    Just a note... people saying this is not a "good gameplay" for 2024... well, it's an iGPU... integrated graphics... NO dGPU, 80-100W total package draw (CPU+GPU) and a 8c/16t for a better upgrade path. I myself stated in the conclusion that the 8700G needs to come down $50 IMO, but purely performance wise? APUs had an ENORMOUS step up with this series!

    • @user-cx5jj2yv3p
      @user-cx5jj2yv3p 4 месяца назад +8

      If it were cheaper itd be a tempting buy, but from an upgrade path perspective it doesn't support as many pcie lanes, so that is a bit of a concern 😅

    • @richardnpaul_mob
      @richardnpaul_mob 4 месяца назад +7

      It's a shame about the reduced cache which hampers FPS with discrete GPUs as the upgrade path makes less sense in that case (it's quite a big loss compared to say the 7700). HWU covered other options which cost the same but give far better gaming performance.
      Strix point is going to ramp up all of these results even higher later in the year so I'll look forward to your coverage of that 😊

      Think of it as a 5800x and an RX 6500. Also when you are done and ready to buy that 7950x3d and 4090 you can put the 8700G into your HTPC where it will be GREAT!
      I bought a 5700G in jan 2022. Cheapest 8-core available and I wanted to be a part of history (first 60 fps 1080p APU). I bought a 3070 TI for the same system! Now the 8700G is making history as a 90 fps 1080p APU - I'm glad that SOMEBODY understands what a big deal these iGPUs are!!! Get the best of both worlds with an AMD+NVidia system!!

      AMD has launched a good mobile APU, the most efficient APU for light portable game consoles and the first alternative to Apple Silicon's M2 Pro and M3. One of the best options to actually buy on x86 architecture. Not the joke that Meteor Lake represents if you compare the 40 years x86 development of cpus over the 3rd iteration on a custom ARM System on a Chip (Apples haas used intel, amd, ibm, risc, motorola and many custom chips over the years also). But is AMD's fault to launch a power hungry beast instead of the first APu in years capable of running without fans on a desktop or with only 2 fans (psu and the apu one) at max. Very welcome to see 260W capable silicon, but any 5500 + rx 6600 is faster and cheaper, and 5600G/5700G sare twice more efficient at stock settings... the unbalance between cpu and gpu is laughable when you realize is just little more than 5700 (the G without gpu) + rx 6400 refresh on 4nm... binning silicon is a thing but marketing overhype to justify expensive price... is cheaper than a mac mini, but it's not better overall, it trades blows sometimes but not the best apu on earth at all, better sometimes, maybe... it's just a seemengly desperate try to sell silicon not capable of Z1 Extreme and 7x4x mobile models, instead of a humble and honest desktop new line-up...

      @@AncientGameplays 4.05 GHz arm 9 of the Apple M3 is like Zen 4 at 5.7 GHz (or 5.1 GHz with x3D cache) or Intel 7 Some Lake and Some Cove at 6GHz. The 5.1 Ghz of Z1 Extreme is really impressive on the 9W to 45W in single thread and multithread (once you make room for power), the 5.3 GHz on PBO/OC and 3.1 Ghz gpu OC at 260W, just ridicoulus, not enough L2 cache, L3 cache and no x3D cache... even 8600G is -11% FPS only for -25% cores.... (or +10% FPS upgrade for +33% more cores). They are streching it to Intel 7 14th gen levels if not wasting much more electricity...
      AMD's ryzen APU's on Zen1, Zen2 to Zen3 on Vega had exactly the same limit of gpu being limited by cpu clock, cache, core, tdp heat budet, memory... to the level than Vega 8 or Vega 12 may perfrom like Vega 6 or Vega 8 with Zen+1 gen cpu... they should launch proper APU with 36CU (Ps5, rx6700 or 6750gre 10Gb like) or with 72 (or 60 at least) 16GB and 256 bit memory bus, 128 minimum with x3d infinity cache... on the 100 to 200W range... they do on Server Epyc. And Blam M3 Max, M3 ultra to the bin of history or to lower prices... it's time you put 4 dimms of ram and goes faster on home PC...

      If Sony could make portable PS4/Pro with custom motherboard and upgraded PS4 operative system we will end with a pocket size PS4/Pro Ps5 lite when optimized, but shared memory bus of 64 bit is a no go... is like homage to Nvidia's 1030 ddr4

      @@Mr11ESSE111 8700G were destined to be garbage. Bear in mind the difference. But by launching this product they don't lose the oportunity of making $3.000.000 per sqare meter of silicon waffer of chips... is cheaper than any Intel chip ended in 900. you won't find how good they actually are to build minipc with cheapest components on the market, neither than ddr5 5200 oem recommended support in fact is a detuned (i guess virtually with no hardware or microcode real limitation) of the ddr5 5600 and LPddr5 7500 it was intended for as Phoenix Zen 4 chip... you can build a sub 100W or I guess below 75W with ssd, 16gb of jedec ram, one fan ... not a 22W MAc mini, but fully upgradable and serviceable... for a fraction of the cost...is better than other AM5 chips except in perfromance... and also can't compete with 7500F, 7800x3d or 7950x for cpu intensive tasks, only save enrgy to EPYC server levels...without paying $15000 for a pro setup...very difficult to actually explain what is actually good and waht is not without compromising AMD other lineup, lack of competiotion against Nvidia and Intel or so far from Apple closed but better hardware... Zen 3 5500 + rx 6400 is faster, better cheaper and can be tuned to similar stock TDP (not lower to ZEn4 Phoenix levels) or rx6000 (if playing is a thing and you want double the FPS). Is very good deal for 2024 playing in corerct settings, and emulators....most bang for the watt for the buck... better than obsolete hw as you mention, but 8600G and 8700G are almost there with a A620 mb cheapest ram and less power... not better FPS or perfromance...but it makes for 1 fan PC entry level almost PS4 gaming 10 years later...

      There not problem with games. There a problem with cost. APU at Ryzen 2000-5000 series has a strong point - waiting without videocard for end of mining boom. But now this gone - there is a plenty of videocards on sale. Other point of APU - using for menial task without discrete videocard - also gone - we have Ryzen 7000-series with iGPU that not so good but still usable for menial task and this CPU have normal PCIE lines and cash so better for future upgrade.
      The point for media PC also now charged by Ryzen APU 5000-series on am4 platform - they not so fast but still good and far more cheaper then Ryzen 8000-APU on am5. So older APU compete on this side better.

    I know this is not high end gaming but damn, we've come a long way. Back in the day, when integrated gpus came in the motherboard, not the cpu, you couldn't run fck all with it. they were useless. A 2005 igpu performed like a 1996 GPU. and that was a massive gap that made them useless for anything but "retro gaming". Nowadays you can run basically anything on an Igpu, even if you have to compromise somewhat. The "year gap" in performance remains the same, more or less, but now that doesn't matter much because 10 year old gpus are still usable. That's pretty cool.

      you understand that 8700g performance are basically cripled on 5800x level maybe few percent better but in some cases its worse too !! this igpu are not on 6600/xt level then like i sayed rx 6400 level if that and rx 6400 are pretty weak gpu in 2024 @@madmaxmel

    I've been using a Beelink SER7 miniPC that has the 780m as a multimedia/retro emulator for a month now. I'm thouroughly impressed at the leap in iGPU performance with this chip. If AMD can keep up the pace year over year, rather than every few years, their iGPUs could become insanely competitive at even higher graphic fidelity. I believe we have AMD's work on consoles & handhelds to thank for this honestly.

    60 fps on AC in 1080p. Damn. APUs are going places. Can't wait to see what 2027/28 gen APUs bring to the table. It's been rumored that they will replace the low end GPUs

    Hmm a very interesting processor indeed, makes me wonder how the 8700G performs with a RX 7800 XT or even a RX 7900 XTX, would the A780M work in combination with a discrete GPU as in the form of Hybrid CFX?
    an 8700 G X3D might also be an interesting idea an APU with 3D V-Cache, not sure how that would pack out.
    The NPU part will also play an interesting role, once games take use of it.
    Thanks for this game test tho I passed it on in my community.
