Girl, I've learned that sometimes you have to do everything WRONG just to know what the right thing to do is! But i guess that's why its called a journey!
I appreciate your honesty, I haven't seen a journey this honest. I have felt all those emotions and people rarely talk about the emotional roller-coaster it is to go natural
The bounce of your hair is so mesmerising 🤩🤩 I shaved my head a couple of times, my last was in April of this year...I don't give a red, blue or black flying fish what anyone's opinion is as long as I feel comfortable in my skin. Ugly is relative.
Thanks so much girl! I wish I was as strong as you when I first big chopped, but I grew to love myself unapologetically through the process so I'm grateful for that!
I Big chopped two months ago and I’m so happy i did. My curls are back after years of flat ironing and then I bleached it and ruined my curls so I’m happy to see my hair healthy again. You look amazing.
Yes, "fake it until you make it!" Struggling to love my cut - for similar reasons. Currently in your March phase. I think (unfortunately) much of the way we view ourselves, lie within the concept that having long hair makes us beautiful. It is a painful process trying to see yourself for yourself, bald and all! This is so raw and I appreciated every second; the RUclips recommendation I did not know I needed. Thank you so muh beautiful. 🥺🤍
I did the big chop and my hair is already growing back fast! People do not agree with my decision because my hair was so long, but it was so damage. Now, it’s back fuller and healthy again. I do not care about length it’s about heath. I will keep my hair in braids until it grow out a little longer, and then I will get it shaped and rock my curls again. . I can tell the big chop has been hair for you . Don’t worry it was hard for me as well. Your hair looks so beautiful and matches you !!!
This video touched me so much because I just shaved all my damaged chemically straightened hair off about 3 weeks ago. And everything you felt is how I’ve been feeling, Thank you for this video it helped me Immensely. 💚
I’m so impressed by this video and happy you were able to document your journey for us to see. You expressed all stages we go through from having a big chop and also gave great advice. I’m almost 5 months in and I’m loving getting to know my hair and I get more and more comfortable as the days goes by. It’s a journey but I’m learning so much!
Just stumbled on your video. My big chop was the beginning of my healing journey. I needed this video. I am a year into growing out my hair. I am trying to get used to the new hair look. Again new chapter to a healing journey. Ugh
Loved your video !!! Gave me the extra confidence boost I needed and I hate the fact that such an empowering thing such as wearing our natural hair can be overshadowed by hate and envy , keep doing you beautiful !!!
Thank you so much for this video, I have only been natural 4 months but I am loving the journey!! Yes you just have to be yourself and love the skin and hair you are in. Glad you got it while young and not in your 40's like me to realize that👍🏼
I cut mine September 19, 2022. It feels liberating! I wash in 5 minutes. It's a whole restart, refresh and time to learn about my hair and what it likes and not. And I don't regret it.
Your hair is lovely.healthy curls. I big chopped 8 months love my curls love the journey. Just know all lessons learned. U are such a pretty young lady and your hair Is just lovely.
Yesterday was my one year big chop Anniversary. I have a head full of hair. I didn't do alot of work to it. I combed it every three or four weeks, I'd detangle it with my fingers b4 I combed it and I only washed it about six times. My hair is very thick and the shrinkage is real. I usually just put on a band and that's it. It works for me. Best decision I ever made. Thinking about doing it again.
Wow, you wouldn't be able to tell that you didn't feel confident after your big chop because to me you look sooo beautiful and chic....For me, I have big chopped in the past, back in 2011, and I went back to perming my hair. I have been through so much with my hair and got it to grow to mid back length with a relaxer but recently I experienced tremendous shedding and it took a toll on my hair. I hate how limp and thin it feels. The only thing stopping me from shaving it off are superficial reasons, and people around me telling me my hair looks fine the way it is now. I am trying to build up the courage to shave it
aanays have you tried transitioning? I am currently transitioning for the second time...didn’t make it the first time and gave in It might the subtle change your looking for, people will eventually adjust...Atleast that’s what I’m telling myself
I transitioned about 7 years ago when I first went natural. I was still un high school and playing a lot of sports. I kept my hair weaved up and in ponytails the whole time. It took about 1 1/2 to 2 years to get to collarbone length when straightened. But it was so hard but I think because of the pressure of school peers so I never wore my transitioning hair out. I would say find a style that works and is easy to do and just stick with it ( like perm rods, braid outs etc.) I wish you the best of luck on your journey 💛
It's definitely a tough bridge to cross, but once you do you'll feel refreshed, I learned a lot about myself through this journey. Like when I had long hair i completely neglected my skin, so when I shaved my hair and i couldn't hide my skin anymore, I really had to take a step back a realized I was using it as a mask. My confidence was an extension of my hair and I really didn't want to be a slave to something that I'm not even guaranteed to have for the rest of my life y'know. But I hope you find the confidence soon, if you go to a salon or barber just make sure they talk to through their ideas of what works best for you. A shape can do a lot
I’m currently transitioning from having permed hair all my life...I started transitioning last year all the way from April 2018 to April 2019...however I relaxed my hair again. I was in the first semester of pregnancy and every product I grew to love made me literally want to puke and my energy I had the year beforehand vanished all within my pregnancy. After the baby was born I started my transitioning again and this time ima sticking with it no excuses. Thank you for being bold and posting your journey your a voice for many who just needed to see an example. I’m going to get to your level one of these days 🤞🏾
Deese Nuts I honestly do love straight hair! I straightened my hair in May twice but I don’t want hear damage. I’m currently 11 months transitioning next month will be 1 year!
Lee_ Rayyy Awesome! I say do what you want. As long as it isnt a relaxer or bleach/too much bleach lol. You have to pick a side tho. If you love/will wear your hair mostly curly then flat iron sparingly, if you love/will wear your hair straight then start off by blowdrying and flat ironing once every 1 to 2 months. Keep deep conditioning and do a protieb treatment every 3 months. My hair was so healthy in both states.
I related so much to this video. You’re a gorgeous girl with gorgeous curls! I’m so happy there was so much truth in this video about the attachment to hair for the wrong reasons and the negativity in the natural hair community.
Love the honesty! My hair was healthy and long but I just wanted a change. It’s been two weeks and I regret it sometimes but I’m learning so much about myself and relearning how to love myself.
Every one of your pics and your current hair are gorgeous. Like it or not hair is a part of the way we see ourselves even if the change is welcomed. It is a very emotional process.
I'm contemplating it. My hair is my statement piece. Although its damaged, split ends, dry, permed some and never grow past the base of my neck. I am keeping my hair for superficial reasons. And I think whatever confidence I have it will go out the window. I dont have a feminine look , so I will look like a boy 😭😭😭😭🤦♀️. I'm scared but I want stronger healthier hair. I watch silk press videos like a lion watch its prey. But I just dont have the courage to obtain those lengths. 😭
I would never suggest cutting of all your hair unless you are 100% ready because the shock is tough to deal with at times. BUT in my opinion short healthy hair always compliments someone better than long damaged hair. If short hair isn't what you want then transition until you're comfortable with the length. If you're considering cutting the go to s natural hair stylist or a barber that can create a shape that compliments your face shape. I personally prefer barbers. But regardless the I'm sure you won't look like a boy, as long as you love it and rock it with confidence no one else can say anything, others feed off of your energy anyways y'know. I wish you the best of luck on your journey!❤️
@@khyjoelle thank you. Like you said having long and damaged is bad. I'm 31 and my hair never seems to make it past my neck and if it do I have split ends because you can see through the ends plus my hair Is somewhat permed. The stylist told me that it will take 2 years to grow the perm out. I had a L shape sew in . But like some women I permed my hair because I was goin to see a guy🤷♀️. Anyways. I know that shock will be real because I watched "Nappily ever after"🤣. The morning after she was terrified. So my go to hairstyle would be to wear caps until my hair get to a certain length.
I did the big chop while ppl know I cut it I just throw a wig on until I’m ready to share it on the regular basis... but I was tired of my damaged broken hair cause nothing was working luckily now my hair is growing and my curl pattern is now back
Awwwwh, he is such a good boyfriend! I know how you felt!! However, your hair looks gorgeous and it will be back long in no time!! I mean you rocked the hell out of that short cut. I wish I looked that good with a cut like that!! I know easier said then done. How you feel is different than what people are seeing. To me you look very pretty with it!
I did a big chop week before last and man it s like a hot topic every body asking why i chop my hair off like its mines i do whatever ever I want my hair !!!! i had relax hair from grade 10 my hair started to break the back was tall the front short damage much so im on a journey now lord help me my hair is hard to deal with in its natural state .... But im hopeful 🙌🙏❤️

Thank you for the video I’m 20 years older than you and I just did a big chop 3 days ago and you are right I lost my confidence I was could still be perceived as pretty
I have female pattern baldness due to hormonal issues. I've been contemplating getting a twa because of how thin my hair is becoming but I'm worried that short hair style will show my scalp since I can't hide with certain hair styles
You are so blessed to have the head shape for every length of hair bc some of us have Roger from American Dad heads… 😂 so until I get a few more inches I will continue to cover my hair lmao

I just did a big chop but i don’t know what products are good to define curls :/ helppp
water, shea butter, curl custard/aloe vers gel/ alcohol free gel.
So sorry for the late reply, try and figure out your porosity and density first to figure out what products would be compatible with your hair type!
I went to school with the girl next to you in the picture at 6:25.. small world
