YOU GUYS! I just realized today's upload marks my 1 year anniversary of starting youtube!!!!!! What an incredible year developing my career and finding a supportive community of artist around me. Sending Love!
I actually love the nose he painted-- obviously not realistic, but it looked like it could have been made by a famous impressionist artists. Amazing job, Cuyler!!
His is "flat" because lack of color variety and shading. The shape he was going for is relatively the same as her's since they were referencing the same photo.
oil painters never fail to impress me. I'm a watercolorist and I often hear that watercolor is the hardest medium to work with, but good god...oil and acrylic are impossible for me.
for some reason.. She sounds like a woman from a plane telling what to do when a plane is going to crash 😂😂😂 edit: damn you guys still loving this comment from 3 years ago and even Robin loving my comment xD hope y'all having a great day o/
Great video! Short note though: Dry brushing generally refers to the application of paint using a dry brush with some small amount paint still on it rather than blending with a clean brush. This creates scratchy marks and can be used in scumbling, making a broken layer of paint over and existing one.
Nah I'm pretty sure that blurring is blurring and dry brushing is dry brushing, no matter what painting medium we're talking about. The fact is that the technique exists in all the paint I've used, most notably acrylics, so there's no reason that there wouldn't be a name for it.
I am so happy that I stumbled across this tutorial! I love the fast pace and straight forward instructions without a whole bunch of crap that is good to know and I SHOULD know…but don’t HAVE to know to paint the thing that I want to paint! I’ve been skimming videos for about an hour now and this is the first one I’ve actually watched all the way to the end. Thank you for being what I need!
I miss your chickens. 💚 I have been painting for nearly 20 years now, but always used turpentine and oils to thin my paint, so learned something new today. Thanks Robin 😘
me too ): Theres a house across the street from my apartment that has chickens and I'm secretly plotting trying to get on their good side and whether that would be too weird of me to approach them just for their chickens....
I am predominantly a digital artist, but i always go back to these basics for digital painting! also, im a weenie and can't commit. I NEED MY UNDO BUTTON.
Is it weird that I finding painting easier than digital art? I'm a beginner artist at both. I suck at coloring digitally so I just mostly sketch, painting in person is where I enjoy blending.
Oil painting is so amazing and you make it look so easy! I want to start oil painting at some point but I'm still learning the basics with acrylics. Great video!
This was an inspired tutorial in so many ways. Cuyler was very brave and did well considering it was only his second shot at painting. Great job, thank you for sharing.
I prefer the nose that he painted. Although both of them are great but his painting just gives vintage like vibes and it’s just wonderful. There’s no rules for art, just enjoy it draw it with your beautiful mind and vision.❤️
I'm sure that somewhere in all these comments this has already been said - but what a good sport your Cuyler is. I hope you gave him extra scooby snacks that day. Way to go Cuyler!
He did a fantastic job!! It looks like a stylized choice rather than a mistake. I would never have guess that this was his second time painting! I’m shook! He has clear natural talent☺️ Great video!! Thank you for sharing your knowledge! New sub!
aogaret awad it works with any kinda paint so long as the paint hasn't dried yet ! (so basically it could work with acryllic you just gotta work real quick fast)
You can add paint thinners/solvents to acrylic, which makes it dry slower, or add water which will give a more watercoloury look but will blend easier. Oil is probably a better medium for smooth realistic paintings, but i think using acrylic to make layered, kind of patchy paintings looks really cool too.
First: Both are great! Second: you have right that your picture of nose is more realistic's but IT'S ONLY "WAY" HOW ARTIST WILL DRAW A PICTURE... IN PAST OF TIME AT PICASO TO REMBRANT AND OTHER ARTIST WAS CHANGE A WAY ... "HOW WE CAN DRAW " " WHAT IS THE MOST REALISTIC AND WHAT NO" ? "CAN IT BE BETTER"? THIRD: YOUR PICTURES ARE DEFINITLY TO WAY Realistic, Its absolutly And we cant say nothing ! BUT IT'S STUPID, STUPID WRITE HEAD ARTICLES WHAT WE DO'S AND DON'TS IT CAN BE ONLY FOR RECOMMEND FOR OTHER PEOPLE, BUT IT IS ONLY UP WHAT WE CHOOSE A WAY OF DRAWING AND ART. THNX
*just* started testing out my brand new oil paints (I'm a portrait artist in ink and watercolour, but brand new to oils) so dead excited to see your oil painting tutorials. Learning to control a completely different medium is going to take some time! thanks for your tutes!
I've been drawing people almost my entire life and recently wanted to get into painting. I struggle most with skin tones and how to properly blend. So I will definitely be watching more of your videos! This was great!
Oh my, if there was something that I needed help with in getting it right this part of the anatomy was it. My attempt at drawing a nose is in the same skill level as your assistant Cuyler. Your skill level is quite impressive, and I hope I can develop the eye and ear of what this video is offering to improve my drawing abilities. Otherwise I’ll be resorting to those scenarios in the intro. Thanks for sharing you talent.
this was a great dos and don'ts because his painting wasn't as cartoonishly bad as most dos and donts videos go for (on lots of different channels) and it looked like something I might actully end up with myself. big props and thanks to her husband for being a willing "don't" example!
This is my first time viewing one of your videos and I loved it! Your voiceover is a perfect mix of info and humor, and spot on with what you're actually doing in the video. Thank you!!
wow just wow! What a great ''tutorial''! It was quite quick I'd say but you gave some tips I did not even know! I wanted to go back to painting so I think I found a youtuber to follow for that!
Great video, first time seeing the channel. Excellent pacing, very informative, and covered several important points without laboring over them too much. Plus, amazing art! Very enjoyable.
I love every single one of your videos! They are funny, informative, and easy to attempt. It definitely encouraged me in my creative process & journey. Sending love and light from Toronto
YOU GUYS! I just realized today's upload marks my 1 year anniversary of starting youtube!!!!!! What an incredible year developing my career and finding a supportive community of artist around me. Sending Love!
Robin Clonts congratulations!!! And thank you for all the hilarious and informative videos :D
Robin Clonts YAY
Love you Robin! I found you some months ago and I'm not sorry I did :D
Robin Clonts YAYAYAY
So you got 100.000 subs in one year? that's awesome! how I wish I had a successful channel like yours😅
I actually love the nose he painted-- obviously not realistic, but it looked like it could have been made by a famous impressionist artists. Amazing job, Cuyler!!
straberryshinigami15 it's a great stylized nose, just not a great realism one
it also looks like the head of a penis
Jasmin Ok not everyones nose looks like the one she made some people have noses look more like his if they are flatter..hers looked soo pointy
Tyla Z but his also had the wrong colours
His is "flat" because lack of color variety and shading. The shape he was going for is relatively the same as her's since they were referencing the same photo.
oil painters never fail to impress me. I'm a watercolorist and I often hear that watercolor is the hardest medium to work with, but good god...oil and acrylic are impossible for me.
haha thats how i feel about watercolor so it's appropriate
Robin Clonts watercolor seems so meticulous, I need to have room for error!
Nah boi watercolor is super hard ahhh
faroshscale Depends on the person
Same here bro
Anyone else who think noses are way harder than eyes
SylenKune i had to paint valak from conjuring 2 to fully understand noses lol.
SylenKune hey I am subbed to you! what are the chances!
SylenKune Yup.
Toby Training Awesome! :D
SylenKune 😁
for some reason.. She sounds like a woman from a plane telling what to do when a plane is going to crash 😂😂😂

Don't forget the "meanwhile, enjoy some tunes. Do do Doo~"
There is two exits here, there's a man down there point at the other two exits!
lol
welp you ruined the video for me lmao

I absolutely suck at painting. I was apparently called the artsiest person in my class, though. Your videos help me A LOT.

It's paint, not draw.

Hands: yeah you’ve done this before!
Anxiety: hah.

I'm so impressed with your husbands nose.
My first nose-painting wasn't near as good his nose!
i was thinking his nose was really good and then yours was next to it and wow there is a huge difference. you are one good artist
U vs the guy she tells u not to worry about
Bru
That's why my girlfriend has to be lesbian and not bi
Hey Robin, can you maybe do a video on lips? I'm not the best at them. I would appreciate it. 😁
Just a whole person😂
Marie Bunker I'm sure she will, she did the eye tutorial, now the nose tutorial. Just wait a little bit
Flowered Sentiments where can I buy it?
I love how Cuyler is something like an attainable goal for some, more than a novice for others and how you both work together

HeavenlyBlade106 I think you mean in watercolors, dry brushing is a technique. in oils it's just a blending, blurring of hard edges
Nah I'm pretty sure that blurring is blurring and dry brushing is dry brushing, no matter what painting medium we're talking about. The fact is that the technique exists in all the paint I've used, most notably acrylics, so there's no reason that there wouldn't be a name for it.
You are correct HB.
I am so happy that I stumbled across this tutorial! I’ve been skimming videos for about an hour now and this is the first one I’ve actually watched all the way to the end. Thank you for being what I need!
Pro tip: use an upside down number 7 for the nose and label the painting as “contemporary.” It’s a real time saver.
Brush grip is epic. Never seen an artist holding brush like this.
I've noticed that they also seem to hold it in the palm of the hand as for me I grip it like pencil , perhaps that's where I'm going wrong lol!
I miss your chickens. 💚 I have been painting for nearly 20 years now, but always used turpentine and oils to thin my paint, so learned something new today. Thanks Robin 😘

thank you!!
Subbed. I love an art tutorial with a sense of humour.
Oil painting is so amazing and you make it look so easy! I want to start oil painting at some point but I'm still learning the basics with acrylics. Great video!
i feel like his nose is super artistic, or a certain style. I personally loved it!
This was an inspired tutorial in so many ways.
Cuyler was very brave and did well considering it was only his second shot at painting.
Great job, thank you for sharing.
Actually gives me hardcore impressionist vibes. I’m super into this
omg watching you paint is so satisfying
hahaha was expecting hoodie even after the intro
I prefer the nose that he painted. Although both of them are great but his painting just gives vintage like vibes and it’s just wonderful. There’s no rules for art, just enjoy it draw it with your beautiful mind and vision.❤️

She makes it look so easy!
WOOOO I LOVE U ROBIN! YOUR AN AWESOME ARTIST
That drybrushing really brings it together, its a fantastic technique
I'm terrible at drawing noses, and I'm not a huge realism person, so it's sorta realistic but then again it looks amateurish.
DrizzlyDonut I anima so yeah
My noses are terrible
Funny that your Pic is your nose 🙃
Your nose looks way more real than both of their noses 🤙
That first nose is why I am here!
I really love your husbands painting! It’s obviously more Impressionism. But that’s one of my favorite styles. But Both are great .
I dabble in the digital medium and I love how this tutorial translates from traditional to digital media.
DAAAMN YOURE SO GOOD
Thank you so much for all explanations. Those are so clear that I love them
Well I wouldn't say his is worse.... his is just a different way of looking at it.
He did a fantastic job!! It looks like a stylized choice rather than a mistake. I would never have guess that this was his second time painting! I’m shook! He has clear natural talent☺️
Great video!! Thank you for sharing your knowledge! New sub!
OMG I litarlly started drawing and then saw that you uploaded a video (i draw with a pencil but still)😂😂
Great Video! Thank you so much your Videos help me to get even better😄💫

I am huge fan of you and your painting.i am so glad for finding you in you tube. You are a great teacher for painting learners......Thanku mam....

You are a great teacher and give great tips! Thanks so much for your channel!!
Can also use the dry brush to blend acrylic colours?
you*
This was a fantastic tutorial. It made it so much easier to see what I was doing wrong
would the dry brush work the same with acrylic ?
since it drys faster ,and if it dosint work what can i do to get that smooth look ?
aogaret awad it works with any kinda paint so long as the paint hasn't dried yet !
I think with acrylics, I would be a lot harder and would have to be done straight after you put it on hehe
WONDERFUL!!! Olga! Hope you do a lesson like this!!!!
Missed opportunity to called it "nose and no-nose of painting noses"
That dry-brushing step was like a magic trick!
