Could listen to Gary for ages
I think him and Carra work well together.. i find listening to them on there own starts to annoy me, Gary squeaky voice, and Carra that noise he makes before every sentance-- least when they are together it breaks up the noises
If United didn't want him he would've played for any of those teams for money just like he's doing now.
@@nigget-tv-videos4135 actually I prefer these one on ones. They seem to let their guard down a bit more compared to the studio which I think grts a bit repetetive and stiff after a while. These chats are getting pretty interesting hearing about the little details on players, contract dealings, training etc during their careers, especially if you grew up in that era. Would love to hear more anecdotes on some more of what went on inside those fergie years.
Your easly pleased 😌
Slot a 2 pound coin inbetween his eye brows and he'll start talking football... Just so you know how to get him going.
All these comments saying “we didn’t want you” no offers came in for you” have very short term memories.. he is one the best most consistent RBs England and the premier league has ever seen yes certain players may have had a better season then Neville but for absolute consistently for over a decade nobody comes close to Neville and I’m a Newcastle fan who hates Man Utd and especially Neville and Roy Keane but your Beckhams and Ronaldos of this world would of been exposed without a Neville behind them to defend and overlap to create space for them
I’d take the counsel of Sir Alex Ferguson over some people commenting on a RUclips video.
I fully agree, he's a good defender.
I support Manchester United and would rather have Wan Bissaker but Neville was good, a long term replacement for Paul Parker
@@jamiesimms7084 neville could cross a ball, bissaka isn't there yet. Neville head and shoulders above bissaka. Come back in ten or 15 years and we can properly discuss this
@@aarononeill3 I don't need to come back in any amount of years. I like Neville but would prefer Wan Bissaker even though he still has to prove himself through time. I'm fully aware of Gary Neville's credentials thank you very much as I am aware of Wan Bissaker's, whose forward play isn't as bad as some would make you believe. I believe he is/will be the best right back in Manchester United's history. Yes I said it. Unless you call Cristiano a full back or you're including Duncan Edwards.
I'm also going to go out on a limb and say Bruno will have the impact and allure of Cantona with the style, formidability and effort of Robson and an influence similar to both.
Neville was a hard working player in a great team. He didn't have much ability he just had a strong work ethic and always gave 100%. He definitely wasn't the best right back in the premier league. And before anyone says I'm a Man Utd supporter
There’s no one in football that I think I could listen to for 40 minutes and still want more. I find it fascinating listening to someone who was a huge part of the most dominating team in premier league history at, in my opinion, the greatest period in the leagues history.
Giggsy is a great listen aswell.
Yeah,i thought to listen for few minutes, but now at 25' still listening..
Get his slosh out ur mouth Jesus.

Imagine playing for the club you grow up loving, winning everything in sight and having any reason to move on 🤷♀️
Beckham went on to play for Real Madrid, AC Milan, PSG and LA Galaxy .. With all that experience, he now owns his own football club that he has built from scratch in one of the most prestigious regions in the world .. i would say thats a fairly good reason
@@JackLawrence20 prestigious? Salford is more prestigious than Miami

@@JackLawrence20 I'm not joking lol
That's why Ronaldo will never be a true red. People say you have to switch clubs to prove yourself. That's so wrong football is about loyalty. You don't need to switch your nation to prove yourself in another country's national team. Since then I always have supported Messi and I wish he played for us.
I know Gary can poke fun of himself because he's achieved everything he could have in club football, but there are many younger folks that have not seen him play. He was exceptionally consistent at a high enough level. He had all round good technique in all departments, defending, throw-ins, crossing, and reading the game. People especially forget how decent he was at crossing because Beckham in front of him. He was tenacious, hardworking, and a leader. Bravo to you Gary for being so humble.

@@RealistGunner which litteraly has no correlation to his comment
@@RealistGunner the point isn't about stating facts. Everyone knows ashley Cole was better than Gary. That's a simple fact.
The point is there was litteraly no reason for you to mention it. It shows your insecurity of yourself about your club to mention an arsenal player in a video about Gary. If anything, you're incompetent for not understanding your comment has zero correlation to his
@@RealistGunner and I can state facts too btw, you're 9th
Gary wasn’t even a left back he was a right back
i think Gary has always acknowledged that what he lacked in talent, he made up for in hardwork, a strong winning mentality, tactical astuteness and passion for the club. People overlook these factors, but you can tell from the way he speaks, that he was crucial in that United dressing room, and fundamental to the club's success during their heyday.
All the traits needed to be a great manager.
@@shanginadildo Not necessarily for a manager per se, but it was crucial for Manchester United's peak trophy winning period as a player and part of the squad in my opinion.
As a Newcastle fan you can tell now when he looks at our club he feels the same level of disgust as we do... Carra doesn't get it but Neville always has, he looked at us once and saw what a great club we could be, likewise with Villa, it's a shame we both find ourselves in the states we are now.
We both were big clubs, where did it all go wrong

Carra has mentioned the fall of Liverpool during the 90s, it’s cyclical. If the foundation is in place and the support is there, it’s just a matter of when Newcastle rise again.
Newcastle can't compete and keep up with the big clubs in prem in terms financial standpoint. Once their golden era of Shearer ended they were never the same.
Gary has always been informative and honest. Even when he commentates on United games he is objective! Outstanding footballer and now Pundit / Personality.
Liverpool fan, from Liverpool. Always begrudgingly respected Ferguson's United. No begrudging when it comes to Neville. Love hearing him talk. 👍 Proper football man.
Who cares?
@@sratus Well, apparently you care enough to comment. Does that answer your ridiculous question?
Found a new word to use🤣
@@alexpaylor1365 very well said.
Neville was an outstanding right back. He was very good defensively but he was also a really good attacking right back, which often gets overlooked because of the players he had operating in front of him on the right hand side. He formed a great partnership with David Beckham. Beckham would often look for the early cross. It was one touch (if that) and bang, on to the head of the striker and he also had Neville to overlap him and provide another option. Neville was actually a really good crosser of the ball too so when players looked to try to stop Beckham getting his signature cross in, Neville would be open and could deliver a great ball too.
When Ronaldo came in you really saw the best of Neville's work ethic and determination. Because Ronaldo would drift inside, particularly in his last few seasons at the club, and wouldn't track back as much, Neville had to effectively operate as a wing back, running up and down the touchline to provide a crossing threat and hurrying back to defend when they lost the ball.
There were a number of great right backs in world football during Neville's playing days and I'd put him right up there as one of the best. To this day I think he's the best right back of the Premier League era.
We only realised just how good he was after he retired. I would say we hadn’t replaced him properly until wan-bissaka joined last summer.
Give it a few years first for Bissaka. Easy to judge after one season. Remember Gary actually described Darmian as a better version of himself when he initially signed. That didn't quite work. Not actually his fault IMO he didnt get a good run at right back to prove himself and get momentum. But I do like Wan Bissaka, early signs are good.
Wes Brown did alright especially in 07/08, Rafael was pretty good there also.
@@Mad_Intalect Wes Brown 'did alright there' pretty much sums up Wes at his best. He was lucky to be at United so long. Fergie did always give the youth a lot of loyalty.
Good lad, humble and a real top player in his day. Well done for helping out the NHS too with your hotels
Geoff is actually a pretty underrated interviewer
I suppose he has a catchprase attributed to him
Pretty clueless when it comes to facts though
He thought Mahrez was brought to Man City from abroad for a start, completely forgetting he won the league with Leicester a season previous
Overrated comment.
Great interview I was hooked throughout . Keep them coming skt and gary .
Gary Neville was what you call a proper traditional full back. He was a defender who was able to attack , not just only attack like some other defenders. Take notes girl.
Note that you said “traditional”. The position has changed and evolved. Get with the times.
NormalDude apart from the attack part
@@advenco344 The position has changed but they still have to be defenders by trade. Fullbacks that cant defend will be the reason teams lose big games and big competitions in the long term.

Really insightful view from a player's perspective on transfers. These offscripts with Gary Neville are class!
When Alex Ferguson kicked the boot at David Beckham eye, we saw that Beckham wasn't on the team sheet v Real madrid in 2003, I knew it was coming to an end. But then Cristiano Ronaldo came that 2003 summer and the rest is history.
I remember that being all over the media (as usual) and Becks sporting that stupid hair band to show off his war wound to the camera's.
@@pistonhedd Yep no doubt... But there were a lot of matches where Beckham was dropped.... I couldn't understand it at the time. But looking back now, do you remember Beckham jumping out of a challenge for England v Brazil 2002 World Cup which led to the equaliser... Beckham seemed to be more concerned about his brand than football it seemed. Alex Ferguson saw this and shot it down. When a player becomes bigger than the club Ferguson was done. Look at the problem Pogba is causing now because he's bigger than Man utd.
@die hard that would've been same story with ronaldo. He would have left on his prime to madrid.
Yeah, I remember us getting done by Arsenal in the FA Cup in early 2003, and Becks was at fault for one of the goals due to not tracking back in defence. Gaffer kicked a boot in anger afterwards.

Gary never seems bored. He must be sometimes, but the guy is professional beyond belief.
Neville gets slagged off yer has won so much as a player who played most games so it’s not like he was a squad player he was captain ffs

I'll never understand why english people never give these players any credit FFS and then any time any foreign average player comes to PL they suck him off typical english people behaviour guy played for 20 years as RB and probably top 5 in that time and people say oh he was ok
Brilliant interview. Really enjoyed that one
More I watch these videos of Gary Neville, the more I respect him and it shows how much love a player can give to one club
Mr reliable. Solid player and at his prime was one of the best RB in the world.
I agree. He was amongst the best due to his consistency and reliability. That was his strength
One of the greatest rbs of all time
Lol not even close
He’s more than a rb he’s a leader. There wasn’t a player that gave more effort than he did.
You're talking off all time??? Hahaha I can think of plenty more off the top of my head he might have cared a lot but he didn't have any where near enough quality as the best of all time
He's very slow no good going forward if we are talking 50 best right backs of all time Gary Neville is not one of them

Amazing video could listen to Gary forever! Geoff loves a tense whenever he thinks he might get shown on video 😂😂
Gary's got some rose tinted glasses when he talks about "the Man Utd conveyor belt" - very few youngsters brought through by Ferguson lasted past 25-26, then they were generally moved on and replaced with better players.
Only really Gary, Giggs and Scholes who made it right through from youth team to retirement - even Rooney who was there a long time was bought from another club, rather than being "homegrown" by the Utd youth system.
Ferguson was ruthless in that way, using young players to give energy to the team, and plug gaps when better players were rested / injured - but the key players the team relied on to give the quality needed to win trophies were mainly bought in after developing and building a reputation elsewhere.
It would be more accurate to say there were 2 conveyor belts and when a player reached their mid 20s they were assessed for ability to hold down a starting place, and more often than not they were moved on and a better replacement was added to the second conveyor belt to run through to retirement / moving abroad in their early 30s.
You know what I hope you don't get grief for this comment because at first I didn't agree but I see what you mean and it's very true absolutely spot on assesment that, there maybe a few exceptions someone will mention but still very true.
I can see some might think it's a criticism of Ferguson but it's not - he won everything and always kept a route for youth team players to get game time.
Neville is one of the few who actually made it all the way, but if he really looks at some of those players that came through after him, he'll see very few established themselves the way he did - his experience wasn't shared by many during Ferguson's time.
I actually think it's one of his greatest strengths as a manager - he never let the hype about "developing young players", or sentiment for those players, stand in the way of building a successful team and he always knew when to move players on and bring in quality.
He used young players to keep a certain level of hunger and energy about his team, but he always knew their limits and exactly how far they could take him on hunger and energy alone - and could see when those with more limited abilities were getting too old to offer the attributes he valued / needed in his squad.
G Nev is the perfect replacement if Gary Linekar ever leaves MOTD
I agree. BBC must have him on their shortlist of possible replacements. I don't think he would turn it down
