- Explore Cardiff & Valleys Day Ranger (28/09/22). I spent the day riding with TfW, hopping off and on to trains, checking out various stations in the South Wales Valleys.

Love the positivity in these videos. Finding such joy in everyday things is a lesson to us all. Keep it going GLovesTrains 👍
Thanks a lot!
I love it
Why do I feel that, somewhere in the world, there is a Mr & Mrs Island who have a son named Barry.
That comment got a smile from me!
Great Video, and yes, 150269 + 270 have been bought over as 2 TFW sets became fire damaged earlier this year at Craven Arms
Bore da G.
Mae'n wych eich gweld chi allan dro ar ôl tro yng Nghymru eto 😎❤
What G. No knickers on your head song! Miss that.
But great vlog as always. Stay safe.
Well done. Keep it up!
That is the Raydr Weir, I've been there myself and a nice area being honest, Do like the Cardiff and the Valleys ticket. Great video G
Thanks Cyber! 😁
Live up the valleys that train runs behind my house and river love your vlogs 🇮🇪🤘🏴
I remember venturing on the road to Cardiff Bay when it was all derelict teerace housing and overgrown wasteland. It's come on a bit, eh?
Imagine this girl on one of those makeover shows, a total stunner 😍
Wow Cardiff Bay ohhh memories great video again 👏
Very interesting and enjoyable as ever. Nice part of the world.
Brilliant vlog and love watching your vlogs ❤️ @glovestrains plus pacers at wensleydale railway
Excellent. I’m a quarter Welsh with links to the Valleys. It’s on my plans to explore the Valleys by train soon .
The Tragic state of Cardiff now. Shame they moved the bus station. Another grand video. 👍
Cheers, im looking to do one of these rangers end of this week, keep well.
Fantastic trip round again love this area spent many a time spotting in Bridgend car park when on holiday in Southerndown 5 miles south on the coast, brilliant Cardiff the memories come flooding back thanks G for your wonderful Vblog see ya again next week 👍🙂
Great video, most enjoyable watching.
i've used that day ranger every time i go to Cardiff Central
Magnificent G
Don’t think I’ll ever get bored of watching your vlogs G👍🏻..vibrant and makes you wanna get up and go and explore…also I agree about Cardiff bay 😎love it there
That explains why I saw a Northern 150 on the Borderlands line between Bidston and Upton a couple of weeks ago which is always TFW trains. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a Northern Rail train on that line before in nearly 40 years of living by the line so thought it was a bit strange.
Great vid G! The railcard thing is legit, £12 minimum fare when using a 16-25 railcard before 10am on weekdays. Hope you get to do west Wales at some point
You know, I had a really bad day at work, came home and watched this, not a bad day after all
I'm visiting Cardiff in three weeks time, and hoping to do some exploring by train, so this is very helpfull!
Fantastic to see you doing a Valleys Rover and great to see Penarth featuring......I live just a short walk from the pier. There are Next bikes based in quite a few areas around Penarth..... some of them are electric too!
I had a go on an e one in Cardiff 👌
@@GLovesTrains Ha brilliant! I've yet to try one. Could do with trying one down the old railway line I mentioned to you a while back that carries on from Penarth station
I remember when the 769s were 319s
I do hope that TfW will keep the Class 769s or if not then I think they should be cascaded to GWR or Northern.
That beach is so beautiful and peaceful looking! 😎
Excellent as usual , Im impressed you like the 769s the problem child seems to get such a bad press but never had a bad run on one
The music gave me MSP vibes, which was very fitting, and quite possibly intended 👍
Hi GLovesTrains. Another great vid. I was amazed to see the electrification masts at Radyr. I didn't realize that the work was so advanced. Great to see the beautiful Penarth again. And finally, Cardiff Bay. I understand that TFW are about to begin a major refurb of this station.👍
Awesome video G Love Trains
Fantastic to ride along the valley lines G yes the two fire damaged 150's were damaged in a collision with a stolen digger its very nice at Barry island its strange to see the overhead wires as they weren't there the last time I went thank you for this very interesting vlog G enjoy the rest of your holidays ❤❤❤❤
Thanks Stuart! I loved it 😁
Two TFW 150s were severely damaged at Craven Arms when a tractor (or similar) was deliberately left on the tracks by vandals.
Great video again G wait till you try Northerns 170’s on the Harrogate line, you should be on them now in fact as they love sliding about with slippery rails 🤣😂
Loved the video g
I really enjoyed this video G. I done all the Welsh valleys several years ago, just before the pacers disappeared and the valleys were far more scenic than I expected. I also loved Torchwood 😃
🙂 awesome
Fantastic video as always
I fricken luv Cardiff !!
The best thing about Penarth Pier is being able to get fish and chips from the little fish and chip shop half way down it and sit eating them worrying your fish and chips will get blown away!
(ooh maybe there's a video idea, a compare and contrast between the tiny fish and chip stall on Penarth Pier and the massive fish and chip restaurant on Cleethorpes Pier)
deffinitely buying myself a day ranger.didnt even realise they still existed !!
Nice work 👍
Welcome back to Wales GLoves we've missed you. Kind regards Mark-Edwyn 🚂🚃🚃
The TFW Class 170s were formally with Greater Anglia if I recall.
Trains Station 🚉
Amazing video, one of my all time favourite rangers to do on TFW! :)
Wow these videos are recorded massively in advanced 🤣 7:28 I was the conductor who was in your way when you was trying to get to the door if you remember that far back! Thought it was you when I seen you get off in grange.
Great video g
Great to see you in South Wales, G! Hope you had a lovely holiday-time.
Bridgend on a Valley lines Rover?
I'd keep that quiet haha😂
Great video. Shame there's no Pacers anymore. I miss those trains.
Bridgend is allowed on the Valley Lines Day Explorer as is Maesteg! There's a map showing the validity of the ticket on tfw.wales.
Great choice of ticket, Barry island looks amazing wonderful video again love the scenery great editing again 👍👍✅✅
Travelled on the valley lines all my life my late dad was a guard on the valleys back in the 70s when the services were operated by the old 116 units the 150 were space age when they were new 35 years ago !!!!
❤❤❤❤❤
Trust you to find a Northern train! Really enjoyed the scenery out of the windows during the journey. Looks like some lovely places to go for walks.
didn't think Cardiff Bay was that nice......might try it myself soon......well in la
Love this….enjoyed seeing lots of Gavin and Stacey locations in and around Barry Island, brill video x
Great vlog G. Some really nice scenery. I have done a few stations down in the valleys now back on my summer holiday in July and I must say in the summer months the Cardiff bay & Barry island trains are very busy. I enjoyed watching as always.
You musta gone on a busy day haha, they're never that packed for me 😂
@@GLovesTrains it was a hot day too about 26c I think it brought load’s of people out.
Fantastic stuff - not a part of wales I know well but thank you for taking us with you
awesome vlog im loving everywere thats featured in this vlog and im thinking about holidaying n Cardiff in may next year and ill def keep the places and this ticket as an idea and im loving the class 769 ive yet to ride one in diesel as ive only ridden one in electric mode maby TFW will be the first one as Northern was the first electric mode ive ridden anyway awesome vlog keep up the awesome work
Great Video G, Glad you managed to get a TFW Class 170 done, as they're expected to move to EMR in the not too distant future.👍
Cheers Luke!
Should be tram-trains between Cardiff Central and Cardiff Bay happening around Spring 2024! Also faster and more frequent trains overall on the core Valley lines, but I don't know when that starts.
I've been to Barry Island and Cardiff Bay before but never by train. Both lovely places to visit. That ticket situation at the beginning of the video you mentioned seemed a bit odd not using a railcard at a certain time. Great video G. Enjoy your time in Wales. 🙂
Ooh! You went to Barry island and didn’t visit Marco’s to see if Stacey was working or visit the amusements to see Nessa? I’ll be there now in a minute!
Great vid as always. Have happy/terrifying memories from Barry Island… went on the pirate boat ride with my brother… I wasn’t really tall enough to get on at the time, so when the safety bar came down it didn’t even come close to me… spent the whole ride feeling like I was going to fall out!
This was yet another fantastic Vlog G the scenery along this part of Wales is absolutely stunning Cardiff Bay is definitely a place to visit and it certainly looked like you caught a fantastic sunset there too enjoy your holiday in Wales carry on being awesome keep up the good work take care and stay safe
Great to see the trips I do regularly on my local railways. One of the best little systems rail I know. Keep visiting as being extended and frequency increased. I have a challenge for you. Can you walk faster than the train ? From Pontlottyn to Merthyr Tydfil. Pass old railways , secret railway on top of an mountain and a coal mine twinned with Mordor.
Brilliant vlog G, South Wales is amazing, still not done Barry island yet but I'd love to do it sometime. You must of got tired of seeing these 150's down there all the time lol. Nice to see you got to ride a Welsh Class 769 and I can confirm that they are far cleaner than the Northern ones so they would probably be not so filthy buggers lol. Even the Class 319's as they all started out as were cleaner during their days on the Brighton Main line which I remember very well. Also that Welsh Turbostar is deffo less busy than most of the CrossCountry ones that serve Leicester lol.
Thanks for the video G, love the ride around and must go to Barry Island 🏝. A mix of trains there, l just love them all. The nickers looked a bit smaller than normal did you shrink them in the wash!!😎🚃🚃🚃🇬🇧💚
Haha ney I dont wash them 😂
Amazing video glovestrain question what is your favourite place you like travel on the trains
Merthyr Tydfil, Cardiff Central, Bridgend and Grangetown are sort of regulars for me.
Have to watch the tickets if Im heading to Grangetown via Cardiff Central as getting a split ticket works out a LOT cheaper!
Love this video but ( G ) you’ll looking tired take it easy ok ✅❤️❤️
#GlovesWelshTrains
with a 16-25 young persons railcard there is a £12.00 minimum spend for travel/tickets purchased/used before 10.00am on weekdays so the ticket office was correct. no restrictions at weekends.
Some ideas post Royal Mint visit this weekend!
Hey G how you doing luv x ....great video x 💯💯😊
That 170 is ex GA and I've been on that one and yes the ex GA ones are better than a lot of the others
the 170 your riding in the video is a ex greater anglia 170 and its still in its old GA colour schem
Snottytastic video as always.
Gavin and Stacey at Barry Island.
Sadly that Northern 150s isn't going to Southport via the Wigan 😊
Depends which railcard you're using, but for most it's valid from 0930 Mon-Fri with no restrictions at weekends or BH's.
You should do the Elizabeth Line and Bond Street as the Elizabeth Line is in full operation. I do think that TfW will introduce the new Class 197, Class 231, Class 398 and Class 756 trains from next year and to phase out the older trains. Keep up the good work 😊
Including the Class 170 Turbostars that have been cascaded to East Midlands Railway. And Class 175 that might be kept or to be replaced and cascaded elsewhere or to be stored.
Great vlog, G! I like how you made the music work in this one. Am I right in thinking that you've now ridden on every class of train that TfW currently operate (before all the new ones come in over the next couple of years)?
Urrr... yes I believe I have! Thanks barrowc 😁
As a train geek who lives miles away from the UK, perhaps you can explain how to buy these Day Rangers. Spending the day futzing around on trains sounds like something fun to do!
Buy them at a ticket office
Yeah ask for them at the ticket office 👍
I really enjoyed watching this, and you certainly made the most of your day ranger ticket. I'm glad that you managed to have a ride on a TFW class 170 and a (not so) filthy b*gg* r .
Fun fact: Gilfach Fargoed station (which you saw on the information display on the class 769) has the shortest platforms in Wales and I believe the only request stop on the Valley Lines network
Is it really?! I did not know that!
Croeso y gymru G
Cardiff City is a amazing city . Did u look around Cardiff. Hope u had a good Wales train ride x I live in bridgend. What did u like about bridgend
how did you make Bridgend look nice LOL even the locals call it buttend lol
could you do a video where you explore newcastle and the north east
Great video. Why is there a Class 43 in Cardiff station?
Can I use my 16-25 Railcard at any time of day?
Yes you can. However, for all journeys made between 4:30am and 10:00am Monday to Friday a minimum fare of £12 is payable. There is no minimum fare when you travel at weekends, on Public Holidays, or during July and August.
Do you plan to do all stations along the valley lines in the future?
i have a really fucked story about Cardiff which i'll condense abit.... so i am half welsh first off..... i went on my own to see feeder at a festy type thing the full ponty 2007 maybe anyway got stuck in cardiff over night but i thought fuck it i'll ruff it, but as i was walking around i seen quite a few fights go off, one guy because he was english so at this point i took out about £100 went to a cabby said help me find a room we tried but it was late and also a rugby weekend so now im walking about with load of cash on me as well feeling paranoid so i sat in the bus station as people were catching shuttle buses to the air port its lit and has seats fairly safe... so a coach came took everyone away bar one and me, he then laughed like a crazy person.. but then started speaking to me and seemed ok he said he had a bed sit around the corner, this was strange because another lad i'd had a conversation with in the bas station earlier had said the same thing, i looked away then looked back at him and he was putting lipstick on...... freaked i just stood up said i've gotta go...... what i think i've decided is,, ive got a bed sit around the corner is local lingo for "im a fuckin rent boy are you lookin for business", and late night cardiff thats where they operate, i had other funny things happen that night, but not in that way... but i think thats enough for one comment
Hi have you ever gone Cardiff to Hartfield Sussex ?
Would you be able to do the coryton line?
Do you realise that a class 769 is just an updated version of a filthy bugger class 319
I’m really very upset and I’m don’t know u went in Cardiff 2 days ago, why u don’t talk me, I’m trying talk u communication,I’m very upset today
Dumb American here - know that you are in Wales but I have never heard of some of these places - save Cardiff. Your rail network there shames our US systems. Chicago (here) has Metra but not all routes run 6 or 7 days a week. I luckily live a half block from the BNSF route (21 miles from Chicago) which operates from about 530am to midnight.
