This really hits close to home. I shaved my hair about a year ago now. I loved the short hair look. However, around my co-worker I was so insecure. I always put my hair in cornrows and I feel pretty that way. My hair was thriving and growing. Than I started to straighten it again which caused my ends to be damaged. At that point I was feeling at my lowest. I saw on tiktok this girl talk about how texturing helped her maintain hair better. Without doing any research I decided to do it because I wanted a slick bun. My hair was almost died straight, dried up, and thin. I thought I would never recover. I don’t regret chopping my hair, but I wished I was more educated about taking care of short hair. Personally, it took more effort for me as well. I had to do so much trims because I was manipulating my hair so much. Now, I’m doing so much better. Thank you for sharing your experience, It truly refreshing hearing a different perspective on big chops.
I was natural for 11 years. I did 3-4 big chops in that time. MY hair NEVER grew past my jawline. I was minimalistic, used decent products, natural mostly. I spent a fortune over the years to always suffer stunted growth and breakage. Last week I cut it into a pixie and relaxed it. I'm soo over hair. It made me soo self conscious and self obsessed with my appearance. Not everyone's hair journey is a beautiful one.
@@shantelrscott To be honest ukhti, no. I regret relaxing it because it feels lifeless as if all the volume and body has gone. Thinking if just starting again when new growth is substantial inshaAllah.
Sorry to hear your hair journey hasn’t been what you’d hoped! Have you looked into it from a health standpoint? I know sometimes, as with myself, the hair may not be growing due to a deficiency of sorts within the body. But once I figured that out my hair grew faster and healthier.
The big chop that I did with my hair is going to be the last big chop that I will ever do What I wish that I knew about the big chop is that you have to be STRICT on yourself and your lifestyle if you want to grow your hair. You don't only need hair products, you need to exercise, you need to eat less to zero sugar, and less to zero salt, you need to do the inversion method, you got to get this right at least most of the time or you will lose ALL the hair that you've worked hard for and it will take you LONGER for you to grow your hair. This is why fellow black girls went from the big chop to an afro in 5 months and there has been no change in my hair even after 5 months I still have the big chop hair style and I'm still trying to grow my hair down to my ankles I need to get my lifestyle right or all the stuff that I use for my hair is going to be useless
It’s so crazy, when I big chopped I felt OPPOSITE of everything that you said BUT I feel the EXACT same way you explain now with my locs. I think I feel my best with no hair. It’s like a blank canvas. You look beautiful nevertheless! Great video
I love this .. I had a mental breakdown back in March and shaved my head completely bald. My hair is VERY slowly growing back.. You definitely hit everything spot on. New subbbie❤❤❤❤
When you said I didn’t like the fact that I liked it relax I can relate to you a thousand percent on that I’ve been feeling guilty that maybe Big chopping isn’t what I want but I hate my unhealthy part. I feel stuck still thinking about Big chopping though and just committing this time thank you for being honest and posting this!❤
You look absolutely gorgeous with the short hair. The afro is gorgeous on you. The pixie was gorgeous on you. The long hair was gorgeous on you. You are a gorgeous girl so anything you do is going to be gorgeous. I just recently did my big chop for the 2nd time. I’m going to be brutally honest right now…this doesn’t really sound like the cons of a big chop it sounds more like your insecurities your letting shine through. It is just hair and it will grow back. Coco Chanel said a girl who cuts her hair is about to change her life. No matter what you do, your beauty will radiate. I hope you can find some comfort and confidence again with a hairstyle you love!!!
Thank you. like I said in the video it was just my experience and it doesn't mean it's going to be yours or anybody else. I get the empowerment but I think the reality is more challenging than that and people do deserve to know about it before making there on decision 💕
I have been through this many times Chop it and grow it out! I also feel masculine but who cares it’s only hair baby! I learned that hair doesn’t define me as a woman and my beauty! I rather cut off all my damaged hair and start anew rather then continue struggling trying to cover up the mess Up! But I’m in the growing out the hair straight process and then back to the growth 😂
I’m the complete opposite. I’ve been wanting to have a pixie cut since I was 11 years old but my family always discouraged me. I feel much happier now that I have finally decided to have short hair. It’s definitely tricky to find ways to bring out your femininity when your hair is short but hey the 90’s were full of men rocking ponytails and longer hairstyles and that didn’t make them less of a men, Johnny Depp looked sexy and dangerous with longer hair 😂 Short hair can be high maintenance but I prefer it over long hair, the shorter it is the better for me. The men commenting on your hair is SO annoying! That happened to me as well, all guy classmates that would pester me about my hair got the answer they deserve. Ugh the audacity.
am glad you did what you always wanted to do and feel good about it. I envy that. pixie cut is such a badass sexy look for badass sexy women I guess some men have basic taste and that's fine we are not for everybody, we are for ourselves and should do what makes us feel good at the end. super happy for you :D
I've always wanted a pixie too! I finally took the plunge not too long ago & I adore it. The funny part is that my boyfriend who has shoulder length hair is now the one with the longer hair in our relationship. We definitely get stares 😂
Hey girl. As yu said when you wake up the hair is flat, I hate flat hair . I ve been rocking a TWA since 2017 bleached . April 2024 I decided no more bleach . Chopped again. Now most the hair is grey some black. But I hate to go in bed for a rest and get that flat hair. HATE IT . HEAR WITH YOU FOR THE JOURNEY
You basically touched upon all my struggles! and we have a very similar hair journey , growing my hair out at the moment as well naturally , al the best and keep us updated ! :)
I really appreciate you talking about this from both a practical and emotional perspective. Our hair impacts so much; we really shouldn't dismiss it as "just hair." Your comment about men thinking we owe it to them to be pretty...I'm gonna use that. Lately, I've been thinking about how we as women have to be pretty above all else. Ultimately I'm glad that you do not regret your decision and that you are working through the challenges as they come. Definitely don't let it defeat you. I'm saying this to you while needing to hear it myself.
Thanks for sharing your experience with us! This is so raw and helpful for us looking to do this but are really scared. also for here 4:46 it's T.W.A. not Twa-awh lol. Not sure if you're calling it that intentionally? T.W.A. stands for Teenie Weenie Afro.

Hair especially black hair is complex but that’s the beauty of it. Do what makes you feel beautiful and feels right to you.
