox of the presidency is how to balance empathy.

What a quote.
Great interview! If only we had more politicians as intelligent and no-nonsense as Warren. The two of you made a great "odd couple", lots of screen charisma together.
