We already got whisper and tangle being “good friends” so that’s cool! SEGA surprisingly is good w lgbt rep (look at Yakuza) so it’s not like a “sega hates gay” thing. Even if Sonadow isn’t canon the fact that they kinda entertain that idea and mess w the fandom in a lighthearted way (which isn’t homophobic) makes me satisfied

The entire Sonic The Hedgehog franchise is so queer it's comforting. I am a genderqueer lesbian on the aroace spectrum, and Sonic has helped me connect with the fact that I am so much more than just a girl and that my identity is a beautiful thing I should enjoy and embrace. Sonic characters make me feel right at home. This is such a good video, thank you for this.

@@Kameno-o honestly! I always knew Sonic influenced me a lot as I always adored a lot of things about it such as it's music, characters and style. But I don't think I ever realized how comforting it is to have characters with different ethnicities and that represent some identities so well, characters that I can connect to and even base myself off of. I'm so happy that this is what I grew up with.
Sonic is against oppression...he wants everyone to be themselves! Ive always felt different (gender wise) ..so i came out as trans years ago,but sadly..no one in my house uses my prefered name or pronouns..i also came out as gay aswell but yea..so i just keep it to myself.. I lm happy to be a sonic fan to this day because i can be myself around the characters..they feel like real friends even though they're just characters ❤

Speaking as someone's who main ship is straight as can be (Sonally), I came away from this video with an intimate understanding of why THIS relationship works. Because it is a reciprotive one. I think having healthy goals is important, and doubly so for those finding their own identity. This was such a cathartic video. Im an aroace person, who was never interested in sonic as a kid, but i became interested in the fandom some years ago, and started watching prime when it came out. I wouldnt call myself a sonic fan, because i have never played a sonic game or watched a show besides prime, but i do love sonadow. You described why that ship is so compelling, for me the rivalry and the mutual respect they have for each other is the best point of it. I also headcannon shadow as somewhere on the aro or ace spectrum, so that was an awakening point for me, to accept that i could be aro ace and be loved. And that i could overcome hardships as well, i just really love shadows character! Congrats on them being your gay awakening, that is such a great story. I see my love for sonadow as a cringe part of myself, but this video makes me accept it a bit more, its not just me being a "cringey fangirl", its valid. Thank you!

As a gay man myself I love this, sonic was a huge part of my life and as a person who grew in a traditional catholic home, ships were the only way to express my sexuality. For the longest time, I didn't know why I relate to gay ships and not straight ones. I'm not going to tell my life story. I'm just saying ships like sonadow is very special to me, so I love this video. Great job! ❤
Sonadow was my awakening as well. I'm still not fully sure about on what spectrums I am, but I dang sure know I'm part of the LGBTQ+ community and certainly not straight. Ever since I learned about Sonic 10+ years ago, the Sonadow ship has been there from the very start. And I'm quite grateful for it, as it has helped me through though times.
When you're the fastest thing alive or designed as a super soldier and there's someone out there who can give you a run for your money, force you to adapt and makes you push yourself to your limits, it's more refreshing than anything. One of the things I feel is easy to forget in Sa2B is that right before the Sonic v Shadow fight on the space colony is that Shadow just had his identity as the ultimate life called into question and he's still trying to convince himself of who he is. Final chase's lyrics help convey the crisis of identity he's having in trying to assure himself of his identity and beliefs only to see that Sonic is still alive and managed to cheat death in an impossible situation. Then the two fight it out and then after having his actual memories return to him he shows up to join and aid everyone else. Like even though there are world ending stakes, the two are both legitimately having fun in the challenge of having to go up against each other as opposed to the animosity and confusion from their first fight in the forest. You're also jealous of your boyfriend for having a goddamn bounce bracelet when you don't-- I saw a tumblr post that points out how it's not weird for Sonic and Shadow fighting all the time because they don't fight over small or petty things--they fight and disagree over major life or death issues like killing someone, a broken reality, or the fate of the world. I feel Sonic Prime most recently really showcased that well in how Shadow had legitimate reason to disagree with and even fight him despite them having the same goal and I feel describing them as "fighting" all the time oversimplifies why it is they fight in the first place. The ending of Sonic Prime should be that Sonic and Shadow have to re-energize the rainbow colored paradox prism with all the gay energy they can muster. But jokes aside, I understand where you're coming from completely because I've been thinking about how much I connected with Knuckles and him being Afro-Native. It still isn't without its issues, but seeing a character so proud of and committed to his heritage, having his villains be people that constantly try to exploit his kindness and grace while stealing his land and resources, and then being labeled angry and aggressive for being pissed about it always resonated so much with me as a Black fan of the Sonic series. I think there's something to be said about how so many different oppressed people identify with the series in so many different ways.

This franchise really does connect to us I think because Sonic as a franchise is about challenging the status quo for those not heard. Oh, man, I can't wait to see the new generation of Sonadow fans once the third Sonic movie comes out. (BTW if you happen to look for some good sonadow fanfics I highly recommend Fragile Angels on ao3 and ff. It's from 2012-2013 and it's spectacular. I make it my duty to get more people to read it so I don't have to suffer all alone.)

tbh the only reason I got into sonic was thanks to sonadow, I didn't even know shadow existed before watching a youtube video about Sonic ships, but it made me watch prime, buy frontiers and just get the biggest hyperfix on Sonic as a whole. it also took over everything I draw, I can't even go one day without drawing some kind of a sonic character😅

hi, just wanted to say this was a great video and i enjoyed watching it immensely! i only got into Sonic a few years back but i've kind of shipped Sonadow since... like... the minute i laid eyes on them so it's so nice to see people as passionate, if not more passionate about them than i am i love the point you brought up about their SA2 character songs and i have some thoughts about it that also kind of sum up why i adore Sonadow so much. the titles themselves "It Doesn't Matter" and "Throw It All Away" have really different tones and attitudes but ultimately both are about freedom and living your own way and i think it really speaks to how even though Sonic and Shadow have their difference, they also have that in common and they'll always have each others' backs when it counts. additionally it was really cool to see how personal Sonadow is to you and how it links to other parts of your life/identity and it really goes to show how important queer representation in media is in helping us discover ourselves. all in all, great job

Honestly sonic was such a comfort in my life, the message of “be your self no matter what” try was something that little me needed to hear, sonadow was my first ever exposure to any gay shipping/media and I can’t begin to describe how happy and comforting it was to see other people that liked them. Sonadow will always and forever be my comfort ship it helped me throw so much, it has such a special place in my heart💙🖤

Honestly. You took the words right out of my mouth about this Ship, it's so nice to finally have a video properly covering this ship because it's literally my favorite..besides Knuxouge. And I'm so glad you covered how much discrimination The lgbtq community has faced during the 80-90's and early 2000's. The stereotyping was probably the worst of it. I was also raised in a toxic christian household where gays were considered weird, which didn't help me as a growing teen discovering I was bisexual lmao. As a super young sonic fan, I discovered the internet and what it had to offer. The earliest days of sonic ship art in the early 2000's was a wild ride to say the least, from ship wars to downright homophobia, to (luckily) lgbtq folk slowly rising within the fandom.. it wasn't easy to just come out and proudly say you were a Sonadow fan back then, without receiving such firey unwarranted backlash. It still sometimes happens today obviously, but it's not as bad as it was back then. Which is why when the ship started to boom durastically in the 2000's, it was so hard for me to come out to my family/friends/followers and happily admit I was a Sonadow shipper, because I was afraid of what others might think of me, and like I said the Ship wars and homophobia didn't make it any easier. So for years, I grew up having to safely tuck Sonadow aside so that I wasn't seen as weird. It sucked because I loved it so much but because Sonic fans on Twitter especially..are so hostile, it was hard to truly express myself. But ever since Sonic Prime became a thing, the Sonadow ship hyperfixation was resurrected within me, and it was like a breathe of fresh air for the Sonadow community..and Sonic fans in general, the show sparked so much amazing content that gave so many Sonic fans a show to look forward to.. and from that point on I already stopped caring about what others think, and just decided to say "f*ck it" and draw a bunch of artwork for it, and show my love and appreciation for the show and the characters themselves. And still to this day I do not care what others think. Sonic Prime Season 3 drops in 7 days and I wouldn't miss it's airing for the world!!! Go Shadonic!!!!✨️🌈🎉🎉🎉🎉🖤❤️💙

As a person who fell in love with Rouge first and tried to be Bisexual I started to gravitate towards Sonic and Shadow instead and how I liked them and their relationship more then anything else. After a while I wanted what they had but I wasn't sure what or how to get it but this ship gave me hope that I could. I realized that I was Gay and this ship was the first important stepping stone in my journey to self discovery. Your insertion of your nationality and history was really interesting and I learned so much as a person who grew up in a place where there were very little to hardly no diversity and just white cis bigoted men and women it was so fascinating to hear a mixture of history and personal accounts from you. This ship won't ever be official but it will forever live in my heart. Thank you so much for making this video. ❤
For the segment of why Sonic is attracted to Shadow, Im going to have to disagree with you, as you have mischaracterized Sonic. Sonic doesn’t care what people think of him. He’s a guy that does heroic things because he has a strong sense of justice, but he isn’t doing it to look cool or what not, thus he would not be attracted to Shadow because of that. I think Sonic is attracted to Shadow because Shadow is the only one he can keep up with. Notice how Sonic stops for no one, yet stops for Shadow? Shadow brings chaos to Sonic’s life, and he LOVES it. Both Sonic and Shadow annoy one another, but their paolarizing personalities and handlings of situations create a dynamic no other character can have with Sonic. Sonic and Shadow are just…right for each other in their own fucked up way

I'm crying, this video is so touching! I live in Russia and latest laws is cruel (being gay is extremism here), I'm just an average person (but gay) and everyone can put me in jail for 12 years just cause of rainbow badge or else rainbow things (that's crazy), I'm not even talking about hugs and stuff, it's illegal now. (I'm scared to hug my male friends) I don't think I belong here anymore, I don't have that much money to leave and I'm still in college (half of year to go), but sonadow gives me hope I need and I do my best for my better future. I'm transmasc and questioning and I can't explain how happy ships like these make me. The competitiveness, the bickering. The way they compliment eachother, without the need to follow the usual rules we see in other relationships. Just everything about this dynamic is so good. Its very queer which is amazing

Wow, I'm not sure what i expected from clicking on a video about gay hedgehogs, but it sure wasn't an insightful and inspirational look into queer figures and puerto rican history. This was so passionate, i love it. I'm not in the sonic fandom, but i know some things about it from friends and the internet, and i have to say, i think i really enjoy this ship too. In fact, it reminds me a lot of a ship from a completely different franchise I hold very dear to my heart as well (rinharu from the anime free!). It's because of the exact reasons you listed. I adore rivals to lovers as a trope. That mutual inspiration and drive to improve, that mututal respect and admiration, and that opposites attract dynamic. I love when characters compliment each other, watching them become their best selves together. They need each other in their lives, whether they'd want to admit it or not. I love that competitive spirit between them and seeing how much they truly care for one another. It's excellent. And very inspirational too. It may sound silly, but yeah fictional media can leave a lasting impact on you. It's a shame to see some nasty comments already appearing on this video. It was very well done and i liked seeing how much enthusiasm you put into conveying how much you care about your culture identity and how this ship helped you discover more about yourself. And i love that "plaigirized by james somerton" joke at the beginning lmao.

Going into this video essay, I was mostly expecting something light-hearted and maybe a little silly... and I did get that. However, I more importantly got something extremely insightful and reflective - on queerness, on fandom, and on multi-faceted identity - everything was interconnected and it made me think about *my* personal experiences as a queer person through the lens of fandom; Something I wasn't expecting to do today, but am grateful I did nonetheless. I am convinced next year will be the year of Sonic and Shadow. This is such a great late Xmas gift. I’m thankful for it. The video got me clapping my hands in person and squealing. I learned things from the history lessons. I enjoyed the breakdown of this ship. The skits were silly. Listening to your story was wonderful. This left me smiling Sonic Adventure 2 I will be peacefully going to sleep now.
First of all: This whole video is such a masterpiece, great job. You're a treasure to this world, you seem like such an amazing person!! Now, about the ship: Even as a hardcore Sonamy fan (it was literally my whole worlds as a kid), I honestly feel like Sonic couldn't commit to a typical romantic relationship, have a fam and slow down - in the end his biggest love will always be adventure. That's why someone like Shadow would be perfect for him - there'd be no need to slow down. They wouldn't even have to change much, they could keep that rivalry between them and just have each other's backs. I don't know, I just like the vibe they have. There's an understanding between them that Sonic doesn't have with anyone else.

this video has brought a smile to my face it is SUCH a good one! i am an aroace person and found out about sonic in 2021 i think? through the movie. i have always known im aroace, but i have always been drawn to shipping - really, just as a sort of escapism, a way to find comfort sonadow, just like you said, represents hope in different ways, and as someone who is in a bad situation irl, i found myself using it to find comfort but also motivate myself a bit (hell, the reason i watched this vid was bc i was v upset and decided i should watch smth of a comfort of mine and here i am, having experienced a canon event) id say that i resonate with both characters - i resonate a lot with shadows struggles regarding his past and identity (especially what others expect of him), while with sonic i resonate a lot with that attitude of always being hopeful and cheerful, trying to be a rock for others - and this ship just makes me happy haha. like i KNOW it is seen as a meme and cringe, but its like its MY cringe !! heck, its also led me to find friends online AND improve my art lmao should be mentioned that smth else that draws me is just how the sonic franchise is a sort of safe haven for multiple minorities, and how its reflected in the themes it often has - of being yourself, of hope, of fighting and all that stuff ALSO i just wanna add that smth that adds to sonadow imo is that iirc they have been described as ppl who have been fated by destiny or smth like that? cant recall the source though unfortunately, small stuff about their og designs like how shadows ears are rounder and how even that fits into the complexity of their characters + that one line shadow has where he says that he thinks sonic is the real ultimate lifeform... anyway this comment is def messy bc i am not good at this and its like . nearly 2 am BUT i just had to type smth bc i am SO normal about sonadow! yippie yay !

This was a beautiful video. As a gay, masc leaning non binary person, ships have always been an important part of my exploration of my identity. In fact, a certain kind of Sonadow art was one of the first things that made me comfortable with the sexual side of my identity, which I was previously appalled by because of my upbringing. This was after I learned I was gay, but still didn't feel comfortable with the sexual side of my identity. Despite that, I never actually got into the Sonic franchise. I always was on the sidelines. I'd watch my brother watch playthroughs and play the games himself, and I have watched a few episodes of X and Boom. But I started getting more into it recently. Frontiers is the first Sonic game I became interested in buying ( even if I haven't yet ), I started listening to more of the music ( Undefeatable being my fav ), and I got to play my first Sonic game with The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog ( which as an aside, Barry is such a great character, and I really connected with them because they were non binary like me ). Back to my queer identity though, there are plenty more of ships that have helped me understand my identity, and what kind of relationship I want ( as well as what kinds of spicy things I want to do with guys, if you know what I mean ). And pretty much all of them are gay furry ships lol. My favorite ship though is definitely Soriku from Kingdom Hearts. I remember when I learned that I was gay, I started seeing the characters of Sora and Riku as gay, and I started really connecting with them in a way I hadn't before. Despite that, I was always a casual shipper of them. But it wasn't until earlier this where I really became an avid shipper of them, and even believe that their relationship will be canon. And now, their both my favorite ship and my favorite characters in all of fiction ( I mean, they were always my favorite characters, but they are even more now ). Speaking of Disney, I definitely remember that the first character I had a crush on was Max Goof. I didn't know it at the time, but looking back it's obvious I was obsessed with him in a way that was different from how I obsessed with other characters. Ships really mean a lot to me, and I'm grateful that they've given me an outlet to explore my gay identity, and have given me a lot of comfort in an environment where I don't feel comfortable coming out to anyone. And I like learning that they've done the same to you too. I've started watching your videos recently, and I've really enjoyed them a lot and have learned from them to ( including queer history ). Also I've really liked learning more about Puerto Rican history through this video, since I don't know much about that subject. So, thanks for doing what you've been doing. A brilliant Sonic fanfic series that was tragically taken down by it creator is Harmony, Unity and Solidarity by StardustSpeedway. It’s 3 fics, first Harmony then Unity then Solidarity. If you google it you can find fans have saved and archived it. I loved their characterisation of Sonic and Shadow, I think they captured their personalities perfectly. And I love the lore the came up with for their series, it becomes so epic. The author was also working with an artist on an awesome looking Sonadow comic. I only discovered their works after they left the internet. I wish them the best though wherever they are now

But I don't think I ever realized how comforting it is to have characters with different ethnicities and that represent some identities so well, characters that I can connect to and even base myself off of. This was such a cathartic video. Im an aroace person, who was never interested in sonic as a kid, but i became interested in the fandom some years ago, and started watching prime when it came out. I wouldnt call myself a sonic fan, because i have never played a sonic game or watched a show besides prime, but i do love sonadow. You described why that ship is so compelling, for me the rivalry and the mutual respect they have for each other is the best point of it. I also headcannon shadow as somewhere on the aro or ace spectrum, so that was an awakening point for me, to accept that i could be aro ace and be loved. And that i could overcome hardships as well, i just really love shadows character! Congrats on them being your gay awakening, that is such a great story. I see my love for sonadow as a cringe part of myself, but this video makes me accept it a bit more, its not just me being a "cringey fangirl", its valid. Thank you!

When you're the fastest thing alive or designed as a super soldier and there's someone out there who can give you a run for your money, force you to adapt and makes you push yourself to your limits, it's more refreshing than anything.
One of the things I feel is easy to forget in Sa2B is that right before the Sonic v Shadow fight on the space colony is that Shadow just had his identity as the ultimate life called into question and he's still trying to convince himself of who he is. Final chase's lyrics help convey the crisis of identity he's having in trying to assure himself of his identity and beliefs only to see that Sonic is still alive and managed to cheat death in an impossible situation. Then the two fight it out and then after having his actual memories return to him he shows up to join and aid everyone else.
Like even though there are world ending stakes, the two are both legitimately having fun in the challenge of having to go up against each other as opposed to the animosity and confusion from their first fight in the forest.

I saw a tumblr post that points out how it's not weird for Sonic and Shadow fighting all the time because they don't fight over small or petty things--they fight and disagree over major life or death issues like killing someone, a broken reality, or the fate of the world. I feel Sonic Prime most recently really showcased that well in how Shadow had legitimate reason to disagree with and even fight him despite them having the same goal and I feel describing them as "fighting" all the time oversimplifies why it is they fight in the first place.
The ending of Sonic Prime should be that Sonic and Shadow have to re-energize the rainbow colored paradox prism with all the gay energy they can muster.
But jokes aside, I understand where you're coming from completely because I've been thinking about how much I connected with Knuckles and him being Afro-Native. It still isn't without its issues, but seeing a character so proud of and committed to his heritage, having his villains be people that constantly try to exploit his kindness and grace while stealing his land and resources, and then being labeled angry and aggressive for being pissed about it always resonated so much with me as a Black fan of the Sonic series. I think there's something to be said about how so many different oppressed people identify with the series in so many different ways.

This franchise really does connect to us I think because Sonic as a franchise is about challenging the status quo for those not heard. i love the point you brought up about their SA2 character songs and i have some thoughts about it that also kind of sum up why i adore Sonadow so much. the titles themselves "It Doesn't Matter" and "Throw It All Away" have really different tones and attitudes but ultimately both are about freedom and living your own way and i think it really speaks to how even though Sonic and Shadow have their difference, they also have that in common and they'll always have each others' backs when it counts.
additionally it was really cool to see how personal Sonadow is to you and how it links to other parts of your life/identity and it really goes to show how important queer representation in media is in helping us discover ourselves. all in all, great job

And I'm so glad you covered how much discrimination The lgbtq community has faced during the 80-90's and early 2000's. The stereotyping was probably the worst of it. I was also raised in a toxic christian household where gays were considered weird, which didn't help me as a growing teen discovering I was bisexual lmao.
As a super young sonic fan, I discovered the internet and what it had to offer. The earliest days of sonic ship art in the early 2000's was a wild ride to say the least, from ship wars to downright homophobia, to (luckily) lgbtq folk slowly rising within the fandom.. it wasn't easy to just come out and proudly say you were a Sonadow fan back then, without receiving such firey unwarranted backlash. It still sometimes happens today obviously, but it's not as bad as it was back then. Which is why when the ship started to boom durastically in the 2000's, it was so hard for me to come out to my family/friends/followers and happily admit I was a Sonadow shipper, because I was afraid of what others might think of me, and like I said the Ship wars and homophobia didn't make it any easier. So for years, I grew up having to safely tuck Sonadow aside so that I wasn't seen as weird. It sucked because I loved it so much but because Sonic fans on Twitter especially..are so hostile, it was hard to truly express myself. But ever since Sonic Prime became a thing, the Sonadow ship hyperfixation was resurrected within me, and it was like a breathe of fresh air for the Sonadow community..and Sonic fans in general, the show sparked so much amazing content that gave so many Sonic fans a show to look forward to.. and from that point on I already stopped caring about what others think, and just decided to say "f*ck it" and draw a bunch of artwork for it, and show my love and appreciation for the show and the characters themselves. And still to this day I do not care what others think. Sonic Prime Season 3 drops in 7 days and I wouldn't miss it's airing for the world!!! Go Shadonic!!!!✨️🌈🎉🎉🎉🎉🖤❤️💙

As a person who fell in love with Rouge first and tried to be Bisexual I started to gravitate towards Sonic and Shadow instead and how I liked them and their relationship more then anything else. After a while I wanted what they had but I wasn't sure what or how to get it but this ship gave me hope that I could. I realized that I was Gay and this ship was the first important stepping stone in my journey to self discovery. Your insertion of your nationality and history was really interesting and I learned so much as a person who grew up in a place where there were very little to hardly no diversity and just white cis bigoted men and women it was so fascinating to hear a mixture of history and personal accounts from you. This ship won't ever be official but it will forever live in my heart. Thank you so much for making this video. ❤

For the segment of why Sonic is attracted to Shadow, Im going to have to disagree with you, as you have mischaracterized Sonic.
Sonic doesn’t care what people think of him. He’s a guy that does heroic things because he has a strong sense of justice, but he isn’t doing it to look cool or what not, thus he would not be attracted to Shadow because of that.
I think Sonic is attracted to Shadow because Shadow is the only one he can keep up with. Notice how Sonic stops for no one, yet stops for Shadow? Shadow brings chaos to Sonic’s life, and he LOVES it. Both Sonic and Shadow annoy one another, but their paolarizing personalities and handlings of situations create a dynamic no other character can have with Sonic.

I'm transmasc and questioning and I can't explain how happy ships like these make me. The competitiveness, the bickering. Wow, I'm not sure what i expected from clicking on a video about gay hedgehogs, but it sure wasn't an insightful and inspirational look into queer figures and puerto rican history. This was so passionate, i love it.
I'm not in the sonic fandom, but i know some things about it from friends and the internet, and i have to say, i think i really enjoy this ship too. In fact, it reminds me a lot of a ship from a completely different franchise I hold very dear to my heart as well (rinharu from the anime free!). It's because of the exact reasons you listed. I adore rivals to lovers as a trope. That mutual inspiration and drive to improve, that mututal respect and admiration, and that opposites attract dynamic. I love when characters compliment each other, watching them become their best selves together. They need each other in their lives, whether they'd want to admit it or not. I love that competitive spirit between them and seeing how much they truly care for one another. It's excellent. And very inspirational too. It may sound silly, but yeah fictional media can leave a lasting impact on you.
It's a shame to see some nasty comments already appearing on this video. It was very well done and i liked seeing how much enthusiasm you put into conveying how much you care about your culture identity and how this ship helped you discover more about yourself.

Going into this video essay, I was mostly expecting something light-hearted and maybe a little silly... and I did get that. However, I more importantly got something extremely insightful and reflective - on queerness, on fandom, and on multi-faceted identity - everything was interconnected and it made me think about *my* personal experiences as a queer person through the lens of fandom; Something I wasn't expecting to do today, but am grateful I did nonetheless. Now, about the ship: Even as a hardcore Sonamy fan (it was literally my whole worlds as a kid), I honestly feel like Sonic couldn't commit to a typical romantic relationship, have a fam and slow down - in the end his biggest love will always be adventure. That's why someone like Shadow would be perfect for him - there'd be no need to slow down. They wouldn't even have to change much, they could keep that rivalry between them and just have each other's backs. I don't know, I just like the vibe they have. There's an understanding between them that Sonic doesn't have with anyone else.

i am an aroace person and found out about sonic in 2021 i think? through the movie.
i have always known im aroace, but i have always been drawn to shipping - really, just as a sort of escapism, a way to find comfort
sonadow, just like you said, represents hope in different ways, and as someone who is in a bad situation irl, i found myself using it to find comfort but also motivate myself a bit (hell, the reason i watched this vid was bc i was v upset and decided i should watch smth of a comfort of mine and here i am, having experienced a canon event)
id say that i resonate with both characters - i resonate a lot with shadows struggles regarding his past and identity (especially what others expect of him), while with sonic i resonate a lot with that attitude of always being hopeful and cheerful, trying to be a rock for others - and this ship just makes me happy haha. like i KNOW it is seen as a meme and cringe, but its like its MY cringe !!

This was a beautiful video. As a gay, masc leaning non binary person, ships have always been an important part of my exploration of my identity. In fact, a certain kind of Sonadow art was one of the first things that made me comfortable with the sexual side of my identity, which I was previously appalled by because of my upbringing. This was after I learned I was gay, but still didn't feel comfortable with the sexual side of my identity. Despite that, I never actually got into the Sonic franchise. I always was on the sidelines. I'd watch my brother watch playthroughs and play the games himself, and I have watched a few episodes of X and Boom. But I started getting more into it recently. Frontiers is the first Sonic game I became interested in buying ( even if I haven't yet ), I started listening to more of the music ( Undefeatable being my fav ), and I got to play my first Sonic game with The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog ( which as an aside, Barry is such a great character, and I really connected with them because they were non binary like me ). Back to my queer identity though, there are plenty more of ships that have helped me understand my identity, and what kind of relationship I want ( as well as what kinds of spicy things I want to do with guys, if you know what I mean ). And pretty much all of them are gay furry ships lol. My favorite ship though is definitely Soriku from Kingdom Hearts. I remember when I learned that I was gay, I started seeing the characters of Sora and Riku as gay, and I started really connecting with them in a way I hadn't before. Despite that, I was always a casual shipper of them. But it wasn't until earlier this where I really became an avid shipper of them, and even believe that their relationship will be canon. And now, their both my favorite ship and my favorite characters in all of fiction ( I mean, they were always my favorite characters, but they are even more now ). Speaking of Disney, I definitely remember that the first character I had a crush on was Max Goof. I didn't know it at the time, but looking back it's obvious I was obsessed with him in a way that was different from how I obsessed with other characters. Ships really mean a lot to me, and I'm grateful that they've given me an outlet to explore my gay identity, and have given me a lot of comfort in an environment where I don't feel comfortable coming out to anyone. And I like learning that they've done the same to you too. I've started watching your videos recently, and I've really enjoyed them a lot and have learned from them to ( including queer history ). Also I've really liked learning more about Puerto Rican history through this video, since I don't know much about that subject. So, thanks for doing what you've been doing. A brilliant Sonic fanfic series that was tragically taken down by it creator is Harmony, Unity and Solidarity by StardustSpeedway. It’s 3 fics, first Harmony then Unity then Solidarity. If you google it you can find fans have saved and archived it. I loved their characterisation of Sonic and Shadow, I think they captured their personalities perfectly. And I love the lore the came up with for their series, it becomes so epic. The author was also working with an artist on an awesome looking Sonadow comic. I only discovered their works after they left the internet. I wish them the best though wherever they are now
