    How to swap fuel injectors. This video shows a full walkthrough step by step injector swap on a silverado 5.3L engine, but should be the same for other gm and chevy engines like the 4.8 and 6.0. It is also similar on many other vehicles. pretty straight forward, and will help you save money doing this yourself!

    excellent video man, thanks. i don't have any codes coming up like that but i have some kind of black crap getting back into my gas tank and its so gnarly that it plugs up the fuel filter socks. I was thinking it was some how coming from my charcoal canister, Just replaced all that, cleaned all the lines out and got it all back in. i don't know that it solved the problem yet however. i am having a bleed down of the fuel pressure and was thinking it;s possibly the injectors but I have no leaks and all cylinders are hitting ( changed out the plugs as well )
    i just won an auction for a master kit fuel pressure tester and fuel rail cleaner though so in a few days i will be checking all that out as well. This problem has been like the plague pump after pump, cleaning the tank and lines,changing the filters, rebuilding the fuel pump assembly. this is the 5th time since January! GRRR
    if the charcoal canister was not bleeding dust up into my tank, then the black crap has got to be coming from the return side of my fuel system right? anyone had something like this happen? when I take a plugged sock off the assembly, put it in a baggy, fill the baggy with 90% alcohol and shake it till some of the dust comes out, then dry the alcohol all that is left is super fine black dust.
    Oh yeah, and as soon as I shut the engine off my fuel pressure goes to zero.

    I'm impressed by the reading on your oil pressure gauge while the check engine oil light is on. My 6.0 liter oil pressure gauge reads only around 40, sometimes a bit lower stopped at a traffic light. High miles though about 225000.

      @damkayaker - it’s just saying change engine oil. The pressure was fine in this truck. My 01 6.0 Silverado runs about 60 psi cruising and a little over 40 at its lowest sometimes idling. 40 is normal actually. The majority of these motors I have had run about 40 psi constant and maybe sometimes just go slightly below that but too much below 40 and something is going on.

After changing the oil I have to turn the key to run, engine off, stomp on the gas pedal three times, and the oil light will blink 5 times letting me know it's reset. Only once did I forget to reset it and the light came on making me think I was low on oil. I wasn't low, the oil life thing thought enough miles went by to change it. It's a retarded reset procedure. Good job young man. I just retired from welding, and your jacket or coverall cuffs look just like mine always did. Do you weld some?
    Anyway, now my hobby has become working on the grandson’s ‘99 Sierra pickup. I’m getting ready to check the injectors to stop a random misfire code from popping up. The fuel system looses pressure as soon as the key is turned off. Thanks for your video.

    • @FantasyCustoms4Life
      @FantasyCustoms4Life  5 лет назад +7

      Yes, I do weld often at my shop. These carhart jackets last about 2 or 3 years for me before they are bad like that. About be truck. If the truck is losing fuel rail pressure after being turned off look at the fuel pump, there is a one way valve that goes bad or gets stuck open causing the pressure to bleed back in the tank. Also like you are probably thinking check the injectors as well swap with some know good ones. Good luck, have fun, and enjoy your retirement! Cheers

I just took my 97 GMC pickup truck to the mechanic and he said he fixed it but now he said there's black smoke coming out from the exhaust. Hi great video. My problem is my 4.8 with 438,000 kilometres on runs fine when cold and you could drive to China and back like a new truck as long as you don’t shut her off. If you do, when you start her up again she runs like crap. Engine light flashing the works, rough idle, running really rich. Only trick I found to help get rid of it is to shut her down while I’m driving under load, throw her in to neutral and start her up again and drop her back down to drive. Works most times. Changed out spark plugs and new coils just recently, any ideas please

    • @FantasyCustoms4Life
      @FantasyCustoms4Life  3 года назад

      @ Jeremy L - there’s going to be gas in those lines when you remove them. The injectors will fire under pressure but will not remove all the fuel from the lines. You may have bled off the fuel pressure from unplugging the relay and cranking/touching the shrader valve but there’s still a volume of fuel in the lines thats not going to move anywhere until the line is undone to leak out. If it keeps pouring out fuel and will not stop then you likely would have a fuel pump/check valve problem. Yes the 2020 is going to look somewhat different than this 99-07 style but it’s basicly the same process like I said. Thanks

    Hey great video. Just have a question, before I go about changing this fuel injector should I first start the truck and then pull the fuse associated with the fuel injector? I have seen another similar video where they did just that but I don't want to go do something that could further hurt my truck. 2010 GMC Sierra 5.3. Thanks definitely subscribing.

    • @FantasyCustoms4Life
      @FantasyCustoms4Life  5 лет назад +2

      I have never heard of just pulling the fuse. I imagine if you only pull the fuse you will actually turn off all the fuel injectors or fuel pump or whatever the fuse feeds power to. You could however unplug the fuel injector on the cylinder you believe is the culprit without harming the truck pretty quick and easy. Unplugging a single injector will cut fuel off to that cylinder. A common way to check if a cylinder is not firing or locating a misfire on an older motor without the computer telling you where to look is I would unplug spark plug wires one at a time until you find the one that doesn’t make it start missing more (running worse and lower rpm) then you know that cylinder is not firing. So basicly if you unplug it an there is no change you know there is something wrong with that cylinder and needs diagnoses of what’s stopping it. Thanks for the question and good luck.

    • @FantasyCustoms4Life
      @FantasyCustoms4Life  3 года назад

      @ Jed MeltonMusic - yes if it is holding pressure like it should there will be some gas. I just throw a rag around it when opening it and that should get most of it but you could try to bleed some off the valve first I never do though.

Now my OBD scanner read 2 new codes. PO107 and P0200 fuel injectors circuit open. I tried everything and still could not regain my power. Having a misfiring problem sometimes when I take off in my '04 Silverado 1500 LS... It has 125,000 miles. Gotta take my foot off the gas and hit it again in order for the engine to smooth back out. If I don't take my foot off the gas while it's running ruff, the check engine light will blink numerous times then stay on.

      +231MasseyFerguson I talk in the video about the codes coming up and then reading them, it giving me the cylinder number and or a random misfire code. hearing the truck misfire as well and feeling the power loss. hoping that the obd2 gives you a cylinder number to look at you can swap coils and wires with a different cylinder to see if the problem follows. If that doesnt show then swap injectors to see if the problem follows the injector. you can also do a compression and leak down test on the culprit cylinder.

I've had a few stuck pretty good just like you're talking about. To stop the fuel from spraying out you can press the bleeder valve in on the rail under the plastic cap to relieve the pressure. Some will still come out but it will be okay just wipe it up if you're worried prolly have a cigarette in your mouth ffs. Good luck!

    I got an 04 silverado 5.3L and its got a p0300 reading. It seems to skip around 1500 rpms at around 45-55mph in a slight incline but the check engine only comes on once in awhile while its doing it and then shuts off farely quickly. Been getting worse and have poor gas milage. Cannot seem to pinpoint the problem changed the wires and plugs but found it weird that it only does it around that rpm and speed. hard to pinpoint then but you can try things like check out your fuel pressure regulator, replace coils and spark plugs, and pull the injectors to see if they are clean or dirty. if any of the injectors are really dirty then replace that injector.

Also you could take a compression reading on that cylinder to make sure the inside of the motor is healthy. • @FantasyCustoms4Life
      @FantasyCustoms4Life  7 лет назад

      What people do to cure them varys from how dirty they are. You may be able to get away with doing a motor flush followed by an oil and filter change. What I do for a motor flush is remove about 1-3 quarts of motor oil and then add transmission fluid back in whatever you removed to get the oil level full again, then run the motor at idle for about 5 minutes and drain out and do oil and filter change and see how it sounds. Other people use kerosene instead of transmission fluid some like to use the store bought stuff which is mostly just kerosene or use mmo which is basicly trans fluid with some slippery additive. If that doesn't work then you have to go a step further removing your valve cover and using a heavy cleaning agent like sea foam or b-Chem tool and spray down the top of your push rods and let them soak, even better to remove push rods clean oil from them and then spray down them. Lastly if nothing works remove your cylinder head and replace lifter.

    • @FantasyCustoms4Life

      That code is fuel trim balance bank 2. You very well could have a stuck injector or something faulty with your injectors possibly. Bank 2 is referring to the passenger side cylinders of the engine. To smell fuel would indicate a possible leak so be on the lookout for any fuel leaks anywhere, or a possible stuck injector supplying too much fuel could be the reason for smelling fuel as well.
