When Disney only has 2 successful moneymaking movies in 2024, they are desperate to grab cash where they can. Deadpool and Wolverine and Inside Out 2 EACH separately made a billion dollars. Otherwise... because they chose a specific formula in every single movie both live and animated that sneaks messaging in vs entertainment they have become a flop factory and laughing stock. They could have easily justified the sister's existence if the villain kidnapped her. BOOM sister is relevant and there is stakes to the adventure. Just fixed the movie
What’s interesting is, the original came out the same year as Zootopia. Zootopia made more at the box office, and won the Animated Feature Oscar over MOANA… yet MOANA is the one that’s gone on to be more popular with families as one of this generation’s new Disney classics, while sadly no one talks about Zootopia anymore. I mean, Zootopia is getting its sequel next year, and I’m DESPERATELY hoping that’s better than I’m hearing this is. I guess we’ll have to see how it shakes out.
Because Moana 2016 had amazing songs and music which helped made it more memorable. If Zootopia was a musical I would have seen it becoming way more successful than Moana
Definitely agree with what the OP said. Moana is an amazing movie but I like Zootopia more and I really wanted a sequel for that. So I am glad a sequel is made and I REALLY hope it doesn't end up like this. If this had more time to breathe & play out, I think it would've been near perfect. It was certainly too safe as you said Sean, but for a world this beautiful & enjoyable, I didnt have a huge problem with that. But ya, just too rushed overall, but still so beyond gorgeous & cute

@SeanChandlerTalksAbout I enjoyed the first Moana and am excited for this one however, that was my main concern was would all the extra characters that were added in when it was being developed as a Disney+ TV series going to be too surface level and focus more on Moana and Maui going on an adventure like the first film and it sounds like it’s a fun time but, it definitely sounds like all those extra characters could have been chopped out of the script to tighten it up a bit for a movies run time after changing it from a series about a year ago but, it still sounds fun
Great review man! Was gonna go to the advanced screening last night but ended up seeing it earlier today. Agree with everything you said. It’s not great, not bad, just fine. Felt like something was missing. 👊🔥
I took my daughter to see this and she loved it. I thought it was good, but definitely falls short of the original. The songs are okay, the only standout for me being Beyond. The characters were fun, really loved Moana and Maui. The beginning and end were the strongest parts of the film and Moans's little sister stole every scene she was in
My word would be “underwhelmed“. The movie looked beautiful visually and the animators did their thing! The facial expressions throughout the movie popped. And the music was much better in Moana 1.
I do plan on seeing it on Black Friday. I went to see wish on Black Friday last year as well. I hope this movie is better and more fun. I kind of fell asleep a little bit during wish last year.
I love the first film, but this is probably not one I’m going to rush out and see. I’m most likely going to take my parents to see Wicked which I have already seen. Btw, have you seen Arcane Sean? Would love to hear your thoughts.
My Granddaughter went to see this last night. She said it's OK but not nearly as good as Moana. She also said the music wasn't as good either. But Moana was a great movie so I'm not surprised part 2 isn't as good.
It pains me that Moana didn’t win the Oscar back in 2016 over Zootopia, yet that pain pales in comparison to this… I don’t even know what to call this movie.
I just saw Moana 2 and I agree with all three points people are saying. The movie was just okay/mid. I think you should still go see it. Songs aren’t as great as the first one. I think what made my experience worse was I had girls sitting next to me goofing around hitting each other, on their phones, talking during the movie. It was so god damn annoying. I had to shush them and tell them to stop and they got all pissed off at me. This is why people don’t like going to the movie theaters anymore because people like that ruin the experience.
I personally loved it.A huge step up from the first movie story wise.I agree the songs were not memorable so in terms of songs the first movie still wins.I saw it in 4dx 3D an man o man those visuals had me stunned.Didnt take off my glasses once.8/10 movie.I might see it again 😊
Would you say its better than Kung Fu Panda 4 or not ? Both got similar reviews even though I personally think KFP4 is a great mocie. Just curious. I think this is a Venom 3 situation where its better than the last few stuff we have getting from the studio but also not enough to get it back on top.
You bet kung fu panda 4 is great don't care what anybody says Zhen is more memorable than moana's crew and her pointless sister wouldn't be surprised if mtangi or nalo aren't as good the chameleon or Proximus caesar from kingdom of the planet of the apes But they'll never be as good as Big Jack Horner nor Death
@@AnujChatterjee-q5b Not yet I am expecting it to better than strange world, wish, and despicable me 4 but that's not saying much I'm not expecting something amazing from it just good.
@AnujChatterjee-q5b Saw Moana 2 even though it was pretty good let's just say Kung fu panda 4 is better and the chameleon is better than matangi and nalo (who's design sucks compare to the chameleon)
Moana deserved better, I absolutely adore the first one. There were some story elements especially in the third act where I really like where a potential third movie can go. But the lead up to it was just meh. Definitely better than Disney animations recent offerings. But a big step down from the first for sure.
I absolutely love the first Moana and yet after a lot of thinking I've decided I'm not bothered about seeing it in theatres unless I hear amazing things about it. I've seen the trailers so many times and there is still nothing in the trailers that hooked me at all. I didn't even understand what the story was about and the overall set up, premise and humour just felt a lot more generic and predictable. Tbh if just feels unnecessary and you can certainly feel the fact that this was converted into a movie
Like Pixar, Disney animation studios has not been the same since John lasseter left (he overaw Zootoipia, Moana, Big Hero 6, Wreck it Ralph, Frozen), The only good Disney animation movie (not pixar) since Frozen 2, is Ecanto)
I predict this will have a big opening 5 day thanksgiving opening, based on goodwill, sucess of the first movie on Disney+. However, given, the songs are not as good for this sequel (a big reson the first one conitbues to be a streaming hit), and the consensus the movie is fairly bland. I predict it will not have great legs. Especially given Wicked was so well received and a lot of familes might wait for streaming if they hear this movie is just medicore. I dont think this movie will be critic proof like a Minons movie..
The last well recevied Disney animated movie that also made money (excluding Pixar) was Frozen 2, 5 yaars ago, as enchanto did not perform at the box office. It sounds like this run will continue. I guess this is why he head of Disney Animation stepped down this year (espeically with the flops strange world and wish)
@@giuliopianese6690 agree, but it is not a great movie. So the last great disney animated movie that also did well was still frozen 2 (or maybe even the last moana as a lot of people think frozen 2 is just ok, and wreck it ralph 2 was not that good either)
I was sadly very disappointed by this film. Everything that I loved about the first film felt absent, the new characters were forgettable and even the story felt lacking to me. I just couldn’t get on board for the journey beyond the reef this time.
@@MichaelTomsyck Hmm, I'm assuming it's gonna be Mufasa then. I don't see Paramount managing to get a screening for Sonic 3 before it, especially when it's going up against Disney.
This movie reeks of Disney only using what’s already been successful to be successful. They’ve already done it to another movie this year and they will do it again in the next couple years. They are very afraid to do anything new and be profitable.
1) they have been doing new things for three years. 2) the new animation has difficulties. In 5 years only two original animated films have exceeded 300 million (Elemental and the Wild Robor), and only Elemental 400, and given that Disney films cost 150/200 million takings on 250 are not enough for them. Even dreamworks doesn't do well when they make new things, the difference is that the films cost a lot less.
U know what I just got done watching it And I got to say it’s a worthy sequel to the original what’s to hate here The songs were not as good as the original I loved Beyond and can I get a little CEO who! Also they tease a third one
Sounds like this movie is very mid and is like those direct to DVD sequels that Disney made in the 2000s and doesn't even come close to being as good as the original. I'm perfectly fine with having seen only the first movie which is 1 of their best films of the last 10 years and is endlessly rewatchable. If I ever feel like watching this sequel, I'll just save my money and maybe watch it on Disney+ and not waste $15 and gas money going to the theater for something like this, but most likely I won't ever care enough to watch it in all honesty.
I really couldnt get over the slapstick theme of thos film. I wanted more of the first film and this isnt it. The backgrounds of most of the shots don't look good to me. The charachters movement feels like a TV show
I don’t find that to be the case at all, on average. He’s just sharing his honest opinion, and he’s not going to balance out positives and negatives just for the sake of it. Some films will be weighted heavily positive. Some will be weighted heavily negative.
Either Sean has more notes than usual or I just don't normally notice but his eyes darting everywhere is distracting me so much lol. Like he's not talking to me but rather talking as he's focused on something else 😅😅
My goodness! Read Joseph Campbell, young people… “Hero with a Thousand Faces”. This film honors the Polynesian/Pacific Islander traditions & adheres to the classic mythological & archetypal storytelling structure inherent to all human societies throughout history. Wake up!!!
Moana is the best Disney film since 90’s Disney by a mile - Wreck it Ralph is fucking terrible (bar the pop culture references… it’s awful). Moana 2 just won’t be as good - it was never going to be as good because of the budget, the duo hired to make the music, the department who made the studio… it designed to be in a TV budget. But I bet it will still be better than Wreck It Ralph…

The last well recevied Disney animated movie that also made money (excluding Pixar) was Frozen 2, 5 yaars ago, as enchanto did not perform at the box office. It sounds like this run will continue.
I guess this is why he head of Disney Animation stepped down this year (espeically with the flops strange world and wish)
this movie will do great at the box office
@@giuliopianese6690 agree, but it is not a great movie. So the last great disney animated movie that also did well was still frozen 2 (or maybe even the last moana as a lot of people think frozen 2 is just ok, and wreck it ralph 2 was not that good either)
@@jim1242 Haven't seen it but I am keeping my expectations low I do like me some more pua though
I was sadly very disappointed by this film. Everything that I loved about the first film felt absent, the new characters were forgettable and even the story felt lacking to me. I just couldn’t get on board for the journey beyond the reef this time.
I have no problems with the review, but I'm pretty sure there's no such word as "swang."
Hey Sean, just curious, which movie are you planning on seeing first? Sonic 3 or Mufasa?
It’ll be whichever pressing screening is before the other. It’d be very foolish to schedule them both on the same night.
@@MichaelTomsyck Hmm, I'm assuming it's gonna be Mufasa then. I don't see Paramount managing to get a screening for Sonic 3 before it, especially when it's going up against Disney.
Can I get a cheehoo
I still enjoyed movie, about as much as the youngest of the girls in the video
This movie reeks of Disney only using what’s already been successful to be successful. They’ve already done it to another movie this year and they will do it again in the next couple years. They are very afraid to do anything new and be profitable.
Inside out 2 was actually a necessary sequel to make
1) they have been doing new things for three years.
I don't blame them. They've been doing originals for both Pixar and Disney that haven't done well at the box office in the past 5 years
U know what I just got done watching it
And I got to say it’s a worthy sequel to the original what’s to hate here
The songs were not as good as the original I loved Beyond and can I get a little CEO who!
The charachters movement feels like a TV show
So sequels are the way to go? Okay then, but original stories needed more respect.
Sadly, a lot of original films don't get the respect they deserve, and shallow sequels outshine them in the box office all the time.
Does the king reply
He does indeed
Why Sean always has more negative on movies than positives 😂
I don’t find that to be the case at all, on average. He’s just sharing his honest opinion, and he’s not going to balance out positives and negatives just for the sake of it. Some films will be weighted heavily positive. Some will be weighted heavily negative.
What did you expect? Disney hasnt made a great movie in years
Cool
In my opinion Moana two is better than the dirts Moana
Either Sean has more notes than usual or I just don't normally notice but his eyes darting everywhere is distracting me so much lol. Like he's not talking to me but rather talking as he's focused on something else 😅😅
My goodness! Read Joseph Campbell, young people… “Hero with a Thousand Faces”. This film honors the Polynesian/Pacific Islander traditions & adheres to the classic mythological & archetypal storytelling structure inherent to all human societies throughout history. Wake up!!!
Give me a break no f ing way would I even think about seeing this. I dont pay for cartoons lmao
Another totally unnecessary sequel.
For me it felt like a direct to dvd sequel, but with a larger budget than Disney’s past ones.
I’d rather see wicked this week, but I think my family gonna lean more towards this. That’s cool too though
Honestly this movie looks like it basically does the same stuff as the first movie, which isn't bad but not very interesting
Is this a film review or a mission statement? Dude, you go on and on and on repeating the same point. You could of shaved 12 minutes off this video 😴
