    13:39 this is what is missing from the game. In today's society where everyone wants to feel connected to their heroes/idols with social media. As a UTD fan, we feel so disconnected from our club, City started doing an access all areas series on youtube years ago, far better than what other teams offer in the same aspect.

    17:53 I'm a strength & conditioning coach. And that's my goal. To work in the prem and be one of the best coaches (in my area) in the game
    So I volunteered 1 year with an U18s semi pro team. 3 months at an academy. And 4/5 months with a semi-pro ladies team. I did a degree in Strength & Conditioning. Had my own business 2 years and separate part time gym instructing jobs for 3 and a half years.
    I've worked & volunteered 6/7 days a week, and i should be doing my masters next year in it.
    The quals and experience you need to get to the prem is mind blowing
    Masters degree
    Football coaching badges
    4/5 years pro level experience
    First aid qualifications, youth module qualifications
    Full clean drivers license
    So these clubs have incredibly high standards from everyone in the team.

    I loved this; more please Sky. I would say there was a few things missing from Gary's answer to the initial question though, but the keyword I was hoping to hear was....Futsal--if a 10 year old today wants to play top tier football in 10 years, he/she will almost certainly have to play a significant amount of Futsal between now and then.

    • @danielthompson6448
      @danielthompson6448 4 года назад

      Isn't futsal just 5 a side on astro turf that all kids play at school anyway? I've seen some clips on RUclips and it's all skills and little passes but not so much fitness, positioning, finishing past a goalkeeper, defensive responsibility etc, so while it may have a role to play I don't see it having a huge impact.

    • @joestockton7016
      @joestockton7016 4 года назад +1

      @@danielthompson6448
      1-a) Is it a 5v5 on turf?
      Fifa has approved Turf fields, but it's typically played on a hard surface e.g a basketball/handball court.
      1-b)"...that ALL kids play in school?"
      No; unless you're talking about kids in Brazil, Argentina, Portugal, Spain.
      2) "all skills and little passes"
      Do you see any correlation between this and the type of football the Brazilian national team plays?
      3) "not so much fitness"
      Have you ever played basketball or handball? Futsal is an extremely explosive sport; you have to be incredibly fit to play it.
      4) "no finishing past a GK"
      The ability to go 1v1 in Futsal is paramount to a players success at it; including 1v1 with a GK.
      5) You don't see it having a huge impact because you don't understand the impact that it has already had on the sport (see 1-b for a list of countries that have included it as a major component of their youth development programs for the last 4-8 decades; notice anything?). Many Asian, middle eastern, SE European countries have adopted futsal, and in my very subjective opinion; over the next 30 years we'll start to see many more players/teams from these counties playing in the top tiers of national and international football. Time will tell.

    Gary is right about content.
    I think in the future we'll look back on these days and people will be absolutely amazed that you couldn't watch every single match of your team when you want. The days of "oh sorry, your team haven't been picked for TV this week" will be laughed at. The smaller teams will suffer but the big boys will make their own deals and get their own games streamed through their own platforms.

    for a very limited footballer, one that i hated to my core, i absolutely love Gary Neville... for a long time I believed he was the Gravesen of Man Utd and didnt like him rubbing shoulders with Rooney, Ronaldo, Tevez, Giggs and Scholes... but over the years i have learnt to appreciate him, not that my opinion mattered before... Gary's insight is pure and i feel he echoes what normal fans believe... and he shows you side of the game that we normally miss with our biases... players point of vier, the club's psychology and all... he explains it very simply and eloquently... doesnt act like a smartass and is very humble... live long Gary, and best of luck with Salford

    Var and offside needs to be sorted out. There should be a new rule saying that if the whole foot is in front of the defender it’s offside or something or if a majority of the body is on side then it’s on side etc

    In my life time and I’m 59 is the back pass rule, once that took place, Italian teams suffered internationally and on the European stage at club level.

    • @jimmycampbell78
      @jimmycampbell78 4 года назад +2

      No, you got your timeline wrong. Back pass went out around 1991. Italy reached the World Cup Final in 1994, they won it in 2006. Reached Euro 2000 Final. Italian clubs reached a Champions League Final every year from 1992 to 1998. 2003 was all Italian Champions League Final. Milan and Inter won CLs in 2007 and 2010. But the decline of Italian football started in the 00s and it was to do with less money in the Italian game. Nothing to do with the backpass rule.

    He retired having basically experienced a bit of 3 different eras. In the early days, he saw the end of boozing culture and the entry of the professional era with bloated weekly stipends and transfer deals (birth of the prem), he then went on to see the changing tactics & entry of rich ownership in the mid-late two thousands. He just has so many stories to inform his responses. Look how he pulls one out of nowhere at 4:45
