By any chance, could you make a video about parents not accepting their child’s curly hair? My mom makes me feel really bad about my 3c curls. She tells me I look too ethnic and I will never get a job with my natural hair out. I love my curls but I often feel so insecure about them when I’m around her. She even threatened to not associate herself with me in public because of my natural hair. I’m currently saving to get my own place so I could walk around my own home without her telling me how terrible my curls look.
Would love a video or a response to this. Xoxo 💕

I did the big chop in October, my hair was basically murdered by bleaching and coloring, barely had a wave in it left. So, I had it completely shaved off, I was nearly bald! But I'm so glad I did, it was a fresh start to getting my hair back to full health. Since then it's been growing like crazy thanks to liquid biotin and deep conditioning. Just yesterday it finally starting curling again, more than it ever did in the past, and that was a super exciting day! I highly recommend it to anyone who's hair needs a restart!

I transitioned for about 7 months in 2009. Too expensive and too worrisome! I was a ball of nerves because my long, straight hair was my security blanket. In 2009, teeny weeny fros were not trendy. Natural hair was not quite trendy yet. But it was the best decision I've ever made for my hair, and I have never regretted it! In fact, I have big chopped again (and little chopped) since then! Thanks for posting! I love that you're invested in all the Curlfriends living our best curly lives!

I just did a big chop about 4 days ago and i couldnt be happier. I had bad feedback and great feedback. I bleached my hair , straightened it and i was losing hair so bad. I had Beautiful hair everywhere i went i would get compliments but over the time i was realized i wasn’t getting compliments no more cause the damage to my hair was becoming noticeable. And i was tired of the same routine every morning yall no products was working 🥺 i had the same color and look for years it was time to let it go. It took a lot of bravery cause alot of my family was saying i would look ugly and all those years i realized i only kelt that dead hair on my head out of fear of what people would say..but one day i got the courage and i did it. And now i feel beautiful my hair does not define me but cutting it all off gave me this power i didnt know i had❤️

I can definitely attest to starting the transition and then finally getting fed up after a while! My hair was always straight and long, so the thought of going from that to super short was terrifying. But when I started to see my natural curl pattern compared to my damaged, relaxed ends, I decided it would be worth the plunge. Once I cut the ends, the results were phenomenal and so much better than I expected. This is definitely a challenge that will be worthwhile. Go for it!

  • @מאיהלוי-ז3ר

Yes! This is exactly what happened to me. I tried transitioning for 5 months but I felt like I was wasting my time and wasting expensive products on dead hair. No matter what I did, my hair always looked bad and frizzy that I literally had to style it 2+ times a day. It was mid back length yet I chopped it all off last June and I have never felt better! Now, when stretched it almost goes down to my bra. It’s not easy but it’s so so worth it!

running this back to what ur curlfriend shayla said in the big chop episode, its honestly just coming from a culture in which long hair is considered more beautiful than short hair, even if having long means holding onto damage. i think that this is especially true with the curly hair community, considering that some (not all) of the biggest curly hair youtubers have super long hair. even i (yes me, i have to call myself out too) find myself watching videos titled, “how i achieved waist length,” vs a video of keeping my hair healthy in general. AND DONT GET ME STARTED IF YOU HAVE CRAZY LEVELS OF SHRINKAGE which will always make your hair seem soooo much shorter than it already is.
but i feel like at the end of the day its called a *hair journey* for a reason. it’s not a race and there’s no universal length goal for everyone to strive for. and i’m *so* glad that we have youtubers like bianca who are constantly enforcing these messages of just *embracing* natural hair on their channels.
tl:dr - your short, curly hair is still beautiful. oh and also deep condition 💖

I’m currently transitioning but I’ve done 2 big chops before. I’m definitely enjoying this time around MUCH more. To each their own. My fave style is a bun and I love that my hair is still long enough to just throw it in a bun (I can also use a curly ponytail to cover the bun). I do cut off about 2 inches every 3 months though so my hair is getting “shorter” (even though my actual new growth is still coming in really healthy).
If you’re not ready to chop it all off, definitely do not feel pressured to.

  • @celestialmorpho

I’ve relaxed my hair since i was a very young child. I never honestly knew my hair can get curly. My family generally has good genetics my mom and her mom had ridiculously thick long hair. My mother relaxed my hair because she didn’t want me to experience what she did in a time where they didn’t have the right products for her already hard to manage hair. My younger sister never relaxed her hair because her hair is so much softer then mine. But anyway because of genetics despite the relaxers my hair was always long thick and “healthy looking”. Im 18 now and the past 3 years I’ve been wanting to go natural. This year I’m not at all obsessed with length and i want to cut it all off. I’ve already been transitioning for 3 1/2 months and have 3in of new growth. I don’t care anymore about length and my relaxed pieces are so high Porosity and tangle so easily. I cant believe I finally got to the point in life where I can cut off all of my hair and like not feel like I’ll be ugly. Im kind of proud of myself !!!

    • @celestialmorpho
      @celestialmorpho 5 лет назад +2

My mom kind of didn’t understand why I wanted to cut all my hair of she thinks im wasting good hair but i think she’s like scared of me not having long hair considering I’ve loved long hair since i was a child but i keep telling i want health not length I’ll be chopping of damaged pieces of hair anyway 😂

I big chopped back in November and I didn’t want to at because everyone was telling me no omg it’s going to be super short, but the heat damage had to go. And honestly it’s been the most freeing thing I could’ve ever done. I was so attached to my hair. And now it’s growing and flourishing like crazy. Seriously the best the I could’ve ever done. Now that it’s grown out a bit I want to go even shorter 😂 It takes time to get used to it, I usually just leave it in twist or braids but man I wish I would’ve done it sooner

I transitioned for a year in 2013-2014 and couldn’t do it anymore 😂 My hair was way too long already and I wasn’t gonna keep wasting my time just like you said! As women, we have to learn how to value ourselves and not our hair length. We have to get out of our comfort zone every so often and challenge ourselves.

When I started my curly hair journey almost 2 years ago I could not get rid of my length. I did little trims at a time. Looking back, I soooo wish I would have done the big chop. My hair would be so long now. I am still dealing with breakage. I can't do a chop now though because my wedding is this fall. So ladies... do yourself a favor and do the big chop!

I transitioned slowly. I first stopped getting relaxer and just flat ironed my hair until I had 8 months of natural hair. From there i started twist outs. That worked for me and my sanity. I couldn’t big chop psychology. But my hair is thriving and healthy. I don’t regret not big chopping but it worked best for me.

I've been going back and forth with this lately. Recently I decided I want to do a big chop, maybe a tapered cut. I've been asking my husband about some of the pics I found of styles I like. I've had long hair all my life, but now I have heat damage. I feel like now is a great time to do a big chop during this quarantine, but also we're going into summer. My issue is like you mentioned I can't put my hair in a ponytail. Which shouldn't be an issue for the average person, but I'm in the military so whatever I do has to co-inside with that at least 1 weekend a month, and 2 weeks a year. So my dilemma is finding a hairstyle that won't look crazy in my uniform.

I transitioned back when I had no idea what transitioning was because I moved to Vegas and it was too hot in Nevada to straighten.
I found comfort knowing I had my length. Because again before the curly hair movement started, we’ve all been raised to think ill of our texture and have fought our natural curls. I think of transitioning as a therapeutic way to embrace natural texture. When you see enough of the damage against the new growth, hopefully it moves you to chop it all off. For some people it happens sooner than other.

In a way, starting off the journey with a good layered haircut made quite a difference for me as my curls began to form on the bottom a lot quicker than ever. I guess its a transition in a sense, but deep conditioning weekly is doing wonders for my hair. And its ONLY 20 minutes a WEEK! It's a steal

I transitioned a year ago almost and for the first month my hair would barely curl but it wasn't in need of a big chop. After that first month and doing deep conditioning and buying better products my hair curled right back and had been fine ever since. I did get a trim though after about 3 months to get rid of split ends. All thanks to your channel!!

I think big chop became a wave bc a lot of celebrities were doing it honestly, buuut i am starting the deep conditioning challenge and i can’t wait till the end of the year! I got all of my dyed stringy split hairs cut at the end of July which was only like 3 inches but it made a bigggg difference in my hair. It’ looks more moisturized and it stays curly for waaay longer. It’s crazy i am 20 years old and just now learning how to fr fr take care of my hair!

I buzzed all of my hair off. Decided I wanted to start fresh and new with my curls. No more straightening it or coloring it. Love being natural. Did the big chop in Feb 2018 and now my curls are shoulder length. Proud of my curls.

I got my relaxed hair chopped in September 2013 by a friend whi was studying cosmetology, stopped flat ironing it as well as I started deep conditioning weekly in February '14. I dedided to grow my hair out from November '14 and in March 2016 it was all virgin hair, last March I got back to black hair dye but as I discovered the CGM a couple of months ago and I started it on New Year's I am going to switch to semi permanent! ❤ I have waist length hair with little to no damage now thanks to giving up the creamy crack and the regular trims :)

I’m getting my mom to join me on the natural train that I’ve officially been in for over a year (thanks to your videos), and she was thinking about doing a Keratin treatment to ease her curls, not knowing what it really was. I had to tell her that it’s not a good idea to do that and she has followed my advice as far as not going through with the Keratin treatment. So score for the Naturals! 😁

I’m late with this video but I did the big chop which is something I never thought I’d do.. I’ve been growing my hair out 30+ inches for a long time and got 7 inches cut off. It’s still not short and I absolutely love my hair. It’s so much healthier, and soon after I cut it I found the cg method.

all of bianca's videos have helped me so much. I used heat for about 3 years and last March I started the curly girl routine and it put my on the fast track on getting my curls back! I did a halfway chop, my hair was just about at my chest and I chopped about half my length off! since then ive trimmed my hair every month to maintain my hair!

i enjoy your videos. I've learned a lot through your videos. I've straightened my hair since junior high(I'm 32 now), and i'm just over it. So i just started the transition process to CG method, i still have some non-CG method products that i'm using up. I think my hair just needs no heat and deep conditioning each week. My hair still waves nicely, but has lots of frizz. So those are the challenges i'm going to do this year. But congrats to those who are brave enough for the big chop!

i've gotten relaxers since the 6th grade because my mother couldn't manage my natural hair growing up. I am now 33. I stopped getting them in April 2018 and was just flat ironing it. I didn't take care of my hair because it was so much maintenance. I did the chop in August of 2019 because i had hair break off that made the back of hair look like a broom. Now I couldn't be happier even though its maintenance.

I was born with naturally curly hair, I was obsessed with straightening my hair luckily I didn’t have heat damage or straight curls, about a year I ago I heard of this “safe way” to color my hair with peroxide and baking soda, and I’ve always wanted lightened tips, so I did just that but I lightened it up to my shoulders. Throughout the new year with my ombré hair I realized how curly the top was but how dry and damaged the bottom was, it felt as if it was horse hair. I tried treatments and all of that but all that did was benefit the top of my hair and make the bottom even more dry. Just a couple of days ago I invested in a Deva cut and cut off all the damaged hair, so my hair went from my waist to my shoulders. Now my hair is in much better condition and I now have the defined curls I never knew I had and I LOVE IT! Another accomplishment I made was I went a whole year without straightening my hair! #Curlygirl 💖👩🏽‍🦱🤩

I love you Bianca. You seriously changed my life!
I committed to your #noheatchallenge in the summer of 2017, which is when I found your channel. My straightner went in the TRASH! You stressed the importance of deep conditioning before you even released the #deepconditioningchallenge, so I committed to that one from the beginning of my journey, too!
I started chopping damage off bit by bit, then got a devacut, and then another. I now have virgin hair and my curls and waves are thriving.
I literally thought I had 2b hair in the beginning. It's now mostly 3a.. and I owe it all to you!

I'm glad I saw this lol. I kept feeling like I needed to cut my hair but I love my long hair. I've always been natural it just got damaged from chlorine a bit...it's getting better. I'm in the dry and frizzy thing but my curls have not left whatsoever. I quit my swim job a year ago so that's helping!! I just want them to be moisturized. I definitely don't need a big chop!

I did a mix of both! I transitioned for a while until my top layer was good enough to see the clear transition between curls that wouldn’t naturally curls and curls that were struggling to curl but were still curling. But like you said, I got tired of it and randomly did a mini chop without realIzing it because I was so tired of the top layer being so uncooperative

On 2016 I started to transition since I straightened my hair basically since middle school. I had no idea what my curls looked like since I never wore them down and during 18 months I had my hair up all the time because I was living in a place with really hot weather, so I showered let my hair dry noticing it was more frizzy and then put it up all the time. I did use hair masks, but since I had no internet I missed your deep conditioning challenge but I did start my own transition. Now after 2 years my curls are around 20 cm down my shoulders, looking big and defined thanks to you and your advices and I’ve trying to get my family members like my sister and my niece with curly hair to embrace their curls and wore them as they should. You are such a big example for me. I’m still learning, I’m still dreaming about getting a curly hair experience at Deva Curl but my “curly hair life time” has just begun. 🙆🏻‍♀️💕

This video is a good follow up to the last one. I like these challenges. The no heat challenge was so easy for me because I have never used heat and still don’t. The deep conditioning challenge really helped. I had never deep conditioned because my hair isn’t dry and perfectly healthy so I didn’t think I needed it. My hair is much curlier now. I had short hair at the beginning of 2018 and now it is shoulder length. I won’t be doing this challenge but am looking forward to next year’s challenge.💕
