You did an excellent job with the underside of that car to how it was. I’m now convinced that these cars with the right amount of TLC should last for many yearss
As someone who's only messed around with car electrics in my youth (several accessory additions to a Triumph Herald 13/60, blowing 50 amp fuses in the process, much to my father's amusement), I'm always gobsmacked by the skill and knowledge involved in these car restorations.
Bl**dy hell... epic work Neil. That looked horrible underneath... Rather you than me! And the music is terrific. Unicorn Heads according to Shazam. Great video :)
Put any car by the sea and this happens. My mates Alfa164 is over 30 years old. No rust to speak of. That is now a very nice 159. I nearly bought a 159 Ti but my 156 was my last Alfa as it happened
Enjoyed that Nelly. Just to let you know, your vids are much appreciated, setting the camera up for every little job and all the editing involved isn't done by magic fairies is it! I bet your still not a 939 fan after that job eh pal? 😆
Found this on the off chance. Two very good videos. I have the 159 touring on a 60 plate, so same age. I have noted your details in case I should need your help in the future. I was impressed by the detail and final look of the work.
@@ItaliaAutos I noticed from the website that you are in Walsall. It's a long way from me in South Essex but I shall keep your details handy with the vehicle file.
Thanks for another interesting video Neil. There was a lot of hard work carried out in this episode & I can appreciate your attention to detail in getting this car back in full working order, even with the delay in getting some parts. It was also a good call to refurbish the calipers & the new exhaust would surely make the car sound a lot better! Keep up the great work! 👍👍
Great Video again. Great to see work on a car to keep it on the road. Apart from Keeping Alfa Romeos gong it is also very good for the Environment to reuse what is there rather than just making new.
Why rubberized/bitumen based undercoating? In long term it will make it worse, cause sooner or later it will chip and get cracks. Better option is wax based undercoating, such as Dinitrol 4942. But great video as always. Keep up the good work!
The owner must absolutely love that car 😅 at that point I’d be looking to swap the engine and box into a better condition shell or just get shot of it and buy a new one
Hey Neil, I have some surface corrosion starting on my 159 SW and wanna take care of it before it gets worse, what produts you recommend for taking care of it?
Powerflex last longer then standard rubber rubbish Iv run 2 cars on them had no issues and the bushes lasted longer then the car .If I. Could get them for my current car I would but they don’t make then unfortunately
Oh wow, doing all that work and leave the stone guards? Seems a weird omission? I also thought, imagine doing the subframe on your driveway, like so many times I see people on Alfabook do? Would love to get this much work done to mine. This must be roughly £5k? anyone?
@@Brisbane2024 Thanks for the reply. After watching nearly all of Neil's videos I'd love to get a 159 and take it to him to work his magic on it. It's just the scary amount of rot in relatively new Alfas is putting me off a little.
Love your vids but why oh why do all mechanics get in cars and pull seat belts and drive with dirty gloves on? Be ok if they cleaned the belt and steering wheel etc but they never do and you end up with crud on your shirt.
Neil is 100% like my own car guy…… does everything by himself!!🙏🙏
That 159 looks awesome now🇮🇹🇮🇹
People do love their Alfas. Can't imagine anyone doing this for a Mondeo!

A good looking car, a beautiful interior, totally sorted now;)
We’ve been looking forward to this Neil
Really nice job on a really nice car! 👍

great videos mate, only an alfisti would go through all the trouble in restoring an Alfa
Thanks for another video. Big job on that 159...and kudos to the owner for being willing to invest in getting back into shape 👍
Great work, love the look of the 159, and my Giulia is a great evolution
Lovely Jubbly video, I really did think AlfaRomeo had sorted the tin worm on their cars. Hopefully this one has been saved for another few years.

Unfortunately I've never been a fan of the 939 platform but I don't mind fixing them.
@@ItaliaAutos why not fan? Mechanical access issues?
Excellent work like always, really nice to see a 159 getting some more years to live 👍🏻
Awesome episode support from Macedonia 🇲🇰
Nice camera work. And nice to see you working with copper grease on every bolt and nut!
Had to many subframe bolts snap so the all get the treatment now.
Great job, it sits very nice on the street now.
Great job for this car.Respect from Russia.

Thanks
Beautiful work Neil. I really loved my 159 - great to see another one getting some love.
Amazing like always Neil can’t wait to get my gulia serviced and wax oiled by you
Absolutely flipping brilliant Neil
Both videos on this car were really great Neil. You do some top class work. If I had an Alfa, I'd be delighted to entrust it to you.
Thanks for watching.

Great video Neil . Many thanks for your efforts.
Nice work, I hope you recommend that the customer has those nasty Chinese tyres replaced.
Good work done there Neil 🙂👍
Lovely looking car and a great job always a mystery to me why these didn't take off considering how many 156s were sold
Really good thank you...car looks amazing and sits just right 👍

Well done 👍 all best from Makedonija
Excellent job well done.
Great video, sold my 159 but still neat to watch the videos 😊
Thanks
Great video Neil, looks like you were using dinitrol for the underselling, is this correct ?? 👍👍
Great Neil yet again! Though couldn’t hear you, as backing music was too loud!
Old video. Changed the way I edit now.
I love your videos and I wish I had your mechanic skills 👍
Lo estaba esperando! Te he escrito varias veces para ver si podias conseguir algo y enviarmelo

I don't use a bitumen based coating.
That Vactan rust converter stuff you used, do you wipe it off or paint straight on to that coating after it has dried?
Great work 👍👍👍
Great videos! 👍🏽

Top work on your part though 👌🏼
God just saw the photo of it sat outside and I can see why 🤤 that’s a stunner for sure
Why no derust the anchor plates or install new ones?
Said in the video.
Great job as always! Just wondering why the air filter box is positioned so low
Excellent video.
Very nice, good job.
Respect!!
Great work, but where there is a bushing that bolt needs to by tighten under cars weight otherwise bushing will rip inside in a couple of days. 👎
Amazing job!! Where did you get the brake calipers refurbished?
Great one again! But why wouldn't you change the strut mounts with new ones when refitting the suspension in the rear? They're dirt cheap.
I did change them
@@ItaliaAutos sorry turn, they looked like the old ones
@@aldeacristian4582 you use the alu mounts but swap the rubber parts inside. I did it on video in the brera video from a few weeks ago.
Hey Neil, I have some surface corrosion starting on my 159 SW and wanna take care of it before it gets worse, what produts you recommend for taking care of it?
You did ana amazing job of rescuing this. In your opinion, would you buy a 2.2 engine 159 if you didn't have the money for a TBi or a 3.2 V6?
Tbi. I'd avoid the others
@@ItaliaAutos thank you. Ill get saving
14:13 are those tires in the back on the rack for your Giulia?
Yep
@@ItaliaAutos great choice
You mention welding subframes …….will a welded subframe pass an MOT?
Tank straps look a bit crusty Neil…
Fitted another set off camera that I refurbished
@@ItaliaAutos Somehow I knew you would. Then again, it is ultimately up to the customer. Good job
It’s a shame about the fuel tank straps. Could have had them renewed / refurbished if the owner wanted. Enjoyed watching though, great job 👍
I did. I'd just finished filming by the time they arrived.
@@ItaliaAutos sorry it sounds like I’m one of those annoying people now 😳🙈
Good job. What are your thoughts about the powerflex bushes that Autolusso sell for the 159/brera?
Pointless is my opinion 😀
@@ItaliaAutos 😂👍
Powerflex last longer then standard rubber rubbish Iv run 2 cars on them had no issues and the bushes lasted longer then the car .If I. Could get them for my current car I would but they don’t make then unfortunately
I think there's a particular front bush they do that allows for perfect alignment and better handling (they say) I was wondering about those.
Bravo !
Wanna hear that tbi with new exaust pipe
It's back in again in a few weeks so I will do a video review on the tbi

Serious question Neil, why do modern Alfas rust so badly underneath? Is it poor quality steel? Bad underbody protection, etc?
Most important to do a regular underbody cleaning to remove salt and to check afterwards for damages. Also a treatment of all cavities are mandatory.
@@Brisbane2024 Thanks for the reply. After watching nearly all of Neil's videos I'd love to get a 159 and take it to him to work his magic on it. It's just the scary amount of rot in relatively new Alfas is putting me off a little.

From sustainability aspect the best you can do, but not from commercial
@@Brisbane2024 True!
How much did this cost the customer in total please?
All quotes vary. This job was quite costly due to all the time and parts involved
First like then watching!
petrol tank straps rust through for sure...just saying
Good work, but its not ok with dirty gloves when testdrive a customers car.
Car cleaned afterwards. 🙌
It would be perfect if u sandblasted those gross disc back plates
If you would like to donate the 2-3 hours labour I'll gladly do them 😀

Why do Alfa’s rust so badly when most manufacturers have cured it
No one has cured it. All cars rust just that this one is bad
