Actually, it was Ronda who slipped on logic. The woman was referring to the Australian National teams, who are amateur and receive support (pay) from taxpayers. If either of those teams were paid according to "the money they bring in" (Ronda's logic), they'd both be paid nothing. And, Ronda should have known better, since she comes from amateur sport. If anyone noticed, Ronda was lowkey pissed being asked that question - and there's really good justification for it. The idea that someone paid Ronda really highly to try and "break free" of the inequalities of the pay gap trivializes the amount of effort Ronda put into getting to where she is. Literally the question asked assumes that Ronda did not do anything to get highly paid, but because she was a woman and that the company paying her was pro-"equality".
Yep, and that is the disconnect with reality and 3rd wave feminist thinking. Women's soccer players want the same as the men's teams because they "showed up". Yeah, economics doesn't work like that. Men's teams earn more because they bring in more.....again, economics 101. With the U.S. women's team they chose their contract. It was either get the lower, guaranteed money, or the chance for more, BUT ONLY IF you brought in more. The men's team chose the latter and they made more money even though they weren't as successful. The women got the guaranteed money that they signed up for....but now the women's team wants to cry "foul"???? You picked the contract you wanted sweetie, so that's what you get. It would seem the women want a "do over". Business doesn't work like that. I be there are lots of folks who wish they would have bought MicroSoft and Amazon stock when it was first offered too......but you don't get to go back and buy it today for the same price it was initially offered at. Oh, and the Australian women's team, which was top 3 or 4 in the world going into the Rio Olympics got beat by a team of 15 and under boys......7-0 in a game prior to the Games. Losing 7-0 in soccer match is an epic azz-whoop'in..... The American women's team got beat by a boys team in the 15-17 year old range as well.
@@tidefanyankee2428 the problem is that the economics of a wage gap doesnt work once its a spectator sport. Like a man and woman that got hired at wallmart with the same previous experience for the same job should be earning the same thing at the very least to start off, 99% of people agree wth that. Once you put this in a spectator scenario it stops working like that. any kind of "star" is paid based on how popular they are/how good they are. thats all.
@@masterreaper115 Pay can be based on the contract you sign as well. If you tie your pay potential to the amount of money you bring in then sky's the limit. If you take money that is guaranteed then that's it.....that is what your earnings will be, popular or not. One is safer, the other has more potential. Many salespeople take jobs where they work on commission. If you work on commission and you make LOTS of sales then your income will be higher than if you work for and hourly wage. So no, that's not "all". It also depends on who is defining the word "good". Good for who, what, where and at what level? My female colleague dont do that and you think the company should pay the same as mine.? Not fair. Its not a pay gap, it's just you earn the pay.
Good man. This is absolutely it. In my very first corporate job; I worked alongside a woman who handled 3-4 roles all at the same time. She was very simple and unsophisticated in many ways but my god did she put in a shift! Always in early, always taking care of one thing or another... she ran the show and the boss absolutely knew it, much as he didn't want to admit it. Her technical skills out of school were limited but she learned everything she could after work, calling people she knew had the knowledge she wanted to learn, Etc. She must be in her 20th year there... worked far longer than any man or woman bar the supremo himself. If she'd stayed in a rut and not broadened her technical skillset in her own private time; I doubt she'd have had the successive promotions she's had. It was a great lesson for me.
My point exactly. I work 10 hours a day in construction, so I get paid more. Sometimes I work 7 days. It is not that women cannot work construction or that they aren't strong or that they shouldn't work construction. The thing is that at the end of the day, I see more guys working harder jobs for longer hours. There are other guys who beat me with 12 to 14 hours. We get paid based on our effort and hours and willingness to leave other things for later and focusing on work.
Bruh that's obviously logical. Equal pay is for equal work, not for being a man or a woman. Please don't accept twisted info by people who just want money for nothing. The problem in my place is women aren't paid equal even for doing equal work. That's what real humans are fighting for.
Not exactly... they are paid according to the VALUE they bring (value can be income or something else) and the number of people that can do their job equally good ! Two small nuances but the later is quite important... if someone generate a lot of value with his job but I can find 10 000 people that would do their job equally good, well, I'm sure in those 10 000 of people, I would be able to find someone that would accept to do the job for less money (that's why a lot of US company produce their goods in China btw)
@@bertrandronge9019 Sorry, but I think you are missing the point, and perhaps being a bit disingenuous. The term VALUE can have different meanings to different people. Feminists (and those who follow them) will argue that the VALUE is equal to the VALUE generated by others performing the same task, which is the crux of the WNST lawsuit. However, MOST if not ALL organizations or companies that EMPLOY WORKERS (which is essentially what the PLAYERS are to them) consider VALUE as relative to the amount of REVENUE they generate for their EMPLOYERS. The MEN'S team generates MUCH MUCH more REVENUE than the WOMEN'S team. Are the MEN'S team supposed to subsidize the WOMEN'S team? I've read that to pay the WOMEN'S team as much as the MEN'S team, they would need to be paid MORE than the amount of REVENUE the WOMEN generate! Secondly, when Megan Rapinoe claims that the WOMEN'S team is performing the same job, that's not quite true. They are playing the same SPORT, which is a whole another matter. She uses the argument that they have won multiple World Cups while the MEN'S team has struggled, but doesn't that presume that the level of competition is equal? They may be able to dominate all the other WOMEN'S teams, but I highly suspect that the outcome would be different if they were heads up against ANY of the MEN'S teams. Lastly, think of it this way. When I was 10 years old, Paul McCartney released his first solo album on which he played all the instruments and sang all the vocals. At the time, I remember thinking that was so cool and that someday I would like to do the same thing too. As time went on, I became a multi-instrumentalist, invested in the equipment and taught myself just enough engineering to be able to do it. As a matter of fact, I have recorded four CD'S worth of music where I am the only performer. So I ask you - since I did the same exact job as he did, shouldn't I have earned millions of dollars from music also? You see how silly that argument sounds? P.S. The WOMEN'S team were offered the EXACT SAME CONTRACT as the MEN and they turned it down...
@@jeffthebracketman Funny to have someone telling me that I'm missing the point or that I'm disingenuous while they completely miss the point of my comment. 1. I gave you the generic answer to how is define someone salary 2. About VALUE, I used value for the obvious reason that for a lot of jobs, you are not able to determine the revenue generated. You talk about soccer player, tell me how you can know how much a single player generate revenue ? Because of what the team generate revenue ? Ok but what is the part of THAT single player in that revenue ? How much is the part of the marketing department ? How much is the part of the manager/coach of the team ? That's the obvious reason why we use VALUE, it's arbitrary but an employee or a player can ofc not bring more value that what the company he's working for generate as revenue ! 3. You said "I have recorded four CD'S worth of music where I am the only performer. So I ask you - since I did the same exact job as he did, shouldn't I have earned millions of dollars from music also? You see how silly that argument sounds?" @@bertrandronge9019 I normally don’t get into troll wars but in this case I’ll make an exception. Only two points for you to ponder - .1 is that let’s say you were running a business; would you be able to pay your employees more than the amount of money you made from them? And point two - by using the phrase “they can do their job equally good“ you just prove my point for me because most people would consider Paul McCartney one of the best musicians alive therefore he’s able to earn much more money from selling his music where is I can’t generate that kind of revenue because no one knows who I am outside of a small circle of musicians. So therefore since he can generate the amount of interest Or fans you might put it he can earn much more money than I. That’s the argument against the equal pay claims by the women’s soccer team. The men’s team earns much much more money for the organization so they are able to be paid more accordingly. The women bring in much less revenue so they are not able to be paid the same as the men. Finally perhaps you might want to brush up on your reading comprehension because in my post script I pointed out quite rightly that the women’s team were offered the same exact contract as the men’s team and they turned it down because they wanted the security of a guaranteed paycheck. The men’s team were willing to risk a pay for a play situation. The women’s team only became butt hurt when they realized that they would’ve gotten paid more under the men’s deal, Which would be interesting because the men could then sue the soccer Federation because they could’ve gotten paid more under the women’s deal. Even if the big name actor only has a cameo part with relatively few scenes (translated to less work shooting), they still get paid more than an unknown person who might be in more scenes. +trha2222 That might be because no one gives a fuck about women's soccer.
+trha2222 Men's soccer is the #1 sport in the world, not women's. They get paid accordingly for the ratings, sponsors and attendance.
+trha2222 That equates to about 1c per spectator then.
+trha2222 I know in the world cup women got paid proportionally higher but unfortunately that still resulted in much less money than the men because the men generate far more revenue.
+trha2222 No shit? Nobody is fucking watching women's soccer. Wake up.
You might be the best bowler or golfer in a small town in a rural area, but that doesn't mean you're good enough to be on the pro bowler's or PGA tour.
The area where it can balance out is in endorsements.
@@tidefanyankee2428 no... the us women's soccer team brought in more revenue and actually won the championship whereas the men's team just did total shit in the regular season. so why do women get paid less if they brought in more money?
@@jj-uv4rf OK, I'll play along, let's say you're right and the women's team brought in more money. The women agreed to the guaranteed money, it's the contract they signed. The men went with the other option which was based on how much men's soccer (the world cup) brought in. The women signed and agreed to the contract THEY chose. Look it up, Google is your friend.

Latrell Darwish It’s truly hard to fathom their argument, it really is. Put the product on the field/pitch/arena/whatever; and you’ll be compensated. It really is that simple. Do your job well, or above average; and you’ll be paid accordingly. It’s already the law in all western countries. In the corporate world, there’s literally nothing holding you back from working 110 hour weeks, including Saturdays and Sundays; and making $150,000+ a year. Male or female. People think that “the 1%” fall out of bed one day into a pile of money. It’s there for everyone’s taking. Doesn’t matter gender, doesn’t matter who or what you “identify” as today.
Huh? I've never heard of a company differentiating between base pays....you must referring to your bonuses
Bruh that's obviously logical. Equal pay is for equal work, not for being a man or a woman. Please don't accept twisted info by people who just want money for nothing.
The problem in my place is women aren't paid equal even for doing equal work. That's what real humans are fighting for.
A classic video clip. Always a pleasure to watch it again.
Exactly: a person is paid according to the income that he or she generates.
You see how silly that argument sounds?" I will reply by quoting what I said "that can do their job EQUALLY GOOD"... so either you don't get that all the words matters either you are here pretending that your music was as good as Paul McCartney music... can you tell me who sounds ridiculous now ? lol
@@bertrandronge9019 I normally don’t get into troll wars but in this case I’ll make an exception. Now tell me who sounds ridiculous?

I mean working harder doesn't equal more viewers
So did I. But there are 2 types:
1. Equality driven people for women’s rights
2. Pro woman, anti men
They should be differentiated
Not at all what Roussey said. Her line was more "you get paid more if you bring more value". Nothing at all about working harder or less hard.
You find a good analogy in the movie business. The big name actor almost always gets higher pay than the one no one has ever heard of. Even if the big name actor only has a cameo part with relatively few scenes (translated to less work shooting), they still get paid more than an unknown person who might be in more scenes. The reason is that the big name actor is a draw card for the movie, and people in general are more likely to go and see it because it features that big name actor.
not exactly "work hard at it" : it's not because you work hard that you get a lot of money, and it's not because you make a lot of money that you work hard. I'm certain that the female soccer players work just as hard as the male ones it's just that they have yet to developp an audience.
