    It’s been a little over a month since I’ve Big chopped my hair and I can honestly say it’s the best decision I’ve ever made. My was hair was damaged and I’m happy that I’ve done this. @@Joy35 You will still be pretty with short hair especially because you will still be you!!! If you’re still nervous when the time comes for your appointment, you can also do a medium length haircut so that it’s not so drastic and if you like that then you can go shorter. Whatever look you choose, if you’re ready and open to embrace your new look and you’ll be fine.

    I had never thought about how much easier it would be to go swimming with shorter hair but that makes so much sense! When I was little my mom would always braid my hair every time before I went swimming so it would be less painful to deal with afterwards. As I got older I would just stop putting my head under water when I did swim so I wouldn't have to take the time to braid it first!

    • @LoriLoveTV
      @LoriLoveTV  3 года назад +2

      I used to completely avoid water because any version of moisture would cause my hair to get frizzy and revert back to it’s natural curl pattern. Braids are always the absolute best solution and of course wearing hair in its natural state when swimming is the ultimate freedom 🙌🏾💕😊

    I’m considering a big chop right now vs transition to natural hair. I have been hesitant because I’ve never been good at doing my own hair. I’ve had relaxers pretty much my entire life. The low maintenance of the big chop is very appealing-being able to swim often with no fuss. I think my hair is 4d so I do worry that even doing a style with poppin curls is going to take a lot of work. I get tired just curling my hair in the back! I can’t imagine doing tiny twists all around! Your color compliments your skin beautifully! Thank you for sharing your journey!

    • @LoriLoveTV
      @LoriLoveTV  4 года назад +5

      Thank you so much for the compliments. It is a pleasure to share my journey especially if it’s helping others. So far I have experienced 2 healthy hair journeys-the transition and the big chop.My first journey was over 10 years ago when I decided to transition from relaxed to natural. Just like you I had relaxers almost my entire life so when I decided to go natural I didn’t even know what my natural hair looked like and I certainly didn’t know how to manage it because I was completely dependent upon my stylist. I decided to transition from relaxed to natural so that in case I changed my mind I would’ve at least had kept my length at the time. That was THE most difficult transition ever. Managing both textures required 2 different techniques. My relaxed ends were extremely tangled when my hair was wet but my natural roots detangled best when wet. It would take me HOURS to detangle my hair. I would have to set a day aside just for Wash days. After a year, I cut off the relaxed ends because I couldn’t take the maintenance anymore. To this day when I think back I totally regret transitioning that entire year because I wasted so much of my life styling my hair. I have a video explaining my hair story on my channel which is specifically helpful when it comes to detangling your hair properly so that you can maintain your length. That technique allowed me to maintain my length especially as I transitioned to natural hair. Check that out if you decide to transition ( ruclips.net/video/nAqtc2-n-5E/видео.html ). Also, if you follow people on RUclips for inspo during your transition, make sure you follow someone with hair closest to your hair type. For me the most helpful person closest to my hair type that I found later in my journey was Naptural85. I wish I had known about her earlier in my journey; it would’ve helped prevent a lot of trial and error. So definitely follow her if you decide to transition. This is my fav video of Whitney’s ( ruclips.net/video/g6ntmGdXXUw/видео.html ) because all of my twist outs were a big frizzy mess until I found this technique. Now the big chop has proved to be the best decision for me and my lifestyle. I had heat damage and I immediately got rid of it with the big chop. Plus, all I had to do was get up and go in the morning and shampoo once a week, you can’t beat that!! It has started to get harder to just get up and go now that my hair has grown in the past four months that I have not been to the salon during the quarantine. I’ve entered that awkward phase where I don’t know what to do with my hair seeing that I don’t wanna spend the time to work to define my coils. If my hair was long I’d just keep it in a bun and be good but I can’t do that now. It doesn’t bother me because if my hair was longer during this quarantine I’d be stuck spending hours upon hours detangling my hair again, so I am super grateful for the big chop. If I find that I miss my hair long, I could just wear a wig but so far I still love my big chop. These are just a few things to think about. You definitely have to make the decision that works best for you. I hope you love and grow from whatever decision you make.

Having short hair has given me the most freedom I’ve ever had with my hair. My life is so much easier. If you don’t wanna cut your hair this is a good time for braids. You can cleanse your hair after you swim and still maintain your style with braids or twists.

    Hi, I'm 15 years old and I'm considering doing the big chop(after I lose weight) because Idk how to manage my hair. I'm half Jamaican and half Italian so I have a fro. My dad nor his side of the family was around to teach me to do my hair and it's been sososo hard to try and learn to manage and it's damaged. My mom(Italian) doesn't know how to handle my hair so she suggested I cut it. I'm really considering it and when someone tells me I shouldn't do something it makes me want to do it and so many people told me not to cut it and now I REALLY can't wait to cut it especially since I've seen your vids

      “When someone tells me I shouldn't do something it makes me want to do it”. OMG I am the same way! LOL “No” and “impossible” are my least favorite words so much so that when I was told that my tightly coiled natural hair could not do anything but just be a fro, I set out to prove the opposite...I did every style I wanted on my own and each style turned out bomb!!! Naptural85 was my favorite channel to watch when my hair was long. She helped me get the perfect twistout every time. You may find helpful tips on how to manage your fro on her channel. Be sure to cut your hair only when you are truly ready because it is a drastic change that may take some time to get used to. Whatever you decide, I hope you enjoy the journey.

    I NEED HELP... I'm honestly considering this, the only thing stopping me is a front section of my head doesn't curl at all not even to the root. I've been oiling it up with JMC and trying to manipulate it with twists to curl it but it won't go. I believe I have 4a hair but a looser texture of 4a. After washing my hair its jus so dry and not good. The rest of my hair curling wise is okay but it still spilt at the ends and damaged. I haven't put it under heat and honestly have been trying to keep it healthy. I think ill give it to the end of July and if nothing happens ill do it but I'm honestly scared and don't really know what's going to happen.

    • @LoriLoveTV
      @LoriLoveTV  4 года назад +1

      Maintaining a healthy meal plan that includes eating more fruits and vegetables, drinking plenty of water, getting adequate rest and doing your best to live a stress free lifestyle can help our hair thrive. If your hair is not curling because it is damaged, it will eventually grow in healthy. In order to get rid of damaged hair or split ends you can gradually trim your hair over time, you do not have to big chop. Also, setting the front section ofyour hair with perm rods may help it curl so it can blend with the rest of your curls. If you are not 100% ready to big chop, you definitely shouldn’t. Make sure you are fully confident with whatever you decide to do with your hair because it need time to grow back and you will have to live with whatever choice you make.

    • @LoriLoveTV
      @LoriLoveTV  2 года назад +2

      Either one works. It just depends on the look you’re going for. I personally prefer clippers because the guards give me more control over the length. If you choose to use scissors, make sure you get shears which are specifically designed for cutting hair. Maybe a friend can help cut your hair with the scissors so they can actually see the length which ensures that your haircut is even. I show how easy it is to use clippers in my TWA Cut and Color video. I hope you like your new hair cut 🤍

      Just know that you're beautiful with or without hair because you are still you! You just have a different hair style. Hopefully, by now, your hair has grown in enough to style it in a way that makes you feel more like yourself. Sending you love ♥♥♥
