I once heard that Allen Collins & Gary Rossington considered continuing their '70s run with "Lynyrd Skynyrd", if Paul Rogers would have accepted their request to fill the opening for a frontman, left after Ronnie Van Zant's untimely death. Unfortunately for tham & Skynyrd fans, he turned down the offer.

Many if us old heads lived our lives like a candle in the wind.. I burned many years away on every hard ass drug to be had in the 70s and there were way too many Thankfully God Saved me from that self destruction. Then I had a family and I had no idea I Was addicted again. I became a workaholic. One day I took a look around. My kids were grown I was divorced and alone. Oh how I wish I would have had since enough to slow down and enjoy a bit more of life we look around in the blink of an eye. We are old and just waiting........

That's true.......but Paul Rogers was never a SCREAMER. Thinking of the obvious comparison on the 2 band label of Swan Song Robert Plant is a good example of the other way to go. Plant gave us some memorable vocals that are still to this day my own all time favorite. But plant pushed HARD for those screams in pitch and lots of falsetto. If you listen to old Led Zepplin his voice was pretty much starting to reveal the limits and damage even before John Bonham's death ended the band. Rogers on the other-hand always pushed his voice to that point where it sounds BEST but never beyond that point where you get more out today at the expense of longevity. Smooth as silk and perfect for the music they played. Today still mostly intact decades later.

This song connects everyone. It starts out as an ode to the superficiality of rock stardom, becomes a larger metaphor for youth and the ephemeral nature of our humanity, eventually coming full circle as a bittersweet celebration of survivors whose time, like Johnny's, is measured. I think the irony of this performance is not lost on Paul and his bandmates, who seem to play with humility and love for their fans.
    Or maybe I'm drunk.

As a student of Joseph Cammbell, I couldn't agree more re the "larger metaphor . The video does an excellent job showing this metaphor in explicit action by cutting back to two young 20 something ladies singing with vim and vigor while we aging boomers (becoming increasingly much more mass than energy despite our best efforts to the contrary) and are just mildly standing around and mildly dancing.

This man Paul Rodgers, The ultimate rockband frontman , Has the world at his feet, whichever band he fronts from Free, Bad co, Queen , He is the master. You cannot get better. I don't think that there has ever been any of the other three great frontmen, Plant, Daltrey or Mercury that were even in the same league as this man and he is still in his prime .

I agree he has gotten better I think if that is possible over the years he could sing a lot of peoples own songs better than them lol

@Wade Brown I've known about Jimmy Barnes since he dueted with Michael Hutchence/INXS.

Paul Rodgers is my favorite front man of any classic rock bands. He is definitely the most musically talented of any of them, as he is a multi instrumentalist as well. But the best frontman I've ever seen was Michael Hutchence of INXS. I've never seen anything like that before or since. He had the crowd in the palm of his hand. Beautiful women in every direction were panting after him. Paul Rodgers is right up there for sure, though.

Truly timeless is his voice and you can tell Mr Rogers takes care of himself. Blessings to you. I'm at church singer and worshiper and leading worship and have enjoyed singing solos all these years and I love it. And I really enjoy hearing call Rogers he has an amazing voice and talent.
