This is how you can tell too many managers lack imagination. Liverpool lacked a striker between Owen-Torres era. I would have let Carragher be a striker in _League/FA Cups_ matches and see how he got on. Scored way too many own goals to be a fluke. Muscle-Memory lads.

As absurd as that sounds there is truth to that. His final game against qpr, he let fly from 30 yards and it banged against the post. He could have done a job maybe one or two games

Was hardly ever mentioned amongst the top defenders Terry, Rio, Campbell even Ledley king but this fella seems to talk about himself as if he was in the same bracket. From what I remember no pundit or fans would mention much of Carragher.

With absolute confidence Jamie Carragher is/was 100% up there with the more glamourous names of Terry, Rio, Sol and Ledley. Even though he says he wasn't he WAS. He's just been modest. He was the most consistent performer for Liverpool for decades. Yes I know he didn't get as many international caps as the others (except The King) but how often do excellent players not get as many caps as they probably deserve. He was around at a time when England had wealth of talent at CB. Fowler and Wright didn't get as many as they should have because of the other class centre forwards playing at the time. Go back and look into JC's career properly and you will see
One of Carragher’s biggest attributes was his ability to self access and get the best out of what he had whilst avoiding doing what he wasn’t good at. At everything level of football this is vital. There’s countless players that overplay and try stuff that they think is in their locker buts not.

I played against Wayne Rooney for the villa youth when I was 14 for half hour. He was 12 an in the Everton under 14s already. He scored 4 goals against us although not any when I came on. My career got as professional as Solihull moors when we were a conference team unlike Wayne’s
Carragher was an Everton fan. He loved the club when he was playing for Liverpool and he probably still does.

If Carra had trained as a striker I'm sure he could have gotten 4-5 goals a season in the prem.. Which if you think about it is the same as what an average League1/Championship striker would get. Best player from one year group in one region of the country? Yes, totally believable and normal.
Getting to a decent Prem standard is a ridiculous standard to begin with if you do the maths.

There are a lot of average players in the Premier League that ultimately got lucky. But most of these average players went on to improve and worked hard to be better and improve.

Carra was just unlucky to be in probably the best generation for English Centre backs. Adams, Sol, Rio, Terry, Ledly. He would probably be the England captain right now if he was in this era.
