The amount of positive change I have seen in Illinois since Pritzker has been elected is staggering. He is one of the politicians I am most proud of endorsing, he just does really great work
FYI in the Citizens United versus FEC Thomas was the deciding factor. Had he recused himself the decision would have been 4/4 and not the law of the land. In 2010 when that case came before the courts Thomas had been taking money from Harlan Crow for over 6 years. Harlan Crow was the president of the Trammel Crow foundation that was one of the largest donors to Citizens United. There is a direct line of money and corruption from Harlan Corw to Citizens United and Clarence Thomas simultaneously.

tldr: As a resident of Southern Illinois I want to say that Governor Pritzker is great but he needs to try to connect with the residents of rural southern illinois more. First off I want to say thank you to Hasan for having our governor on, I was so happy to see him interviewed. I personally voted for JB Pritzker, and would happily do so again. The only thing I wish he would do more of is try to win over the people in the southern part of the state. I live in southern Illinois, I am much closer to Kentucky than I am to Chicago, and the majority of people here don't feel seen or heard by our state government. Many people from the southern part of the state believe we should split the state into northern and southern Illinois because they truly believe the state government only cares about and listens to people in Chicago. I personally don't believe that, but it is very rare for the governor or anyone in high state office to travel to southern Illinois to speak or visit. It is very isolating to be a Democrat down here and it is exhausting trying to convince people who only watch fox news that our governor is actually doing great things for our state. So anyway, I guess my point was I wish he would spend more energy and time trying to connect with the people in the southern half of the state but I still really like him and am glad he's our governor.
Zerbaxa is right, this is what's so funny/sad about rural areas like southern Illinois. Taxes on the north are what pay for the roads to rural towns. I've been on southern Illinois roads and they're already a nightmare but without Chicago tax dollars they would be non existent.
They still deserve a voice though. What Amanda is asking for isn't much it's just the bare minimum to be honest. They deserve some attention and love too. Imagine a school group project that you have no say in and only the popular people get to contribute and have a say in the direction it goes, even if you get a good grade it still feels like a hollow experience because you didn't really get to participate or feel like you had an equitable share of a say worthy of your voice.
@@snow86241 I live in central Illinois and I've seen politics from every corner of this state. The people who live in rural areas have been out reached to constantly but always refuse any help. They live far up their own asses and I have to say are often some of the most racist, sexist and bigoted people you have ever met. Even more so than many places in the so-called bible belt. There is a map of sundown towns in America and an absurd number of them are in central and southern Illinois. Trust me when I say that most of rural Illinois are their own worst political enemies in every sense of the word. As JB said, they voted against a tax bill that would have lowered their taxes. They did so because the most wealthy Republican in the state told them to. They were literally offered tax relief on a silver platter and they refused to indulge. Essentially, without Chicago, Champaign and a few other cities Illinois would be redder than Indiana and poorer than Missouri.
Its a fair complaint. Our state is very diverse in a ton of ways, especially region. I hope that he tries to reach out of all of Illinois, but the sad fact is that more than 60% of the population of the state live within 2 hours of Chicago. Rauner, a Republican, is from Chicago. Really the only executive in state government not from Chicagoland is the Treasurer (and hes from Champaign).
If I had a year with this guy, I'd fashion him into a unbeatable politician who wins the Presidency. Pritzker has so much potential and is such a good guy. I'm new to him, but he made a good intro (policies are solid, so he qualifies).
@@Mande1985 I don't think he has the stomach for it. He is generally too nice for politics. I think part of his appeal is that he will listen to anybody in Illinois, but will push back politely if you are off base.

Thanks to JB, our state’s credit rating has gone up 9 times! We’ve legalized weed, passed balanced budgets, expanded reproductive rights to the point where we’re now an abortion haven, and we’re only the 3rd state to pass mandatory paid leave for all workers. I was hesitant to vote for him the first time, but he’s been amazing, especially after our previous garbage Republican governor left the state a mess!
As someone who voted for Bernie Sanders in the Democratic primaries in 2016, I will definitely vote for JB Pritzker over Bernie Sanders for president! 🇺🇸 I don’t understand why conservatives, especially conservative billionaires, don’t want our great country to do well. JB Pritzker has proven that it’s possible to be rich and still help your fellow man.
It’s incredible that this comment section ignores all the rights this governor is trying to erase for the people of this state. Not to mention the funds that are going towards non-citizens with no consideration for the people that actually live here and their safety.

Yes, Pritzker makes exactly the right assessment. I would gladly vote for him because he is a realist and uses his wealth for good. I challenge anyone that pretends to have ethics as the highest priority for the litmus test and then comesinto billions of dollars like winning the lottery, to quite literally put their money where their mouth is. I doubt anyone comes into that much money would do even a quarter as much as Pritzker has done for Illinois. So making blanket statements of ethics without real Knowledge is being obtuse
JB has been a great governor for the state. Working in the Illinois government I know firsthand the strides made to increase transparency in spending and modernizing our systems. You'd be appalled by the legacy systems that were running our entire government. They are literally 40 years old and look like the program pong ran on. Modernizing these systems I can guarantee will save hundreds of millions in efficiency alone.
To the comments stating "billionaires shouldn't exist". I agree in the context of current wealth inequity and that there are too many billionaires around that shouldn't have been but do because of flaws in the system. The horses have bolted with those problems unfortunately, and the only way to mitigate it is taxation. However let's do remember the point of progressivism is that it's better to target systems, policies and consequences for people's actions than people's account balances themselves (which is an effect, not the cause), as good people can exist in spite of the incentives. It's a real litmus test on a person's character in fact, to be able to stand up against status quo and against their own interests, more than about being on the "right side".
Grew up in Ohio and moved to Chicago 11 years ago. Liked Pritzker from the start, but love him now. The man just flat out gets things done. As an Illinois resident I have to say that J.B. Pritzker is the best governor our state has had in a very, very long time. When he first hit the scene, I too had my reservations. But he was a bastion of reason during the pandemic, and his contributions to our state have been numerous.

I think northern Illinois would come out ahead in that deal... They should be careful what they wish for. Join Kentucky see how that goes

4 59... It's the corruption of immense wealth. There may be good billionaires and multimillionaires, but the problem is they can do a 180 at any time and decide not to be so good, because they have the wealth to do that, where 99% of hard working people don't have that choice and never will.
