If you put the center cardboard tubes from empty rolls of paper towels over the con rods it will make it easier to guide the case halves togetehr during assembly. I do that on Type 4 Porsche 914 engines when assembling them. It prevents any nicks to the rods or the crankcase/cylinders during assembly.
Another great idea 😁🍻
That bird is always screaming when the action is the most dramatic or intense.... I know I could not stand such disturbances when doing these delicate tasks.
+Yves Vidal haha he’s paying attention and feeling our pain. You get used to it pretty fast surprisingly
It helps to use a dab of STP Oil Treatment on the dowel pins to make them slip much more easily into the crankcase halves.
+mike dx nice tip thanks!
End covers should install after the case is assembled. The square edges of case can scrape the o-rings. The o-ring pack should insert fine into the case hole. NIce job and thanks for sharing.
You’re welcome
Another good episode !!
+Damian Laugher 🙏🍻
Having the front console on is just overcomplicating things. First put the intermediate shaft carrier on the back, then the front console on (wiggle it to center it onto the shaft) and donezo.
+@shokrefumi there’s a chance of breaking the front console that way. While a little more complicated, you can’t break it.
Thanks for the great video. Can you reuse the case bolts or do you always need to replace them?
+Pete the car man you’re welcome! I haven’t researched that far ahead yet. I know I will find at least one person that says you should, but there is SO little torque on them I wouldn’t believe them 😁
What happened to that segment between where the sealant was started and the sealant ended? Curious as I don't know what those channels are for and if the area inboard of them needs to be sealed (in case it's water or air).
+Eggbert Farnsworth we mentioned that’s where the sump is so not to seal there
Yes, I remembered a while after I posted. I watch your videos a bit at a time and I forgot. Sorry to be a nuisance.@@HelpMeDIY
@@eggbertfarnsworth5787 not at all! Thanks for watching
@HelpMeDIY are you following a shop manual or some kind of rebuild manual? If so which one and where can i find it?
+@125artfox best material available is Jake Raby’s guide. I have a link to it in the description of my video with him, or you can find it on the Flat 6 Innovations website
@@HelpMeDIY thank you.. I have a 997.1 turbo that im Going to get into. Really enjoyed your videos 👌good stuff..
I still wonder how you are going to attach the Bank 2 pistons..... Can you remove the rods from the oil pan opening?
There's a hole in the block for you to access the bank two piston and slam in the circlip in the wrist pin with a special tool. It's like building a ship in a bottle!
+Pete the car man spoiler alert! 😝
Yes that’s a great comparison
What cleaning methods were used to get those blocks so clean and shiny?
+Mika Soinetsalo vapor honing.
@@HelpMeDIY Ok, guessed it :) - what abrasive was used - soda or glass beads?
@@mikasoinetsalo9685 glass beads
@@HelpMeDIY That makes me curious. How was it post processed after cleaning so that all of those glass beads are removed from the surface. I've seen comments that they can even get stuck to the aluminium during the cleaning process and then later when the engine is running those can get loose and end up in the bearings etc.
@@mikasoinetsalo9685 rinsing it off? 😆 I over simplify but you get the idea
The bird is just the worst...
+J. C. All that work and knowledge and that’s your main take away?
@@HelpMeDIY yes
