    This is the movie that my wife and our neighbor became obsessed with this summer. They each saw it with their spouse as soon as possible and then they keep schedule girl nights to go see it together. Now they're scheduling a date to take our girls to go see it in 4DX. And the 4DX showings are sold out weeks in advance.
    It really is a movie tapping into something interesting.

      Yeah a bunch of our friends are coming panning to go to the 4DX re release as well! It's just good fun. I hope other films like this keep coming out and keep adding to the 4DX experience. For the average viewer, especially, this felt like the movie of the summer.

    I had so much fun with this movie! I was in love with the original movie back in the 90's as a kid and I felt Twisters had that same spirit without bombarding the audience with nostalgia like most reboots/revivals do these days. It was able to stand on its own without bringing back old cast members or making obnoxious callbacks - they kept it subtle. The movie was sincere and not cynical, which most movies are lacking these days. Sometimes it just nice to have a flick like this that just feels like a fun thrill ride.
    Honorable mention for the climax scene when screen gets ripped out of a movie theater revealing the tornado in the distance. Really nice touch!

    • @FilmSpeak

      haha yeah I did love that too. Yeah, it wasn't super egregious with its callbacks. I mean it truthfully could've just been its own film since it was for the most part. My favorite part about it.

    I actually quite liked that they didn't kiss at the end. I don't think it was needed. You could tell they were romantically interested in each other anyway so why have the kiss? It would just be there "because". So I'm happy they didn't do it. Excellent movie though!

    • @Vahlee-A
      @Vahlee-A 3 месяца назад +7

      Me too. They're both beautiful but we don't always need the characters to kiss. It opens future installments up for the potential for either character to either pursue a relationship later with each other or with somebody else. We need more male-female platonic friendships.

    • @jackmanly109
      @jackmanly109 3 месяца назад +5

      This was my exact thought coming out of both screening I've seen. The "happily ever after" ending kiss is, in my opinion, a ridiculously overused cliché that doesn't need to happen most of the time. This is one of those times when you don't need it - the movie works just as well (if not better) without it. This is a classic "show not tell" moment. You're showing the audience that the two characters have a romantic interest in each other without explicitly telling them to their faces. Audiences don't need to be handheld through everything and have everything pointed out to them, they're capable of picking up on the (very obvious) context clues that the writers laid out.

    The moment my partner & I got home, we ordered "Not My First Tornado" shirts.
    Tbh I enjoyed more than the first (which I saw just 2 weeks before Twisters--yet have rode The Experience at Universal); while the first was non-stop excitement & the scrappy team was more enjoyable (PSH always there for it), this felt more character-driven yet exciting still. The character arc for both characters was endearing & the whole thing felt like it justified existing as a film. It was the definition of "Summer Fun With Heart".

    • @paolothorpe1461
      @paolothorpe1461 3 месяца назад

      Haha yeah man I got myself a ‘Not My First Tornadeo’ Shirt as well🤣Both films are really good and I would’ve loved to have ridden The Twister Experience Ride at Universal! PSH was really great in Twister, you can really get excited and surprised at just how good and talented and funny he was and how he really is in a few movies, from that time specifically! Twister, Boogie Nights, Punch Drunk Love where he holds his own against The Great Adam Sandler! And this movie did have some great action and tense stakes but what I love most, like you said, were the characters and the stories told through them and of and between them! You can really feel them grow and change into better people and can understand their hangups due to trauma and they do a good job either showing or making you FEEL their pain/trauma! And along with characters, this film truly has a lot of HEART and like you said this was a Summer Movie With Heart-Deadpool And The Wolverine, same damn thing!!! We’ve gotten a lot of those recently this Summer, Alien looks like a good callback to the original Horror/Sci-Fi of Alien/Aliens and Josh Hartnett having a bit of a renaissance with Shyamalan looks great, and Long Legs which was a smaller film, had great marketing and Nic Cage is always great! Smile 2 looks great as well with its marketing!

    Twisters had the same feel as a disaster film, but it went its own direction. I enjoyed it both times from being in a theater at an early screening to a drive-in theater, which made the experience a whole lot better, in my opinion. The tornadoes went into a territory where it was higher stakes and the nods/references from the original felt nostalgic when growing up with the 1996 original. It was a fun blockbuster this year. If you feel it, chase it! 🌪🐄

    I thought this movie was just going to be another lazy reboot, but I ended up thinking it was surprisingly good. Even if it did draw heavily from the original it was well done.
    I was glad that they didn't have a cheesy kiss at the end, but "romance ever after" type endings have always seemed a bit off-putting and forced to me, so it's probably just a case of 'your mileage may vary'🤷‍♀

    I appreciate that the director said he didn't want the film to be anything political at all, but the thing is, in the 2020s, just making a film _celebrating Americana_ IS a political statement of a sort. Just making a film about a _normal heterosexual relationship_ where s3x isn't shown on screen IS a political move, sadly. *Just* making a film featuring a straight white male character who is *_unapologetically masculine and assertive_* is a political statement. THAT'S why I loved it -- even more than the riveting tension. _Just_ like TG Maverick, it _celebrates_ the strong masculine hero archetype, instead of doing what's "in vogue" right now and sh!tting on it.
    As a 24-year-old woman, I *_freaking miss_* films where the male main character isn't shat on the whole time, made to look weak, or subjected to a beat-down from a Mary Sue Not-Like-Other-Girls Feminist GirlBoss™! And furthermore, I *_freaking miss_* films with female characters who are smart and capable _without being "underdog" Mary Sue feminists!_
    The CHEMISTRY in this movie was delicious, and it was almost solely because it showcased wholesome, natural, _flirty_ banter between a masculine man and a smart but feminine woman who wasn't insufferable. No disgust from the woman at the man's _aUDAcitY_ to flirt with her, no speech from her about how men ruin everything or treat women like objects. In fact, she _literally tells him to chase her at the end!_ I was *SQUEALING* it was so wholesome and cute!
    I just could not get over how much I missed that flirty dynamic between a normal straight man and a normal straight woman, that WASN'T about the man cow-towing to the woman's feminist awesomeness, but instead holding his own and _being a man,_ and even *protecting her* (the rodeo scene)!! I ATE IT UP. I typically only find that kind of tension-filled, flirtatious dynamic in movies from the 20th century.

      Ehhhhhhhhh I can’t take that leap. It’s so much closer to being as good as Twister than I wanted to believe at first, but better? Nah.
      The first Twister had a few things going for it that Twisters doesn’t manage to recapture:
      1. The cast. T2’s cast is good, but Glenn Powell absolutely steals the show. Twister was chock full of scene stealing characters that came by it naturally, whereas the scene-stealing side character moments in T2 feel pretty forced. Twister’s cast had a chance to bond and become genuine friends, because they all stayed in a motel during the filming and hung out around a bonfire at night playing games and having fun. T2 doesn’t have that same chemistry between its characters.
      2. The cinematography. Twister’s cinematography is kinetic and exciting. That’s not to say there’s anything wrong with T2’s, it is a beautifully shot film indeed, but it is shot much differently than Twister and loses a TON of the blood pumping excitement. Take the yellow Jeep racing through the ditch as the tornado wipes out a barn in the background and compare it to any scene in Twisters - it’s not that T2 doesn’t have intense moments, but the shot composition is so much more interesting in Twister. The cameras mounted to the vehicles also capture a ton of really exciting vehicle action shots, while most vehicle shots in T2 are drones and green screen. That said, I LOVED the shot at the end of T2 where the camera was mounted to the trailer being pulled behind the truck. That’s good stuff.
      3. The score. Twister’s original score amplifies the action on the screen immensely. The musical stings whenever a tornado is looming, the wise choice to cut the music and let the winds and destruction take focus, and of course the mashup of licensed tracks with the score that occur more than once… so, so good. I was 11 when Twister came out and made my dad take me to buy a CD of both the original score and the licensed soundtrack for my birthday because the music stayed in my head for days after seeing it for the first time. I legit can’t remember what T2’s original score even sounds like. Honestly, I could barely hear it during the movie in the first place.
      All of this being said, T2 also has a few one-ups on Twister.
      1. The science is more accurate. They worked with professional meteorologists and storm chasers to ensure they were getting things right. A few missteps still, but overall the movie gets a passing grade from most storm chasers.
      2. Visuals, but that’s unfair. Even so, that scene where Javi’s truck is reversing away as the tornado wipes out a barn… I’m not sure that wasn’t a real tornado. That looked INCREDIBLE.
      3. The rivalry is better conceived, and not as contrived as in Twister (Jonas’ existence serves only to motivate Bill to stick around and ensure Dorothy flies. He has no other effect on the story whatsoever).
      I know nostalgia is a factor, but I still genuinely believe that Twister is a more fun and engaging movie overall. Twisters gets bogged down a little here and there and DESPERATELY needs a more blood pumping soundtrack, but it turned out to be an excellent sequel.
      Twisters is the Tremors 2 to Twister’s Tremors… if that makes sense. A totally worthy follow up that repeats the fun of the original, but also changes the formula enough to make it feel like it’s own thing.

    You have never been in or around a tornado, or faced a natural disaster. The only way to prevent Tornados destruction is to disrupt air currents over the Midwest.
    As for the government. Here is a story.
    In 2019 record rainfall fell on Oklahoma. For three weeks the Army core of engineers did not reduce water in there dams safely, which forced them to do an emergency dump of the water. (this is not climate change this is a storm set that comes every ten years or so) The water then flooded everything from Fort Gibson to Tulsa. As far as I know no one died. but damage was huge.
    The government gave everyone 20k for there mistake and many had to sell there homes (at discounted prices) though they still got more than the government would give. There is currently a lawsuit.
    So tell me again how the government is going to help people, because at least a corporation goes belly up when it makes mistakes like that.

    I disagree that this movie portrays capitalism as bad. This movie shows why capitalism is the greatest economic system in all the world. Allow me to explain. The greasy, mustache twirling, "Mr Potter" of this movie only does research for his own selfish reasons. Yet even in spinning his evil plan, capitalism forces him to finance a useful piece of scientific equipment that will benefit mankind. He cant just keep it locked up. He is a capitalist he has to make money from it. He can only monetize it if he makes it available to the public. You see through his desire to make money he is forced into doing the right thing. Many great inventions only exist because people wanted to make money. When not overly unencumbered by the government greedy capitalists invented railroads, electricity, the automobile, medicines, airplanes, the internet, microwave ovens, and countless other things that you enjoy today. Don't be so hard on the slimy venture capitalist he is the lubricant in the economic machine.

      It’s a sad fact, but without immoral white men exploiting people, we wouldn’t have much.
      I respect Javi’s choice because you need money for science. He’s infiltrating from the inside. I think this is how progress is really made. Greed has always funded the science.
      But it doesn’t mean we shouldn’t call out and openly mock the greed. We can’t just be complacent to what it is without striving for better. Accepting capitalist greed ties all of us to a life of slavery with more steps. You can’t fault a person for wanting everyone to know.
      I don’t agree that greed motivates people. Passion and excitement do. But who has time for passion after giving 1/3 of your life away so you can live in a safe home?

    The movie was fun, but let me tell you something really important. Do you want to know why your government spends a countless dollars, devotes numerous resources to defense and military, when it could be allocating some of that to environmental protection? Because no matter how dire climate change and natural disasters are, most of them you can still hide or run away from. And you know what you definitely won't hide and run away from? From a bullet, drone or missile fired in your direction! You'd better never know the sound of a machine gun shooting down a combat drone right above your house! Or as an anti-aircraft defense, trying to shoot down aeroballistic missiles, which eventually hit a house a hundred meters away from you, completely destroying it and killing dozens of people! These millions of dollars that your government spends abroad on war, not on conflict, but on war, save millions of lives here in Ukraine! And this is not some "unimportant political thing", it is literally a matter of life and death!

    • @Waywardwindfall
      @Waywardwindfall 3 месяца назад

      I’m so sorry you are experiencing those horrors. And I’m glad American funds are providing you enough safety that you can be using RUclips.
      But I’d like to share why we Americans hate defense spending. I suggest you google Ferguson Missouri to understand my point.
      Military defense replaces perfectly functioning tanks, guns, other shit we don’t understand. They spend money on things we don’t need. And then hand it over to that idiot that sat next to you in math that kept trying to copy your answers. Racist cops have uncontrolled access to WAR grade weapons. And they use them on some kids asking other people to stop killing them.
      We love how safe we are. We don’t love most of our money going to defense, when 6% of our nation lives in 3rd world conditions. Whole cities don’t have access to clean drinking water. If the money were just keeping us safe, we wouldn’t care as much. But with each new tank they get, we became more endangered.
      Someone tonight, in my city, will go to sleep hearing gunshots. Hearing the cries of people who don’t have enough and are losing loved ones to a different kind of war. Those conditions you are experiencing exist here too. Your country has it worse, I don’t doubt. But your fear doesn’t negate the fear of the family in the projects or trailer park who had Raman noodles for dinner and can’t afford new shoes for their kids.
      We are safe from war, maybe. But our government doesn’t keep us safe in daily life.
      I hope you stay safe. I wish you and your loved ones nothing but peace and healing.

      I have to say i disagree completely. I thought they would be annoying from the trailer with the guy screaming "we got TWINSS, TWINSS!"
      But i think the movie does well in fleshing out humanity in all the main cast

    This movie was ok. It was exactly like the original and to me that didn't help it

    I didn't expect it to be better than the original, but at least I expected it to be bigger. It isn't. No wonder it has been a failure outside the United States.
