Such a bummer that conservatives and main stream liberals painted this guy as a some kind of extremist. He literally just talks common sense. Props to Theo for interviewing him.
Basically all politics in the us is centre-right or far right, compared to the rest of the western world. The power of media companies for decades coupled with the removal of the Fairness Doctrine has allowed right-wing media to paint anything not them as super scary and radical. In reality, the Democratic party is more like the old Republican Party used to be when they were progressive.
Anyone with a brain knows how badly he would fuck up the economy with his capital gains and income tax proposals. He would destroy retirements and make day-to-day living far more difficult ESPECIALLY post covid... this really isnt very difficult to understand.
Theo discussing our broken healthcare system with Bernie on his podcast is *_INCREDIBLY IMPORTANT._* He asked Bernie better questions than most credentialed journalists, including the specifics of cost, tax burden etc.
100%! We need to keep this conversation going about our terrible for-profit healthcare system. Mainstream news won’t talk about it, yet we have to bear the burden of going into bankruptcy possibly just to live if we get cancer. Fuck that. Thank you Theo for having Bernie on your show 🙏🏽
I went to a small book signing event in Vermont by Bernie a while ago and he was so humble. He got to the event while we were waiting in line and he even held the door open for us to walk in to the event. He’s amazing.
Yeah, he is great. Or at least says great things, and they go and announce "he is friend with Biden and that he is doing great". This is some kind of schizophrenia I can not comprehend. He says that he opposes one thing, and then he will go and be friends with people who are responsible for the things he oppose. Make that make sense.
Theo, I’m a big politics nerd. I grew up in a house with elected officials for parents. I’ve sat through more political interviews, media training sessions, and debates than you can imagine. You asked some of the best questions in the most concise ways of any interviewer I’ve ever heard, and it elicited some of the best responses from Bernie. This was, I think, one of the best pieces of political content to show to an audience that isn’t explicitly interested in politics to help them digest a very broad and deep subject. Great job, you should be proud. This is meaningful work.
Whenever I listen to Bernie, I'm struck by how refreshing it is to hear an American politician actually ANSWER the question that was asked of them...not just work their way back to whatever point they wanted to make. If you're wondering if there are any politicians who fight for us, not just their own interests or greed, here he is.
Bernie is a textbook definition of swamp creature and insider trading. He’s been in federal politics since 1990. He is a puppet of fake realism like the rest of them, absolute garbage
I think that’s why young people liked him. People eventually get worn down and come to accept the bullshitting and corruption. I mean look at the Trump Biden debate. These are supposed to be our best presidential candidates and they were lying and dodging questions non stop.
Conservative here. This was fantastic. I do not agree with some of the things Bernie suggests we should do, however, to hear him discuss things like his healthcare plan (AND the "why" behind it) with Theo's potentially unintentional humor was extremely educational/helpful. Fox would never give him a platform to at least explain himself without making him look stupid, CNN would not give him a platform to at least explain himself without making those who oppose him look stupid. My respect for Bernie went up a little bit. Hate to say it, but he sounds much more intelligent and level-headed than many of the folks talking on both sides of the aisle right now.
he said biden did a great job and kamala has to win to continue it....i dont think he is in touch with reality to any degree at all to make any level headed points at all when he says something like that
Ultimately you’re being lied to about healthcare. I’ve been fortunate enough to travel to many countries with universal healthcare and they think our system is insane. I’ve been confused how Trump is the right’s “outsider” when he’s a billionaire, a billionaire will never be a political outsider, they’ve been playing politics their whole life. One good billionaire has been Cuban who started a pharmacy company that cuts out the middle man and the drugs are so much cheaper.
Bernie, if nothing else, speaks more coherently, sanely, and in a more informative way than Biden and Trump combined. Honestly throw Kamala in there too, he's such a phenomenal speaker

The reason Bernie is this articulate at his old age is because he is literally speaking about his life long passion. Truly a man of the people. He wants to radically help as many people as he possibly can and some people hate him for it.
Some people only see color, and just cause he's blue they don't trust him or his policies. He's everything the average man could want policy-wise for their country

I find it amazing that Bernie Sanders is painted as a radical character. He's just a sensible, peagmatic person on the side of the everyday person. What's really interesting is seeing Theo rationalising his thinking, and accepting alternative ideas without being defensive or partisan, and specifically he is absolutely willing to make himself look dumb (he is most definitely not), but he isn't afraid of saying he doesn't understand something and asking a "daft lad" question. We should all be a bit more like this. Great interview.
Agreed, this is absolutely one of Theo's most admirable superpowers: being unafraid to look uninformed. He asks wonderful questions and actually opens his mind to accept an answer he does not expect.
I find it so fascinating that so many people think that Theo is smart. He is obviously dumb. Be he makes the most out of it, and it is exactly what makes his interviews so interesting. Because he asks the dumb questions; often questions nobody would even think about, and that brings the conversations to unique and interesting places.

Dude’s been a teacher, psychiatric aide, carpenter, among several other jobs. He grew up lower class in Brooklyn, where he was part of his school fundraisers for Korean war orphans and others in the area while in high school. Joined many anti-segregation events as a member of the Congress of Racial Equality in college and fought for the civil rights movement. The protests that he organized, led, and was part of are directly responsible for the University of Chicago ending student segregation. He was AT MLK’s “I have a dream” speech in Washington, later that summer he was fined for resisting arrest at a Chicago demonstration against public school segregation. This is all still in college. He has been staunchly anti-war going back to pre-Vietnam. Despite this, he hs always pushed for increased veterans’ protections and rights to benefits. He has been fighting for the same basic rights of equality, healthcare, and education for longer than all of you have been alive. Probably before many of your parents were alive. And he’s never been afraid to walk across the aisle and pass bipartisan bills when agreements can be reached. Idgaf what jobs he’s had, because he’s been doing everything in his power to fight for those in need since literal childhood. He said this during a debate in 2019. Rep. Tim Ryan tried to argue the contents of a proposed bill, interrupting Sanders by saying, "You don't know that". Sanders replied "I DO know that because I wrote the damn bill" and continued answering the question. Classic.
Never listened to Bernie Sanders through a whole interview before, realized he is not who the mainstream media has made him out to be. I also realized Theo Von is the best thing to happen to media and everyone should be listening to these podcasts.

Her primary motivation to move was that she was disgusted with having to bill patients for every med, bandaid, ice pack, inch of tape, etc. when her patients just needed compassion and care. If they weren’t approved by insurance, life saving measures were denied when they were readily available. Healthcare should be a human right in every country.
Well that was a waste of immigration. She should be mad at the insurance companies, not the hospitals. Our two main parties seem to feel that either owning the other or shaming/embarrassing the other is what will achieve their goals and get people to see the light. If sorting out our national psychosis is really something they want to do, they could take a page from Theo's modest playbook.
It just goes to show you how the right and left in this country are what keep us from progress and people like Bernie Sanders are the only ones fighting for progress. Trump, Biden, neither of them are good for America. Progressive policies are what have made our country better.
bernie would’ve beat trump in 2016 and 2020, but he wasn’t with the establishment so he was systematically taken out. that’s the sad truth. this country would be on a much better track if we were in the right timeline.
It's sad seeing Bernie toe the Dem line here. I can't believe he really believes all of it... but they have something over him. I don't know what it is, but if I was him there would be no way I could support them after how they'd screwed me (and the country) over.
Yeah...although I do think Bernie has still been incredibly influential with many new policies. As he said, you don't need to be the leader to be influential. And now you see things like what he mentioned where expensive drugs are negotiated down in price via medicare in the inflation reduction act. Bernie has influenced Biden and Harris, the latter especially takes a lot of her ideas from Bernie luckily.
Probably the longest I’ve spent listening to a senator . Much more palatable when Theo is the interviewer and Bernie is great at helping you understand his points
The saddest thing I've ever had to witness was my father in law suffering from COPD and not being allowed the amount of oxygen he desperately needed to literally live and breathe due to insurance and what they supply. This man was a hard working, wood cutting family man. When he was in the last stages of life he apparently wasn't privileged enough to have the oxygen to literally survive. The insurance companies would only supply a certain amount of tanks for a certain number of days.. Imagine living on the edge of dying every single day. On top of that he was house bound because they did not cover the Inogen machine that was compact to travel with, not even to see family could he go. Yes he could lug a tank around, but that would take from his supply for the alloted time. He couldn't participate in anything, he was literally locked by oxygen chain to his bed hoping he had enough air. We gathered around him and supported him as much as we could. He suffered this way for many years and it more than pisses you off. He had to allocate his oxygen and someday use less and be miserable to make sure he had enough to make it until the next delivery. The Inogen machine was 5 to 8,000$ not many people I know could afford that, even if their life depended on it. Insurance covered zero of the costs of those machines. Our Healthcare system is beyond repair at this rate. Everyone I know has an awful story of a family member suffering from the effects of medical costs.

Trump is also the one running for POTUS this November. Bernie hasn't even been floated as a cabinet member for Biden or Kamala, so the odds of his ideas serving anyone but his own re-election campaigns are pretty much zip to nil, and the odds of him running for POTUS 4 years from now is also probably pretty unlikely. If they weren’t approved by insurance, life saving measures were denied when they were readily available. Healthcare should be a human right in every country.

I am very very sorry for your loss. I absolutely hear you. I have three dear friends w cancer and lost two others. The most recent a super cool cat that sang and played guitar and I'm just sad. @@tylerdrewnoski4003 unfortunately true, we should never let them define themselves as the “pro” life Party. No, the Republican Party proves themselves at every turn to be a pro death Party with little to no concern for living breathing people. Instead they focus all their energy and votes to prevent abortions that in almost 99% of cases happen in the first 16 weeks and involve a fetus with the sentience of a trout. The other 1% are actual medical emergencies where the life of the mother is in danger.
Super sorry about the dad from the initial comment, it should never happen!

As a young nurse in this country struggling to get up and go to work everyday, thank you. Truly, thank you.
You would get paid a lot less if we had universal healthcare. Canada doesn’t pay the medical field as good the reason it’s free but not good healthcare. I agree nurses should get paid way more they do 90% of the work. There’s a reason he’s never got any traction on his fascist views.

The DNC royally screwed this man and most of America over in 2016, and again in 2020. Technically a third time if you consider they didn't even let their own voters pick Kamala as the nominee, but I don't think he'd have ran this year anyways. But it's still disheartening to know how much corporate greed really does control both parties.

Yup, Trump sounded like this one grandpa during family dinner with strong political opinions. Gotta admit tho it was refreshing seeing him say more than just buzzwords.
Bernie’s interview was definitely better, but take into account that he’s being interviewed on his life’s passion. Theo was talking to Trump about personal family issues, addiction, and then pressing him on the healthcare system which isn’t his big platform focus.
@@mackie9255But as someone on the presidential ticket, shouldn’t he have a constructive and rigorous plan/opinion on a policy concern as massive as healthcare?

It's wild to see interviews with people that are miles apart on the US political spectrum, yet they're both treated with the same great respect. The interviewees treated Theo with great respect, too. This is what I want to see more of. I don't have to agree with a politician's platform to be willing to give them a chance to speak.
