Hey brother, what do you think is the best to use over epoxy resin to sign for a autograph, very nervous about it was thinking about posca, deco color,Molowtow. But would love to hear your thoughts and could send a picture of the piece if needed.
@WelzieArt hey was wondering if sharpies oil based pen had acidus ingredients that can sink into the epoxy writing over it cause have heard the regular sharpies can do such
Acrylic will work on skateboards. The level of quality will be base on how well the acrylic sticks. Is the skateboard sanded? Does it have a varnish over the wood. Does it have a decal? If what your drawing on is oil based then you should use oil based marker. varnish or oil based ink on the design will not allow acrylic to adhere very well. Try out a little on a piece of the board and see if works. Hope this helps
It depends on what your signing. If you’re signing aluminum prints you need the oil based. If canvas or paper you can use oil or acrylic pens. I haven’t noticed the oil based sharpie fading yet. To me they seem like they last longer. Have fun and stay inspired 🤙🏼
I have used Zig Painty FX markers in the past on photos, and they worked pretty well. Can anyone tell me if they are acrylic or oil? I have one here, and it just says "Xylene Freee" and "Alcohol-based pigment ink". (I am still going to apply the lesson I learned from your other video, and store this pen horizontally from now on!) I will also stop holding the nib in for long periods of time to get the ink out, and use the pumping method instead.
Oooooh hard to say. I would geuss oil but I don’t know. I’ve never tried it. You’ll have to do some experimenting to see what works. Have fun and stay inspired 🤙🏼
If you want to draw on a mirror but be able to erase I would recommend using an acrylic paint marker. You can erase really easy with a flat razor blade. The paint will come right off. No scratches to the mirror if the blade is sharp, clean and flat against the surface. Oil paint markers will be a lot harder to get off if you can get it all off at all. Good luck. Stay inspired 🤙🏼

Hi, I have a question, if I want to paint some places with scratches on aluminum, it is better to use an oil pen? I've already tried use acrylic pen, but the paint doesn't stick very well.
I am looking specifically for painting on glass. Do you have a favorite oil based brand? I would like as many colors as I can get without breaking the bank. Also, in searching, I've noticed some are neon colors..I don't think I want neon. Thx!
Hello I enjoyed your video but I need to know can I use oil based pens on resin molds before the epoxy is added & will it stain the mold or should I use an acrylic paint pen instead?
That’s going to be hard for the pen not to transfer to the resin you pour in. You’ll have better luck with an oil based pen for sure. Acrylic won’t want to stick to the mold surface. I would recommend using oil on your mold surface, let completely dry, then apply your mold release being very generous over the pen marked area. I can’t guarantee this will work but it will be less likely to fail than acrylic. Best bet is to figure out how to not to mark up your mold with anything. Good luck. Don’t be afraid to experiment a little first. Stay inspired, aloha 🤙🏼
What type of resin are you using? I don’t have a problem with poly resin over posca. I do notice sometimes a couple colors bleed but never with black. Oil pens will not work under poly so don’t try that. I’m not sure how they would work under epoxy. Hope this helps. If you have any more questions feel free to ask. Aloha 🤙🏼
I've been painting on glasses with DecoArt oil based pens. It doesn't take that long for the image to wear off. What do you suggest? Would it help to oven set?
Yes it will. I use acrylic to decorate my 3m respirator and it works fine. Oil pretty much works on everything but a little tricky to work with. Hope this helps. Stay inspired, aloha
You can but I don’t recommend it. The pen can sometimes show through on canvas prints. The pen might not show through on a thick oil painting but on a canvas print it does sometimes show when held up to the light. I recommend using a soft pencil for signing the back. If you’re talking about signing the front in oil pen over oil pen, you can do it but I don’t recommend it. Might as well do it with oil paint. It will look better and you will not run into any problems. Good luck. Stay inspired, aloha 🤙🏼
i wantet to draw something on my dualshock controllers. what do you recommend? water-based or alkohol-based markers, cause i don't want them to get rubed after a while of gaming.
Oil based pens will be best for your controllers. They will wear out but not as quick as other acrylic or alcohol based pens. Also the oil pens won’t need a clear coat. Have fun and stay inspired 🤙🏼
You will want to use oil as they will have lots of wear and tear. Acrylic will rub off way to easily on the smooth plastic surface. Sharpie makes a good oil paint pen. Good luck and stay inspired. Aloha 🤙🏼
question, im looking into this right now and have some "molotow" brand pens which advertise themselves as "high end acrylic" paint pens, and they seem to be advertised to work on most everything, molotow is a grafitti brand in any case. Im not sure exactly but i think it might have somethign to do with "enamel" or "acrylic enamel" which is a term i keep seeing pop up, but never really understood. Do you have any insights?
Do you have a recommendation for ballpoint oil paint pens? Most junkyards use a particular type that's like 100 Dollars. It's not for art really, but for utility.
So I'm relatively new into art. I have a knack for oil paints on canvas but I think some of my work could use some finer, more controlled highlights/outlines. I figured an oil pen/marker would help me achieve that. In my mind I'd let the oil paint on the canvas dry before going back over and adding a few lines with the pen or marker to touch up a few things. Sound reasonable? Thanks in advance
Hi! I was also considering using oil based markers on my oil paintings and i was wondering if you could some feedback if you tried it. I'm nervous about the paint cracking... did it come out fine?
@estelle8345 yeah it went fine. As I tried to elude to I was mostly just re enforcing some outlines, but I also waited until after my base coat dried. I don't have any tips for blending with them, but I will recommend that you draw a bit in some scratch paper ti get the paint in the tip and get used to them.
Thanks for making this informative video, i need your help with this thing that i used acrylic paint marker (Artistro) on a ceramic mug and even after baking it is getting scratched, can you please help? Which white paint pens could work best on ceramic ??

@@WelzieArt thanks for the fast response! Just curious as to why not use water based poly? I just made a set of cornhole boards for a wedding and will be used as a guest book. My customer wants me to seal the signatures afterwards, I used an oil based white paint to cover the boards, is it a bad idea to use an oil based paint marker to have the guests sign? They will have over 2 weeks time to cure so I am hoping using oil based paint markers to sign will not cause any issues.
Sorry for not responding sooner! Oil based should not come off on your controller and I recommend it over acrylic. You won’t need to do any prep with oil based. Just draw dry and play. Stay inspired!
Any suggestions on what marker to use if putting it on a Guitar body like if someone were to sign a guitar? A lot of people have been telling me I have to put a clearcoat after the signature even if it’s oil or acrylic marker but I’m afraid it’ll bleed and I heard oil markers like deco color is better because it’ll last longer and it won’t fade. What do you think I should do?
Oil should stay on the best bit you can clear coat it with an enamel. Nothing will last forever and everything fades eventually so don’t stress too much on that. If you are. Lock the guitar away in the dark and don’t touch it. But that’s no fun. Just enjoy it
very informative video. question for ya. i’m getting a Gremlins Supreme skateboard signed by an actor this weekend. it will be on the bottom side by the artwork. it has a clear finish on that side. would an oil based sharpie paint pent metallic silver work good? thanks!
Yes. That is exactly what I would recommend. Oil based sharpie. Make sure to open pen and get ink flowing before they sign it. It takes a few minutes for the pen to get started and I’m sure the actor won’t want to wait around till the ink makes it’s way to the tip.🤙🏼
If I make art with molotow and sakura pentouch acrylic inks on canvas, how long will they last with proper varnish coating? The manufacturers claims them to be of archival quality.
I don’t use those pens so I can’t really say. Generally archival ink or archival quality will last 100 years. If not placed in direct sunlight it should last long enough for a couple generations. Hope this helps. Stay inspired!! 🤙🏼
Acrylic can work on plastic but oil does work better. The downside to oil is the colors aren’t as bright but if the models don’t need bright colors oil will be fine. Acrylic will rub off easier than oil so it will need a clear coat to stay on for any length of time. Have fun and stay inspired 🤙🏼

I make rustic wooden American flags & I put a couple of coats of polycyclic on them. A customer would like some people sign it! What pen would work better?
Acrylic should work, but sometimes it doesn’t always work on poly. I don’t know why but it just doesn’t always work. Your best bet is the oil based. Works on everything.
Great video! I'd love to know what you recommend to use to seal my art project and protect it from the elements. It's a wood based project with oil paints on it, but so far I haven't found good sealants that don't also melt the paint. Debating if epoxy is the best route to go or not.

We're starting a little farm stand. We bought some nice Loddie pens and a chalkboard/ sandwich board. However we had a bit of rain and it all washed off! What pen can withstand some rain but is also erasable as our offerings change every week? 🤔 thanks so much!
I don’t think there is a pen that’s rain proof and washable

Any suggestions on whether to use oil based, water based, or acrylic based paint pens if I’m going to use them on leather and then apply leather stain over the top of the paint-drawn area? Thank you in advance.
I haven’t experimented on leather yet but I think oil based will stay the best
Can you use posca acrylic on car Tyres and it be permanent?
I would use oil based for car tires. 🤙🏼
I have a car that is vinyl wrapped and I want to do a cartoon style comic outline of the car what is your recommendation? From what I saw in the video oil based seems the way to go but would love a proper answer!
Oil based will be the way to go. Try experimenting a little on a part of the car that is hard to see. Good luck!
Question......Dose the Oil based sharpie pen in white when using it on a metal surface dry glossy?
It’s got more of a gloss than an acrylic paint pen for sure. I would call it glossy but you’ll have to see if it’s glossy enough for what you need. 🤙🏼
@@WelzieArt great.... it will work great for the white work bench from home depot that is a white powe rcoat that is glossy. I just need it for a few touch ups.

Question - what works best for EPP foam material, on RC plane/aircraft ? Can i use oil based pen ? Will in interact/dissolve the foam ? Will it stick well to foam surfaces? Many thanks
You’ll have to experiment on some scrap foam first. I think acrylic will be fine but the oil may dissolve the foam. Good luck
Hi, could you please suggest what kind of paint marker is best for detailing purpose over a diecast car without stripping the stock paint of the car.
A fine tip oil based sharpie should work great
Hi, can I use oil based marker on the body of an electric guitar? The finish on the guitar is nitro-cellulose lacquer.
Yes oil based pens will work best on lacquer
Hey, just wondering if the oil based pens will still to metal headphones (sounds like it should). On part of my headphones the black has worn off the metal (aluminium I'd say). Will this work?.... cheers.
Yes the oil based pens will park better and you won’t have to clear spray coat them. Good luck 🤙🏼

Hey brother, what do you think is the best to use over epoxy resin to sign for a autograph, very nervous about it was thinking about posca, deco color,Molowtow. But would love to hear your thoughts and could send a picture of the piece if needed.
Use an oil based pen. Should work fine
@@WelzieArt thank you so much means alot. Any brand you recommend?
@cadenwilliamss4270 in my opinion sharpie makes the best oil based pen, but it’s been a while since I’ve used molowtow
@WelzieArt hey was wondering if sharpies oil based pen had acidus ingredients that can sink into the epoxy writing over it cause have heard the regular sharpies can do such
@@cadenwilliamss4270 I think the oil based will be fine on epoxy but I always make sure you experiment first.
Good question can you use artric paint pens work on skateboard decks vs oil paint pens?
Acrylic will work on skateboards. The level of quality will be base on how well the acrylic sticks. Is the skateboard sanded? Does it have a varnish over the wood. Does it have a decal? If what your drawing on is oil based then you should use oil based marker. varnish or oil based ink on the design will not allow acrylic to adhere very well. Try out a little on a piece of the board and see if works.
Hope this helps
Hello so for autographs would you recommend the Posca marker or the sharpie oil based. Sometimes the wording on the oil based sharpies will fade a bit
It depends on what your signing. If you’re signing aluminum prints you need the oil based. If canvas or paper you can use oil or acrylic pens. I haven’t noticed the oil based sharpie fading yet. To me they seem like they last longer.
Have fun and stay inspired 🤙🏼
Same question. Which would work best for autographing 8x10 photos?@@WelzieArt
@@Lady_Strange oil based will work on glossy photos
Thank you for your quick response, and for this tutorial! I will look into buying some oil based markers for photos, instead of acrylic.

What marker/paint pen is best for writing (autograph) on a crushed velvet type fabric?
Oil based and acrylic do work. Sharpie pens work too. Even fabric pens. If I were getting something fabric autographed I would use an oil based pen.
Can you use acrylic clear coat over oil based chrome pen?
No you can’t
Hi! The oil based Can be use on mirror , but can I erase/clean my mirror drawings with alcohol or with something ?
If you want to draw on a mirror but be able to erase I would recommend using an acrylic paint marker. You can erase really easy with a flat razor blade. The paint will come right off. No scratches to the mirror if the blade is sharp, clean and flat against the surface. Oil paint markers will be a lot harder to get off if you can get it all off at all.
Good luck. Stay inspired 🤙🏼
Thank you. I’m so bummed as I really love the Posca pens colors. I think I’m going to have a hard time using them on the surfboard I just used epoxy on😞. I’m going to test it out & see if it works. I hope so

oil based paint marker suitable for tyre and how long it can hold sir ?
Not sure what a tyre but an oil based pen will last the longest compared to an acrylic pen. 🤙🏼
Will oil base work over spray paint?
So I'm here cause not very savvy with a paint brush and wanted to use a paint pen to customize a metal model car,oil based is the way to go correct?? And do I only need to go over it once
Correct. I think they have oil based paint pens specifically for model cars but I may be mistaken.
Do the acrylic pens work on felt
I haven’t tried but my guess is oil based would be better
I want to make hand coloured wooden pins and unique pieces tic tac toe boards (Burgers and Pizzas, Sushi and Fish etc...). What do you suggest I do to paint and finish the pieces for long term lasting? I have a laser engraver (Glowforge) and would just like some direction.
Oil based works the best but acrylic would be the”healthier” and “greener” option. Paint will work better for you than markers for sure. High quality house paint is super durable
Please can you recommend the best oil based pens to buy and use? And also, can varnish keep acrylic on a phone case from rubbing off?
Sharpie is my favorite for colors and quality. You can try some spray enamel for the acrylic on phone case. I have a video on clear coating
Hi, I have a question, if I want to paint some places with scratches on aluminum, it is better to use an oil pen? I've already tried use acrylic pen, but the paint doesn't stick very well.
Yes use oil
I am looking specifically for painting on glass. Do you have a favorite oil based brand? I would like as many colors as I can get without breaking the bank. Also, in searching, I've noticed some are neon colors..I don't think I want neon. Thx!
My favorite oil based pens are the sharpie paint pens. Great colors and work really well for oil based pens
Thank you so much for the quick response ☺️
Ok, so which is better for color under finishing resin? Posca black is ok but the Posca colors ran. Would the oil pens bleed colors under gloss coat?
What type of resin are you using? I don’t have a problem with poly resin over posca. I do notice sometimes a couple colors bleed but never with black.
Oil pens will not work under poly so don’t try that. I’m not sure how they would work under epoxy. Hope this helps. If you have any more questions feel free to ask.
Aloha 🤙🏼
I've been painting on glasses with DecoArt oil based pens. It doesn't take that long for the image to wear off. What do you suggest? Would it help to oven set?
You could use a spray enamel but it will wear off too. Anything high use and rubbing won’t be able last
Will oil based work on a latex mask
Yes it will. I use acrylic to decorate my 3m respirator and it works fine. Oil pretty much works on everything but a little tricky to work with. Hope this helps. Stay inspired, aloha
Can you use these pens to sign your name on an oil paint canvas for art work
You can but I don’t recommend it.
Good luck. Stay inspired, aloha 🤙🏼

question, im looking into this right now and have some "molotow" brand pens which advertise themselves as "high end acrylic" paint pens, and they seem to be advertised to work on most everything, molotow is a grafitti brand in any case. Im not sure exactly but i think it might have somethign to do with "enamel" or "acrylic enamel" which is a term i keep seeing pop up, but never really understood. Do you have any insights?
There can be acrylic enamel. Enamel is the type of finish not necessarily the chemical compound. Hope that helps
Hello, what would be best for car stitching? I was to dye my white stitching to red. Thanks

I haven’t
Do you have a recommendation for ballpoint oil paint pens? Most junkyards use a particular type that's like 100 Dollars. It's not for art really, but for utility.
I don’t, but if sharpie has one I. Et it pretty solid
Very reasonable! Oil based pens and pencils will be a great addition to your oil paintings. Have fun and stay inspired 🤙🏼🤙🏼
Okay thank you very much!

Hello, and thanks for this great informative video.
I am working on a painting now using Gamblin oil paints on a large canvas.
Can I do my outlines using Oil Pen Markers?
I haven’t tried oil pens over traditional oil paint. You might find the oil pen markers crack a little bit. In theory it should work but 🤷🏻♂️ experiment first. Have fun and stay inspired, aloha 🤙🏼
Use an alkyd medium with the Gamblin (Liquin, etc) and paint in thin layers. It’ll cure faster and allow the oil pen addition to not crack.

Are using poly with MEK catalyst or Uv cure on Posca color?
I use poly with MEK. But I have used UV cure on posca. I haven’t had many problems with both.
Question: with oil based pens, what’s the best way to seal them? Water based poly?
You don’t really need to but you can use a spray enamel. Do not use water based poly

@bigdsfishingandoutdoors like the video says. Oil over oil or acrylic is ok but don’t do acrylic over oil
Also does oil bassed come of I I touch it alot cause I'm using it on my controller

What would be better for painting plastic model kits, Acrylic or Oil based pens?
Acrylic can work on plastic but oil does work better. The downside to oil is the colors aren’t as bright but if the models don’t need bright colors oil will be fine.
Acrylic will rub off easier than oil so it will need a clear coat to stay on for any length of time.
