    Birkenstock could solve appearance problem by simply making the footbeds a dark color.

      Yep, not about appearance. The footbeds get compacted and become firm, shiny, and get a slightly tacky feeling. This is about how they feel, the appearance just shows it's clean. I don't care how they looked as long as they feel clean.

    NO don’t do it , they go hard and stink after !
    The only way you can do it a bit say near the toe box when newer , no where else is with suede cleaner
    Spray it’s kinda foamy , but even that makes them go harder. Birks are supposed to mold to
    Foot and they eventually go shiny and more solid as the soft suede layer under the foot meshes with
    The cork that’s when their nicely broken in and comfy. People wrongly assume their dirty but they
    Are ment to look the way they do. Prehaps saddle soap could help but personally after 3 pairs
    I found the least you do to them the better ! A clean dry toothbrush with nothing else revives them best.
    Enjoy ya birks there cute in there own way 😘

      this happened to me. just use a nubuck eraser block instead of doing this. i had to throw away 2 perfectly good pairs and replace them because of this! just get a nubuck or suede eraser (it’s the stone-like thing on the end of the birkenstock brush) and go at them! it can’t hurt them, because they’re suede lined. like a regular eraser, it leaves shavings, so you can brush that off with the brush. it wears down, however, so i would get a stand-alone block for that purpose. just do a dry cleaning, it’s way better and less risk of ruining your shoes

    • @aingeav497
      @aingeav497 4 года назад +5

      Leonor Zavala here’s a few things you can do:
      - get a suede brush and brush them out. get one that has wire bristles. it’ll help to loosen some stuff up.
      - get some fine-grit sandpaper. i know, it sounds crazy, but it’s a thing that cobblers do to help get dry dirt and other things out of suede. i use 220 grit but you can probably go a tad coarser. sanding the surface will bring the nap back up (you’ll start to see the fibers get released from the dirty surface), and it will get rid of the dirt. alternate between sanding and brushing, sanding and brushing until you’ve got the nap back and the dirt out.
      - get a suede eraser for normal use. there’s usually one on the back of the birkenstock cleaning kit brush. it does the same thing as the sandpaper: removes dirt, but you can be much more aggressive with it. sandpaper you need to be more careful.
      - if you’re going to use soap and water, use a suede shampoo. dilute it HEAVILY (it should be barely soapy) and use a horsehair brush to work it in, and then wipe away the foam. then, rinse the brush of the soap and use water to work the rest of the soap residue out. it does take a while, so i only recommend washing when your feet start to stain/when the shoes start to stink (once per month)
      -

      Your feet don't sweat at all? There is already a bunch of moisture getting into the leather and the footbed from normal wear. These absolutely should be cleaned with soap and water and then allowed to fully dry. Then use a suede brush to bring the fibers of the suede back up. Finally, they should be conditioned with a spray on conditioner formulated specifically for suede. Pretty much the same goes for the oiled nubuck, except you shouldn't brush them with a suede brush, but use a normal show brush.

    • @kellytaylor6651
      @kellytaylor6651 4 года назад +3

      @@peterschenck4067 Sweat is not water. Water gets into the footbed and compromises the cork and sealant. A damp cloth on oiled or waxy uppers is about it. I've used a suede eraser, brush, and and/or cleaner, if necessary when prepping suede shoes to resell. But I recently sold a pair of work boots for $140, which I had scrubbed a couple times with suede cleaner and water. The buyer contacted me after wearing the boots twice and said the soles separated from the boots. I was shocked and puzzled because I'd sold an identical pair last year which came from the same owner and the man who bought them never reported any trouble. However I hadn't scrubbed that first pair before selling because they didn't have any stains. The buyer of the second pair provided pics of the damage, so I felt it was only right to refund all his money, including shipping.
    After looking it up, it seems that polyurethane midsoles can become brittle if they get wet, and/or as they age. You can't see the damage because it's inside the shoe.
    I've heard of doing a bend test on shoes like Danskos, for this very reason (bend them as much as possible at the sole to make sure they don't crack in half), but I had no idea this other brand of shoes I'd sold might do this. They were Asolo brand.
    Now I'm leery of wetting/scrubbing any expensive shoes that might have multiple layers in the soles, for fear of ruining them.😬
    Just curious, have you or anyone else reading this experienced this type of trouble with Birks after getting them wet during cleaning?

    Years ago I had to go into the sewer to save a little kitten. I called the Birkenstock dealer and asked how to clean my shoes and he told me to put them into a solution of Antibacterial liquid soap (I used Dial) and water. I'm still wearing them. I'll give this a try too.

      @raleysmombaker9593 4 года назад

      @@victoriaelena3846 This happened about 10 years ago to my favorite pair of double strap sandals. I still wear them but just for working outside because it did fade the navy color. I was worried about all the nasty stuff in the sewer but also raccoons (they killed 13 neighborhood cats and kittens that year) were coming up from the sewer and they have all kinds of nasty diseases that I didn't want to bring into the house. I was disappointed that the color faded and also the footbed was stiff after they dried and stayed that way. If I ever had to do it again I would probably just use Lysol or Clorox wipes if I could find some.

    I, like so many other people in the world love Birkenstock shoes and since it is quite the investment awfully nice to know there's a good way to take care of them so they have even a longer life. I believe at this time I currently have six pair of Birkenstocks and a dirty foot bed is about the worst it gets on the inside anyway so this is awesome!!! Thank you so much for the information and I will wear them in good health as I have always done in the past now I can even be proud that they look good too!

Shows up right away on Netflix. A couple of days ago I was texting/emailing my friend that I was drinking all day, and bang! - the ad about a rehab! I didn't want anyone else to know!! And yes, sometimes you think about something - and it's on RUclips. I am freaked out too!! WTF??

I tried different variations but in the end put little less water than in the recipe above and also let the mixture stay on the inner sole for a bout 30min before wiping off with a wet cloth. Thank you!

    I tried washing my birks not because they were too soiled but i rather loved that suede feeling because
    of sweaty feet. After i washed them after each
    successive wash they became more dark each time
    and those stubborn marks at heel and paw too didnt go.
    Please help
    And one confession- i did place them under direct sun for like an hour or so.
