Fusion isn't always about romantical attraction or sexual attraction. It's about a deep connection, so peridot being aroace may take away many reasons to fuse for her but doesn't mean she'll never fuse. Steven fused with amethyst because of their friendship, same goes with Rainbow Quartz 2.0 and Sunstone. Also Steven and Greg fuse in the movie. some gems fused because of hatred, like bluebird. So yeah, not totally

Fusion is supposed to represent some sort of relationship. It could be for strength, for show, or for love. Technically, what lapis went through was domestic abuse. The amount of trauma in something like that can really take a toll on someone's mental health.
if we take that fusion is supposed to represent a romantic relationship i feel like lapis and peridot would be in a type of aroace relationship with lapis not necessarily being aromantic but definitely romance averse meaning that she's repulsed by the idea of personally being in a romantic relationship (fusing) which to her is due to the trauma and abuse she experienced in her previous romantic relationships (malachite)

The fact that Peridot gets on Lapis’ shoulders is both very attentive (with Peridot being aroace and additionally averse to- and I’m pretty sure being unable to- fuse, and Lapis having the whole Malachite thing) and very funny. What makes it funnier is that they both dab immediately beforehand.
