I must confess, despite being a professional railwayman, I never have understood the decisions on runing two car trains everywhere up north when they are always full to standing. Down South, the majority of TOCs now run at least 8 cars everywhere. My regular service on Thameslink is a 12 car. It has been like that up north for decades. I remember trips on old DMUs of the 1980s, which were two car, always packed, occasionally a three car would turn up. Spent many a trip travelling from Cleethorpes to Doncaster in a rammed two car DMU. Watching a rush hour service at Leeds was always good for seeing full trains. At least you managed to get a seat on your journey. Priority seats are great for long legged giants like myself. Great Vlog, not sure about the ending though. Ray xx
Hi Ray, as a now retired signalman, I agree with your comments. I do wonder if T.F.W. are trying to discourage folks from using their trains. For the last few weeks they have seen fit to run buses all the way from Shrewsbury to Machynlleth, a. 2 hour journey, great for people with luggage, pushchairs etc. the old railway managers must be turning in their graves. 😮

Hi G, great vlog again, someone in TfW's planning dept. needs a kick up the arse, 2 coaches is disgusting, never been to Cardiff must put it on my bucket list it looks superb. The hotel looks nice as well. The scenery on the route was sublime and beautiful, I think that the 'yellow' fields are sunflowers. Looking forward to part 2, stay safe u 2
I've stayed twice in Cardiff and both times was at the Premier Inn Cardiff Central hotel which in part of Helmont House which was used for the Doctor Who episode Partners In Crime and that same episode was filmed on the road outside the hotel Churchill Way
Hi G, those yellow flowers you like are a plant called Rapeseed. A commercial crop commonly known as Oil seed Rape as the seeds are used to produce vegetable cooking oil, hence the name oil seed. Now you know 👍.
Rapeseed oil is also used a lot in bio-diesel to make them more 'green'. Although I'm environmentally inclined, that's a lot of hogwash, if you ask me.
Shame that it was a 2 coach train between Manchester and Cardiff while the Crewe to Chester Shuttle is 3 coaches! Plus didn't help that it was the May Bank Holiday. Great video G and cannot wait for the other half (which I didn't realise there was a 'next week' until I saw it in the corner because the editing was epic)

I do agree they shouldve used the 150/2 on the shuttles but yeah cos of a defect they only have a limited 175 fleet until the fleet is fixed or they get rest ofthe new trains and start full tfw class 197 set diagram services etc
Hi G, I’m glad you highlighted the over crowded 150 unit. This train and many others on this route run full and standing day after day. Transport for Wales are a joke, they should not be running anything less than 3 coaches on the main Cardiff - Manchester route, they could at least tag a 153 unit onto the 150…they have enough of them….but no, they are happy to treat passengers like cattle 🐄….actually, they’d get done if they transported animals like that. Nice one. x
Great vlog G I still remember last year’s vlog on your trip down to Cardiff. TFW putting a 2 car 150 to Cardiff is a joke. They need to put more carriages on, just a heads up if you go to Cardiff again From Crewe the 1510 service is a loco Hauled set with loads more seating and 4 carriages. The hotel looks cool and great to see Lucy with you! I enjoyed watching as always.
I’ve been on trains that are so busy with lots of people and no seats available. But more people are using trains and the more people use trains means that there is no chance of getting a seat. Especially in rush hour. Even when I sometimes use Greater Anglia and c2c it’s always as packed.
The best view on the entire Crewe to Cardiff route is of Stokesay Castle between Craven Arms and Ludlow stations. It's that stone and timber-framed fortified manor house you can see from the train quite clearly. I'll try and go there and do a short film of it one day, if I get the chance.
