Wow.. Me and my wife travelled in this train in April 2019. Got down at Hida Furukawa. Enjoyed the yearly lively and lovely festival. The people were wonderful. Also pretty village. Then boarded again at Hida Furukawa for Toyama. Loved this train. Then enjoyed the snow-laden corridor.
Truly excellent…I had no idea that Japanese Railways had alpine type mountain railways! Superb engineering too…a great treat. Many thanks fromRob In Bournemouth on the south coast of England.
Hi railfan aunz, thank you my friend for providing me with this successful and pleasurable glimpse into the rail cars of Japan country, which has the most successful high-speed rails globally.
It's one of the programs under JET (which is open to native English speakers from outside Japan), where you can be hired to record for various businesses (including bus and train networks) under a government contract. Although unlike the ALT side of JET, you need to be at least an N2 rating on the JLPT to qualify for that position.
@@streetvideos260 no kidding. School kids would rush over and take my picture and autograph like I was from Mars or something. And it was affordable then.
I took this train Takayama with my family, three generations, it was one of the highlights of our trip to Japan. Three plus hours of visual entertainment and pleasure! Crossing and recrossing the river was spectacular. Simply wonderful!
60 tunnels What a lot of work that went into building that particular rail line. And given that line's age it wasn't an easy feat to plan and then dig out. Missed riding this line from Nagoya to Toyama, usually riding this everytime, but eventually changed to bus much cheaper by bus. But the scenery on this line is Superb as always!
Beautiful scenery. Wish it were in early spring where you could see everything from the blooming spring flowers and foliage to maybe a possible snowfall. Too bad you don't get to see anything special during their festival in April. Keep up the good work, Railfan Aunz!Arigato!
Did you travel the route last Feb? My trip to Japan was ruined by this frigging Corona situation. I was supposed to be in Tokyo last April, then ride with the Shinkansen all the way down to Kagoshima. That all went wrong, though now I'm planning a new trip, possibly next fall.
I wish I knew a limited express was available. The one I rode stopped at every station and we had to wait 30 minutes for another train to pass. We took the Tokaido line from Hamamatsu and took the Takayama main line from Gifu. The whole trip took 11 hours. On the way back, we actually rode a bus to Nagoya and took the Tokaido line to Hamamatsu. The whole trip only took 8 hours. My back was killing me on the first trip and I’m never doing that again.

A smooth and speedy ride through plains and hilly regions. This cab view is a good one as the driver was out of our viewing area, and our ride was thus not disturbed by his gestures and physical presence and movements. [Cab view trains should switch on their lights when in a tunnel, because you can't see a thing in the dark.]
A lot of this reminds me of Appalachia in parts of eastern Kentucky and western West Virginia. I get why the Japanese have been interested in that area over the years because of the land.
Another great Japanese cab view video from this channel! I was wondering, can anyone explain the large yellow structures on the river bank and either side of the line at 1:25:38?
They appear to be "can openers", structures that an over height vehicle would hit before the bridge. It took me a few tries to see, but it looks like there's another road lane under the big arms on the river side, and the arms on both sides are marked with the clearance height (3.8m on the hillside, 4.4 under the big arms).
