Just wanted to clarify potential confusion. You might still catch a DBD stream here and there on my Twitch channel as a lot of my audience still enjoys watching me play it. But there won't be new DBD content created for RUclips/TikTok etc. I'll be creating Variety content/discussions going forward. And as we (hopefully) start to find that new Variety audience, you'll see less and less DBD on Twitch as well. I feel I have a lot more to offer as a content creator than just focusing on one game, as I just love talking about gaming and entertainment in general ❤

Not always. The cosmetic shop was only added a couple years ago actually, but the moment it DID het added I saw the writing on the wall and stopped playing and I have heard nothing but b****ing about the game ever since. Don't get me wrong, DBD is RIFE with amateur developmental errors and mistakes that should have never been a thing and their team is too big and has too much money now to justify the snails pace they take to these things. In fact, I think the game fundamentally needs to be changed because nothing about its current design is actually fun; players literally have to seek the Killer out because it's the only time the game is interesting and the Killers play less like they are trying to KILL people and more like they are trying to catch a bunch of naughty children at a daycare.
      The microtransactions though?
They started with the usual routes, then they added battle passes, then they added prestige items and timed additions to create a sense of FOMO AKA Fear of Missing Out. And just recently RETROACTIVELY bundled all of the Killer DLC's just so you have to pay MORE if you want a single Killer... All while removing old items like Shards which used to let you take Killers for a test drive before buying them. This stuff is objectively predatory on the consumer, but gets worse when you realize they never stop excusing themselves and their slow production with "We are working hard and are so busy" and then pop out cosmetics at 4 times the rate of ACTUAL content updates. This game, by the way, is not FREE and didn't used to be on certain platforms. There isn't a justification for this, people had been buying this game at FULL PRICE for years beforehand and then they retrofitted it into a "F2P" microtransaction game... While making sure not to kiss their chance to make it more woke and change old characters like David King into things they were never designed to be.
I don't know why some people are so ardent about defending Behavior. They are an AWFUL company.

Omg it's crazy how the community has not changed since I've last played. I started playing DBD back in 2017 on ps4. I played it until 2020. I have a total of 1,643 hours on the game. I loved DBD when I played it but I quit for one specific reason which I see is still a problem today, the community. I played as a survivor main and was a runner, I understood the frustration of being a killer and a survivor so when I played killer I played as fair as I could. No tunneling, no camping the hook, and flat out ignoring people I just hooked to go for another person. Yet even if I did play fair like that win or lose I'd get a message from people saying how trash I was and how good they were and how I'm toxic and their reporting me, etc. It was every match whether killer or survivor I'd get a message on my play style. The last chapter I played was the beginning of cursed legacy and then I shortly quit after that and have no plans of coming back to the game due to the communitys hostility toward other players.

I have only been playing since the beginning of this year, and the dark side of the community is the main problem with the game, for sure. My favorite is just playing customs with people I know, solo que is brutal, and playing k!ller can be especially frustrating. I'm a survivor main, but dabble with Ghostface. The thing is, a player in any game looking for meta builds will always find it whether the person gets it from a content creator, another player in game, forums, or tournaments.
The responsibility to this issue lies on the developers to control and manage the "Meta" so that no handful of builds will perform exponentially better than other builds. A way to do this is magnify the issue, so the developers prioritize the problem and fix it, so the player base calms down, spends money and time into the game, and doesn't scare off new players.

Not as long as something doesn't come along, that scatches that gameplay itch. I just feel that the odds are starting to stack against them, as we see more and more people leaving due to reasons similar to what is explained in the video. And on top of that, new players getting frustrated and getting into a different, more beginner friendly game entirely.

Build 2. botany knowledge + self care will make self healing a little faster than what it originally was before they nerfed self care & slowed it down; combine those 2 with buckle up & for the people...
... run right near the killer chasing the survivor & once the killer has knocked down a survivor, you will have enough time to use for the people to get them off the ground while the killer wipes their blade & you both will have endurance for 10 seconds.
Build 3. Distortion + calm spirit which shuts down the doctor's shocks + shuts down the clown's gas because you won't scream for either... add both of those perks with any combination you feel like.
It isn't that hard to still think of useful builds.
You could combine plot twist, tenacity, botany knowledge & self care even.
Try to think outside the box 👍
There is nothing funnier than watching a killer knock down a survivor, you get them up instantly with for the people, then the killer hits you or the other survivor but you both have endurance so don't fall down... which wastes more time & gives that extra time to those on gens 😌
If you're really bored then use blast mine to trap a gen & use red herring. You enter a locker which draws the killer to the trapt gen & they get stunned & blinded 😂
Which at that moment they realized you set them up to waste their time.
If you want entertainment then also use wire tap sp you can see the killer (aura) & you along with other survivors can watch the killer get blown up 😂😂😂😂😂
      Make your own entertainment 😌

I don't think most people know the history of the game. They basically hit the jackpot. Originally, the game was designed as a side game and not expected to be a hit. It was just a knock off that the devs thought people would play for a cheap thrill, while they were looking to develop a real title. But fate turned out. The game was a hit, surprising the devs. Years ago, they said it in their old live streams. It was a known thing. But, after they had a hit on their hands. They tried to balance it. But found out they couldn't. That's why the gave up, and only balance it around casuals. Otz knows this. I guess he was a dreamer (like we all were) and thought he could change their business model. But realizing now his mistake.

I used to play on call with a friend who just cared for his own survival. No generators touched and being chased was "just throw down all the pallets immediately with windows of opportunity, no windows vaulted ever" and because he used bond, he would bring the killer on other survivors, injured or not, while we were healing each other, or while we were doing gens. Then the killer gets on us, we don't have any pallets left, and guess what....he doesn't touch a gen, because killers check on gens and he doesn't want to die... Sooo... And even after complaining to him about it several times he never changed. Everyone died and then he would go "beg" the killer to spare him, give him hatch or let him escape, all while farming each other for several minutes. So first he got me and the others killed and then he "forced" me to just watch him play/farm. Oh, and if the killer wouldn't spare him, he insulted them, called them names and reported them. Generally he would always report killers who killed him at any point of the match and no matter how many times i told him that was unacceptable he just kept on doing it. We're no longer friends, but i bet he still plays the same. Toxic guy.

Yeah, this game is just an addiction to me at this point. I’m having more miserable times and a lot of my games as survivor end with me just blank-faced and emotionless. Killer games just become way too overbearing, since I get more and more swf teams, despite the fact I try and play without any real gen regression, which leads to gen rushing and general frustrations as killer. No cheater situations really for me, which is good, but almost 2000 hours in the game and I barely get rewarded at all for it. After the Christmas event, I think I’m gonna step away for a while. Focus on other things and new games, for my sake.

I've gotten to the point where I am done. I started playing DBD with my husband back in 2019 - the ceiling to "get good" is quite high. You really can't just start playing and expect to know what's going on and do well. So we started watching Puppers and other steamers we liked and that's how I learned how to play. I still only play very casually and less and less frequently.
But now we've entered a period where the developers just keep adding more. The game gets more and more complicated. I still don't understand how to play against certain killers & the only reason I sort of know is by watching Otz/Naymeti/Slate/etc. How can we ever expect someone to just pick up this game? Why keep adding more and more and making the game more complicated? I personally think the devs need to add different gamemodes or let me have the ability to choose a killer to not play against before queueing up. Idk, they need to do something different. I'm tired of having to keep up with all the new killers. I want to just play, know what's going on, and have fun. That's gone for me now. And I'm done.

As disappointing and heartbreaking it is to see Otz who genuinely cares more about DBD than BHVR feel so defeated by the apathy of the developers, it makes it clear that I as a player should have 0 expectations of the game to ever change in a meaningful way. I had hoped that we could maybe see a new game mode to bring much needed life into a game that hasn't changed its formula in 7 years. Not one alternate game mode ever.
But now I know that will never happen rather than hold out hope that they care to listen to players.

  • @Voltron5000
    @Voltron5000 9 месяцев назад +7

The biggest problem with the game is BHVR doesn't want the headache of moderating in game text/voice chat so they balance the game with the idea of solo queue in mind.
This leads to such a massive gap between solo and SWF that the game is near impossible to balance and leads to massive toxicity. If something tilts too much towards the survivors, SWF will run rampant and killers will get frustrated. If it tilts too much towards the killer, solo queue survivors will feel hopeless.
As long as BHVR continues to stick their head in the sand and pretend Discord doesn't exist, things will never get better, and as the player count dwindles, the focus will continue to be on mtx to keep profits up and sunk cost fallacy players into sticking around.
It's an ever accelerating death spiral.

About the "YEARS" discussion at 10:10, I'm a game developer and can 100% confirm it doesn't take years, even at a corporate level, to implement very minor features such as a bunch of icons that you can slide next to a survivor in the lobby or by hovering their names. So BHVR has either of these problems:
    a) their management sucks so much it takes forever to go through boring meetings to discuss every little detail
    b) they are simply incompetent and they literally program stuff via trial and error
Given how weird and beginner-level most of their bugs are in general and how long it takes them to do *anything* whatsoever, I'd say it's more than likely both options. Anyways, that pretty much screams "we are not even remotely a game dev studio" if you ask me.

Late to the party (I just discovered you), but you had me at 27:37 - your input on negativity is spot-on! I feel like a lot of it has to do more with a lack of empathy (pun intended) by DBD players (especially the ones that only play one side) than anything else. It's a lot easier to blame the other side when you don't experience their point of view as well. I often advise people to try the other side as well.
Just recently I had a recently discovered small streamer/acquientance that kept complaining on and on and on about how the game is extremely killer sided and just non-stop complaining while playing survivor, so I advised her to at least try playing killer as well. Important to note that she is quite new to the game, has around 150-200h I believe and did not understand why killer is "stronger" in a 1v1. So I had to explain that it's because the game is NOT a 1v1, but a 1v4 so of course the killer is going to down the survivor sooner or later.
Obviously, this is just an example, but it goes both sides. I feel like people that only play one side should ALL at least try playing some matches on the other side (I'd even go as far as to say that they should play a bit more than just "some" matches, to understand the nuances as well).
I think people who play or played both sides are generally more chill than those who play only one side. I also find it funny that generally the survivor mains are a lot more... let's just say vocal than the rest, but that may also have to do with the fact that the game is asymetric. This also goes waaaay back to a time before I even started playing, when the survivor rule book was first mentioned.
Point being: it's just a game, not even a competitive one. Internet anonimity does not give you the right to just shit on people over a game. If you don't find it enjoying anymore, just move on. Or if you like it that much, but you just no longer enjoy it, give feedback to the devs whenever possible and take some breaks, hoping they will eventually act on the feedback from us. Maybe in a few YEARS :))

I don't want to sound rude, this is just an advice so take it like one. I think the main problem with players and content creators of this game is that they tend to approach it like a competitive/esport game and overthink/overanalize everything about it. I also stopped playing DBD for some years and just recently came back with a new attitude: this is not a competitive game, it doesn't want to be like one, it's a party game that people want to force into an esport because they are being too competitive and too prideful. Now that i can play this game like a funny survivor-killer simulator with jumpscares and stuff i'm having a more easier time and fun with my friends too, i also enjoyed the various improvements they made for soloQ and the nerf/buffs they did to still make the game more fun and balanced on the way. I think everybody is being too rude with the developers, please stop forcing the toxic competitive mentality into every game and trust me you won't burn out of them. You can try to suggest changings but at the end of the day people jobs depends on the game, they have limited budgets, they have problems we don't even know about, nobody should never shame other people for their work especially after all they have done for the game. They also accomodated the community many times like removing dead hard, sometimes these decisions can kill the player base and they can lose their job, they worked on the visual heartbeat for disabled people, HUD to make the game better, new content and events, can we really be that entitled at this point? We don't know how much work they have to do, again, their budget and everything, their problems, we can't be entitled to demand what we like like that, in my opinion of course.

And yes... Not all SWF are seal team 6, but the fact that we can still call them out from a solo lobby... says enough init? Even goofers I can tell apart easily from a solo lobby. The gap is MASSIVE.
The problem is also that Solo q'ers can't communicate what challenge they are doing. SWF do... Challanges ruin the game for solo lobby... I see so many survivors throw the game for a challange, both as killer and as survivor. its friggin shit.
The fact that even good guy Otz is gettin frustrated beyond reason, says enough. Im also pretty sure BHVR is just going for the cosmetics cash right now, add a character here and there... It's very clear that they have people who are genuine fans of the slasher-killer horror movie genre and that they have some serious input on the map and killer design.
But anything beyond that that goes into the actual crunch/balance of the game and quality-of-life experience? It's something they will only address when their proverbial balls are inches from the bandsaw or when some major problem personally impacts one of the developers. Not to mention the killers you get when you start the game. I JUST got into the game on PC (I was a PS4 player for a long while), and I had only bought 2 DLC characters I played on PS4 to get me started.
So the other killers I have access to? Wraith, Nurse, Hillbilly, Trapper, and Huntress. So 2 killers considered hard, especially for newer players. A medium difficulty killer, a useless killer (sorry Trapper), and Wraith. The only useful killer there is wraith. IMAGINE being a killer main who didn't purchase any DLC dude. So not only are they shitting on the general non-DLC playerbase by removing perks THEY NEED, but also they hardly give them anything to work with (for killer mains, sorry I don't play Surv much, I have no friends).

You get the top tier most OP killer when you start the game. You're completely wrong on that.
On top of that, the other S-tier killer is easily obtainable with in-game currency.
And the Nurse is not that hard, at least I can vouch for PC Nurse. I have 50 hours in this game, and I played only 3 matches as killer, they were 1 Billy, 1 Huntress and 1 Nurse.
And the Nurse was by far the easiest. You immediately get the hang of her blink, it's far easier than Billy's chainsaw, for example.
The only hard part is blinking in multi-storey buildings.

Otzdarva is a very positive, pleasant guy.
He also is one of the best examples of why the community of this game actively ruins the game.
Not because of toxicity, or actively engaging into unfair stuff like cheating - that, of course, IS harmful, but not to this extent.
Not holding developers accountable, forgiving them and ignoring issues, on the other hand - isn't just harmful, it's atrocious. And for the developers such as BHVR who several times shown how they are willing to gimp free or already bought content to give a little bit of incentive to the "new" content, the devs who made monumentally bad technical updates, the devs who blatantly ignore community feedback and common sense for years, the devs who are unable to do ANYTHING to cheaters and to even protect the IP leak - yeah, that is something i just can't get behind of.
Otz isn't a dumbass. He is the smart guy. That's why i so frustrated with his "overpositive" approach. Toxic positivity is a dumb concept, but it clearly is a thing when people defend corporations or any similar large, nameless entities.
At least it seems like even he had enough. Not acknowledging himself to be a part of the problem is kinda sad, but i guess it's just a human nature.
I've stopped playing this game for years now, and i've found there's plenty fish in the sea. And now, considering lethal company is on the rise - there's a great coop game to replace the DbD-shaped hole in your heart, too.

I still think it’s fun, and although I don’t agree with the devs decisions, the community is genuinely never satisfied with anything they do. Every single time they make a change or are working on something, the community is mad about it. They literally put Alien and Chucky into the game where the community was praising the devs, and now we’re back to hating them. Play the game if you want, don’t play it if you don’t like it.

The idea is that the team isn't technically playing as a team. It's supposed to be 1v1, 1v1, 1v1, 1v1, all facing the killer but in a team fashion. So I understand why DBD wants to limit communication for that aspect but the problem is people just get into Discord and make 4 man SWF teams and harass killers.... So I would rather it be changed to a team facing the killer and maybe they introduce a solo que, duo que, and team que potential. Killers would just be adjusted to earn more MMR based on the overall team rating they're facing, with maybe compensating for a swf loss by not losing a drastic amount of elo or maybe having a tick foregiveness once per elo. Like a free loss at high elo. Just my input. Maybe doing it this way would make everyone happy, solo que would stay solo and communicationless. Duo and anything more would be expected teamwork play. Maybe make a symbol to show duos and teams for killers to see that they're facing a team. I think that could help.

Good idea if a Killer play against 4man it should get more MMR and against soloq less

I know what you saying about comms in dbd that info is strong and that whats makes swf stronger than solo BUT the reason they in comms with each other is because they are firends. SWF are not just 4 strangers who just decided to group up and play dbd. So what the devs are saying isnt really untrue. The reason why SFW are strong is bc they know each other and have a common goal and use comms to achieve that goal. Even if you add alot of info for solos or even a voice chat I honestly believe it would not change a thing. Strangers (esp on the internet) tend to not like to talk to or communicate with other strangers. Most ppl on the internet who play games by themselves are introverts. This is also true for other games, look at OW2. It has voice chat build in but NO ONE uses it. I been playing it for a year now and have never seen anyone in my matches even use voice chats or even text chat to do call outs. I honestly believe no amount of info will make the gap between SoloQ and SWF smaller no less close to each other. So this why I kinda see why the devs said what they said to that question. Do I agree with it? Not really I think info would still be nice to have(most just seeing a teammate's perks) but I dont think it will bridge the gap that is between solo and swf. As they said friends by nature will always work together better than 4 compete strangers.

Solo Que is u bearable. I lost a game because I had no way to tell my teamates to help me on this one gen to prevent a 3 gen, I’ve lost games because maybe I know how to counter a killer and my team doesn’t. I couldn’t tell my teamates to not group up so legion doesn’t get easy health states. I can’t communicate which killer it is when I see them so my team is prepared to counter them. Especially on someone like myers. I can’t tell my team where totems are for a boon, or hexes so we can stop hex builds. I can’t tell my team where traps are, where not to go and I most importantly can’t coordinate saves. I can’t tell the random Dwight that’s gen rushing while two of our teamates are about to hit 2 to go save the other person while getting the other. I can’t tell my teamates lets go to boon cus it will cut our healing in half. I can’t tell them to crawl to boon so they can pick themself up out of dying state, I can’t tell them to let me bless the totem and not let them cleanse it cus I have something like overzealous or a boon. There are so many little things that build up to solo que being dysfunctional that coms or even just quicker communication. Like why can’t I throw up a little emote like in fortnite to communicate something. Why do I have to wait 3 seconds for a slow ass emote that my teammate might not even see to come up. If I die on pallet I can’t ask for save I just have to hope someone knows to do it

As someone who does dabble in code, by when they say "Flexibility in lobby screens" they are probably referring to the fact that the way it's coded at this moment doesn't allow that and therefore they are trying to recreate it from the ground up so they can in the future have that.
Hence why they said "Over the next few years" as it's likely going to have to be gradual so that people can still play the game while they do it and ease into it rather than shutoff the game for a week or so while they grind out code just so a feature can be implemented.
Yes Mobile DBD has this exact feature at least in the sense it shows your perks in loading to other survivors, but that's cause it was built able to do that from the ground up, they didn't have to recode an entire lobby screen just to implement a feature because they designed it better from the start.
Also the whole "YEARS!!?" Reply is just gross, like they didn't say it'd take years, they said over the course of the following years, which means we could see the progression of it implemented in a few months but they don't expect it to be in the finished state for awhile. Which is fine because a lot of things in this game are like this in a way, simply having things like new modes being sort of implemented through the rift challenges is an example.
It's an indie company focused on a lot of things, for them to say that they are working on it over the next few years is not them saying it won't be till 2028 that we get this feature.

When devs make these kind of mistakes consistently even with their initial success which is supposed to be a boost and i don't just mean profit kind of success, when that happens it is all over and it'll just go through this weird milking the players while not giving any fucks about the actual state of the game kind of phase and the OGs who are still in denial are falling for it. The game i was talking about was For Honor and the company is ubisoft btw. If you want another shitshow of game development you also got that absolute dumpster fire of a game. ESSENTIALLY what i'm saying is i've seen this exact pattern before it's already over they are killing the game subconsciously they're just taking it slow, stop giving a fuck and go try something else cuz those mfs don't deserve anymore care from anybody that does.

I think Otz misunderstood the answer about the gap between solo queue and swf. BHVR wasn't saying that solo queue survivors are lone wolves that don't care and that's a problem. Essentially what they were saying is that the problem doesn't lie with solo queue having too little info, it lies with swfs having too much. In other words, think of your average solo queue match- that's how BHVR thinks it should be to play as survivor.

Yea I honestly feel like a typical solo q match is deemed okay to BHVR. They want the kill rates to be better than escape rates imo because you need killers for the game to function optimally. I’m a survivor main who finds playing killer very boring , so I want the ppl who play killer to play the game. However, there’s nothing BHVR can do to control swfs on comms. My problem is, even if it is 4 solo players who play well together, the killer always assume its a swf on comms … which still breeds toxicity and killers complaining (I’ve seen it). So realistically, if everyone who played survivor played as a team with similar skill and unselfishly sacrificed themselves like swfs do on comms, most killers would be frustrated. So anything to even remotely help solo q players synergize with other solo players would lead to more toxicity from the other side, more complaints, more problems to address . We’re past the point of no return unfortunately

Otz doesn't have an evil bone in his body. He's a very special and rare breed on this platform; extremely caring, humble, and genuine. The way a minority of people talk about and treat him is unfair, but also not unexpected. It's just a symptom of how the devs have betrayed their community, and people are looking for a face to blame.

I know it's their game, but the devs are wrong about so much in this game. How can you be so unaware and wrong about your own game? It's almost like they don't play it themselves.

I love how this comment can be applied to most of modern online games and it's actually really sad.
