- Holy wow this thing still packs a punch but that quad core is starting to become a limitation. Something I didn't note in the video is that editing on this thing was GOD AWFUL. The bar graph section had it's preview run at 8 FPS! Yow!

@@infinite7620 Well the 970M isn't great these days. It has the horsepower to game but not the VRAM.
@@DimondDoesTech 100% true, but… you are also forgetting about Alienware graphics amplifier. 😇 and yea the 970m lacks vram and ofc it’s not state of the art anymore… however my bottleneck isn’t the gpu for my game titles since I use a 2080 ti in tandem with it. it’s my cpu that can’t keep up. And that was 260 fps on my 970m not the 2080ti just to clarify.
P.s. (I’m using the i7 build with 32gb ram + ssd and m.2s+ 144hz monitor) I’m still very satisfied with this laptop haha. It’s surprising what it can do even though it’s 8 years old. Deff going to use it until it finally decides to die.
@@infinite7620 Hell I had no idea you also had the AGA! In that case your 6700hq is deffo the bottleneck there big time. 3.1GHz on 4 cores is not very good these days

There's actually a mobile GTX 980 with full shaders and 8GB VRAM, called simply GTX 980.
I know that this does have 8GB of vram but the performance I saw, well you could tell it was not 2048 cuda cores. However that sounds very interesting that you could find a full fat 980 in a laptop with just double the vram.
Edit: Oh yeah there totally is! Its an MXM variant but that is kinda dumb isn't it? Its much faster than the regular 980 but is still technically called the same thing. Very very weird.
I had a 6700hq gtx 980 alienware 15 r2. It was pretty terrible. Ran too hot quadcores on windows 10 are slow and it was a pretty stuttery experience with its limited clock speed.
Honestly with what I've experienced the issue you have more than likely is just old thermal paste & old thermal pads. In fact in an up coming video the thermal pads for my 6820hk actually limit me to ~65w power draw for an all core load. But yeah the 6700HQ was rather limiting for the short period I used this laptop with the 6700hq & 970m config but the 970m was the far more limiting factor there

im using Alienware 15 R2 with upgraded 32 gb 2133mhz DDR4 RAM. Can I use 3200mhz DDR4 RAM on this laptop?
You could but there would be no point as the BIOS does not allow you to adjust the clock speed of the RAM. However you could get a performance improvement IF you found some RAM with very tight timings as those are always applied regardless of clock speed, at least from what I've found on Dellalienware machines before.

Its because your device has no service code. Go search for one and enter it in the blank space in your BIOS then itll install

I have neither but I have played warzone on a similarly specced system and I'd say that 70fps with the GTX980M is about all you can expect on 1080p High
