    There's also natural mordants for those interested or who don't have various pots.

      Hi Rebecca, I love using different home made tannins for tannin and iron reactions but from the eco printing perspective don't personally use them as a mordant. I've done many experiments using Symplocos however and that is an interesting avenue to explore!

    Hello Nicola! Congratulations on your beautiful work! When the fabrics are inside the pot, is it immersed in water, or does the water sit underneath to produce only steam?

    I'm ecoprinting for the first time. Fingers crossed it turns out well. 🤞🏼 Should the fabric always be boiled (with the flowers/leaves and in between layer all rolled up) for the prints to appear?

      You’re very welcome, I’m delighted that you enjoyed the video! I should also add that I do include information about which leaves and plants to use sometimes as I saw you asked that earlier then edited your comment. I’ll be posting at least one video each week (on Wednesdays barring an emergency) and hope to start posting show style videos where I answer questions from workshop students. You can also ask me things in the community tab (only works from a mobile phone or computer, not tablet) and that way I might get to answer them.

    Hi Nicola, incredible videos thank you so much! They are so informative. I have a quick question though, the metal plates you used, were they also iron? Is that why they had an effect on the fabric?

    • @clasheen
      @clasheen  Год назад

      Hi Lucinda, sorry for my slow reply. Yes, the plates were metal, they had rusted with use and that is why they had such a wonderful effect on the fabric!

  • @spraycandy01
    @spraycandy01 2 года назад

    I love this! Does it work with natural dyeing too?

    • @clasheen
      @clasheen  2 года назад

      Yes and no! With certain vegetation it's possible to achieve beautiful, washable and colourfast naturally dyed fabric without using traditional powdered mordants, eucalyptus leaves and bark would be a very good example. Most other vegetation needs to be used with mordanted fabric though because otherwise the dye will either wash out, fade almost immediately or turn colour AND fade. I'm actually planning a video about using eucalyptus as a natural dye soon so if you're not already subscribed to my newsletter please consider doing so and you won't miss out! How long the textile proceses in pot? To achieve nice colour?

    • @clasheen
      @clasheen  10 месяцев назад

      This all depends on the vegetation that you are using, not the fabric. Onion skins release good colour after 2 hours, most soft leaves work well after 2.5 hours however some eucalypts need up to 5 hours for the best prints.
