Do you have a video I missed talking about the care for fabrics after flower pressing? I am curious about how long the patterns last and how you would wash the clothes.
What a total pleasure to see you create such a gorgeous print! Your crop top will be a sensation anywhere you go! People brave enough will go right up to you & ask you about it, while other will admire it & wonder how you did it!! Thank you for sharing!! I’m excited because this next weekend, I will be taking an eco-print class. We will print onto linen, cotton, & possibly silk. Can’t wait to see your next videos!!! This morning I went to a middle aged woman who lives in the village where I moved 4 years ago to ask if I could use her abandoned 300 square metres to grow dye flowers but she said No. I'm sad now and I understand your gratefulness very much
you pronounced it very well dear! (botanical dyer here in Japan), tataki (comes from the verb tataku (to hit or beat), zome comes from some (sew meh) meaning to dye, when 'some' comes after another word, we pronounce it as a z' sound, so tataki zome. Hapa means leaf, so hapazome is leaf dye. Ai (eye) is the word for Japanese indigo , therefore Aizome is indigo dye. i think the lady you borrow the garden from would maybe love a table cloth or table runner to have flowers on to remember summer garden :)
i just cone across your video.. i was so amazed that this tecnique existed..and lucky that i come across yourvideo. i was wondering . when you mention prefix??? how do you do that and what matetiak to use..
Would rinsing in a salt solution to fix and then ironing work. With the Soya , do you boil it and then leave the cloth in the milk? Do you then rinse and hammer while still damp. Loved the video. I noticed in the garden you had what looked like lemon or peach trees. Are you in the UK. x
Could you offer tips to me? I’m wanting to make a baby jumper and would use organic cotton. What mordant should I use? Also, I love your videos. They are informative, inspiring, and so calming. Thank you.
Hello, i like your videos, they are very inspiring and beautiful to me! I also like the way you make them, so I have a question - what kind of camera do you use and how you edit the video, what kind of filters do you use?
A very beautiful creation😍😍😍.Does the color of these flowers change when drying or washing at the end of the creation? Can any cotton fabric be used?please tell me
The colours stick around through washing and drying because she pre-treated the fibre with alum and a tannin. Any natural fibre can be used! So any cotton, linen, hemp, silk, wool etc. I think how loose or tightly woven, how thick or thin the fabric is probably impacts how it soaks up the colour, but all would work.
@BillyNou Im so happy I found your channel! This is so lovely and you have such a calming energy💞 I have one question I hope you’ll see and answer🙏 You mentioned using “scrap cloth” on each side of your shirt…but not what type of fabric it is. Does the type of fabric contribute to the results? Thank you💞
Hey so yes I’m just using a piece of scrap cotton or linen or whatever I have lying around… I prefer something a little thicker because I feel like it’s extra stable and there’s little bleeding of the colours 🌸❤️
thanks for the vid, super helpful! I'm wanting to do this on a parasol I am making, i'm worried the sun might fade the flowers though, do you know whether this will happen or should it be okay? i'd really appreciate some help!! thank you! xx
Hello it is quite likely that the sun will fade the prints over time…. There are steps you can take to minimise like properly mordanting your fiber and choosing good dye flowers 🌸
if you check her other videos she shows tannin premordant . you can also search for alum pre mordant on youtube, usually it is 10% of alum diluted in warm water, (10 % of the weight of the fabric you are dyeing) , the water should be the volume enough to soak your fabric in, i usually leave it in this mordant for an hour in hot weather or several hours to overnight in cold weather,. wring out the water, let it sit for 12 hours to bind even longer with the material, lastly rinse well. then you will flower pound onto dry fabric, and dont wash straight away, if you can leave it for even up to a week in a dry airy place out of direct sunlight, then iron to set even further, then you can gently hand wash and always dry in the shade,
@@naughtyskyline Excellent. I was just going to mordant / hold dye by boiling a tshirt and adding a tablespoon of alum. I've just done an ecoprint with alum as a mordant with paper, worked quite well. Thanks!!
Could you make a video about what kind of cloth you use for your project? I am trying to find cloth, but there is so many kinds. And I don’t know what’s best for different projects or where to buy them
Listened again and I heard you say tannin and alum and that the material was damp which makes more sense to me. Still don’t know if there’s anything you do before you wash it. Thanks for the fun video, I’ve done bundle dyeing but never this technique.
I don't know if St. John's Wort makes an actual dye, but it would be an interesting experiment. If you take a flower stalk of it, place it between paper napkins (or fabric?) - then use a rolling pin to press it, it will leave a pleasing imprint of pink! 💓
Hey dear, It's permanent one or if we wash it will get discharged.? And which is used to get permanent colour in fabric using natural dyes .it is possible..
The colours slowly fade with sun exposure and washing, but last longer with fibre that has been pretreated with a mordant and with gentle washing. If you think about it, all historical garments were dyed with natural dyes prior to the invention of synthetic ones, and many textiles in museums still have colour! So although it fades, it won't wash out immediately. The flowers she used are all known as good dye plants, so will last longer than other ones.
So are you saying you can soak the fabric in soy milk 1st and then pound the flowers? I'd love to do this with my granddaughter. But don't want to mess with chemicals.
Forgot to use a mordant on old tank top and print flowers with a weight and hot sunny day for 1-3 days. It came out pretty well and stayed thru 1 wash so far. Isnt as detailed as pounding though. Nice video !

@BillyNou. The top looks beautiful .... Your hard work pays off
But how did you fix the color
Thank you! I pre mordanted the top and heat set it with an iron after dyeing
Beautiful piece of work! What do you do to fox the colours in place after pounding,? Is it ok to wash it in the washing machine or only hand wash?
I’ve washed mine in the machine gently with cool water a few times but I would always say hand wash to be careful
Can I user flowers from a store like fresh flowers? as I don’t have enough flowers in my garden :) 😊
Yes of course… sole flowers will work better than others… marigolds, coreopsis and purple pin cushion flowers are all good options 🌸

Do you vaporized the garment after the pounding to fixate the flowers pigments?

Natural fibers like 100% cotton, linen, silk, wool. You wash it well before printing to remove any chemical treatments applied during manufacture.
Will these colors go away after washing?

Hey, a tannin bath is a vessel of water where tannin powder or anything high in tannin is extracted 😊
I naturally dyed a cotton towel and mordanted it with alum. Do you have to mordant fabric every time you want to apply a new dye or technique?
It’s recommended but not always 100% necessary 😊
