Announcer Lines in NFS: Prostreet When You Bring a Ford GT to Drift Events

- I was cleaning out the hard drive today and got reminded to upload this footage. I encountered this originally back in the day, but I thought my kid brain was playing tricks on me, because there wasn't a wiki mention or video I could find on the subject.
I BELIEVE this also occurs for a few other cars (Lamborghini and Porsche?) but I haven't gotten the chance to check. Feel free to give it a shot!
I adore these little details in pro-street, just gives it a tad bit more personality than what we have in modern-racers these days
It's depressing looking at modern racing games right now, There's just nothing that...seems like it has passion put into it, Prostreet is full of life and details as well as being innovative with the race day system and having to actually repair the damages on your car.
We haven't really seen much similar to it since then unfortunately and it's a real shame

Not even trying new things, unbound did but uuh.. didn’t really executed it well but atleast they’ve tried to differentiate themselves from the rest of the games,
Goodness, most of modern racers usually showcase the “graphics” way before the gameplay aspect, especially track based ones
Forza motorsport reboot did just that when they’ve revealed their upcoming game but hardly no actual gameplay, and that tells me something
It’s mind boggling to think about it since we had so much variety back in the 2000’s for racing games, and i’ve always been using emulators just to get these games running up again and have a blast
@@Lesturn You can take TXRD2 as an example for a really creative racing game, It had its own message board where tons of racers post on it and they may even challenge you, that's immersive and unique. Not to mention there's 372 characters in this game (and an even crazier 600 characters in TXR3) that all have their own backstory and talk to you, Also there were tons of courses too.
I suppose its because the racing genre was a bit more mainstream back then and the car scene was, let's say more lively than today. Modern racing games today are really dull and for the most part seem like cash grabs such as NFS unbound which is too similar to heat and missed the mark, Forza horizon/motorsport being lazy and just caring about its graphics as well as deviating from what it originally was, especially horizon.
I think most big companies see the racing genre as a money loss now and decide to make FPS games instead which is just the sad reality of things, Genki made fun japanese racing games for highway and touge racing fans in which nobody in the last 20+ years have come close to making a game similar to what genki did, time will tell I guess if this genre gets some resurgence and we get some nice racing games instead of NFS and forza disappointments all the time.
The amount of detail in this game was seriously underappreciated.

While I never used the Ford GT, I would use a Chevelle. And they'd do the same thing of "No way they're going to drift that" like a 454 powered car on bias plys can do much else other then drifting.
I remember using a 69' Camaro a few times and got a similar reaction haha
TECHNICALLY SPEAKING, you need some level of grip and such to drift in the proper way - Bias ply tyres are probably fucking awful for that, so are old muscle cars
@@DiegoRuiz1991very true, those cars from the factory handled like an f150 with bad suspension, that said with a bit of work its very possible to drift them, especially with how bad understeer is because of how heavy the engines are it becomes close to the only way to turn at high speeds

If only I could enjoy it from the beginning. I love this game nowadays, but back then I didn’t like all the changes. TBH I was much younger
I had mixed feelings about it back in the day and though I appreciate it more now, it still has glaring problems. For one, it ran like absolute garbage on consoles and PCs of the day. The "kings" are laughably easy to beat while random races (like some checkpoint challenges) are borderline unfair. Wheelie races and drifting just suck and feel like unfinished minigames rather than proper game-modes. Worst of all, the driving physics are both unrealistic and unintuitive, which is kind of a worst of both worlds. The game had potential, but it wasn't executed too well, and it's not what fans wanted
You get similar comments when you bring a corvette to drift events.
But it has been proven corvettes can drift, with irl's drift build Falken Corvette
It's kinda wierd knowing how most muscle cars are known to drift too much and lose traction in corners.

I remember also that in Collector's Edition there is a challenge where you have to drift in a Chevelle and the announcer will say "Drifting in a Chevelle? Okay, this I gotta see!"

Lol I played this so much on 360 that when shift 1 came out my friend let me play it and I used a evo 10 on willow springs and he said I mastered the corners because I drove as clean as possible in pro street because of the damage, and that was my first time playing shift

As much as I can remember... I've brought Murcielago and E46 to the drag race and the commenter also noted this. Compared with newer titles, attention to details is on a completely different level.
It would be absolutely insane if commenters also noted choosing a good car, like: "OMG, IS THAT A SUPRA? I tell you, this car will beat any other". Not just bragging about how great of a driver you are, which you heard more than 1000 times already.

Definitely not wrong. Realistically, you can absolutely drift this thing, and the Ford GT funnily enough slides very well in Prostreet. However, the body length and expenses of drifting one makes it impractical in a real setting.
There’s lots of videos of supercars powersliding on an open track, but they’re rarely seen in a scheduled drift event!
Ford GT proportions are meant for high-speed aerodynamics and high torque. It's also pretty expensive to repair, and Drifting literally shreds your tires wholesale.
That's why you see a lot of JDMs, older GM cars, or sport sedans for drifting. Cheaper and smarter that way.
The main thing is mid-engined cars typically aren't suited to drifting because they have a tendency to snap quickly when they get sideways past a certain angle
the Ford GT is a mid-engined car, which are generally not common in drifting, it's possible to drift MR cars but, the layout is not as good as base-line and usually an MR is more expensive than FR (front-engine rearwheel drive)
Could've added subtitles to this video because I can't for the life of me understand what the announcers are even saying due to the crappy echo distortions.

Incredible how these little details, that would make an average gamer nut them pants when discovering it in a video, got completely dismissed in this game when it came out, and just because it wasn't "illegal street racing".
Yet another proof that average gamers maybe knows what they want, but don't know how to elaborate on what that is precisely.

Seriously, they have the Underground all the way to Pro Street to remastered it or even better, remake with better graphics but they always find a way to F'up even a good game like Unbound...
