Y'all, don't be afraid to get those relaxed cut off! I was holding on to those relaxed ends like a bad relationship. I had my hair cut down to an inch! That was in Feb. 2019. I now have hair down my back! With proper treatment and care, you'll be surprised how fast your hair grows! Let it go, ladies. Let it go!

I cut mine down to an inch back in ‘98 to be natural! People thought I had lost my mind! I’ve grown it out mid back several times even going back to relaxed. I was almost waist length but a few weeks ago cut off 2 inches because I’m transitioning which is something I’ve never done cause I’ve always chopped. Im doing twist outs and it blends the two textures really well. Her hair looks so lovely and healthy in the video!! Love it!!😍

I’ve never big chopped. I had shoulder length hair that I simply trimmed once a month. I think if you trim More often while transitioning you won’t need to big chop. I was taking off like 1/2 inch every 4 weeks. I did twist outs and would roll the ends with rods. No direct heat and bi-monthly deep conditioning. You just have to have patience and put in the effort. I’m natural for 5 years and I don’t know exactly at what point I was completely natural but my hair is longer than it’s ever been.

So when I finally got to go to a haircarer it had been 4 months since I last relaxed my hair. And you know seeing another pro stylist comb thru wet hair but yet another 'pro' stylists says not to it just shows you that you just have to know your own hair to know what really works. Hair looks fine and good too.
I know for me combing thru while wet is fine. Some people don't like to do it and so they detangle on dry hair with oil so it is up to the person. This is why even pro's shouldn't be telling people things in absolutes.

I did my big chop at the beginning of quarantine last year. It was the best decision I ever made. It’s growing back nicely but not as fast as I hoped. Nevertheless I’m glad I don’t need relaxers anymore.

No, I went through a big chop a year and a half ago. My stylist knew the old relaxed hair was dead weight and was full of split ends... so every time she did a braid foundation for the protective styles I wore... she cut some of the relaxed hair for about 3 months. My hair is healthy and strong, relaxer free!!!

And my hair was sooo damaged from relaxer over processing and glued in weaves.

I have been afraid to do chop to transition into natural but this video helped me feel confident

Ooh thanks for this video. I've done a big chop at least 3 times over the past 9 years. I want to say that each time I went 9 months and then cut the relaxed or texturized ends off. My hair doesnt like relaxer anymore, and as thick and hard to comb it is I find it to be healthier and more versatile now

I always had planned at some point I would big chop but my hair wasnt breaking during the transition period. I would get my little trim every hair salon visit and a treatment. I only decided it was time to big chop cause I felt like I am this far why not cut it off and get it over with. Why I didnt cut it off earlier was because my hair was easy to deal with as in styles etc. The reason I went natural was before my relax hair wasnt it. I looked like something out of the nightmare before Christmas. It was light very light and i look like i had health issues. Only to realise the hairdresser would over process my hair every visit. I visited many different salon with the same result. The last salon I visit was the best my hair started to grow and get thick but in my head I was so over the poor care I got from the others. I was natural until I was 11 after that my mom relax my hair and never was the same. I'm trying to love my natural hair growing up my natural hair was always a problem for my mom as a child. Now I have the longest natural hair in the family 4c and proud. I think its important we teach out kids to love natural hair from young. I really hope other kids don't grow up like me hating the hair that naturally grows on your head. Because I did from because of my family until now there are those family members who would always say you had no hair as a young child. Your mom use to hurt her hands to do your hair it was that short and hard to do.

I would not hold on to the relaxed ends because eventually the dead weight will affect the new hair...

I big chopped after releasing myself from the claws of a narcissist. I discovered I had beautiful curls & my hair has been thriving. It's growing so long. I will never return to relaxed hair or that man.

Cut it off. All that dead hair is going to destroy the natural hair and you could end up bald if you go too long. Nobody wants their hair to be unhealthy.

No, because I realize it breaks my hair off. And it's much harder to comb and detangle. I went from shoulder length to 3in left on my head. My hair fell out so bad. After my 3 in cut it grew back longer than before with in only one year

I went natural because I felt like perms were thinning out my hair. I already had bra strap length hair . And after my big chop it was cut off up to shoulder length. And that was almost ten years ago. And I’ve been natural every since no regrets!!!

  • @singer6546

No I wouldn't hold on to those ends of permed/frayed hair. Reason being is that the hair would not style or lay right. And would simply be a hot fried country mess! 🤣
