The project was already called "Project Shadow" but Maria was the one that decided to actually give it to him as a proper name after hearing the project title and making the "shadows show the path to the light" analogy.
Apparently, the reason why Gerald Robotnik named the project "Project Shadow" is because he had a lot of doubt that this project would work in helping cure Maria's NIDS, saying that pursuing this project is akin to "Trying to grab a shadow."

One more detail to tack on is that Black Doom's reason to eradicate humanity is that he actually wanted the larvae of his species to feast on all the paralyzed humans, he found out (god only knows how they found this out) that humans are the perfect food for making the strongest Black Arms soldiers, so that's why the paralysis gas was used.

This is such a fun refresher to Shadow's lore! Love the art as well, especially Shadow and Biolizard! I have been a huge Sonic and Shadow fan since I can remember and have played every single console game but mostly focused on the gameplay and music side of things. Now that they are taking the lore more seriously with Shadow Generations I am excited to explore more of it and this video is the perfect start.

In 06 it's confirmed/suggested/whathaveyou that Shadow has also been receiving months/years of training working under GUN *prior* to the events of the game, meaning it should still be true even once Sonic resets the timeline at the end.

I think Sonic Heroes is being undersold a little bit here. Because while not a lot happens for Shadow specifically, it does show the beginning of his alliance turned ride-or-die friendship with Rouge the Bat and E-123 Omega. It's honestly a shame Sonic '06 technically never happens, since it's such a crowning moment for Team Dark's bond and Shadow's conviction.
After watching the movie I got SOO into Shadow’s lore and character and everything, I’m still a kid(in high school) but I wish I watched the play throughs of the games back in my childhood to get to know Shadow earlier😭 Thankuuu for clearing up the lore, cuz with all the pieces of media there is now (I love all of it, I’m not complaining at all) it’s quite easy to get lost
i watched this as a huge shadow fan (i bought sonicxshadow gen purely for for shadow) and already knew a lot of his lore yet it is still a very good video
Some of this isn't really totally accurate since the new journal entries in Shadow Generations. The President was asking Gerald to create a means of becoming immortal, as a favor to trade for getting GUN to stop demanding that he make weapons. It didn't work because the United Federation and GUN aren't really directly related, GUN is an international military that doesn't belong to the UF. So now Gerald had to make a means of immortality and also make weapons, which is why he made artificial chaos.
Was very fun warching someone else gush about sonic lore (shadow focused) sonic has been part of my entire life since he came out keep being amazing and get a clip for that mic so you dont have to hold it the entire time lol
One thing to note is that Gerald coming across the mural in Hidden Palace Zone isn’t actually part of the lore. That’s just a widely accepted fan theory that I personally believe myself.

In 06 it's confirmed/suggested/whathaveyou that Shadow has also been receiving months/years of training working under GUN *prior* to the events of the game, meaning it should still be true even once Sonic resets the timeline at the end.

I think Sonic Heroes is being undersold a little bit here. Because while not a lot happens for Shadow specifically, it does show the beginning of his alliance turned ride-or-die friendship with Rouge the Bat and E-123 Omega. It's honestly a shame Sonic '06 technically never happens, since it's such a crowning moment for Team Dark's bond and Shadow's conviction.

After watching the movie I got SOO into Shadow’s lore and character and everything, I’m still a kid(in high school) but I wish I watched the play throughs of the games back in my childhood to get to know Shadow earlier😭

i watched this as a huge shadow fan (i bought sonicxshadow gen purely for for shadow) and already knew a lot of his lore yet it is still a very good video
Some of this isn't really totally accurate since the new journal entries in Shadow Generations. The President was asking Gerald to create a means of becoming immortal, as a favor to trade for getting GUN to stop demanding that he make weapons. It didn't work because the United Federation and GUN aren't really directly related, GUN is an international military that doesn't belong to the UF. So now Gerald had to make a means of immortality and also make weapons, which is why he made artificial chaos.
Was very fun warching someone else gush about sonic lore (shadow focused) sonic has been part of my entire life since he came out keep being amazing and get a clip for that mic so you dont have to hold it the entire time lol

One thing to note is that Gerald coming across the mural in Hidden Palace Zone isn’t actually part of the lore. That’s just a widely accepted fan theory that I personally believe myself.

Chao vs Maria - they were innocent beings who were mercilessly killed during a power struggle
Knuckles clan vs GUN - they were both power-hungry groups; the Knuckles clan wanted the 7 emeralds, while GUN wanted Project Shadow to gain power over the world
Tikal vs Shadow - they both witnessed what happened 4000 years/50 years ago, and in the present-day they worked to stop Chaos'/Gerald's attempt to destroy the world out of anger & revenge
