I played this track with studio musicians whom I worked with in Muscle Shoals, Alabama when I had relocated to Houston with my first wife and began playing drums again following our divorce. I worked with Russ Zavitson at his studio booking the date and he got me Steve Nathan on keyboards, John Willis on guitar, and Steve Chapman on bass. Steve Nathan wrote charts for everyone from cassettes I sent to him. We did covers of Glen Frey,"I Found Somebody," Take 5 from Bad Benson with Steve Gadd on drums, " You Don't Know Me, " by Kenny Loggins, and, "Stranger In My House, " by Ronnie Milsap. I used this for a demo tape, and everyone I ever played it for, gave me the gig. I went back to college in Florida, and I played this cassette at the local music store over the store's speaker system, and an employee there was the guitar instructor at IRCC and offered me an audition with the fusion band he was with, Dave Hanson and Malibu. They gave me tracks by various jazz, funk, swing,and contemporary jazz artists such as Chic Correa and Larry Carlton. I played drums for my church and had a key, so I went to the church with my cassette and player, and practiced on headphones until the tracks were almost second nature. I got the gig and that allowed me to bring in extra money to the family, my wife and son, Dylan.
I love this tune, as well. My late cousin use to do studio-work with him and one of his brothers on occasion. I love Gadd too, but Porcaro was a fine percussionist, as well.
Of course Jeff Porcaro sounds like himself. Friggin duh! I was referring to the way he plays at 1:21 of this song and again at 3:31. Porcaro said that he was an admirer of Gadd. If you were a drummer back then how could you not be? And being the ultimate pro that Jeff Porcaro was, he could easily incorporate some Gadd-isms into his playing and still sound like himself.
Not that ww to the beach, was ever this 'smart,' lol... good attempt tho', lol :*) My co-worker pal Mary, used to tell people to, 'Get over yourself...' lol ♡ (cuz, i'd choose a flip-flop over that totally uncomfortable, great-looking sandal anyday, & my really smart dog would need a place to sit, lol♡) It's just that men are 'preoccupied,' with 'love,' & everything has to conform to 'all of it'... If, anyone ever asked me, that's what i'd say about a great sounding-song, like this one. (But no one ever DID !!! lol♡) I liked 'jazz' & 'ambient,' b/c the sounds made it so i could conform only to my own mind, which, as it turned out, was pretty good... Good enough to make a dent in everything goin' down thee'ssseee proverbial 'rabbiddd holes,' any-who... ♡ (i don't really mean anything by saying this, it's just i prefer friendship, to games, or anything else, is all. Always sought that, new school every year, as it went. Kept 'the void,' open in me, like these songs do.♡) The L.A. Jeff Porcaro sounds sort of Steve Gadd-esque on this track. Beautiful stuff. This is ear candy of the best kind.
Jeff sounded like Steve Gadd in all tracks! I actually thought it was him before I read that it is Porcaro at the drum kit.
First time I heard this track I thought it was Gadd but didn't mind seeing it was the great Porcaro. This is the best track on the album. RIP Jeff
