    Can you tell more about this household detergent that you use to clean the cork? Can I use the dish soap instead? Or a regular soap? I will apply this on the cloth or very soft brush as you did.

      @DesertBirkenstock  3 месяца назад +1

      Hello. A mild detergent would probably be no problem. Ideally you just don't want something that requires you to rinse out/off - the less liquid the better. So a detergent that foams or bubbles might take extra effort. Anything like - 409, Windex or an eco-green comparable item would work on a soft cloth or with a brush would work just as well. Hope that helps. Thanks for the question. Amy

    Why they don't just do this at the factory is beyond me

      Hello. When your shoe/sandal is new - they are sealed. BUT because the cork is exposed to the elements and to wear and tear - the sealant will wear off. Part of it is how the cork and latex move with you and the molding of the footbed to your foot. Because of the construction some maintenance is required. The sealant is cheap. You don't use much. If it lives in the fridge it can last much longer - but the benefit to your shoes is real. Some people have to re-seal every few months (maybe only 1 pair) some people it can be 6 months to a year - or it might just be a spot that needs attention. How you foot rests when you drive - etc. Everyone is different. When you buy the cork will have a slightly shiny appearance, as the cork seal wears off it will have a raw cork look. That's when it's time to seal. Sorry - probably not what you wanted to hear - but kind of like an oil change for your car. Amy

    Hi! Just curious... why use two sealants? Can you use the Four Seasons and apply two coats? What is the purpose of using two? Thanks!!

      Sorry that was confusing - not necessary to use 2 sealants - just showing you the options. Usually one coat will work just fine. If the cork is really dry might need two coats. Thanks Amy

    about how often should you be reapply the cork seal? I understand it will likely vary depending on how often you wear your birkenstocks but a rough estimate would be appreciated for someone who's just purchased their first pair. Thanks :)

    • @desertbirk
      @desertbirk 11 месяцев назад +1

      Hello. So I would say every 3-6 months. I would look to see if there are raw spots on the cork where the seal has worn off. Clean the cork before you reseal and just follow our steps. Yes it can vary a lot. Just know if it starts to look yucky and thick - you might be doing it too often. Thanks Amy

    Dumb question. What if you DIDNT clean the fork before sealing? I assume the seal will wear off over time and next time I’ll clean it first lol
    Omg I’m LOLing I didn’t realize y’all were in Vegas! I’ll have to stop by and bring them for repair. Do you have any black suede arizonas in stock?

    • @DesertBirkenstock
      @DesertBirkenstock  Год назад

      Yes eventually it will wear off and you can clean the cork before resealing. We do have some - but we are expecting a HUGE shipment in the next couple of weeks. Give us a call so we can see what size you're looking for and let you know. 702-638-8008.

    When you buy the Birkenstock does it already have the cork sealer on it

    • @DesertBirkenstock
      @DesertBirkenstock  2 месяца назад

      Hello. Sorry for the delay. Yes, it sure does. All new Birkenstock sandals (and clogs) have a coat of sealant on the shoe to start. We try to let people know that when it wears off it will look like raw cork - that is when you're going to want to reseal them. It's an easy way to tell. Everyone is different so it could take 3 months, 6 months and sometimes it may just be a spot - like how you rest your foot when you drive or something like that. I usually clean them off with a damp rag before resealing so you are not sealing dirt on. Thanks for the question. Amy

    what can you do if you added to much seal & it left dark marks on the cork ? will it fade sooner or later ?

    • @DesertBirkenstock
      @DesertBirkenstock  11 месяцев назад

      Hello. Yes it can fade - but sometimes it just ends up looking worse. What we would do us use a dremel to get some of the excess off and maybe start again. I know that may not be as helpful. You could try sand paper to get the areas off (dremel works best though) Just make sure to clean the cork before you reseal as you seal the dirt back on the shoe otherwise. Hope that helps Amy

    Hi, I’m new in birkenstock, and looking for a cork sealer product that can keep my mind in peace. Can you help me point out which is the better sealer between Birkenstock’s and Kelly’s, in your opinion? Which one do you prefer?

    • @DesertBirkenstock
      @DesertBirkenstock  2 месяца назад

      Hello. Personally, I like the Kellys better. Here's why. 1) Brush in lid applicator. Makes it much easier to apply. Goes on - no fuss no muss. 2) Goes on shiny. Birkenstock had changed their formula and it looked dull. I am told it may have changed. I do not have any evidence of that yet. The reason that is important is that it makes it easy to tell when it's time to reseal your cork. They start out shiny from the factory and when it wears off, then you need to reseal. Makes this whole process much easier to see. That the scoop. Hope that helps. Thanks for the question and watching the video. Amy

      @@DesertBirkenstock Hi, I have another question. Should I use suede protector (water/stain repeller), as well as other treatment like suede conditioner, on the footbed?

    • @DesertBirkenstock
      @DesertBirkenstock  2 месяца назад

      @@seirado1148 I don't recommend it. The repellent is to seal and protect the leather from water- etc, ideally for the straps not the footbed liner. If you seal your liner - then it can't absorb your natural oils and sweat - which it is supposed to do. I know it gets dark and everyone thinks that bad - but it's supposed to do that. Then your feet sweat more if sealed. Kind of defeats why there is a suede liner on most of their shoes. Thanks for the question. Amy

    What can be done if some (a lot) got on the footbed

    • @DesertBirkenstock
      @DesertBirkenstock  6 месяцев назад

      Hello. If you get a little on the footbed - I suggest using sandpaper to get it out. Don't need to go crazy but get it out and just let it be. When you apply if you get it in the footbed just wipe it out quickly and it will be fine. If you painted the footbed inside where your foot sits to the point that it's shiny - then you can try the sandpaper trick - but a few people have done this, and we had to replace the footbed. Hope that helps. Amy

    What's your opinion on shoe goo?

    • @DesertBirkenstock
      @DesertBirkenstock  4 месяца назад

      Hello. Shoe goo is not sealant for Birkenstocks. It has its place. You could use it to fix the liner peeling away from the cork or reglueing straps to the side - BUT not as sealant. It flakes off plus usually looks weird. You would have to get it so thin, and it usually just does not come out of the tube like that. You want your cork to be able to breathe a little. It is all natural. I didn't realize it when I started many (many) years ago - but latex is tree sap and cork - well comes from a tree so you want it to be able to stay healthy. The cork seals do wear off - anything will - as it moves and gets wear. We have used Barge cement in the past. The trick is again SUPER thin. The reason being - as it gets dirty it kind of yellows - and literally - looks like snot on your cork. Many times, men and teenagers work better with barge just because they wear it off before you get the snotty buildup. You don't have to use Birkenstocks sealant - we like Kelli's the best. Birk had switched formulas a few years ago (very eco-friendly) and wasn't giving off the shine - I've heard they've changed back again. Also gone back to the brush applicator from the bingo dauber applicator, but those haven't come in yet. Hope that gives you enough info. Thanks for the question. Amy

      Hello,
      I am one of your biggest fans! When you were at the Mark's street location I bought a pair of Birkenstocks that have a criss cross toe loop at the big toe( I forgot the name the exact style, )
      My husband was a manager at Costco and I used to watch for your vionics to go on sale, then buy 4or 5 pair. As you know they're very busy and he's spent the last 36 years on those cement warehouse floors. I have to keep himbin good orthotics and enough to rotate out.
      Sorry... I thought you might remember me if I explained but at any rate you ste truly missed on this side of town!
      While hosting my Son's pool party, a group of well meaning teens decided to blast me with water guns. It's all I'm good fun, until I realized I had on my favorite shoes the Birks!!! I air dried them outdoors, out of direct sunlight , but yes they toe area was soaked the most and now is really cracking. Normally, I would say I need a new foot bed, but the sole is still in very good condition. The Inside footed is too, however the heel cup area has a lip of extra lining that's now over lapping, but I'm sure it can be trimmed with nail cuticle nippers. My question is, do you think cork sealant would be enough to fill in the cracked area and hold it, as it hasn't started to fall out ...yet
      I still have pretty little wear on the rest of the shoe, however I want to preserve them in the best way. Do you guys do the repairs or sell the cork Sealant?
      Thank you in advance.
      I was so happy yo find you videos here, they're very helpful!
