I just bought the DG DN before the Samyang was released. I don't regret. Although it appears to have a "lesser image quality", It's extremely sharp even shooting at 1.4 in low light with high ISO, so nothing to complain about.
And I'm very sure having a stupid switch for ONE ring instead of a distinct aperture ring with indications on it (it doesn't roll until the infinite, if you aim for 2.8 you get 2.8) is way more handy.
You do a great job with these comparisons. Straight to the point!
I'm so happy to see more third party manufacturers produce superb lenses. Great comparison and thanx
Hi Tom, thank you as always. Do you have a comparison coming up, or thoughts, between the new Samyang and the Sony 1.8? I am torn between the two. Thank you so much!
Another fantastic review and the music 💯
thank you for this video! i was literally just trying to decide from these two lenses, you read my mind.
I'm waiting for this comparison.. You made my day bro... Good job , keep doing 🤗
Thanks a lot for this comparison 🤩
As usual great comparison.
i love adjusting the colour mix in lightroom, and when theres a halo effect like the one the samyang produces it can be really annoying because it makes the colour mix look weird and unnatural :/ but the higher quality that the samyang produces is ideal, i can’t decide!!
Nothing beats the 35mm GM for now, but glad we have more affordable options with E mount.
Agreed!
Yeah only the focus breathing on the GM is one of the worse.
Can request on differences between the viltrox 35mm f1.8?
Manny Ortiz and Julia Trotti made comparison between the sigma 35mm and the sony 35mm gm, and they both mentioned they look almost the same.
Would you recommend this samyang lens for apsc?
Was those test charts shot at 1.4? Because I just bought that Samyang lens expecting it to be sharp at 1.4 and it’s really not at least certainly not on my A7RV. At 2.8 it’s razor sharp. Returned it
Wonderful review! Do agree that Samyang bokeh is quite distracting. Would have deducted a point there but sadly that would have made it a tie. Brilliant as a Sony user to have so many options though 😊
Great Video bro.
Can you please compare the Samyang af 35mm f1. 4 old mark i vs Samyang af 35mm f1. 4 mark ii.
I want to know the worth of upgrading into the new mark ii.
How is your Mark 1. Mine has been horrific. Terrible in accurate autofocus and the top half of the lens has much less bokeh then the bottom half. This might just be faulty but it’s worth mentioning. Apparently the mkii improves in all these aspects
I have the Samyang 35mm f1.4 v1, which is okay but not amazing. I would love to get a newer and much better version, but I am not sure this second version is actually that much better.
Breathes harder than RK visiting an all girl High School. You crazy!🤣
😜
Best part. 😜
Hello. thanks for the video. what do you choose for the wedding (only for photography) Sony 35 f1.8 or Samyang 35 f1.4 II? thank you in advance.
Of those two specific choices, I'd go for the Samyang. But the ultimate 35mm option is still the Sony 35mm f/1.4 GM... If you can stretch your budget to afford it 🤑
@@TomCalton Thank you very much again.
Hey man, thanks for the vídeo, I’m from Brazil, here the prices of the lenses are so expensive, so for us, the diference price between these two lenses are huge. What’s your final opinion? Which one is more worth it? I’ve the A7III body.
Ele deu a resposta no final, samyang
My old Nikon D800 bag consisted of Sigma 35 1.4, Nikon 85 1.8g, Tamron 24 70 2.8, and 70 to 200 2.8 USD. I found that this is all I need for everything I did. Now that I am transitioning to my A7R2, I finally scored a Tokina 85 1.8 for $250, and a Tamron 70 to 180 2.8 for $700. Two more lenses to go. A 35 1.4 and a 24 to 70 2.8 Zoom.
im here for the sample images. DAMN!
I love sony lenses but i wish they would care as much to reduce focus breathing as samyang
what kind of a light did you use for the video of the model ?
Just natural light
@@TomCalton thank you , really like your videos. By the way how tall are you ? the cameras look like toys in your hands.
There is a lot of reports that samyang have AF motor failures over short period of time and there is parts shortage for warranty repair
That r Kelly comment had be burst out laughing 😂
R Kelly getting taken down another peg! LMAO
The Sony 35mm 1.4 GM are better than those two Lenses, but I went for the Voigtländer APO-Lanthar 35mm 2.0 Aspherical which are just as good as the Sony in optical image quality.
Are you a salesman for Voigtländer?
35mm madnessessss
please compare all 35mm.
I will do. I'm just waiting for Tokina to bring out their long awaited 35mm and then it's on
In NL the Samyang is 700 compared to sigma 850. Quite the difference.
After reading all comment my Question
how are you sir
Please tell me which one should I buy?
Samyang 35mm f/1.4 D OR OR Sigma 35mm f/1.4 DG DN
video is my priority while choosing a lens auto focus and focus breathing is my first priority. I can afford sigma 35mm 1.4 dndn as well as samyang 35mm 1.4 II but can not afford sony gm 35mm
my priority is samyang because in india samyang is little bit cheaper so i spend rest amount for other accessory
please reply me as soon as possible
i want to buy very soon
so u please reply🙏🙏🙏
You didn't see the whole video. Those questions have been answered in the video, don't be lazy
wow what a great model ..who is she ?
Samyang for me
Easy fix for shoit bokeh with photoshop not so easy for sharpness ooc
What? Surely you mean that the other way round? Adding is little bit of sharpness is easy, how do you correct easily (if at all) for bokeh color fringing or onion ring structures like the ones from Samyang?
what a makeup! ooff
Primero!!! Y en Español!! 😂
Si! Muy bien 👌🏻
Very beautiful EYES of the girl! •_•
No way a Samyang is better than a Sigma !
It is
@@cpr1087 you sure ? I’m planning on getting a 35mm. Should I go for Samyang ?
@@lasgiddie3587 I have the first version of the samyang 35mm f1.4 and it focuses better than the first version of the sigma 35mm f1.4 which is actually a lens designed for dslr from 10 years ago.The sigma is a little sharper and has a little more contrast, but you can do these things in the edit as well, but not changing the focus. The Samyang 35mm has been in my bag for over 3 years :D
just get the sigma.
What's your reasoning behind that out of interest?
Those reviews are stupid AF, sorry to say that. You pinpoint some detailed/maybe crucial differences, such as plastic vs metal, halo vs less halo around bokeh balls, and then you give points to both lenses :)))
The hilarious thing is, if I marked one lens down for being plastic rather than metal, or had taken a point away just for haloing on the bokeh balls, I'd have ten times the amount of people in the comments jumping down my throat telling me my scoring is "dumb AF". It's something I can NEVER please everyone with. And so, I don't try to please everyone. The scores are based on my own opinion and experience. Don't agree with that? That is absolutely fine! Make your own scores up. Hell, why not make your own review videos? But calling my reviews dumb because my personal opinion doesn't align with your own, that's what's dumb AF. Sorry to say that...
@@TomCalton Look, I appreciate your detailed response and respect your opinion. I just have different. For me it seems like you are trying to please everyone. You do have opinion and in fact the things that you point out in the vid are all valid. Then, the score is just like you don't want to hurt anyone's feelings. I mean, alright, that's your thing, you character, it's fine. I just preffer plain truth. Metal build is always better than the plastik, maybe weights more, but it just feels better, more premium and also is more robust. Same thing with haloing, it's simply better not to have that. I personally hate excessive fringing in out of focus areas.
That's exactly my point. Your opinion differs to mine. And that's absolutely fine. But what's not ok is for you to call my reviews dumb purely because my own opinions don't match with yours. And to then accuse me of deliberately trying to please everyone when you don't know me at all is just plain weird. If I wanted to please everyone I wouldn't point out the failures of the lenses I test, which I do regularly and also get slated for A LOT in the comments. Ultimately mate, these videos are here to help you make your own informed decisions based on the evidence I provide and my own experience. My word isn't gospel and you should always come to your own conclusion based on your own personal preferences and shooting style. But do us all a favour and keep the finger pointing and baseless accusations out of the discussion. It's boring.
I, too, used to breath heavily when walking by an all girl's high school...but I outgrew that when I turned 18. So I guess the Sigma is probably out of the question for me, right?
